5 comments about Pirate Guidelines, The: A Booke for Those Who Desire to Keep to the Code and Live a Pirate's Life (Pirates of the Caribbean).
  1. Just as 'Cliff Claven' had all the answers on "Cheers" (or at least he thought so), Mr. Gibbs has all the answers to your questions about POTC. This book of guidelines provides quite a bit of info on POTC and also about pirates in general. A must if you're a POTC fan. Very enjoyable!

  2. This is actually a good book. It would be really good for the tween to teen ages, but for adults, it gets the job done. It is entertaining and can actually give you a semi-working set of rules for Pirate conduct. If you have all the moves for Pirates of the Caribbean, this is a very good addition to that collection.

  3. This is a book I've wanted to buy for a long time, and I was not disappointed. Not only does it shed some light onto some mysteries of the POTC universe but its also informative about ship life and piracy in general. Great read!

  4. How can anyone not rate this book 5 stars. The book is based on the premise that Mr. Gibbs wrote down the pirate code since he was always explaining it on all three POC movies. Its an easy read and a very thorough narrative of pirate history. I would recommend to anyone interested in learning more than what POC has taught us about pirates.

  5. Pirate Guidelines, The: A Booke for Those Who Desire to Keep to the Code and Live a Pirate's Life is a great pirate book! I love the POTC movies! "They really are more like guidleines... than actual rules." lol

5 comments about Marvel: Ultimate Alliance Signature Series Guide (Bradygames Signature Series).
  1. I thought that this was a really great guide to beat the game and uncover literally every secret in the game. The maps were detailed and very helpful and the character descriptions were very helpful. DESPITE all the good that it did-for some reason, my copy had the worst binding of any book I have ever bought. I didn't trash the book at all, just through normal wear, it lost its binding and is now broken up into 5 sections in between the covers. Way to go Brady for writing a great book but whoever put that together for you was a moron.

  2. This guide is required reading for any gaming fan of Marvel Ultimate Alliance who wishes to find everything but does not wish to invest significant time.

  3. The cinematics in this game are fantastic.
However the characters in the game are to small.
The camera angles are disapointing. The same way with some of the sports games. Camera angles are important in any game! Camera angles need to be on the ground level with the characters.

  4. This is, as always from Bradygames, an excellent strategy guide. From trivia questions to cheat codes, this one has them all. The only thing not included? Which X-Man to kill at the end of Mephisto's Realm (and yes it does matter.) Hint: Don't kill the one who's known to come back from death.

  5. This is an excellent game guide book with everything you would need to 100% complete the game. I am disappointed that the pages began pulling away from the binding within a few days of light use. Now, whole sections of pages are falling out as if the binding dried out. I guess I am stuck with it!!

5 comments about Microsoft Flight Simulator as a Training Aid: A Guide for Pilots, Instructors, and Virtual Aviators.
  1. The first few chapters offer more background then actual gaming tips. I would have liked to see more material on flying commercial airliners on flight simulator. This book concentrates on small planes.

  2. I have wanted to get my pilots license since I was 13. I could never get the cash.

The Flight Sim Pilot Training on Flight Sim 2004 and Flight Sim X is OK but not great.

This book is so incredibly awesome when it comes to how you can use Flight Sim to lean how to fly and the things that you shouldn't. (Let's just say the computer program is a little "optimistic")

I have talked to so many trainers who told me dozens of stories about people who got their sport or private pilot license in a much shorter time and cheaper because of this book.

And my local flight school instructor told me the more I can learn in Flight Sim the better pilot I will be because when he goes over the stuff I need to know he will be reminding me of the things I already know and filling in everything else.

He says all his pilots who have used Flight Sim saved from $1000 to $3000.

  3. For rank beginners to MS FSX, the first half of this book, while a bit lengthy could prove helpful. My major criticism is that the book makes a fairly big jump to what could have been more substantive and useful information. I bought the book with accompanying CD to help me prepare for real world IFR training in a single engine G1000 aircraft. While there are loads of example flights that let you practice departures, enroute navigation, arrivals, and approaches, there is little discussion and preparation for these examples. It would seem that the book might then be quite good for instructors who are already familiar with these concepts.
All in all, while well organized and obviously written by a devotee of FSX, it failed me in my IFR training.

  4. I bought this book at the same time as Jeff Van West's book, and
I found that even though the latter makes you go download the missions
from the Wiley website, they were still much more useful. The lessons
on the CD with this book had no more structure than say something I
might have saved while flying. If you are buying a book that is
real-aviation oriented, West's book is a must have, this I would take
    a pass on.

  5. A comprehensive book that seems to spend a lot of time justifying the use of PC based Flight Sims for pilot training. I possibly expected more on how to use the Flight Sim program than there was. nevertheless, worth reading.

