5 comments about Spyro: Year of the Dragon: Prima's Official Strategy Guide.
- I buy Prima books for any game for which I think I need that extra edge... er... or cheat :)
But I digress, Prima has the GREATEST hints and easy-to-follow instructions of any of the other game manuals. They don't rush through anything. Their descriptions are intricate and so easy even a child could follow them. I highly recommend! A+++++
- This book WILL tell you:
1. The location of all the eggs and gems. 2. Detailed maps of every world and level, including the super bonus level. The game itself is fairly easy to beat without the book until you get to the last world. I got that far without the book. This guide is useful to have however. However, it does NOT tell you anything about acquiring the skill points in certain levels (not all levels have them.) Which I found to be quite disappointing. If you search for "Spyro Dragon Skill Point" at Ask Jeeves one of the Results is titled "SpyroHints.com Dragon News" Click on that, then 'Spyro 3,' then 'Secrets' to get that info. It is for this reason I did not give this guide 5 stars.

- I got this guide when I was on the Super Bonus Round of Year of the Dragon. I was stuck on the Snowboarding coarse. It did not help. I'm giving it 5 stars because it should be helpful if you are around the begining or if you need help most any where. But I think its a great guide!
- Even though I've completed the game without the book, I stil bought it! It's a really good guide for people new to Spyro.

1 comments about Mafia (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
- This book is quite helpful to guide you through the missions of Mafia. However, I sometimes found myself wishing for more detail, especially on some of the maps. There are many things that happen off the in-game map and I would have liked to have seen those. This is especially true for things such as the race track that doesn't have a map at all. Sure, the map isn't in the game and they couldn't have just taken it from there, but hey, for things I can get straight out of the game, I do not have to buy a book for!
Overall, this is a pretty good book, and if I could, I'd probably give it 4 1/2 stars. But it's just not quite a 5.

1 comments about Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter Official Strategy Guide.
- I have gotten many strategy guides for many games, and this one by far is the most useless I've ever seen. You'd be far better off looking for a walkthrough online. I doubt the author has even played the game. My suspicion is that he simply cribbed the game developers notes. The "editorial review" is not accurate. The "walkthroughs" are NOT detailed. They are not walkthroughs at all in the accepted sense The screenshots are of little use. This is a difficult First Person Shooter (FPS) with no difficulty settings. You have to play it as is. As such, there are many areas where assistance would be helpful as to which way you need to be going. I usually only refer to a guide when I'm a spot where I am just stuck as to which way to go. This guide only says, you need to go from point A through point B to get to point C, but provides practically no detail as to HOW. I'm only through mission 5 currently, and 95% of my progress has been because I had to spend the time to figure out the correct path. The book only mentioned very minor points that you would figure out anyway having gotten that far. There is a lot of jumping needed, a lot of crawling through vents, and the book DOES NOT walk you through these points. DON'T BUY IT!

- A great book that leads you thru Myst without giving you the answers. It keeps the game intersting, but gets you thru those tough times when you would usually pull your hair out. Like having a good friend that knows what their doing. A must have for Myst.

5 comments about Final Fantasy VII: Ultimate Strategy Guide : Unofficial (The Final Fantasy Series).
- I need help finding a ceritan guide on final fantasy 7. its supposed to be called " completely unotherized Final Fantasy Ultimate Guide. : Its supposed to tell everything on how to get the limit breaks and help you out of places were th Official FF7 Guide by David Cassedy failed. i really want it and if you can find a new or in a fairly good comditioned one a fair price e mail me.
- Anybody out there could you please tell me how to get the "final attack" materia. the book says its a chocobo racing gift, is it really there? How do i get to make my chars in a god mode? is that possible?
- This book leaves out so many important parts it's sad. Also, the amount of errors just keep adding up. Every time I look at it I find a new typo, error, or missed information.
- This is a terrible guide. There isn't enough info on how to get all the rare materia. It doesn't mention that if you master a materia, you will get another with 0 AP. It doesn't talk about the Ancient Forest or Cactus Island. It even says "Ifrit-Ice damage to all foes". Can't the author tell the difference between Ifrit and Shiva!
- How to get alot of money go to Golden Saucer. When you get of the ropeway you will see a guy in the back. He will give you 1000gil per Gp. (Only on 2nd+3rd disc only) Don't get mad if it won't work. Just TRY IT: TRUST ME IT WILL WORK!!!!!

