5 comments about Mechwarior: Dark Age #10: Flight of the Falcon(A BattleTech Novel) (Mechwarrior).
  1. I am an emerging science fiction author. I am also an old fan of the Mechwarrior RPG. I wanted an example of descriptive scifi action to learn from. I made a BAD choice with this book. I forced myself through the first 25 pages and threw this book across the room. Victor Milan's usage of the English language is incomprehensible. It takes him 25 pages to describe three minutes of action - and I use the word "action" loosely. He get's sidetracked in irrelevant topics of internal politics and sordid details of sex between siblings every other paragraph. Victor! Show us the big picture! What's going on?! I don't care about the minutia! You gotta write lean an mean when trying to write action.

  2. The previous Mechwarrior: DarkAge books were, um, weak. But Flight of the Falcon breathes some new life into the series. Victor Milan is one of the best Battletech writers.

In this book, the Clans come to life again. The Clans you love to hate: vicious, skilled, myopic, relentless. Not the cariatures of the Clans that have inhabited the last several years of BT books.

I will say this though - I am getting really tired of the Tara Campbell character. That is no reflection on Milan though. He works with the material he is given.

  3. This was the novel that killed MW:DA for me. Having read all the Battletech novels, I decided to give the Dark Age novels the benefit of the doubt. They were okay. I felt that I was getting my money's worth. There were minor inconsistencies where the author obviously didn't know their subject matter, but hey, I was willing to overlook it and follow the series.

That's when I bought this book. From sex and nudity to the wholesale slaughter of civillians in order to pacify worlds, this book was offensive on so many levels. The old Battletech books--while dealing with the occasional mature theme--were so skillfully written that these themes were either glossed over or written so that they were appropriate for someone around the age or 9 or 10. I wouldn't let any child read this book (and reviews here on Amazon are stating that the content is getting much worse with the later novels).

This content is NOT what I expect from a game that has been traditionally family-friendly since 1984. I got about halfway through the book before putting it down and swearing off the rest of the series.

The 'talking chicken' book (Far Country) was better than this nauseating piece of drek. Don't waste your money.

  4. I am a 15 year old kid and a fan of mechwarrior. I had not really read any of the books before but I gave it a try. The word choice was difficult for me because of the foreign words and that my vocabulary is not up to par. As for the book, unless you are a fan of the RPG, computergames, or the wizkids mechwarrior game you will not really have any interest in this book. It is packed with your favorite clans or at least mine the Jade falcon. The book jumps around a lot but the book will tell u place you're jumping to and the date for convenience. Over this entire book will help you better understand the properties of these game and background to your clans.

  5. I don't know why the other people did not like the book, but i did i like it alot but that's my opinion.

5 comments about Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Official Strategy Guide (Bradygames Official Stratgy Guides).
  1. I sold my strategy guide for Snake Eater thinking that this guide will cover the full game, online mode and original Metal Gear games. What a let down. Lets start with the coverage of Snake Eater: The unlockables and secrets sections has been shrunk down to half a page. There is no Kerotan (frog) map as there was in the original guide. The back of the guide even says that it has it but it doesn't. Now for the online mode: This was done well and seems to be the focus of the guide. Now for my biggest complaint. There is no coverage of the orginal Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2! They have the nerve to tell you to register the guide at their website to get coverage. I registered it and there was nothing listed! Absolutely the most half-a$$ed guide I have ever seen. I can not recommend this guide to anyone. I actually had to re-buy the original guide. This is even a terrible add-on. If you have the original guide then you have no need for this book. If you don't have the original guide, go buy the original guide. This book is useless!

  2. This guide is complete crap. Don't waste your money on this guide unless you want online maps. BUY THE ORIGINAL SNAKE EATER GUIDE. This guide does not cover details on the camo, face paints, weapons, CQC (close quarters combat), or show the locations of the kerotans.

  3. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The original Strategy Guide had everything you would ever want or need. This seems to be a continuation guide. It gives you the secrets that weren't previously in the official guide... but the secrets that are in the official guide aren't included here. The walkthrough is pretty much the same, just a bit more compressed. The maps, and info presented in the main walkthrough is virtually the same.

