5 comments about Cobra NAV One 5000 Portable Mobile Navigation System.
  1. For the price this is probably the best nav system you can get. The only hitch is it does have a fatal error screen every now and then but you just turn it off and back on and it is ok.

  2. This GPS has one of the biggest viewing screen of all the portables. In addition, so far it has been user friendly.

  3. Got this unit and upgraded its firmware right out of the box. Easy to set up
and operate. Screen is great and easy to see. Touch features work well and seems to grab a signal quickly. Many features and P O I's including all of the Mom and Pop stores I have locally. Don't have a bluetooth phone yet so I can't comment on that. Bought through Amazon/6Ave Electronics for a better price than locally sold for. Shipping was fast too!! Gave 4 stars due to the fact that I had to update the firmware to fix a couple of minor problems, but after update seems to have fixed those issues. Couple hundred miles and all seems fine.

  4. I researched before taking the plunge on the Cobra 5000 GPS. Many early purchasers complained about "freezing" problems. Well, Cobra must have listened because recent boxed units do have updated firmware, and software patches are published on their [...] website. So, I suggest you apply the most current patch kit, and then let's see what you think.

The unit is easy to use, the display is huge and bright, just as they advertise! OK, so it won't fit in your pocket, but you just can't have everything. The voice is clear and volume is easy to control. I have tried out both the 2D and 3D views, and both have their pros and cons. Satellite acquisition seems good, and the street maps are quite current. I do hope that future map updates will be available, as we all know that new road construction is always going on somewhere nearby!

Finally, do realise that Cobra is not going to build any more GPS products themselves. There was a Cobra corporate news item late in 2007 to state they are getting out of the actual development, but if you read carefully, Cobra will not abandon these products altogether. I think that means they may simply OEM some other manufacturers products in future, and stick their name on them. Fine, but what about us with real Cobra GPS products? Time will tell, but Cobra assures that they will continue to support their current product line of GPS's. Let's hope so, or they may loose many customers if we are left with useless devices...

  5. The Product and quality is very good and thank you amazon for makeing it avalilbe to me.

3 comments about Cobra GAEBM2 microTALK Earbud Headset with Inline Microphone.

  1. The only earpiece I've found that works as a silent communicator with the Cobra walkie-talkie devices. Any store in my area, which includes Best Buy, Circuit City, Radio Shack, anyone who actually carries the Cobra device, doesn't carry the correct earpiece that allows you to communicate without using the speaker/mic on the unit.

I work with a small theater group that requires whisper communication. I would have preferred an actual headset. In lieu of finding a headset I found this earbud that has a mic/switch built into the cord. The switch is the key to 'send', same as the key on the walkie-talkie. Earbud hangs in the ear and you hold the tiny switch/mic in your fingers, raise it to your mouth to speak. You do NOT use the keying device on the Cobra to speak. Using the clip on the walkie-talkie to attach to the belt is OK so long as you don't bump into something that changes the channel. There may be a lockout for the channel selector - haven't bothered to look for the config in the manual.

I've not tried to use it in regular open air application as in hiking outdoors, etc., when I wouldn't expect to raise the mic to my mouth to speak. Don't think it's an issue in that it is sensitive enough in whisper that in open air I expect it to work OK without raising, though that is the instinctive thing to do when holding the switch.

  2. I've had a pair of the Cobra GMRS LI 6000-2 WX VP 2 Way Radios with which I was totally satisfied. When my wife and I bought mountain bikes we found the radios difficult to use while riding so I bought a pair of the earbud headsets. They are TOTALLY USELESS. The earpiece will not stay in the ear. Any kind of head motion at all and it falls out. This is as useless an accessory as I've ever purchased. Don't waste your money.

  3. As a professional videographer, I needed a way to communicate with my other camera person and I found a 2-way radio but during a wedding I could not have a loud radio going off. After a long search, this earbud headset was recommended. I have used them on two wedding shoots so far and they have work very well.

That said, I wish they were not the earbud type. The earbud has a tendency to fall out which can be a pain it if it happens at important moment. I also would have liked to have the mic be a little closer to the earbud because I have reach down and move the mic closer to my mouth to stay quite.