5 comments about Tomb Raider I and II (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
- it's the best!!??!
- Excellent walk-thru. It is difficult to keep the book opened without laying something on top of it to hold it open. I loved the book, but am now missing several pages, due to my poor treatment of it. :0)
- For those of you who have played the games I & II you may miss a few things without this guide. Some may think it is cheating but I think it just teaches you to be more observant. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys this game. I know I do.
- This is one of those publications with two books stuck together--one book goes to the half way point, flip it over and you've got another book. If you're a Lara fan, you'll like the paper doll pages in the middle. Even if you couldn't care less about the doll part of it, there are still some good graphics of the game's heroine. Both Tomb Raider and Tomb Raider II are great games, but you really need a guide if you don't want to miss anything. This is a good one. The walk-throughs are composed of color screen shots and a description of what to do at that point. They didn't leave anything out that I could see. For the Tomb Raider 1 half...if you prefer a guide that doesn't tell you every little detail, get Tomb Raider Game Secrets by Nick Roberts. I got both books and don't regret it. I used Roberts when stuck, but went to Ward when a little more help was needed. Roberts includes info about the game's background (a nice interview with the programmers), but his walk-through is not quite as detailed as Ward's. Ward provides fewer frills outside of the walk-through.
- I think this is a good book. I read through it and there is only one place where I needed help. Other than that, I would recommend this book to who ever wants to get through the game with a high score.

5 comments about Diablo (PlayStation) : Prima's Official Strategy Guide.
- There is absolutely no need for a strategy guide for Diablo! Diablo is a hack and slash game, go around, beat up monsters until you are strong enough to beat up bigger monsters, rinse and repeat.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with hack and slash games, especially not Diablo or DII, they are my favorite games, but my little brother can beat Diablo without help from a strategy guide, and he was 8 when he did that.
- This book allows you to look things up as you play. You don't have to put to memory what certain weapons are used for.
- The Prima Strategy Lie, as it's know amongst the popular Diablo community, is riddled with technical and strategic inaccuracies and tonnes of misleading information. Do NOT waste your money on this guide.
- Yes, the book is useful. It is not fantastic, beautifully written, crucial to success, or even 100% accurate. This book, with all of its typos, feels as though it has not been proofread more than once. Some of its tables have incorrect values or are poorly organized.
But it is useful. The book is accurate about 90% of the time, and the quests are well outlined - though I certainly don't believe the quests are difficult enough to require this guide. The primary use of the game is in its tables (when they are accurate), and in their explanations of the actual mechanics behind the game (such as how the game chooses which quests are included in a particular single-player game). Though all of the information in this guide can be found with a moderate amount of replay, this guide makes it available immediately. I would not use it as a strategy guide, I would use it as a quick reference to keep open while you are hunting for something in particular. To be fair, I don't believe Diablo requires a strategy guide at all. The game is fairly straight-forward, with none of the mind-boggling complexity of some real RPGs (i.e. Final Fantasy).
- This is a good stat guide but an average strategy guide. Most of the information in this guide can be found in a FREE internet guide/FAQ. Aside from some tips on the Butcher, King Leoric & The Final Battle... everything is common sence. The book also has a handfull of obvious typos & misprints. This had become a pattern with pattern with Prima. On the plus side, it is easy 2 understand, most of the stat tables are in tact & it has an interview with the game creaters to geek out on.