There are several things that I wish would've been included in this guide. Truly, this guide should've been an expansion of the original one. For one, they took out the Kerotan locations (though they actually do mention the reward for finding them all). The original guide was 224 pages, and this one is 160. In this case, the numbers don't lie. You won't get nearly as much information from this guide as you would the original. No indepth look on camos or face paint. This includes the new camos you can find in this game.

They have maps for online mode and all, but I find that this is the only plus the guide has really got. New secrets get a mention, but not much of an explanation.

Worst of all? No walkthrough for the original Metal Gear or for Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. This is unforgiveable. Without a walkthrough for these two games, the guide only further becomes useless. If you want a walkthrough for Snake Eater, you might as well get the original guide. All the extra content isn't explore enough in this guide. Maps for online mode don't make a fantastic guide. A basic walkthrough also doesn't make a fantastic guide. We're interested in the new content as well as the old. And while it does a fairly good job in the original walkthrough (it's basically the same, word for word), it's compressed to fit in the pages. Also, there's no help about CQC. If you're someone who never played Snake Eater and so you invested in Subsistence, this guide isn't going to help you adjust to CQC.

So in short, you might as well get the original guide. It doesn't have the coverage of Online mode or most of the new extras, but you're really not getting that by investing in this guide either.

  4. Thier were too many changes & additions to this game. The controls were very sketchy as was the terrain. The first two games were much better & had far more detailed level.

  5. The guide was missing some stuff that it said it had. It was supposed to have maps of where to find the kerotans, but didn't. It didn't even talk about most of the hidden stuff in detail. I was disappointed.

5 comments about Hitman: Contracts (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. This guide is as good as the last 2 strategy guides for this franchise game. Many will remember that they too can be considered, if you are unfamiliar with these games, difficult to follow. You may actually have to "think outside the box" when using it. But, not anymore then the other HITMAN guide books. There are so many ways to do a HIT that all the variables and methods could never fit in book form. There's a guide DVD out now if you want to see them. We need to remember that guides give one example on how to go about finishing a level or get us through a rough patch when stuck. When you are playing a game as open-ended as this one. The guide is just a foundation. What you build on it is all up to you.

  2. This book has came in helpful while playing this game.

  3. Hi this is the first time I ever brought an item off Amazon.Com.
It came new just like I order it I will be buying more item from
    Amazon.Com in the future!

  4. Hello! I actually did not purchase this for myself, but as a gift for my 24-year-old brother. When I asked him how he liked it and if he was getting what he had hoped from it his response was an emphatic, "yes"! He said that the game seemed almost useless without it because you were limited as to how far you could go in the game and how much you can do in the game.

My brother is pretty honest with his opinions so, from the sounds of it, this would be a sure hit for anyone who enjoys exploring the videogame world!

    I hope this has helped!

  5. I bought this book and do not own the game yet. I bought the wrong book by mistake,(my mistake) and really wanted the Hitman 2 book, and have since ordered the correct book. Now I will buy the Hitman Contracts game to go with this book. The book arrived in a timely manor as described, and I am happy with it. Thank you allbooks4u.

5 comments about WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2007 Signature Series Guide (Bradygames Signature) (Bradygames Signature).
  1. This guide is must have if you own SmackDown vs Raw. It has all of the basics, how to create a superstar, and creating titles and PPV's, step by step. It has every superstar in the game featured (except Sable),and their biographies, and info, and their move lists with finishers. The guide explains the Season Mode, the locker room set-up,the differnet modes. Goes through the different Challenged in the Challenge Mode. And includes a chapter on the ShopZone and the items and what they're for. Important articles of every single type of match, the menus EVERYTHING you should know about the game. You just gotta buy this if you want to be successful in playing SmackDown vs Raw!

  2. It was great! Perfect condistion but I did not see the Bradygames Signature on it that was suppose to be on it... That was my only concern; otherwise, it was perfect!

