5 comments about Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides).
  1. To all who is considering to buy this game guide, I highly recommend that you purchase this guide, its totally worth the 19.00 and tax. If you are kind of confused how to play lego star wars the complete saga, this is the very thing you need. I have completed every level and now working on getting more gold blocks from finding all the minikits, and i am also collecting the red bricks needed to unlock special cool features, like fast build, and super slap, just to name a few. Without this guide, I would not have semi-completed this game, I would have pulled my hair out just to figure what to do. I know later on, you will thank me for suggesting this Amazon product to you. It surely put a smile on my face.

  2. I bought this guide because it was the only one available and silly me I thought it would include information for the Nintendo DS version. It doesn't. Just wanted to give anyone else a heads up before they make the mistake of wasting their money like I did. I bought it because I can't find some of the bricks and cannisters and it is not helpful at all.

  3. In my recent trip to Mcallen, I've see it in a Toy'R'Us (more expensive than Amazon), but for a strange reason I did not bought. Now I'm seeing that is very useful, because the game (that is very easy) did not explain a lot of things, and maps are the most unvaluable help in this guide, because you have only 10 minutes to search blue canisters. Every thing is showed with a lot of precision ande make more dinamic the game.

  4. Somebody should alert new buyers that this guide is useless for Nintendo DS users (as I am).

  5. Really Helps : ) and good picture to help you find all of the "goodies" too.

5 comments about SimCity 4 (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. This is highly technical, but not very helpful. It doesn't give you any ideas on how to build a better city. Read it if you've never played any SimCity games before, but otherwise, try out the tutorials first before you spend money on this book.

  2. This manual is a very weak and nearly completely useless manual for newbies trying to tackle the scope of this complex game. The game itself is challenging enough but this manual only scratches the surface of what needs to be done in order to run a successful city. A dissapointment. The Simcity 4 "Rush Hour" expansion pack though corrects many of the mistakes of this older manual.

  3. Everyone in our family LOVES Sim City 4. It is addictive. But while the game interface may be fairly intuitive, the strategies and tips that help you build really big cities can be elusive. This guide gives you all the details you need and gives many useful tips for taking your simulation to a higher level. The book is well organized into chapters on getting started, modes of play, zoning, finance, utilities, transportation, education, rewards etc, and finishes with multiple city play, business deals, disasters, landmarks and even cheats; however, this book does not offer help with the Rush Hour expansion that may be included with your game, so there is no help on driving the many vehicles and their accompanying missions. I also found that some of the things I especially wanted to learn about, like monorails, were not included, so there must have been subsequent changes to the software. Stil this book has been very helpful. There are lots of pictures, though they are a bit fuzzy.

I would recommend this book to someone who wants a handy list of the many details needed to step up the gameplay.

  4. i got this and its helped me out tons and now iunderstand the game alot more!

  5. If you are serious about learning to play Sim City 4 Deluxe, this is your key. Great insight to the game's inner workings and idiosyncrisies. It allows you to cross reference and find the answer to your questions as the arise without having to read it cover to cover before starting the game.

5 comments about Sims 2 Castaway: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Prima Official Game Guides).
  1. There's a lot of information in this book. I purchased it because I was stuck and unable to find additional areas, despite being sure I knew where they were located--I could "see" the area, but was unable to enter it. I am playing PSP, so the guide was not a perfect fit, but the only information I was able to find online in November 2007 pertained to the Nintendo DS, which is a different game. The downside to this book is that it not organized in what I would consider a logical manner, and I have had a tough time finding the tip I need when I need it. Overall, it has helped me progress a bit further, though.

  2. I was very happy with everything about the product, the delivery, the product itself everything.

  3. While the book was a very good read, it was useless to me as the web site never stated what platform the guide was for. I brought it for my DS game, and the guide only covered the PS2 and Wii versions. There is a VERY small spot actually on the picture of the guide itself (you have to enlarge the photo to see it clearly. The web page needs to clearly state what system the book is for. While it read very well, and IF I HAD the game, I'm sure it would be a great help, I gave the book to a friend. It was useless to me.

  4. If you like the TV show, Lost, you will probably like this game. It is like the show, but you get to control what is happening.
We were totalling addicted to it. We played everyday until we accomplished all the goals. Now, we don't play anymore. We had a great time all playing. All of our family members had fun playing the characters and making things.

  5. This guide is pretty useful for this game. It definately helps out. I've found every question I had answered by finding it in the book.

