5 comments about Plants from Test Tubes: An Introduction to Micropropagation.
- Well laid out, easy to understand for a non-technical person like myself. You do not need a doctorate to use this book successfully.A good basic book for micropropagation.
- This book will introduce you to not only the history but the nuts and bolts, logistics and mechanics of Micropropagation. I personally found it an invaluable resource to get me started. I can now confidently buy other books that hold specific data and experiments that I wish to pursue with the background knowledge and techniques I learnt here.
- If you want to know (and most important understand) the tissue culture process this is the book. Altough a chemistry or biology degree is not necessary don't forget to put aside you highschool notes because in some chapters it became a little bit technical. Great book to begin as hobby or as commercial.
- I loved this book it made me want to go out and get a lab set up right then and there. answered all my questions concerning plant cloning.
- The presentation of the book is very nice. It's written in a way that most person with some limited sciences background will understand with no trouble at all.Book is very well designed, by chapters from early discoveries to the most advance techniques, and still easy to completly understand and follow procedures without any problems. Language is very simple and clear, and is not boring at all.Author has a good way of describing and teaching the subject, and have a way of keeping interested in reading and doing the practical side of the experiments.
Will highly recomend.I;m very happy in owning this book.

5 comments about The Herb Society of America's Essential Guide to Growing and Cooking With Herbs.
- This is truly a guide, not a master reference work. The Herb Society is a fine organization whose roots, as it were, lie in my college town, Washington, D.C. Home to the National Arboretum as well, Washington does so much good for the country once you get out of the Capitol Mall area. Think of it as the Smithsonian for herbs.
Originally a women's organization, without whom it would never have survived or flowered, it now commands part of our national heritage and a working site for continued research and activity. This book is theirs and has all you need to know about them and why and how to visit.
As for the rest of the book, it succeeds where recent books have not, for the gardener and the cook both. Nicely organized, it discusses the herbs in an intelligent manner in one section. In the other, you are presented with recipes tagged to their local units and authors.
Please note this book is limited in scope to only those herbs growing in the National Herb Garden. There are plenty here, but this book does not pretend to be exhaustive. I must note that others with grander insinuations fall short of what you get here. The information is good and useful on both the gardening and cooking fronts. Also not this is not a cookbook, so recipes are simple rather than explanatory. They come from many contributors and therefore cannot have a single or detailed voice. Nor is it a book of detailed horticulture; they tell you the basics to grow these herbs.
- Here is a long overdue book combining BOTH growing information and delicious tested herb recipes. Detailed enough for both the novice herb gardener and the experienced one. The layout is easy to read and provides access for identifying recipes utilizing a specific herb.
In this way, gardeners can readily use the "excess" dill, fennel, basil, etc. from their kitchen herb gardens in a number of creative recipes.
- Outstanding and delightful! This book offers readers tried and true recipes with herbs but also provides informative herb gardening information. A wonderful gift and must-have for anyone interested in learning more about the cultivation and culinary uses of herbs!
- I expectated plenty of good evidence-based information on growing herbs from the Herb Society of America. What I got was 100 pages of general info on every herb out there and then 150 pages of unproven recipes. I have better herb information from most other sources. I would never have bought this book off the shelf. I felt like I was reading a church fundraising cookbook What a disappointment. I expected better from the Herb Society of America.
- The book is a great source of information about incorporating fresh herbs into your every day cooking. After looking for some time, I finally found a comprehensive cookbook for cooking with herbs.

2 comments about More Marijuana Varieties from the World's Great Seed Breeders (The Big Book of Buds, Vol. 3).
- There is alot of god info in between, and the book i a must if you have the first 2 books.
The "new" strains in the book could in my opinion have been better selected.
- An excellent, comprehensive encyclopaedia of the variety of marijuana available around the world. For anyone (especially here in CA, where medical cannabis is legal) who has access to purchasing pot, this is a serious guide book -- attractively designed, with ample color photos for identification of dozens of strains. Valuable and fascinating.

5 comments about The Big Book of Buds: Marijuana Varieties from the World's Great Seed Breeders.
- What a great book. Can't wait for Vol.2!!! Very informative with excellant photography. Highly recommended!
- We liked the book a lot. It almost already seems like a classic. So much more information is being produced in Cultivation books, websites, DVD's etc.
The Seed was definately First...
- I love the great pictures in this book. The information is very helpful in describing each type of bud. It tells you what to expect from each one. I find this very helpful when researching buds. As a graphic designer I think this layout is top notch. Crisp, clear and easy to understand.
- if you have one book [if like me you have many ] this will keep you intertained for hours as well as provide a lot background into the make up of some of our favorite strains.
- Simply excellent, Good information, excellent pics. Only, I wonder if all the information there is true.

