5 comments about The Sims Superstar (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. If you like the other sims games you will love this one! I read some of the others and they say it runs slow and etc. It may be cuz you don't have enough room on your computer. It runs fast and just right on my computer. Yes it is a lot of work to get the people to become a star but it is worth it. Even if you don't want to be a star there is so much new things. Like you can swim with fish, new doors, floors, walls, even roofs and much more. Its so cool to see people singing. It's also fun just to go down there and talk to people and even see stars from today! So if your into the sims this is a much have

  2. One word discription BORING. I almost died but survived barely just to write a review. Don't give this book the time of day.

  3. This Expansion Pack to the sims, the sims deluxe, or the sims double deluxe is the best expansion pack ever. what you have to do is live your life( Like every other sims game in the world) exept in this expansion pack only, you can become a famous celebrity. you earn your way up from singing kareoke to acting in a big time soap opera. you can hire an agent and see who the ten hot celebrities are. Also there is a few new items, like the sky diving machine(Expensive but it helps with body and fun), and the aquarium(Expensive also, but is the best thing for fun). they also heve a new pool tabe and a new weight set. in this expansion you can still get a pet. you also can get married and have children too. I'de say this is the game of the year. Plus i can't wait untill the sims 2 comes out.

If you want anything e-mail me at kingtroy619@yahoo.com or go to my web page at www.freewebs.com/troys_cool_site and leave a messege on my guestbook.

  4. I do not have this book or the game but i intend to get it for Christmas. For those of you who said most of it is for the regular sims, look at the title! COVERS THE ORIGINAL SIMS AND SIMS SUPERSTAR! I think this will be a very helpful book for many people. Also, yes it is challenging to get to be a star, I tried on my friend's computer, but if you were going to try to be a star in real life, it would be hard too! Just find out what your Sims like and make them do that a lot. And check their bars-bladder, hunger, energy, etc. to find out what theu need.

  5. I found the second half of this book very useful in trying to learn and navigate the Superstar world. It had well-written instructions, tips, and general information on how to progress from a nobody to a superstar. This certainly isn't an easy career path, but if the game was easy, why would we play?

The first half had some good information as well. This information is geared towards a beginner, which may be too basic for some. But my main complaint with this section, is that it hasn't been updated! Relationships are much harder (yet in a way easier) in these newer Sims games. It has been changed from a single relationship bar, to a double system. The top bar, for daily interactions, and an average bar, for a 'lifetime' score. I was wanting a more in-depth analysis of this new rating system, but this book doesn't even mention the change. It seems that the first part was written with the original Sims game, and has simply been tacked onto each and every variation of the Strategy Guide. Which is lazy writing, in my opinion.

My other quibble, is that pages upon pages have been taken up showing (in black and white no less) each and every object you can buy. I really don't see the point to this, but others may find it useful.

5 comments about The Art of Final Fantasy IX.
  1. When I bought this book, I expected mostly black and white photos and small screenshots from the game, but when I opened it up I was happily suprised with a book full of large, colorful artwork. Being a fan of the game series itself, this book especially appealed to me, as it probably would to many other FF players. But even those who do not play the game will find them selves impressed with the tons of fantastic artwork that fills its pages. I definitely recommened this book if you are a fan of the game or just love great art!

  2. I love Final Fantasy!! I have been a die hard fan since part one was released in 1990. There are several books out that show the visual effects from the Final Fantasy series, but this one is by far the best. It is strait forward, art, from the original designer of FF characters, Yoshitaka Amano. Page for page you will see the steps that he followed making this characters shine.

The main reason that I took one star away was because most of the art in this book is finished up designs from Amano. I am a very big fan of his work, ex. Vampire Hunter D, FF1-6,and 9 adn several other Japaneese work. I enjoy his early sketches better, they are much more fantasy like. But that does not mean that this collection is not beautiful as printed.

This is a beautiful editon to any Final Fantasy collecton or just plain art or drawings collection. Dont pass this up.

  3. It's got all the characters, all the settings, all the fun. FF9 was my favorited in the series so I just had to get this homage to it. It's just fun to look at the sketches and rough-drafts and such. The town designs are really amazing.

If you're a fan of the FF series, anime, or just incredible art, I suggest you check this out.

  4. I got this book through another online retailer for half the price these U&N people are selling for. You just need to shop around.

I'm an artist, and I have a fondness for the Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy IX was a challenge for me and after beating it, my claim is that it's the best in the series so far. After watching the last cutscene, I knew I had to have this book. I was very pleased when it arrived and have found it useful even today. FF9 is one of the most franchised game of the FF's(second to 7); I wouldn't waste that if you're a fan of it.

  5. First of all, I will say the few things I wish were included on this art book.

    - More pictures of Kuja's design.
    - Pictures of Queen Brahne in the characters section.
    - A picture of Zidane on trance form.
    - More data to identify characters, name when possible, place where they are found when not (I am not sure if Puck appears in this book or not, and I have to check the in game graphics to know who other characters are).