5 comments about Madden NFL 08: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Prima Official Game Guides) (Prima Official Game Guides).
  1. There is some good information here on offenses and defenses in the game and some generic information on all the NFL teams. But there is no specific information on plays to call for each team.

    Other issues:

    - At times the guide references the XBOX and PS2 controls. Other times the PS3 is mentioned. Why not list controls for all consoles or at the least be consistent?

    - Several typos / misspellings. Has the publisher ever heard of spellcheck?

    - Several inaccuracies. Ex: the Patriots no longer play on grass, they are on field turf.

QA was lacking on this book.

  2. Got to agree with the other reviewer about this book. The information contained in the book is decent, but the pictures and explanations of the controls are terrible. It looks like they used xbox or ps2 for the pictures and for almost all the controls. Why they did that I don't understand, as it would seem that xbox 360 and ps3 are the up and coming systems. I would skip this if you have xbox360 or ps3, as it is not much help.

  3. I just wanted to echo the reviews so far, this is focused on PS2 and XBOX, with only 16 pages about PS3 and XBOX 360, I was really disappointed.

  4. Very disappointing, and not what we've come to expect from Prima. I expected to get some insider tips on the 'features' not discussed in the flimsy manual. Things like why one running back has the "Elusive skill" and a yellow bar at 92, while another has a partially full "white bar" at 93. Or what do the 'points' really mean on the mini-game 'bench press'. I mean how many reps is required to get 9,000 or 15,000 points? How about deciphering the obscure scouting report comments such as "Is this guy really a DT"? Is that a complement or a smack down?
Instead you get a player-by-player breakdown on every team in all individual categories - useful, but is not all I was expecting. The book is hefty, but that's expected with the team-by-team/player-by-player breakdown.
The book also does not do an even adequate job of sorting through the various platforms. No where does it tell you that the "adjust pass rush protection" feature is not included on the Xbox 360 version (even though the Prima Guide lists it). After reading this in the Prima guide, I had though that little gem was for all platforms, and went back to the game manual to try to find it. Nope, not there. It does vaguely discuss NexGen platforms, but is still not up to par from what we normally expect.
If you want a team-by-team/player-by-player cheat sheet, then go ahead and buy, otherwise pass on this one, and buy another game or accessory.

  5. I bought a 360 and immediately bought Madden 08. I've played Madden since 92 and they just get better and better.

    The manual is terrible.

The information on the screen is too small to read sometimes to understand what to press or such.

    The interface is crap.

The announcer commentary during the game is absolutely HORRIBLE. You have great sound from the crowd, players, FX, and so forth, and the announcer is a cruddy radio announcer calling play by play through what sounds like a one speaker AM radio. Where the heck is Madden's colorful commentary? I usually ended up turning it off at times in the past, but who doesn't repeat the oft-heard Madden-saying to his buddy he just sacked "he put enough mustard on that to cover a foot long hotdog!"?

I've not played the mini-camp games yet. I don't even know if they are offered on the game anymore. I hope so. If they aren't I'm just going to go sell this game back to a store and get another football game.

Good gameplay, but missing those little things that made Madden so endearing over the years. All this game has is name recognition as THE game that pretty much every guy has and plays. But if EA keeps going this, then the game will be passed by Sega or some other developer.

I bartend and some EA designers sat at my bar one day. For all you guys out there, I chastised the hell out of them for the terrible looking cheerleaders on a Madden a couple of years ago. Wait till I see them again this time... I'm gonna unload on them.

  1. Great book it tell you where to go in the game. It helps in the game to find health and chest. and hidden art. The only thing it need is more pictures. I would recomand it If you get lost in the game.

  2. Good guide, it has everything necessary, however, it's a little bit short for my taste

  3. THIS GAME GUIDE WAS NICE. ALSO THE GAME PLAY WITHOUT IT, IT'S HARDLY WALKTHROUGH THE GAME. ALSO THE MAP DESIGN WAS GOOD. I UNDERSTAND WELL.
IT'S NICE DESCRIPTION. IT'S GOOD GAME GUIDE.

  4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is not the toughest game in the series, but it is still plenty challenging, and this book gives you all the information you need to get through the game. I am not one who likes to butt his head against the same wall for hours on end, so having so many hints and the hiding places of the quest items is a very good thing for me. The game itself is tough enough, help with finding scarabs, and health power-ups is welcome indeed.

  1. Unfortunately, this guide could have been so much more. Instead it is mostly table after table of items without much useful information. It's a shame because this game has huge potential despite its bugs and this guide could have gone a long way towards helping with its potential.

