1 comments about Rodale's Weekend Gardener: Create a Low-Maintenance Landscape to Enjoy Year-Round.
- This is a truly wonderful book that will help you rethink your approach to gardening. The emphasis is on careful planning of your garden design and smart selection of plants, all to save you time and work in the future. The most useful part of the book is undoubtedly the "Picking Unpicky Plants" section, which includes lists of vegetables, herbs, annuals, perennials and biennials, bulbs, trees, shrubs, and ornamental grasses. The last portion of the book is "Easy Projects for the Weekend Gardener," an excellent source for quick ideas for your garden, such as "A Quick Walk," a garden path that can be created in a few hours and won't be overrun by weeds.
Despite its limited availability, this book is a must-have for anyone who enjoys having a garden but doesn't want to spend their every spare moment working on it.

1 comments about Natural Home Gardening: A Practical Guide to Growing Vegetables for Macrobiotic and Natural Foods Cooking.
- I found this book to be extremely helpful and very easy to read. It's advice was very practical and made alot of sense. Especially helpful for the beginner gardner, helps plan out longer growing seasons, and planting dates so you don't get one type of crop in all at the same time. A must read if you want to know what plants to grow, and the best way to do it.

1 comments about Managing Turfgrass Pests (Advances in Turfgrass Science).
- This book is a concise and handy refrence for turfgrass professionals. It is organized in three sections covering weeds, insects, and diseases. Unlike many other texts on pests that deal only with identification, Watschke et. al. actually go on to cover the more difficult issue of control strategies. The use of more color plates, and better placement of the color photos throughout the book would be nice. I'd rate it five stars were it not that all of the color plates are consolidated a center photo section. This may reduce costs, but in my opinion detracts greatly from ease of use.

5 comments about Tropical and Subtropical Trees: An Encyclopedia.
- It is not easy to say something sensible about this book. It is just too overwhelming. As can be expected these days of the Timber Press this is a lavishly illustrated, gorgeously printed and handsomely bound volume. Lay-out is immaculate. All pictures (full color) are of a beautiful quality, or better. An immense amount of information is given for each species (usually one page is devoted to each species). In view of the wealth of information provided, there is a huge potential for error, but the book appears to be remarkably error-free. A curious error is that of using "cv." before a cultivar epithet. The one error-prone category here is that of the author abbreviations in the botanical names: these do not consistently follow the recommended standard and, from time to time, are in something of a mess. Obviously, this is unlikely to trouble those who belong to the book's target audience. The other thing that can be questioned is its aim to cram so many trees into one book. However, for someone wanting a handy (if big) one-volume work on (sub)tropical trees this cannot be recommended enough. It will also make a lovely gift to just about anybody.
- I had this book on my wish list and got it for Christmas 05. I can't say anything bad about it. Very clear pictures not the line drawings. Very clearly explained and well layed out. I would recomend this book to anybody interested in learning about tropical tree's. It even had a tree that you don't find in a lot of books
- I have bought several copies for my book store customers here in Panama, and all are delighted with this book. Though a bit cumbersome, it is certainly thorough, and a valuable research tool for anyone interested in the flora of the tropics. It's beautifully illustrated, a book to display as well as study, typical of Timber Press' fine volumes.
- although general good, I'd like it to be more cautious about the frost hardiness of each species(The reason I bought it). There are trees that are described as being more tender than they are and other that are more hardy to frosts than in reallity. I mean that USDA zones are sometimes not so accurate for some species described
But beyond this there is a great amount of information inside it and many pictures also
- An imprescinble issue for all lovers of tropical trees. Very good colour pictures and excellent and short information. The USDA zones assigned to trees sometimes are not accuracy in my experience.

2 comments about Annuals and Biennials.
- Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix's Annuals & Biennials provides over a thousand color photos and insights on the many types of annuals and biennials. The close-up color photos provides clear pictures of the plants both in domestic and wild settings and are accompanied by clear, concise paragraphs of description.
- One of the best annual plants books I have ever seen. A no-nonsense approach to annuals and perennials. Plus loads of beautiful pictures and discriptions. This book should be on the shelf of every professional landscaper, gardener, and weekend gardender. It is worth the original publisher's price, but the discounted price makes it all the more attractive!

3 comments about Houseplants and Indoor Gardening (Black & Decker Outdoor Home Series).
- This book is GREAT!!!! Growing up my mother always had silk plants about the house that were not attractive. Come to find out later in my life she had tried living houseplants but somehow killed them once they were in her home. If she had this book she would have not had that problem!
When I had a home of my own I vowed that I would not succumb to her tactics with plants. I love the look and ambiance of living plants and was determined to have many of my own. Over the years I have become a more avid gardener and have always loved indoor houseplants. Although I have become a better indoor gardener it seemed that I still had my mother's knack of being able to swiftly kill some plants until I came across the Black and Decker series book, "Houseplants & Indoor Gardening". This book gives you so much information for decorating your home with houseplants it is unbelievable. After reading this book I quickly was able to identify some quick targets of my plants demise. One was as simple as the selection of plants when buying them in the nursery. It is a great reference tool that I use almost daily. I really love the encyclopedia of Common Houseplants which breaks all the specifications and growing conditions needed for certain plants. Overall I have found this book to be invaluable. A must have if you want you indoor garden to flourish!!!!!!

- This is a great book! The author is apparently an extremely knowledgable indoor gardener and she shares this information in an easy to read enjoyable book. All aspects of indoor gardening are covered from decorating with plants, care and requirements, planting and placement. Included in the book is an encyclopedia of common houseplants with plant requirements and pictures to help you identify all those plants you never knew the names of!! If you have houseplants this book is a MUST.