  3. This book serves the purpose of listing all available moves for the preset roster and shows all available storylines in the game. That's about it. No instruction on Create a Wrestler, or for that matter, create anything. In fact, the previous two items I listed (moves and storylines) are pretty much the only content in this book. I don't know; maybe I'm spoiled by Prima and the good job they do writing for PC games. They just could have included a LOT more content, that's all. You could have found any old FAQ in 30 seconds of search-engine poking.

  4. My son loves anything WWE. Good source for information on how to plan game. He doesnt leave home without it.

  5. not bad, kinda hard to memorize the moves..but once you play it alot prob be no prob. at first i was confused on why my wrestler was not reacting..i guess you need to know the basic buttons before you play so give that pamphlet a look!

  1. it helped me a lot with the game...so if you need help with MMIX then it's a good buy!

  2. This Strategy Guide is great because:

    1) It gives information how to create the best party.

    2) What skills to give to your characters.

    3) A chapter about the monsters in the game including lists of
    the monsters in the game.

    4) A chapter about the items in the game including lists of the
    items in the game.

    5) Two chapters which reveal all the secrets of the game (So
,if you want to play a fair game, this guide is not for you!).

I give this guide 5 stars because it helped me to play the game.

3 comments about Postmortems from Game Developer: Insights from the Developers of Unreal Tournament, Black and White, Age of Empires, and Other Top-Selling Games.
  1. Love this book. Each postmortem is full of advice about designing, producing, and shipping a video game - advice from the developers themselves - allowing YOU to learn from THEIR mistakes. Techincal gaffes, hiring snafus, political missteps, project management mistakes; anything that can go wrong in a software project HAS gone wrong in one of these stories.

When you get to the end of this book, you'll feel like a battle-hardened veteran that can take anything a project throws at you; and most of minefields mapped out are surpisingly appicable to ALL software development, not just video games.

Beware: this book may have you rummaging through discount bins to find the games mentioned- good or bad, you feel affection for a game once you've shared the trials and tribs of the creators.

  2. I've read several game design books, including Mike McShaffry's Game Coding Complete. While reading architecture and design is good and many of the books reflect the author's experience on several projects, Game Developer Postmortems provides the actual triumphs and stumbling blocks each game project went through.

A quick read and the best way to get insight into these projects without actually having worked on the teams, it's a book I'd recommend to anyone looking to understand game design projects.

  3. Both my partner and I treasure the wealth of information available between the covers of this book. We are making the difficult shift from TV production to game production and it is fascinating to see where other teams and their leaders got things wrong and right. With great examples from a wide variety of games (Some that we personally love playing) there is a well rounded selection.

I hate to use the term "must have" but... this book is a must have for anybody in or wanting to be in the game industry.

5 comments about Digimon World 2 (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. I found the book to be extremely helpful with digivolving and the DNA reference page was a godsend. The only problems I found with the book were the typos and occasional mistakes concerning what digimon you'd find in the domains. You should definately get this book; just watch out for the mistakes therein. Be on the look-out for Flym and cross-type digivolution (which isn't clearly stated in the book ie. Zudomon to Preciomon)

  2. This is an extrememly helpful guide. The information on Digivolution and DNA Digivolution are well worth the cost. A must have if you like the game.

  3. ... Before I liked Pokemon I thought Digimon would be better but after seeing 2 Digimon episodes I decided it was weird and gross(The first one I saw showed blood). Then when i gave Pokemon a chance I decided I liked it better because the plot had more to it,it didn't show blood(except when meowth scratchs Jessie and James but nothing major),and the characters were better(including the animals) although that weren't as many people as in Digimon. Also,Digimon is sorta like a copy of Pokemon since they are basicly the same except that Pokemon is better. Like they say:"There's nothing like the original".

  4. This guide has everything you need. Digivolvation charts, domain tips for bosses, lists to show the digimon you can catch in each domain. This is the perfect guide for a great game.

  5. This guide is a life-saver, the DNA digi-volution guide was the key to unlocking the fun of the game. Also why is a pokemon fan even writing a reveiw just to make digimon fans angry? I used to think digimon was a little kids show, and then I watched one of the episodes with my son and I loved it! So please poke fans, don't write a "Digimon sucks" review okay!