4 comments about The Scorpion Jar (Mechwarrior: Dark Age, No. 13).
- Do you know what's wrong with the Inner Sphere of 3134? Well, Victor Steiner-Davion, ancient Paladin of the Sphere, certainly has an idea. As he prepares to break the dire news to his fellow Paladins when Exarch of the Sphere Damien Redburn calls for the election of his own successor, Victor's life of semi-retirement gets interesting once more. Unfortunately, two nightly assassins are a bit much to take on for an old warrior well past his 100st birthday. But then, Victor Steiner-Davion never really expected to die peacefully of old age anyway ...
Fans of classic BattleTech have to give credit to author Jason Hardy for not letting Victor just pass away in his sleep. Actually, the entire story is based on the question what dark secrets Victor had discovered that someone wanted him dead. And who?
Jason Hardy is a newcomer to writing BattleTech - but you won`t notice. Known perhaps for his two excellent, action-packed novels set in the Crimson Skies-roleplaying universe, his Mechwarrior-debut couldn't have been much better - although the story doesn't allow for a lot of battlefield-action, as Paladin Jonah Levin investigates the prospect of corruption and murder at the highest levels of The Republic. But that's just fine. It's about high time to learn something about what's really going on in the The Republic, considering this is volume #13 of the Mechwarrior Dark Age series already. Of childish, petty faction leaders and their pointless bickering we have had about enough recently, thank you!
Jason Hardy's writing style and skills are fully up to the task, making The Scorpion Jar a nice change after the total failure of volume #12 Hunters of the Deep", that really brought the series deep down, so to say. 313 pages (in finer print than usual, but also with ultra-short chapters) provide sufficient quantity. Believable characters, a storyline worth following, well-written and brief dialoge scenes and enjoyable - if rare- battle sequences make this book a page-turner. The fact that Hardy's sense of humor hits home and fits like an Atlas` foot on a scout vehicle doesn't exactly hurt, either. The layout of the story reminds me on some of Michael Stackpole's books, especially the cloak-and-dagger stuff, which takes up most of the plot. But Jason Hardy's protagonists are much less talkative than Stackpole`s, which gives the story a healthy pace. Easily one of my favorites beside #8 Fortress of Lies" and a strong buy!
- I am new to the BattleTech universe, but a couple of people in my Jane Austin book group recommended this title. I was hesitant, as I am not normally into Science Fiction, but once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down!
My main problem with SciFi is that character development and thematic construction are usually sacrificed in favor of technological mumbo-jumbo, frenetic action, and buxom women. I was pleasently surprised to find that Jason Hardy is able to keep the pace fast and furious, but, with great economy of words, develop characters that I really cared about. In addition, I was intrigued and, frankly, quite moved by Hardy's underlying thesis about technology's effect on interpersonal relationships vis a vis the many and exciting battles that make up this work. Also, Hardy does an excellent job of juxtaposing the violence and action with some "laugh-out-loud" humor. Hardy must have sat at the knee of some seriously funny people growing up to have learned to write like this. I would love to meet his inspiration, be it some comedian, or possibly an older brother.
My only quibble with the book is the underuse of one of the most fascinating characters, "Brigham". I felt that, were his role expanded, he had the heroic qualities to be a major protaganist, sort of an "Atticus Finch in the 25th Century".
All in all, I thought this was a fine work by one of our up and coming young writers. I would encourage everyone to read it. I am currently learning German so I can read the rest of Hardy's works.
- I usually don't enjoy books like this, as I find them boring and slow to develop. However, The Scorpion Jar is an excellent novel that everyone will enjoy. With the fast-moving plot, boredom is nearly impossible. Often times I stayed up into the night reading it; I couldn't put it down. The only downside was bloodshot eyes in the morning. This book is a necessity for everyone's bookshelf.
- I gave up on Mechwarrior after trudging through the 1/2 dozen novels following Stackpole's "Ghost War". Two years later, I picked up where I left off with "Fortress of Lies", which I actually found to be quite good. My joy was short-lived and I died a little on the inside when I read what I believe to be the worst book in the series - "Patriot's Stand". Even though the writing got better after that atrocity, I was on the verge of giving the serie up for dead. Fortunately, "Hunter's of the Deep" caught my interest, not because it was great, but because it was different and I found it interesting, if not inconsistent with what we should expect. "The Scorpion Jar" was definitely the light at the end of the tunnel and has helped to reassert my intnerest in the Mechwarrior series. Granted, there is VERY little mech combat in this book, but it is packed full of the back-stabbing politics that made Battletech so engrossing. I would say, without reservation, that this is BY FAR the best book in the series so far and has me looking forward to what's to come (even though I see a lot of what's to come has gotten terrible reviews). Thanks, Jason Hardy, for restoring my faith in the Mechwarrior series!
