5 comments about MechWarrior: Dark Age Novel 4: A Silence In The Heavens (Mechwarrior).
  1. Being a fan of BattleTech for over 10 years, I must say I've seen my share of good and bad novels, soucre books, games, etc... I was not very happy with the new Dark Age setting, as somet things just dont make too much sense (I am still struggling with the fact that some Clans - or maybe all - actually GAVE UP their mechs). I think there is a lack of consistency in this series - and this book. If A. Kerensky is such a good MW, she should have ripped the Paladin apart. Second, the Clans are depicted as rather naive - being tricked very easily. This may have been the case when they first invaded, but even in Classical Btech they learned lessons!! Did they actually FORGET everything? After living in the IS for decades, one would think they'd learn something about the people they live with.

The story itself is not bad, but the action is little ridiculus.

  2. As with most Battletech readers, when I heard about a whole new set of novels coming out, i thought, great.
But my god, what is this rubbish?
They made a little circle, called it the republic, and everyone gave up there mechs (which makes calling the series Mechwarriors pretty wierd).
All the good characters are gone, you hear a tiny bit about Victor Davion and his kids, but thats it.
The whole thing doesn't make any sence. If the Republic is falling apart, is the rest of the IS just watching? Who is incharge of the Great Houses? Why have the clans given up all their Mechs too? Doesn't that stop them being clansmen?
The whole of Mechwarrior DarkAge makes no sence, is badly explained, and ruined (for me atleast) the whole battletech series. After all, it takes some of the enjoyment out of reading the clasic Battletech books when you know that ultimatley every storyline in battletech doesn't follow on into this, evey plot, all the history, isn't reflected in anyway in the new Dark Age series.
I bought a load of these Dark Age books in one go, and I wish I'd just got one first, because I wouldn't have bought any others.
Anyone whole Likes Battletech, stay well away from these books. Complete Crap.

  3. This was a good book, and i enjoyed reading it. It had a good plot and good characters. I'm not much of a writer so thats about all I have to say except for I'm getting sick of constructions mechs. I miss the good old days when the fighting involved battle mechs not construction equipment. I miss Super Novas, Mad Cats, Thors, ect.

They can't call the book mechwarrior when there are like four actual battlemechs in the story. Plus one was a koshi, and as far as I'm concerned a koshi is just as bad as a construction mech.

Thats the only problem I have with these books, aside from the lack of mechs, and actual fighting these books are okay.

  4. A well written book that includes lots of mech battles, a great heroine with the countess of Northwind who is a Mechwarrior of the highest order, perhaps one of the greatest of her time.

  5. Another book that isn't very popular with the fanbase (indeed, an entire trilogy that got rather roasted upon release), I thought that A SILENCE IN THE HEAVENS was pretty good at the time. While my opinion has mellowed slightly, it's still a pretty good book.

A SILENCE IN THE HEAVENS picks up where A Call to Arms left off, with Tassa Kay--Anastasia Kerensky--in the hands of the Steel Wolves. Being the ambitious female dog... err, wolf--that she is, she wastes no time getting down to business and taking the Steel Wolves under her wing.

While the book does a great job of setting up Kerensky's command of the Wolves, and the impending conflict with Northwind, it then tries to bring the two into active conflict on Northwind. Unfortunately, this battle is rather hastily carried out, without the Wolves' full forces; they're sent running when it seems like they didn't really try. It seems like there wasn't enough room for the authors to play with this battle; it was meant to set up the next book, Truth and Shadows, but it only succeeded in undermining said setup.

As a standalone book, the ending is weak--but there's two more books coming after it, which build on the much stronger basis of the book's beginning. It doesn't work as a standalone, but as a part of the trilogy or the series it's an enjoyable evolution of the Wolves.

5 comments about World of Warcraft(r): The Burning Crusade Binder Bundle (World of Warcraft) (World of Warcraft).
  1. I was expecting the book to be in a binder form. Imagine my dismay when I got a paper notebook binder? The paperback guides do fall apart after alot of use, how nice it would have been if it were in a notebook form in a decent binder.

  2. Im an Avid WOW player, the manual contains great info, but the book itself fell apart in three weeks time. also the binder broke as well. Stick to buying the game guide alone, the package isn't worth it.