That's it. Those are the points that make this book not reach the absolute perfection for me.

That said, I still love what is in the book! There are designs for many characters, even some who are not very important in the story, and there are different designs for the non-playable characters when they have variations in their clothes or hair.

The equipment section and the airship section have lots of details. Those are great for fan-artists!

The section with pictures from the in-game animations has a poster-like selection that will make you remember all those moments from the story.

I'm afraid that everything I say now will sound very fan-boyish, since Final Fantasy IX is my favorite of them all (beating Final Fantasy V, something I didn't thought was possible), so I hope what I have already said helps you somewhat in your decision to buy this book.

5 comments about Splinter Cell: Double Agent (Prima Official Game Guide).
  1. Just like the last Splinter Cell Game Guide, this book does good in providing you a walk-through to get through the game, but it lacks depth of knowledge that those who have played SC DA before would need to improve their game. There are many ways to get to places and handle situations that the book doesn't cover. The biggest disappointments were that it did not cover the X-Box version, which is much different than the X-Box 360 version and it didn't have any maps of the Versus mode of play. Also if you are using an X-Box 360 or PC, you have to refer back to the PS2 section for details and explanations - very inconvenient. For a beginner who gets stuck, it is worth while to help you get through the game. For anyone else, the few tidbits you get from the book isn't worth it.

  2. If you want a guide that covers it all, then this is it. You'll find a great walk through and lots of intel for your trip into this Double agents adventures. I dont think you'll find anything else out there that comes close to this Guides helpful hints and strategies.

  3. A nice looking guide, covers Gamecube and PS2 versions on the first half of the book and the X360 and PC on the other. Very complete guide but is a shame when you are looking on page 256 for a mission and says "for more info on this item go to page 6" so you have to go all over back to check than item and then come back to the last pages again (this is if you're looking at the X360 and pc pages). Some 10 pages more with all the gadgets and items on the beginning of the x360 and pc part wouldn't hurt :)

For the rest very good guide, nice maps, quality pictures, quality paper and very well explained, should have concentrate more on alternative routes but well, for people like me that get stuck in games like that it was enough help to get pass some missions.

The only bad thing is the "Frag doll comments" on multiplayer games, I find most of them pretty lame as they really say nothing important about strategies for the game.

    Must have for SC fans.

  4. It's a great guide unless you're the original XBox game. Other than that, I've gone through the PS2 version rather well. Oh well....can't win all the time. :)

  5. This is a nice guide, it may not be as detailed as the other Splinter Cell guides, but it is still very nice.

I had played this game without the guide a couple times. But when I really like a game, I like having the guide to look at and ponder other ways of playing the game. Also like having guides to refer to when I want to look up some aspect of the game.

If you like the game, it might be worth it to add this guide to your collection.

  1. Why would you need a guide for Luigi's Mansion. It's not that hard of a game. Trust me. It is a great game. but u don't need to waste 15$ on a guide? if you really need it u can get it for free on the internet. Go to videogames.com. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of a big ZERO is because of the MAPS AND THE PICS you can hang in your room if you are a Luigi Freak!!!

  2. I Can't believe this! Prima has always been very helpful, but I practically AM a strategy guide for this game. But, hey, if you REALLY DESPERATELY need help, go ahead. I put 5 stars because i mean NEGATIVE 5 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a trick!!!!!

  1. Can ne1 post a review for this because i really wanna get it but it might be Cr@p like alot of other guides. Plz?

  2. The guide leaves an entire class of item out, not even mentioning thier existance, it also gets details of the actual levels wrong (even taking into acount the random generation nature of the levels) giving flat-out wrong information.

  3. Buy this book only as a last resort and try to get it for as low of a price as you can. I would recommend Gamespot and Gamefaq. Both websites have walkthroughs which Gamefaq's are free while Gamespot requires you to create an account. Since most of the quests you are on are randomly generated the walkthrough is of very little help because there are no maps. Most advice on fighting the bosses can be summed up as use "hit and run" well duh! This book does offer detailed tables breaking down the statistics of the various skills, armor and weapons. So if you are one of those types that like to do a lot of research for your games you might find this book useful. But this is not worth 25 dollars. Another advantage to gamefaq is they will tell you the cheat codes. This book does not. I find it hard to believe the authors are not aware of what they are so I think he or she left them out intentionally. I suspect most authors of strategy guides are relying too much on the developers of games for information. These same developers seem overly concerned about protecting the "purity" of their games and thus forbid strategy guide writers from telling all.

5 comments about The Sims Box Set 1 thru 5 (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. Ok, the bad stuff first - which has been mentioned a lot here. The books are shrunk down to a much smaller size than your average strategy guide, so the pictures and illustrations are really difficult to see. Second, the first half of each book is the same in all five - just basic info about the Sims. So there is a lot of wasted space and material you have to skip over to get the new information on whatever expansion pack the book is for.