Not bad for the price, but it could be better

5 comments about Cobra 29WXNWST NightWatch CB Radio (40-Channel).
  1. Potential Pros:

    Works great
    High quality
    Well Made
    Weather And CB
    Able to be calibrated
ST technology makes nearby transmissions easier to hear without messing around with squelch
knobs have a cool "old school" feel

    Potential Cons:

Very Large (bigger than a car stereo)
    Somewhat cheap microphone
Enthusiast features - Need to know some CB concepts to use it (not for absolute beginners)

  2. Awesome unit, does everything!

Only drawback is if (like me), you have to have it off to your side, there are too many controls. I don't think this would bother anyone who can mount it nearby and facing them.

  3. Cobra 29WXNWST NightWatch CB Radio (40-Channel)
I am an Over The Road Trucker and was lost without my C B. This is identical to the one I had and it is an excellent product. I tried others but they could not compare to the quality and performance of my Cobra CB.

  4. My fiance is a truck driver and he loves this CB. I got it for a Christmas present and he could barely wait to install it. I'm very pleased.

  5. Matched this with a "Little Wil" Wilson antenna. Low SWR across all channels with minimal calibration. Radio comes with a built-in SWR meter. A little bulky, but lots of controls to customize the radio for urban or rural areas. The backlighting is great for driving at night. I bought a cigarette lighter DC cord as well, since I move the radio between cars. The radio comes with a hard-wire kit. Speaker is loud enough, and reception/range appear to be very good. Not a sideband radio. Good classic CB with just enough controls for the low to mid-level user.

3 comments about Cobra AC-701 Remote Mount Connection Box (Use with 75-WXST).
  1. The AC-701 Remote allowed me to move my Cobra (75-WXST) from the truch to my Jeep with the turning of one collar on the connection cable. Now both my vehicles have a CB ffor a minor increase in cost, rather than owning 2 CB radios. Great Concept.

  2. This item is included with the purchase of the Cobra 75 WX ST and does not need to be ordered separately - unless you wish to share your CB with more than one vehicle.

  3. The Cobra Remote Mount Connection Box is an innovative solution to a multi-radio problem. This unit allows me to use one CB Radio in two different cars without having two Radios. Furthermore, it does not affect the SWR's, once your antenna is tunned properly. I give it 5 stars.

4 comments about Cobra XRS R9G 12 Band Radar/ Laser Detector with Red Light/ Speed Camera GPS Locator.
  1. Very nice setup, only downfall is that its not as good as a Bel rx65 or STI when it comes to Radar falsing and sensitivity. But it makes up for it with its GPS Photo enforcement feature. It would be nice if the alarm tones could be changed around. Like all the reviews on the internet say, "its got Potential", but still needs some attention to detail to make this a premium detector like the Bel rx65, STI, or Valentine products.

  2. I purchased this a few days ago to go on a long road trip with some other buddies all driving cars, and I would have to say the set up is nice. The only downfall to the system is it seems a little too cheap for 500$. The radar pickup is not as quick as some of the escort models, and it has quite a few false alerts. I would say if your looking to buy one, good choice - you will be happy over all, but wait until it drops in price a bit.

  3. First, I passed way too many police cars with or without sirens on without any reaction from the detector. It also beeps quite a lot for false alarms.
The mounting installation is not top notch...I have to find inventive ways to try to keep the unit strictly horizontal because just tighting up the screws do not do anything.
Last but not least, the cigarette lighter power cord did not work on arrival..The customer service did a good job sending a replacement for free and quickly but I am under the impression that my case was far from unfrequent.
In conclusion, I am not impressed and actually disappointed.

  4. Useless. Too many components and too complicated. I was expecting something simple with no wires. It turned out to be the most complicated with a lot of wires running around the car. It is back in its box and in the bottom of the closet now.....

3 comments about Cobra HA-BNC BNC to Standard Connector for Hand-Held CB Antennas.
  1. I got this adapter to connect a roof mount antenna to a Cobra Handheld CB. The Handheld has a BNC plug while the cable from the roof mount antenna had a standard antenna connector. Anyway, this hooked the two together and worked out just great.

  2. This connector is very good coming on and off. It is stable in it's use and will last forever. I've used it now for over 8 months of frequent use and I am very satisfied.

  3. You need this connection to make outside antenna work. It is a nicely made product and worth the buy. How can one go wrong as it is just a connector between the radio and the antenna cable. You need it, so buy it.

