- This little book was all I needed to start out and finish my year round greenhouse gardening plan. From its year round gardening callender to its helpfull tips the author shows tremendous knowledge in the area of greenhouse gardening, in a very practical way. For anyone who would like to start, or anyone looking for fresh ideas I recomend reading this book. Thank you Greta!
- Good basic beginners book. Limited number of pages of information that could have been more detailed. I am just exploring building a greenhouse and was seeking advice from this book. I did increase my knowledge to some degree and was not overly disappointed considering the low price but I will need to keep searching for a "better" book.

- The book was a good introduction/overview to Greenhouses. However, I felt that it was too shallow. It covers a large number of topics, but, I felt, not in enough depth. I am about to build a greenhouse and do my first greenhouse gardening. This book did not have enough information for me to feel that I could do it without additional references.

1 comments about The Homeowner's Complete Handbook for Add-On Solar Greenhouses & Sunspaces: Planning, Design, Construction.
- From back cover:
"Solar heat, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a place to bask in the sun -- an attached solar greenhouse or sunspace is the only home improvement that gives you all of these benefits. To get the most out of your greenhouse, it has to be properly sited and sized; built for energy-efficiency, durability and low maintenance; and designed to integrate with the style and shape of your home.
Twelve fact-filled chapters answer these questions - and more:
* What design is best for your site, climate and budget?
* Should you buy a manufactured greenhouse or build one?
* How big should it be, and how much heat will it produce?
* What are the best interior designs for plant growing?
* How much room do you need for the living space you want?
* How much fresh food will your greenhouse produce?
* How can you use tax incentives to cut your costs?
With over 120 figures and 75 photos, this is the only book you'll need to get the job done, and done right."

- Great book with lots of great pictures. Covers all types of greenhouses, materials for building them, pre-fab kits, accessories, watering ideas, air circulation, and more. With all the pics, you can get great ideas about how you want yours to look.
- Having moderate experience in gardening, no experience in greenhouse gardening, but unlimited desire to learn, Ortho's Greenhouses was a treasure of information. I learned enough to decide if this was an endeavor I had the resources for, and was able to have an intelligent conversation with my contractor about building a greenhouse. The book is thorough in all aspects of greenhouse considerations from initial plans to continuing expenses. A great investment!
- I was left with more questions than answers after reading this book. There was a tidbit on most every subject but it didn't give me enough to feel like I could proceed with my plans for building or gardening in a greenhouse
- As I find true with most of the "Ortho" books, this one is pretty impressive. It is not very big but they have a knack for getting a lot of info into a small amount of real estate. It doesn't tell you everything there is to know about greenhouses and greenhouse growing, but if you are looking for a book to get you started that won't take six months to read (or figure out!), this is the book you need.
- This was the first book I got in my quest for a greenhouse, and I found it worth twice it's cost. While it is not lengthy, it gives great insite into the home or hobby greenhouse.. from history, to "how to," to purchasing a kit, to what to grow. It's honest and to the point. I've read it cover to cover so as not to miss anything, and found useful information in every chapter! A worthy purchase for those considering the purchase of a home greenhouse.

- This book is an invaluable addition to the available literature. Never before has so much useful information about the physiology and biology of greenhouse plants and their growth been assembled in one book. Hanan has combed the literature, inclucing very recent developments, with a fine-tooth comb. The over 1700 reference citations alone are worth the price of the book. This is the reference book for those who want to understand the whys and wherefores of plant growth under greenhouse conditions, who recognize the complexities of the factors at work, and are willing to make the effort to make use of the scientific information that is available. If it's available, it's in this book--clearly and concisely presented, with many graphs and illustrations. In addition, it contains much useful information about sensors and controls for climate control and promotion of growth in greenhouse environments.
- The author Dr, Joe J. Hanan, Professor Emeritus of Colorado State Univeersity, is the recipient of the Society of American Florists' (SAF) 2000 (Millenium) Alex Laurie Award for Research and Education. The Alex Laurie Award is presented annually to an individual who has made broad-scope, long-lasting contributions to the floriculture industry through research or education. The award is named for Alex Laurie, a professor at The Ohio State University, who pioneered work in many areas of floriculture.
"Joe is one of the most precise floricultural researchers I have known" said Dr. A.A. De Hertogh, Chairman of the SAF's Research Committee. "That excellence is reflected in his latest book, Greenhouses, Advanced Technology for Protected Horticulture, which was published in 1998, nine years after his official retirement."
- It a great book to have in only one book all the knowledge, nevertheless in some parts is so technical and arguments are confused.

1 comments about Gardening Under Cover: A Northwest Guide to Solar Greenhouses, Cold Frames, and Cloches.
- The book was helpful, with ideas for extending the growing season in the Pacific Northwest with several simple designs for cloches and coldframes. However, it is noteable that almost half of the book is devoted to greenhouse gardening in and designs for a "solar" greenhouse. Other northwest gardening experts I have read (ex., Steve Solomons, "Gardening West of the Cascades") state that "solar" greenhouses do not work in our perpetually cloudy winter climate, greenhouses must be all glass.

1 comments about Greenhouse Operation and Management (6th Edition).
- Nelson's text is probably the most widely used on college campuses offering greenhouse management. It is up to date, full of technical information, and the chapters are well-ordered.
My only complaint is that it is VERY badly formatted and so, difficult to read. Like the Biblical book of Numbers, it will have you sawing logs if read at bedtime. The publisher could learn alot from Boodley's The Commercial Greenhouse, which is much more readable.

1 comments about The Commercial Greenhouse.
- This is a good book, written as a first or second year college text book. It covers many topics associated with commercial greenhouse operations in a general manner, with a few topics covered in greater depth. It is informative and worth having on your shelf if your considering a commercial greenhouse operation.