2 comments about Sprinklers & Drip Systems.
- I have recently decided to equip my front and back gardens with drip irrigation, and was seeking some high-quality advice on the use of different types of emitters and sprinklers, as well as some saavy tips on setting up a system. What I got was a minimal discussion of the most basic aspects of drip irrigation. More space was spent on sprinkler systems (I should have guessed from the title). There was really nothing in here that I could not easily figure out myself.
It could be useful to someone who is absolutely clueless about drip irrigation.
I have said it before, and I find myself saying it again: Sunset Books have gone downhill. The new editions of their books are redone with scads of garden photographs. Gone are the highly instructional illustrations that used to characterize their books. If I can get previous editions of their books, I will do that. Unfortunately, drip technology is so recent that there really is no previous book by Sunset that covers it.
I doubt if I will ever order a Sunset book online again, but only from a store where I can look through it beforehand.
- I'm currently in a college class about landscape irrigation and have no prior experience with any type of sprinkler system. At 7 weeks into an 11 week term I've finally decided the instructor knows absolutely nothing about irrigation either as all we do in class is draw circles on graph paper with no explanations given as to the rhyme or reason of installation and use. In an act of desperation I ran to the library and picked up every irrigation book I could find and fortunately for me this was one of them. I realize the previous reviewer claimed that this book only provides basic information but for me that's exactly what I needed and it's been a huge help. Finally, I understand the various components that make up a sprinkler system, the termonology I wasn't quite sure about (from reading other inferior books) and the benefits/drawbacks of both sprinkler and drip systems. I wish I could have gotten away with just buying and reading this book instead of spending hundreds of dollars and enduring four hours a week for eleven weeks in a worthless class.

4 comments about Growing Fruit (RHS Encyclopedia of Practical Gardening).
- I have an extensive home orchard with 56 trees (18 varietals) of fruit and nut trees. This little volume covered everything I needed in a short, erudite and amazingly well-detailed volume. I live in the Southeastern US and this book was spot on everything from blueberries to stone fruits and pears and apples, (not to mention Walnuts and Filberts). It covers everything from soil preparation, pruning, fertilization, pests and diseases, propagation, healing-in, ad infinitum. I have nearly every book available on fruit and nut production for the home orchard. This is the best one I own by leaps and bounds.
- This is an informative book without being boring. Lots of diagrams. The book is laid out well and it's easy to find the information.
- I am very glad I purchased this book before I started planting my fruit trees. I did not realize what needed to be done, for best results, before the trees were planted. I also got a better idea of the size fruit trees I needed for our use. The book is very informative. I look forward to studying it during the summer and, hopefully, starting the planting of trees in late fall when everything is prepared. It is a little complicated to follow and I found I needed real quiet to get the details lined out. I had to take many notes in order get everything into a easy format to follow.
- I never tire of looking through my Growing Fruit book, and find endless new things about fruit everytime I do read it. The subject is fascinating and the drawings well executed. I work in a garden nursery, am a horticulture student, and have a small garden of my own; helping customers with their fruit tree problems and small garden fruit needs is one of my tasks. Some people are looking at fruit trees for their smaller gardens, having never been able to consider them before due to size issues and the like. This is a small career investment I am glad I made.

5 comments about Armitage's Native Plants for North American Gardens.
- I found this book an excellent reference to have for studying native plants. It should be in your personal library.
- Good presentation of native plants, but could have more photos of some of the more obscure species. The book is slanted more toward the southeast and east U.S. Representation of western species is not as strong as it could be, but overall a very interesting book.
- I gave this book as a gift and have heard wonderful things about it. This book is very useful for help planning for choosing native plants and for figuring out where to plant natives in a garden.
- Really great book. I got it from the library and just couldn't get enough of it. ...so I bought it and am glad I did. Great conversational writing makes it a joy to read. Really helps you figure out what plants will work best for you.
- I received this book very quickly and in excellent condition, exactly as described. I find Armitage's books (this is my third) to be informative, beautifully illustrated, and entertaining to read. The author is witty and opiniated, besides being very well informed. I look forward to ordering more of his publications, especially if Amazon makes them available!