5 comments about Hack the SAT: Strategies and Sneaky Shortcuts That Can Raise Your Score Hundreds of Points.
  1. This book is short, in a good way. Just the information you need to get your score up, without all the filler of the long guides. High scorers will probably be the happiest with it, since there's a lot of advice in here that you don't see elsewhere. Definitely get this with the Official Guide to the SAT, though. It's got plenty of tips but not a lot of practice.

  2. My dad bought me about 8 books, and I read this one first. Easy to understand and sneaky techniques. Surprisingly goofy, too.

  3. First of all the PSAT is not a "free practice SAT" (page 24); it costs $13.00; just check the College Board. Incomplete info about the National Merit Scholarships as well.
Critical reading tips are good, but the section on grammar and vocabulary or so simplified that they are useless. Page 187 top rule ignors either/or or neither/nor construction. And the rule at the bottom of the page is a pronoun/antecedent rule as is another strangely worded something on page 191. And these are just for starters. State the rules in language that students know from school - not some attempt to be cool but very confusing. The glossary section does not give the part of speech nor use the word in a sentence. Also not mentioned is the SAT's tendency to use secondary definitions for common words like pedestrian which means common or ordinary. Overall the book is a huge disappointment both in its errors on easily accessed information like the PSAT and its pedestrian treatment of grammar rules.

  4. I gave a copy of this book to my niece, and after hearing her feedback, I now plan to give a copy to all the teenagers I know taking the SAT. The author's skill at unpacking difficult concepts and his obvious understanding of his audience are clear throughout. Hack the SAT is funny and readable, packing the essential information into a very digestible format. I've looked through many guides, and this one has information you really can't find elsewhere (unless you can afford a high priced private tutor). Highly recommended!!!

  5. Unfortunately, my friend turned me on to this book after my parents blew a couple grand (at least) on a high priced SAT tutor. The information in this book was not only as accurate as that given by my tutor, but also was much easier to understand. The study tips really helped to build my confidence and were easy to remember. I would honestly recommend anyone thinking of paying a private tutor for help beating the system look at this book first - it's awesome!

3 comments about Pokemon Pocket Pokedex Vol.2: Prima Official Game Guide.
  1. I'll make this review short and to the point, for those of you who are already familiar with the games and seeking a Pokedex to make your life easier as you play through Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. Here's a rundown of this guide, its qualities, and its shortcomings.

    THE GOOD:

-VERY EXTENSIVE IN ITS INFORMATION. This guide doesn't just list and picture the Pokemon, you also get evolution charts, lists of the attack the Pokemon learns, stats, and even the learnable TM/HM moves. Locations of the creatures in Pearl and Diamond are also included.

-DOESN'T JUST COVER THE SINNOH POKEDEX. This guide covers each region's Pokedex and the various Pokemon from each region you'll be able to get your hands on after you beat the Elite Four, both in your own game and that you're able to trade from others. There are detailed entries here for Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh Pokemon alike.

-A LIST OF EVERY ATTACK IN THE GAME AND ITS FUNCTION/TYPE/EFFECT/ETC. This is very handy to have around as you progress through the game and have to make decisions regarding what attacks you choose to keep, and which ones you don't.

-PICTURES FOR ALL REPRESENTED SPECIES. You get art for each Pokemon featured in the guide, as well as an in-game screenshot for both the male and female forms, if applicable.

    THE BAD:

-NOT ALL OF THE POKEMON ARE INCLUDED HERE. The title says ALL of the Pokemon are featured here, and that's a lie. The three "event" legendaries of the Pearl/Diamond generation, Shayman, Darkrai, and Arceus, are inexplicably excluded from this guide! I'm appalled that these Pokemon were not included here, especially considering this guide is supposed to cater to the Pearl/Diamond generation.

-NOT ENOUGH INFORMATION ON HOW TO GET NON-NATIVE SPECIES. For the Pokemon that you'll have to import from an older game, the guide gives NO INFORMATION on how to get these in their respective games. Instead, they simply say "import at Pal Park." That's it. No additional information. If you want to learn where to get them in their respective old games, too bad. You're going to have to dig out your old guides.

-NO PICTURES PROVIDED FOR THE SHINY VARIANTS. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have pictures of these rarer versions of the creatures provided.

    THE VERDICT:

If you're a big-time Pokemon gamer and you want a detailed list of species, this is a handy guide to have, but it's plagued by its shortcomings. If you can find it on sale for a good price, go for it, but don't shell out full retail for it.

  2. This book is pretty straightforward. It is a pokedex... It has all the pokemon from the game. THe index in the front is handy. I can't find any fault except the print is microscopic...