5 comments about Cobra MR HH425LI VP Marine Professional Series VHF/GMRS Radio.
  1. Pros: Covers Marine VHF, GMRS and overlaps FRS. Comes with everything you could possibly need, especially Li-rechargeable, drop-in charger, AC and DC power cords, and AA battery case. Good controls, metal frame, swivel-off belt clip, easy to read display. Detachable antenna with SMA connector and wrist strap. The documentation is better tha most.

Cons: Squelch (uncoded) and coded squelches take 1 second to unlock. FRS frequencies 1-7 are fixed to GMRS power and frquencies 8-14 are not included.

This is a very complete product especially for the money. You will not have to buy any accessories except perhaps the remote mic. Especially impressive is the inclusion of an AA battery case in addition to the rechargeable battery pack. You get both AC and DC power cords.

There are several subtle things that are "right" about this product. The audio is much stronger than most handhelds. There are actual knobs, not pushbuttons, for squelch and volume controls that are easily manipulated. The controls are logically arranged. The drop-in charger has a plate that adapts it for charging the battery alone, without the radio. The RF squelch will open the tone or DCS squelches allowing accurate, single-control setting of the RF squelch threshold or opening up of the squelch for receiving weak signals. The backlight is orange and bright enough to read easily. The LCD display is easy to read from a normal viewing angle.

I have not had enough experience with the "say again" feature to determine its usefulness but it is well implemented. The audio quality is as good as the original transmission and you get 20 seconds of stored audio. Replay is counted down on the display and you can cancel playback by merely tapping the PTT.

Weather reception has several interesting alerting features including WX alert and SAME monitoring. I did not test these as of this writing, but the WX reception is excellent.

The only negatives I could find about this radio involved the squelch and the lack of FRS power levels and FRS frquencies 8-14.

The squelch open or unlock times were annoyingly long. Uncoded squelch open time on VHF marine or GMRS bands was the better part of a second. This may not seem like much until you consider the fact that most people start speaking just a fraction of a second before they key the mic. With this radio it will lead to the guaranteed loss of up to the first two seconds of audio. For those with a long "uhhhhh" before their real message, that will work. But for most others, it will result in a lot of missed calls. The unlock time for coded squelch (tone or DCS) is almost exactly one second, making performance here slightly worse.

Given the completeness of the product, the fact that a power setting for FRS compatibility and frequencies 8-14 are missing is puzzling. Still, I believe in actual use this limitation is more than easily overcome.

After testing it looks like I'm going to be getting a few more of these. You really can't beat them especially for the price.

  2. I just received two of these radios earlier this week, primarily to use as GMRS radios.

Having used them now for a few days, I'm so far impressed with the quality and reception. My biggest gripe is that the PPT button is sometimes hard to locate just right, since it is covered by the same flexible plastic which covers the light/lock button. I think these two buttons should be separated.

Regarding the squelch delay mentioned by another reviewer, the delay occurs only when CTCSS or DCS is enabled, AND the rewind function is enabled (it is by default). Even then, I timed it closer to 1/2 second. In any case, here's how to get rid of that delay: For close to ZERO squelch delay, disable CTCSS/DCS, and disable REWIND. The REWIND is by far what causes the longer delay, it seems to me. Turn it off, and by far most of the delay is gone, in fact I would say it is close to instant squelch unlock. Only problem I have is, I would LIKE to use both the CTCSS/DCS and REWIND features. Doing so will increase the squelch delay to 1/2 second or so (which is not uncommon with many radios), so you will have to decide what works for you.

This radio is VHF/GMRS only, not FRS. FRS frequencies 8-14 are FRS only, and are not shared with GMRS. This radio is not marketed as an FRS radio, therefore FRS frequencies 8-14 are not included. Frequencies 1-7, and 15-22 are GMRS (with 1-7 only being shared with FRS).

Overall I'm real happy this these radios.

  3. I bought this radio a few days ago and I'm extremely happy with it. Coming from Icom radios I was expecting this to be a low quality item but I was plesantly surprised. The radio is very well made and seems like if it will last many years through rough abuse. I'm planning on using it mainly as a way to communicate with other hunters and since it has both VHF and GMRS frequencies, it's a great buy. One of the guys I hunt with has the same radio and lives about 4 miles away here in South Florida and even though we have plenty of building between our houses, we were able to hear each other clearly using both the VHF and GMRS so it should work great in both land and sea. So if you're thinking of buying it, don't think anymore because Cobra really did a good job putting this radio together.

