- A great compilation of Frome's works. I found myself engrossed in it as if reading a new Grisham novel. This book contains everything from the basics on Video Poker to humorous anecdotes to quizzes to test what you have learned.

- This entire book is simply to basic to be of much value--unless you need someone to tell you where the coins go into the machine. The content struck me as an intro (and advertisement) for the more "advanced" books advertised on the last page--namely the playing strategies you probably thought you were getting this round.
There's better information on the web.
- I agree with the other eviewr... this i nothing more than an ad for the more "advanced books" the author sells. Save your money. This is garbage.
- Very thin. Don't buy this book. There are too many other good video poker books out there to waste a cent on this book. I would suggest something from John Grochowski.
- Small book picked up the Gambler's bookshop in Vegas to give a few tips for the occasional bit of recreational gambling while there.

- It was a good tutor type book, I read it some time ago, decided to review it to see what I forgot. I was hoping to get another book by him or a similar book. I am not a big winner, but the book helped me to at least hold my own while playing.
If you are going to play, get this book!

- After reading this book, I lose just as much money, but now I know why I do. Seriously, I have bought several of Nestor's books. They are all fantastic books, well worth the price you pay. Nestor knows gambling and knows statistics. He does not try to sell you on any questionable, feel- good, strategies. This is straight forward, honest, scientifically-based advice. As for this particular book, I bought it for the section on Video Poker. My main complaint is that I am not a slot player. Therefore, I wish Nestor has put out a separate, larger book on Video Poker or combined it into one of his other books. The section on Video Poker is very informative, but sort of rushed as it has to fit into a small section of the book.

2 comments about Beyond Counting : Exploiting Casino Games from Blackjack to Video Poker.
- For professional gamblers, this book is the best you'll ever get.
Grosjean presents a wide variety of material. This text assumes the reader is a successful gambler, and has mastered all beginner and intermediate material. If you are a blackjack card-counter and have made 50k from BJ, you have the background to fully appreciate this book.
This presents material from two different angles, each of which is original. He first analyzes traditional games (not just Blackjack) and shows you ways to beat them, with a mathematical focus on exploiting weak dealers (there is an exceptional analyzis of 3-card poker). Second, he presents a new way of thinking for "textbook gamblers" (those who profit from books, but don't develop original ideas for themselves.) This focus opened my eyes to new ways to profit, notably in Blackjack. One other thing that is surprising for a book of this price - the methods explained are legal.
Some auction sites will list this book from $500-$2000. If 1. you don't know people "in the know", 2. you have at least 50k in capital, and 3. you play a lot of +EV BJ, this book is worth the auction price.
Before you buy a used copy, be aware that Grosjean is releasing a new edition of "Beyond Counting" in 2006 or early 2007. Grosjean's website notes that there might be two versions - the normal one, and one for accredited professionals. Given what I read in the original edition, it would not surprise me if he removed a lot of exceptional material for the republication.
- This is an amazingly lucid and very useful book. It provides valuable advice to get an edge in many casino games - all legal advice, of course. Essential, but, sadly, hard to get.
Regarding the sequel: It is already about a year late, and the publishers stopped posting publishing date updates on their website in February 2007.

