5 comments about Clanbook: Malkavian (Vampire: The Masquerade).
  1. This book was truly a waste of money. It's childish and provides no useful information for any campaign, even those focusing on Malkavs. While some of the jokes are amusing the first time around, I can get more entertainment from the daily funnies. I've seen real insanity, and this didn't even come close. It was more akin to the old Daffy Duck mentality.

  2. This book, is not as good as the other clan books, but its hilarious and some people don't get the jokes that why they think its a waste of time and money but! BOOM! It really help a malkavian roleplayer get into character and I agree if yer a true Malkav DO YOU NEED A MIRROR? I dun think so! Byede BYE!

  3. The book has some cool illustrations, gives a good overview of the malkavian history, and of course is hard to follow because it is based on the essence of maddness. So if you are looking for something concrete, find something else. However, if you are a Vampire: The Masquerade enthusiast, then by all means go for it.

  4. The Malkavian Clan book is at first a laugh riot for any Vampire player: but for those who want to be From the clan of Malkav it will rapidly become a book of continued refrence. When you take into account that being insane is not as easy as it seems the patterns of madness in this book give the player a different look on what can be accomplished. My own madman took on a new depth after reading this book. As an aside look for the story of the elephant it tells us all we need to know about the first clans. A must for any would be Psycopathic bloodsucker.

  5. This book is not for every one,if you like to be an outcasat and the"crazy"one who few understand, then this clan and book is great, the only defect, seriuos people find it ? and also some drawings ade 3 year old like, but they also have some awsome ones!BUY IT if you are insane enough, because if you find it a waste of money,LOOK THERE ARE MORE CLANS!

2 comments about Caine's Chosen: The Black Hand.
  1. Well I have to say this book definitely puts the Black Hand into a new light; the sect (or subsect) is just as mysterious as the Inconnu to many and this book really fixes the mistakes 2nd edition made. It clarifies all of the True Hand/Severed Hand etc.. stuff that 2nd Edition tried to confuse us with; alot of good information is given but it's only essential if you play a Black Hand in Tabletop or on a MU* (Mush/MUX etc..).

If you enjoy reading or collecting the various books or even playing the Pcs I'd say buy this book

  2. As I approached ending my story of six summers I wanted to get the Black Hand and others involved, give the players, all fairly powerful by now, some intense challenges. However while this book gave information on the types of Kindred who run in this secret groups it didn't really give me much guidance in creating NPCs. No big list of sample characters or detailed instructions on how to create them. I was disappointed -- I could have made those NPCs without the book frankly.

2 comments about Victorian Age: Vampire.
  1. V:tVA has been a long-awaited chapter in the World of Darkness story. It's a brilliant concept, but somewhat lacking in execution. Albeit, my opinion is biased, for I favor the older supplements rather than these newer ones. But it is a bias on the basis of product quality, of which the revised editions of thw World of Darkness games have begun to lack.

The book itself is rather straightforward in its design and execution of Vampire in a Victorian setting. It is a sparse read, even if laced with provocative enough detail to encourage your own research forthwith. Still, for anyone with an interest in the Victorian age as a setting for Vampire, this is an excellent primer, especially with those with little time or inclination to engage in personal research. It is comprehensive, thorough, and provides a snapshot of the Kindred in an age past.

When one stops considering its merits, a few flaws become obvious. The art, for one matter, is rather bland and even vague in places- witness one Guy Davis. His work summarily detracts from the piece, and the task of realizing the Dark Victorian age is thus thrust upon the remainder of the artistic staff. Otherwise, the art is excellent, if monotone (yet not entirely inappropriate, given the material and setting). The tone of the narrative is also somewhat pedantic in places (particularly, the in-character dialogue), demonstrating the 'gother-than-thou' attitude prevalent among the subculture.

Congratulations, White Wolf, on another just-above-mediocre product. Were you to invest a little more time into writing a guide to literary and artistic achievement, instead of pandering to Azrael Abyss and his ilk, this would truly be a sourcebook 'for the ages.' A true classic has been tainted by commercialism, a sad testament to the American method of publication.