  4. This is a great radio. I bought it chiefly because it was JIS7 waterproof and it had the GMRS band in addition to the VHF. If it is as heavy duty as it feels (like a brick) it should last a long time. The buttons are easy to use, although I have changed the channel on accident once or twice.

Once I turned off the Rewind feature, I didn't have any problems with cutting off the beginning of transmissions.

Once fully charged, I used it all week, monitoring the weather channels several times a day, and even after that, the included battery pack lasted all day and overnight before it needed to be recharged when I left it on for 18 hours scanning the weather channels.

    I highly recommend it.

  5. This Cobra "Marine" radio is really used as an FRS/GMRS radio with a lot of power. It works very well and is easy to program and use. It has a VERY long lasting lithium battery (about 3 days on high power)and transmitts well from a vehicle on trips or through the mountains on a Ranger 4 wheeler UTV.

If the volume is turned up too high in noisy areas the speaker sometimes distorts but that is not a major issue...just turn down the volume a bit. Very dependable and I love the power it can transmit and receive in distance situations.

A great radio and a great buy!

5 comments about Cobra 75WXST Weatherband CB Radio.
  1. I wouldn't have a CB in my Jeep if it weren't a prerequisite for most organized off-road trail events; the fun and funkiness of these devices having been lost on me many years ago thanks to the content and language of most Interstate jabber. So my quest was narrowed to inconspicuous units that could easily be stored away from view 99 percent of the time I drive, with quality of transmission and reception a distant second priority.

Much to my delight, I've found that this Cobra unit is a highly capable CB for both trail and highway, and because of its size, I tend to leave it connected and mounted (industrial strength Velcro is all it takes) so that I can use it anytime I feel like doing so. I have no trouble understanding what's being said at any volume level, and have received broadcasts from at least four miles away, matched to a garden variety Firestik antenna. I can find no utility whatever in the Sound Tracker circuitry, but on the whole this is a good value and it works fine -- more than I need for my purposes.

  2. Overall I am pleased with the performance of this radio once I got it tuned properly. However, my one complaint is that the controls are somewhat difficult to adjust, particularly volume and squelch.

  3. Being a member of a local Miata club, it is very common for our club runs to use CB's as the form of communication. Being in a Miata also means there is not a lot of spare room for such things. After talking to other members and reviews online, I felt this would do everything I needed and then some. The biggest asset is not having a large "box" that would need to be mountet and left in the car. The second biggest reason I also chose this unit was I needed a CB for our Cherokee 4x4. By being able to buy a second "connection" box for ~$25, I can use the main unit in two vehicles without the full expense of two CB's.

Hookup is easy with a power, ground and antanna connections. The plug for the main unit to the connection box can be run from undernieth the dash or console or mounted in a hole with the supplied mounting plate and grommet. I used a "blank out" panel (unused switch location) in the dash so if I ever remove it, I can just replace this panel with no ill effects. I drilled a hole in the panel, the same size as the mounting plate and used the supplied grommet in this panel, not using the mounting plate. It is a very clean installation and when the handheld unit is removed, you never know there was a CB in the vehicle.

The BIGGEST thing to remember for ANY CB is proper antanna tuning and a quality antanna. Without this, it doesn't matter how good the CB is. How important is tuning? I tuned my antanna for the best SWR readings I could get, which were very good and in our last club run, I was the only person who could talk and receive from everyone in the group.

I am very happy with this product and am looking forward to getting it setup in our Cherokee as well.

  4. This is definately NOT a professional unit. Its great for the occasional CB'er. We noticed about a 1 mile range on our whip antenna which is mounted on top of our motorhome. Probably could get better range with better antenna. Dont need more than that. Easy to hookup and VERY CLEAN look - that is my favorite part. Internal speaker is "ok" but not for the hard of hearing.

  5. I bought this radio and the Cobra 1500 antenna. Both arrived 2 days later in perfect condition. Assembly, installation, and first use were a piece of cake. Couldn't have been easier. Since this is a CB radio, not a ham radio, the power is restricted to 4 watts. Therefore it was easy to install and power up using a cigarette lighter plug. This makes the whole rig easily portable from one vehicle to another.