5 comments about Powerful Profits From Video Poker.
- From time to time I check to see how other people feel about my favorite Video Poker book. I look to see what people write about other books on casino games, and about Video Poker in particular. I am often amazed at the obvious intellectual inferiority of some of these people who so viciously lambaste books that they obviously don't understand.
One such numb-nuts that I just read is from Scarsdale, New York. Perhaps he has some serious personal problems, because what he says about the usefulness of this book is just plainly wrong! If you really want to know which Video Poker games are the best, and why, then you should have this book. It's a simple fact that the information presented in that book is not only timely, but factual. Royer's information comes directly from the very people who designed and built these programs that run these machines. If the person from Scarsdale, New York isn't willing to admit his shortcomings in the way he complete misunderstands the purpose of this book, then the fault is his and his only. I don't think that the tremendous value of this book should be diminished by one person's obvious hatred for something he can't himself understand. Maybe he's a friend of that other acid-tongued reader from Gurnee, IL. Don't you think so? This reviewer's main concern seems to be that there are some typographical errors in the book. If there are, then this should be directed at the typesetters of the manuscript, and not at the content of the work by the Author. In 350 pages, there is a lot of value to be so terribly misunderstood by such a person as this, and all because he thought some typos made him angry? I think you should all look at the entire body of the work by this Author, and how detailed and dedicated his works are to this subject. In this book on Video Poker, he has done what others have feared to do -- that is to tell the real and actual truth of the game as it really is. This book is a real and valuable tool, and essential for your gaming success. Just because there are some misguided persons who can't understand it doesn't mean they are correct in their misinterpretation. This book is something you should have. I do.
- I come to Las Vegas first time. My friend she give me this book, so I learn her favorite game. I like book very much. Is very good book. I have good time, and I also buy book. In this book I find everything I need to be good player. All kinds of machines you will find in this book. Also you will see all programs that running the games. There is very much more good information in this book also.
There is one page with very good chart. Chart show all the kind of machine and program and how much it pay. Also how to find it. You look at the machine, and if you know how to look, you will find great paying one. I not only have good time, but I also win money. If you want also to win money, you get this book. It pay for itself many times, and pay me also. If you get book and learn what is here, it also pay you.
- Mr. Royer's Powerful Profits for Video Poker is well worth the price of admission. He is obviously wise and practical and knows the game inside out. The knowldege I have acquired have permitted me to know what I need in terms of playing Video Poker, so if you are a regular joe or joanna out there and is planning to get serious, this book if just what the doctor ordered. Repetition is the mother of skill but knowledge is still one step above. Buy immediately, now!!! (I'm just being pushy, do forgive me).
- I thought I knew a lot about video poker until I read Mr. Royer's Powerful Profits-Video Poker book. He gives an in depth discussion about what kind of machines to look for, what all the pay tables and percentages mean, and keys to winning consistently. A person who reads this book will be light years ahead of the average video poker player. I actually read parts of this book years later and it even made more sense after having played video poker in casinos using Mr. Royer's knowledge and strategies as outlined in his book. It is a must read for anyone wanting to become a consistent winner at video poker.
- All in all it is a very informative book. It tells you how to locate better paying video poker machines. However, there are no guarantees about winning when gambling.

- The authors give the reader a comprehensive understanding of how Video Poker machines are programmed and how they function. They also give three strategies for optimum play which are excellent guidelines for conservative players to those willing to take higher risks. Their advice on play is good common sense.

5 comments about Winning Strategies for Video Poker.
- Frome has put together the best book on VP if you want to win. It includes the strategies for 60 of the most popular games out there including the very popular DOUBLE BONUS/DOUBLE-DOUBLE BONUS Games.
I was in Las Vegas back in February, and I found a strategy table in here for virtually every game I could find in a casino. Nothing is left out!
- I go to LV a couple of times a year and take frequent day trips to Atlantic City as well. I always make sure to bring this book with me. The book helps me make sure I only play the best paying machines with the best pay tables.
It has the strategy tables for more than 60 variations of Video Poker which makes it easy to learn how to play the version you like the most. I also own the companion software which lets me practice on the same versions of the games and tells me when I make a mistake in playing. If you play Video Poker, you HAVE to have this book
- The author is a former rocket scientist and the book contains many charts that the "average" person may find difficult to fathom. There are very few explanations for the terms used in the charts and minimal examples. The beginning player wants to know why video poker is so popular; the difference between normal slots and video poker; what are full-pay machines. If you are just starting out - don't start with this book.
- I am a regular video poker player. I had heard many positive things about Mr. Frome's book, though I do not generally anjoy reading. The book was very enjoyable to read and immediately improved my play and that was very rewarding, if you know what I mean. I highly recomend the book for players at any level.
- A wonderful, comprehensive, easy to read book on video poker. It makes it easy and fun to play the game and to know you are making the right play. Lenny Frome deserves his title as master of video poker. I started out not really knowing how to play the game but now I love playing and feel confident that I am using the winning strategy! The EV tables make are easy to use. I also suggest reading VP Americas National Game of Chance by the same author.

- This is an amazing book. It's so entertaining and easy to read you don't even realize how much you're learning. The author asks questions I'd never even thought of, then he answers them so clearly and logically that I had no trouble absorbing the information. I've read a lot of blackjack books and was never really clear on the whys behind some of the recommendations. With this book, now I know what all the others were talking about.