  3. My son loves it, he can look up all of the pokemon cards he already has

5 comments about Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (Prima Official Game Guide).
  1. This guide was a HUGE help for me while playing the game. It provides a walkthrough with tips on how to defeat tough opponents, a guide to all items, and information on how to gain/lose influence with your party members, and what conversation choices will affect your Force alignment. I found this review to be a great help, although it's definitely not a necessity.

  2. great. tells you all the tip and take advantage of all the character.

  3. While this strategy guide can come in handy when you can't do the math for the computer puzzles, it fails to give an accurate description of where and what do to and see. The character guides and information is weak and often useless. If you played through the game once, the guide offers no additional use in changing your gameplay.

  4. The game guide was in excellent condition, brand new even though it was no longer in print, and the poster was in brand new condition as well. It arrived quickly and the family is now enjoying it!

  5. I wanted the one for the PC , but this one would have do just fine. very helpful

5 comments about Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King Official Strategy Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)).
  1. dragon quest 8 is a game that takes a lot of time to complete but if you know what to do it is really fun. dragon quest 8 is a extremly long game i have played 123 hours and i am still not done. in this game you are screwed if you dont get alchemy recipies, this game is extremely good if you know what to do at times you wont know what to do and it will take you a long time to figure out so it might get a little anoying. overall if you do what you are suppose to and you get really far into the game it is good.
(if you ever plan on completing this game you are going to need a whole lot of time )

  2. I am the sort of person who always buys strategy guides for the more complex games, so naturally I had to pick this one up as well. But for all its pretty pictures and fancy charts, there is very little "strategy" mentioned here. The book (quite intentionally, as it states in the preface) leaves out a lot of details about the storyline, the order of events, and the strategies for dealing with the main plot elements. The alchemy charts are nice, though it can be a bit cumbersome flipping back and forth between the sections to find all the answers. The charts are fairly helpful, though the monsters are sorted in the unique numerical order as they are listed in the in-game "battle records", rather than being sorted by type or listed alphabetically, which makes cross-referencing a real chore. Very little useful information is given about the storyline unless you are willing to flip around from section to section following the vague clues provided in the descriptions. Finally, it seems as if the manufacturer cut a few corners as well, and both my copy and the only used one I saw at the store were falling apart, the spine glue weakened to the point that individual pages were falling out.

Overall, though the game is no doubt one of the most exciting FRPG games I have played, and is capable of providing hours of fun and excitement, the BradyGames strategy guide fell fall short of the mark in trying to live up to its name. If there IS another guide on the market (I have heard rumors of a British company developing one), it may be worth holding out for that one rather than picking up the BradyGames version. Then again, there's always the Internet...

  3. While this makes a nice companion of sorts, it is in no way a comprehensive strategy guide. Most of the item locations are given as "unknown..." and it doesn't even list most of the bosses. I just wish I had known all this before I bought the book, since I could have simply downloaded a decent walkthrough on Gamefaqs and saved myself $18.

Now, for some of the positives: it does give nice maps for all areas, and shows where most of the treasure is located on the overland maps, but not in towns. It has a nice section on alchemy, although it admits that there are probably some recipes that aren't covered in the book.

As much as I hated the book, my husband loved it, hence the 3 star compromise. If you just want an atlas, by all means you'll love this. I admit to wanting a little more hand-holding from my strategy guides, so I wasn't a fan.

  4. This item came very fast and in great condition..i got this item for my brother and it is working just fine and dandy..thank you for your buisness and i hope to do some in the future.

  5. If you're knee-deep into Dragon Quest and you're thinking about buying this strategy guide, don't hesitate. This is the most well constructed guide I have ever used. There weren't any big spoilers and there wasn't a 'take you by the hand because you don't know how to play games' walkthrough section.

This is a great guide. It has all of the items, most of the chest locations, extensive bestiary, great alchemy info that you can easily cross reference with other sections, and pages on the different locations with recommended level info. The illustrations are beautiful, and the format is well presented. I find myself constantly using this guide while, at the same time, feeling like I am figuring out the game for myself. People who didn't like this guide were probably looking for a little more 'hand holding.' Nothing wrong with that, but I preferred this format.

  1. This book is a must for anyone that plays Sims2. There is so much information & hints that it is well worth it.

  2. The game guide is very helpful. We are always referring back to it for one thing or another. For me it's a must have item for the new EPs.

  3. I figured out most of it before I got the book , but is helpful for different career . I like all of mt Prima books for my Sims games. The Sims 2: FreeTime

  4. EA released a patch to fix this, but then recalled the patch with no word as to when (or if) it will be released again. Do not buy this until it has been confirmed that a new patch has been released, it is basically unplayable as is...

  5. If you play Sims then consider adding this game.Freetime is a great way to keep your Sims happy and entertained. There are some surprises that are amusing. If you have never added a pack to your Sims this one would be a great addition! It takes a bit of time to see your Sim get to the max,but it is worth it!!!
