- This is the second Tova Martin book I have purchased. There are so many beautiful photos that you won't even look at the text the first time through! Once you do, though, you'll find the text very informative on plant types and other wonderful tips.
Window boxes and container gardens are a must in our mountain community -- this book will give you terrific ideas for anywhere in the country, beachfront or Rocky Mts! Great coffee table book too.

- I have a black thumb when it comes to gardening. The minute that I stray from proven plants everything dies. Peter's book in plain english makes it simple for even the challenged to have a beautiful garden. Landscape plans are given along with plant lists with common and latin names. In the back is a reference for the plants with information on caring for them. Good book for beginners and a great book for referencing.

3 comments about Ortho's All About Houseplants (Ortho's All About Gardening).
- A great book for beginners, with a section on how to measure the amount of light your plants receive which I found to be very helpful. The last section lists some houseplants commonly found in any supermarket or flosrist shop. Excellent color photos.
- This is one of those great books that helps beginners feel as though this gardening thing isn't so difficult after all. Plenty of photos and easy-to-follow instructions for plant care make Ortho's All About Houseplants an essiential for anyone who
wants to know the basic tips for growing houseplants. The "What Can Go Wrong" section extensively covers human errors, insects and diseases - which cause so many new healthy plants to go bad in a hurry. I highly recommend this guide for any gardener's book collection.
- A very informitiv book a great book for beginer and the expert . Well writen clear instruction picture well done thankyou

- This is a comprehensive book on house plant care. This answers almost every question you may have on how to care for your plant. There is a great section on pests and diseases and the photos are helpful in letting you spot what the problem is with your plant. The gallery of houseplants also tells you how much light, water, humidity and temperature each plant needs as well as grooming, fertilization, propagation info and problems you may encounter with each plant. There's a table listing the lighting requirement for various houseplants so you can plan where to put your next purchase and there is also a small section on decorating with your plants. This guide is very easy to use and I highly recommend it as a great resource for anyone interested in having beautiful houseplants.
- Haiku: 5-7-5.
In the spirit of this volume, a few examples (poorly rendered) of this poetic form:
# 1:
Oh, I love houseplants,
Which bring nature to our homes,
And, with it, comfort.
# 2:
Dracaenas are friends,
Arms stretching toward the sky,
Janet Craig, so fine. . . .
[Note: Janet Craig is one variety of Dracaena plant]
# 3:
Colorful Croton,
Often hard to keep alive,
But--if so--beauty.
# 4:
Spider plants are friends,
Making oxygen for us,
Soaking up poisons.
Well, it's not Shelley or Keats or Shakespeare. . . .
This book is very helpful for those of us with plants. It covers the basics: care for plants in general, how to propagate plants, and so on. But, for me, the key to this book is a plant by plant survey. I have tried Crotons, dracaenas, philodendrons, yuccas, Christmas cactus, and so on. For each plant, you get basic information about how to care for them and increase the odds of successful nurturance.
So, whatever the virtue of my effort at poetry, this is a fine volume for those with houseplants.

- As far as I know, this is the FIRST history of the family garden, also known as the "kitchen" garden and its evolution from a purely practical, food garden to community gardens, self-help programs, etc. From Thomas Jefferson to modern day gardening, this book has it all! Great read, wonderful find for gardeners.

3 comments about Guide to Growing Healthy Houseplants (Miracle Gro).
- This book was a very helpful guide with great coloured pictures. It's easy to read and understand. With this book I was finally able to identify some plants that I had.
- Overall very concise and informative on each specific house plant. My only peeve is that the pictures of each species be larger. Small pictures makes it hard to identify the right species of unknown plants.
- The Miracle Gro guide to houseplants is much better than many other houseplant books in one respect: there are so many detailed photographs on the actual care and maintanence of houseplants. Many other houseplant books I've read have drawings or just explanations of how to repot plants and other similar tasks. There are some great step-by-step instructions in this book.
One problem with this book is the way that the plant sections are laid out. I found it difficult to locate certain plants. All the plants are listed alphabetically by their common name. This shouldn't be too big of problem, except many of my plants I do not know the common name of. Also, if you are looking up, say, Orchids, they are spread all over the listing because of the different variations. I wish all the Orchids were in one sections, subdivided by subspecies from there.
There are some great pictures in this book; however, some of the plant pictures are a little small. Overall, this is a nice book to use in conjunction with other houseplant guides. I would not consider this the definative houseplant guide but it was definately worth the time I invested in reading it.
