4 comments about Flair with Flowers: New Ideas for Arranging Familiar Flowers.
  1. I have been reading and buying floral design books for years. Paula Pryke is the most creative imaginative artist I have ever seen in this field. And she shares all of her creative ideas and techniques with the reader. If I pick up this book and start reading it I cannot put it down! I lent both of her books Flowers Flowers! and Flair with Flowers to a friend who said the same thing! There is a flood of new floral decorating books out there and none of them can come close to these two books!

  2. British florist Paula Pryke and photographer Kevin Summers have produced a stunning book of floral designs which is well worth owning. Amateur and professional floral designers alike will be charmed by the quality and variety of the photographs as well as the very readable and informative text. This book is a must-have for arrangers interested in new ideas.

The chapters center on specific flowers (e.g. orchids, gerbera daisies, roses) which is a unique approach.

The book would make a lovely coffee table book for those who just enjoy beautiful floral design photography. For those of us who take floral arranging seriously, it is an inspiration.

  3. This book is absolutely wonderful! Paula has created beautiful arrangements in this book. Every page contains yet another arrangement to take your breath away. Not only that, but Paula makes her creations available for all of us to try. The information and history about each flower is also extremely interesting.

Whether you're a lover of flowers or of beautiful photography (of which I am both), this book is definitely worth buying.

  4. Just so you know this book is the exact same book as Flower innovations; Flair with flowers is just a newly published edition. You can confirm this by looking on the amazon site under product details of both books.

4 comments about Flowers for Your Wedding Day: A Guide to Creating Beautiful Bouquets, Arrangements & Decorations.
  1. When I started reading this book, I was really hoping that it would help me shave off some of the exorbitant costs associated with weddings by allowing me to make some of my own flower arrangements. While this is a beautiful book, I can't say that it does what the title says. True, it shows a really nice and easy to make headband wreath, but that was the extent of the knowledge I got from this book. The pictures, at best, give you some ideas about flower arrangements, but some are unclear and often it seems that the scenery and the people in the pictures are the subject, instead the flowers. In a how-to flower guide I would assume that the flowers should take center stage. Overall, I would give it a C+.

  2. When I ordered this book I was hoping to find actual floral arrangement diagrams for a wedding, and while the book is nice, and the illustrations are pretty, they weren't very resourceful for someone who is looking to create they own floral arrangements. The content, instructions, etc. just are not there. If you want to look at some pretty pictures to get ideas for decorating, or to take to a seasoned florist, it may be useful, but this is not a how-to book. This book would be better suited to a person who is looking for new ideas, but who already has a background in floral arranging. To say the least I was very dissappointed.

  3. I am a florist and I purchase books for my shop that can spark the imagination of prospect brides. This book was outdated with very little selection for today's bride.

  4. This is a very nice book with lovely pictures. However as a practical guide to creating boquets and arrangements it has little to offer.

  1. A wonderful book with instructions on making a press, designing a picture, and applying pressed flowers to candles, glass, porcelain and paper. The book is full of color photos, some sketches, and contains chapters on Working with Pressed Flowers, Simple Projects, Using Thermaseal, Ideas for Christmas, Projects for Special Occasions, Working with Resin, and The Pressed Flower Garden. Includes a long list of plants that press well, with Latin and common names, a brief description of the plant or flower and pressing tips.

5 comments about Elton John's Flower Fantasies : An Intimate Tour of His Houses and Garden.
  1. Wow ... "amazing" is the best word I can come up with! I have been looking at decorating books for about a year since I bought my dream house. I stumbled upon this book, and have since bought copies for my Mom, my in-laws, my best friend, my gardeners, my designer, ...! I guess I am now their best customer! I plan to give a copy to my designer and say "Here, do this!"

    Need I say more?

  2. Excellent pictorial of an extravagant livestyle! Hard to belive, though, that there is a gross misprint on page 16-- the lyrics from "Your Song" are attributed to "Mona Lisa & Mad Hatters"! Oops!

  3. This book has awesome pictures of Elton John's homes, it focuses on the flowers in his houses. This book would be great to put on a coffe table, and a must for an Elton fan. I highly recommend it!

  4. Elton John is an aristocrat, not only because the Queen said so. He demonstrates this in every day life, in the way he admits his weaknesses, in his involvement for beautiful causes. His house on French Riviera is a jewell. It's almost "too much". But "too much" is never enough for Elton. Thanks to the great pictures from this book you will discover a yellow castle between blue sky, deep blue sea and green grass. White structure of the house creates a contrast with blue, green and yellow. These colours could have been chosen by David Hockney. Original style of this house was respected. Flowers are every where. Furniture is on line with the overall "villegiature" style. Don't dream "too much", this "Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat" life-style has a price. But who talked about money, here? Not Elton, for sure. This is, again, a demonstration of the noble qualities of that man. Never in the whole book, you will find any decoration detail that could make you think it is here to impress people or to demonstrate power. What a paradox! this modern excentric, in the tradition on XVIIIth century english excentricity, never looks arrogant. None of his crazy demonstrations of "luxe" make you feel bad. The Atlanta house is more interesting because of the beautiful furniture and made to order closets for collections of ... everything. This book is a tribute to pleasure, good taste (yes!) and high-life. I learned this word from Johnny Weissmuller in Acapulco (pie de la cuesta beach), just before he died. I think it is quite appropriate to describe what these houses are made for.

  5. This book is so wonderful, now everyone an see how fresh flowers can enhance your life and your surroundings.

Thanks Elton for allowing us into your home.