  3. In all honesty, you cant find the binder in say any retail store usually which makes it a collectors item. And any binder or book will wear out (they are made of biodegradable material after all) over time and lots of use *shrugs* I found the book v facinating and v helpful and plan on using the binder to hold printouts of questing material from various sources on the web. Thanks!!

  4. Binder is fragile
Binder is too small hold more than one of the guides
The guides are not hole punched and they are bound therefore the two don't go together
Guides are mostly collections of facts not text describing how to get the most out of the game.

  5. If you don't have it and are in WOW TBC get it !
This is even a special edition so if you a collector buy 2 ,the price is a steal !!!

1 comments about Internet Hold'em Poker: Plus 7-card stud, Omaha, and other games.
  1. I'm fairly new to poker, being more of a blackjack guy, so I figured I should try out some reading material before going online and losing all my money. I read a few books that weren't very good and then in the bookstore I found this one. Right now on Amazon the cover is wrong, I know because that's what drew me to the book. It's a great cover (hands coming out of a laptop holding poker chips, you have to see it). I flipped through the book and saw that it actually had some good advice, starting from the basics of poker, which was very helpful. There's also a lot of stuff in the book geared toward experienced and advanced players but I'm not going to get into those parts.

The book showed me how to play the game and what differences there are online. Even online tells! I didn't think those existed but now I seem to have a pretty great advantage everytime I play. It even has diagrams to show you exactly what to do. It has so many example plays and tells you what to do for specific hands, flops, and opponents. The book is easy to read and navigate through and the writing is very clear and concise (the book is short but has a lot of information). It also has some information on non-hold'em games, like omaha and 7-card stud.

I've read a lot of poker books now that I started playing and this one was definitely one of the most thorough and helpful. I now win money almost every time I play hold'em online. I'm really glad I found this book.

5 comments about The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time Perfect Guide.
  1. This Book has got to be the best guide book ever written for a game. It has detailed maps, but they are not so detailed that it gives you a headache or anything. It tells you how to do everything, including how to get Epona the horse. It also doesn't leave gaps like other guide books that tell you about one room, then just skip to the next one, without telling you how to get there. It also feels like the writer is talking to you, and makes it enjoyable to read.

  2. This is the world's greatest strategy guide! It is so detailed and interesting that you could read it for pleasure (I did). With pictures and step by step instructions, any kid who can read could beat the Ocarina Of Time with it. I am almost thirteen and I've loved it since I was 9.

  3. Many people say that this guide has too much language, it IS an E rated game but I say who gives a sh*t! HAHAHA! Also it doesn't tell about the best kept secret in the game the sinking fish lure. Go to the fishing pond in lake hylia as an adult ONLY, and search the perimeter of the pond, then go to the small stream in the back (that flows into the pond) and look in the rocks, if it's not there then go to then log in the middle of the pond, it'll be there and you'll know it when you get it. You can cetch the loach which is 36? pounds. The biggest i've caught is 20, with a regular hook the biggest was 19. Thank me later

  4. I think it's the best srategy guide made for OoT. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to collect in the game (except for the sinking lure). And for those who admire OoT art and love the characters -- it has it all!

  5. I'm not a kid, I just didn't want to reveal my account. Anyway, this is a very thorough guide and includes everything but the sinking lure, but the author uses the words d**n, cr*p, a**, and p*ssed throughout the book. This may not be a good choice for younger children.

1 comments about The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King (Prima's Offical Strategy Guide).
  1. I bought this book just to help me out on Minas Tirith - Top of the Wall - because I couldn't figure out exactly what I was supposed to be doing. I did refer to this book a couple of times along the way. I have just finished the game and re-playing some of the levels with different characters just for fun. If you are having any kind of trouble with this game, this guide offers some good tips. It is excellent at showing you how to beat all the bosses and finding missed items and offers some good strategies for each level. If you don't want to read any hints, then don't read the next few sentences. The guide book tells you how to defeat the Nazgul at the "Black Gate" with Aragorn. If you are having too much trouble doing this (as I did), change your character to Gandalf. Gandalf's magic arrows do ten times more damage to the Nazgul than if you use Gimli, Aragorn, or Legolas.