The books small size makes them easier to store though, they can even sit on a bookshelf in front of all the other strategy guide since they are so much smaller. They also come in a sleeve so that they all stay together nicely. While most of the information is repeated in each book, there is a good amount of new information that is really useful - even for long-time Sims players. Every time I open up the books I learn something new, and I've been playing the Sims for several years now.

Overall, for the price I can't complain too much. The good stuff is better than the bad, by far. Definitely would recommend to any Sims addict looking to learn some new tips and tricks.

  2. the info give is ok. Nothing to reveling, but the examples given in picture are impossible to read. they could have made a single book instead of 5 if they had just made the book larger and pictures more readable.

Only buy this book if you can not figure out how the game works. otherwise save your money

  3. Really unnecessary. The game is the easiest to play in the world. There is no end to the game hence no need for strategy.

  4. Don't buy this.

There is no reason you need to buy these books.
Any information you need is online and cost you nothing.

On all of the books, the 1st half is devoted to The Sims (the original game itself that you need in order to add any of the expansion packages).

If you need any information on game play with any of the expansions then go online.
The Official Sims Website is one place to start.
That is not to mention all of the other Fan webistes that you can go to. (Devoted to The Sims and there are a lot)

They are for the most part free and you don't have the books taking up room.

  5. First, a note: I am not actually under 13--I'm 15, actually--but I was too lazy to create my own bn.com account or wait for my mom to come home so I could use hers. But anyway.
In general, the Prima strategy guides are excellent--they are thorough, humorous, and well-written, with aesthetically appealing layouts and screenshots. So having five half-sized strategy guides for the approximate price of one sounds like the perfect deal, right?
    You'd think that...
While these guides are excellent, I think that Prima made a mistake in making these books so small. Although I am fortunate enough to have, for the moment, very good eyesight (from years of reading under the covers, I suppose), I still found these books very hard to read. I can only imagine the difficulty for someone who already has a vision problem.
In short, these discounted guidebooks are worth the price only if your eyesight is excellent. In general, I'd recommend buying the normal-sized guides. While more expensive, they are at least legible.

5 comments about Company of Heroes Official Strategy Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)).
  1. This strategy actually make some valid points for the hardest rts I have EVER played and I've played alot grat game and book

  2. Quite a bit of useful information, especially if you are new to strategy games. The maps are good and help to give a good overview of the of the single player campaign. I withheld the 5th star due to a lack of more detailed strategies for general game play in skirmish and multi player modes.

  3. This is probably the worst strategy guide I have ever seen. It is nothing more than the game manual. It will help you get through the missions, but there is nothing in here on how the units interact, optimal costs, or any kind of strategy info you can use.

If you are looking for info on multi-player strategies, look elsewhere. There is MUCH better information can be found online for free.

    VERY disappointing.

  4. I bought this game and then had to buy a new computer and video card to run it. It was worth it. I've never seen a war game with the kind of accuracy to detail that CoH shows. Mostly you're lucky if you can tell the different units of similar type apart. Here, the Tiger tanks look different from the Panthers which look different from the Shermans and each looks is so detailed that you would never mistake one for the other. The game play is Real Time Simulation with an emphasis on capturing and holding strategic points on the map. I'm not sure that this encourages good military strategy because it is based on holding ground rather than destroying the enemy, but from a game perspective, it allows the sort of resources gathering and expenditure as in games like Age of Empire and adds an extra element to building and concentrating forces. It's gotten so bad that when my friends call the first thing they ask is whether I'm killing Germans.

  5. Recently, while waiting to see my optomologist, I noticed that he had a diploma from Parkland Hospital, so I asked if that had been the same one where President Kennedy had died. He told me that one of the patients he had there was working in the Emergency Room at the time this event took place. He had talked with an actual eyewitness to this tragedy and its aftermath.

About five years ago, I had another specialist at a regional hospital, a gastroenterologist. He, too, had interned at this famous hospital in Dallas. Thus, I had decided he was from Texas. A sensitive, shy personality but extremely competent in his field, I had much admiration for his skill. He had performed some minor surgery and tests on me which kept me from needing radical procedures later on. At one of these procedures, however, I had waited past my endurance(the whole time attached to an IV); thus, I asked a nurse to unhook me as I was ready to go home.

When she toldthe doctor that I was wanting to leave, I was immediately wheeled back to the operating room. He said, "So you were going to skip out on me," and I replied, "Doctor, I was sure you had gotten on your horse and ridden off into the sunset." He was surprised and amused by this vision and asked, "Now, why would I do that?" I emphatically stated, "Well, you're from Texas and that's what cowboys do, isn't it?" He said (before he promptly put me to sleep so he could perform his task), "We have horses in Tennessee, too." Later, I learned from one of his nursing assistants there at the hospital that he's a native Tennessean and proud of it. The problem was he hadn't let me tell him that cowboys had always been my heroes. From that day on, this doctor who looked nothing like a cowboy, was one of my heroes.

Lincoln once said, "The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time."