  2. WW has for many years provided historical settings for its games. Namely, Dark Ages for vampire and other games, this setting takes vampire to its roots in the gothic genre. Of all the historical settings, the gothic era provides the most for the avid roleplaying enthusiast. This is not a setting for power gamers, rather it is a finely developed melieu for sophisticated storytelling and characterization. Of all the WW supplements (this book requires you to have the Vampire: the masquerade core rulebook), victorian age vampire will delight those players that can appreciate the gothic era and its influence on the vampire as metaphor.

3 comments about Clash of Wills (Vampire: The Dark Ages).
  1. If you need information on the lords of medieval England's Long Night, it's here. If you're looking for an adventure set in medieval England's Long Night, well, you might want to think twice.

This adventure is strictly linear -- the same events will occur whether the players try to counter them, try to promote them, or go on pilgrimage to Rome instead of playing this adventure. If your group prefers linear gaming, you'll probably like "Clash of Wills". If not, you will need to do a lot of editing before you run it; and it might be just as easy to write your own adventure.

  2. Having been most impressed with the Dark Ages Genre in general, I was very very disapointed with this title. Linear, not well thought out... and boring to boot.

A complete dog! Dont buy it.

  3. I completely disagree with the other two reviewers. Clash of Wills is an excellent starting point for a VtDA chronicle. My only complaint is that's it's way too short (short but sweet :-)).

As for the plot: there are many possible branches (the book explains what to do for each different choice), the players aren't forced to do anything, and some events may indeed take place wether the PCs are there or not. But that's the way I like it, I don't want the story to be shoved down the player's throats no matter what they do. They will have to face the consequences for their actions (or inaction) later...

Sure, it's no story for experienced elder characters, but they should be playing something like Transylvanian Chronicles anyway to prove their salt's worth :-)

1 comments about Giovanni Chronicles III: The Sun Has Set (Vampire: The Masquerade).
  1. I have both played "The Sun Has Set" and told it, and it offers a wide expanse for both playing your own person, and following the plot. It also includes many ways to end the story, so you don't have to get the highly inferior Giovanni 4 to end your chronicle. What I found best however, was the NPC's,who can easily be turned into recurring villians (or allies, and the optional progression as either Sabbat elders, or those weaklings from the Camarilla. It didn't get the total 5 stars because the second half of the book could be focused on certain characters, not the whole party.

1 comments about Cities of Darkness Vol. 1: New Orleans by Night and D.C. by Night (Vampire: the Masquerade).
  1. note: typed in chat lt. :)

I find it hard to give somthing 5 stars but, this a very good book. It is not for your every day gamer tho, it is a hevy duty source book witch covers New Orleans and DC by night, it is filled with lots of history and chr info for dozens of ppl in both cities outlinning most every residing Kindred(and evean some Huntes and Mages)knowen to be there! New Orleans also comes with a canned story witch is filled with lots of source info in it's self.

not to say the book has no flaws i find if funny that none of the Kindred in New Orleans or DC have any (no merits either:)) but with that aside i find it hard to point my finger at any thing else

so all and all i would say it a must have for any WoD guru

2 comments about House of Tremere (Vampire: The Dark Ages).
  1. it could have used more info(More! More! Tell me the answers to the mysteries of the universe!) and their was an error or two. I liked it in general

  2. This is a detailed look at the current and historical set up of the chantry of the Tremere clan in the Vampire role-playing game. I went into this thinking that there would be a ton of stuff on the magic that they use... I was wrong. Most of this book is dedicated to the structure (literally and figuratively) of the chantry. If you are REALLY into the Tremere then go ahead and get this. If you dont want a guide to someones house then dont bother.

I gave it 3 stars becuase the information that they have is good, but I didnt think that the information was all that important...

2 comments about *OP Dharma Book: Bone Flowers (Kindred of the East).
  1. "The Bone Flower Dharma book included a lot of nifty detail and insight into what it means to be a Bone Flower. However, the White Wolf writers made the all too common stereotyping of shadowy, therefore assassins as was the case for the Lasombras and the Sluaghs.

  2. This book provides great insight into the Bone Flower dharma. I really appreciated how each tenant of the dharma was examined and illustrated with colorful fables. I didn't begin to understand what this dharma was really about until I read those. There's also information on how Bone Flowers often view and interact with the other dharmas, and what life is like in different parts of the Middle Kingdom for Bone Flowers. If you're looking for amazing new powers and traits, you won't find many here, but if you're curious about how to role-play this dharma, this book will help. I look forward to future books in this series.