The book is sadly lacking in Strategy tips and even dips so low as to repeat the same tips in multiple places in the book. The maps are slightly helpful and are what makes me rate it two stars.

Even the class sections dealing with the skill trees are simply regurgitating what you can read in the game itself. There is no deeper explanation or suggestions. It is sadly lacking in details.

Normally, I love Prima's strategy guides but this one falls flat.

  2. Much of what I learned about the game was from trial and error. The book does not address how to create mods, item crafting, or salvage. It doesn't inform you that some areas are closed off until a quest is obtained from a particular npc for a more distant area.

  3. I'm in my 60's and enjoyed this game very much, it has replayability which makes it usable for a long time.

  4. I bought this book to help understand some elements of the game a lot more, and its actually a pretty awesome book. The fold out poster looks pretty cool, which is a common banner Flagship Studios use in the tube stations. The other side with the map is awesome, with full descriptions of the complete world map.

The biggest confusion without much detail is the skills, atrributes, etc.. This game describes each skill for each faction/class very detailed. And there are actual dev tips so you can maximum your experience in the game. I'd recommend to any player of the game.

  5. I know that people buy these books for many reasons, but if you are looking for help with the quests, save your money. I have had a number of Prima books over the years, some good some better, almost all were helpful. So I didn't take the time to thumb through this before I bought it. Too bad for me. The section on the quests is a total waste of paper and certainly a waste of my money. Whoever wrote this book must have not played the game or the beta and worked strictly from developer's notes.

  1. I am an (allmost 60) year old lady , I have no man, BUT I've got the X-box.....playstation 2 and 3,... nintendo 64..., gamcube and the WII of course, I like action adventure en button-bashing in my games, a few years ago I played with my sons ( the parts I could't-do.... not quick enough)but they arn't living at home anymore (they are 30) so I have to try by myself......sigh... but with this book as clear as it is and beautifull pictures,!!! I am sure I can get a looooong way trough..

  3. I haven't played Assassin's Creed, nor do I have a platform that supports it - I just wanted to mention that up front. I'm a fan and collector of conceptual art books, and after having seen the trailers and commercials for this game, I decided to go ahead and get this book. It's a nice book, certainly, chock-full of illustrations that helped in the conceptualization of the game, everything from the minutiae of the main character's costume, to various images of knights, peasants, etc. It's nicely produced, printed of good paper, and has a sturdy hardcover binding. I suppose why this book gets 3 stars is because there's nothing here that is especially eye-popping or earth-shattering here: while the art is well done, it's fairly ordinary and I wish there were more interesting designs, etc. Additionally, the commentary text seems to have been hurriedly edited, as I noted some typos, etc. I'd recommend this book for conceptual art collectors and, probably, diehard fans of the game.

  4. Assassin's Creed limited Edition Artwork has a lot of production design into the riveting game by Ubisoft. You will be drawn into the production as these programmers and artist re-create the Holy Land of 1191. Actual city layouts are identical to the time period, masses of people move in and out and great care was taken in the design of their clothings, their look and their manners. All of this described in great detail in the pages of this book. One of the best how-it-was-made guides.

5 comments about Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Official Strategy Guide.
  1. Metal Gear Solid 3 is an incredible game no matter how you play it. But go through it without some help and you're bound to miss something. This guide is almost perfect in everyway possible. But there are some troubling things that keep this guide down a little.

First of all, this tome is jampacked with tons of helpful tips. Everything you need in the opening pages to know about the game is there. The guide details on all the basics of CQC. From the basics to the advanced tactics. You'll be a master of CQC. The guide also spends a lot of time detailing everything about the food.

The food section tells you if you can use it on enemies or not and how. They also tell you how it taste and whether its worth eating or not. The cure section tells you all you need to cure wounds and how to do it.

The walkthrough is very well written. Each section has a detailed set of maps, the location of every guard and the location of every item. It's very well written too, with EXCELLENT boss strategies that help out really well. Each portion of the walkthrough is broken down by area rather than objective. This is great in the sense that it's more organized. The walkthrough is actually done really well with great tactics. This is easily one of the most well written walkthroughs I've ever read.

The Easter Eggs and secrets are really cool. They go into detail on some of the better ones and talk about the bonuses and such. The secrets chapter is also done well. Alongside that, the Snake vs. Monkeys is also done really well. Each strategy to take on the monkeys helps you get excellent times and even first place assuming you take them in the recommended orders.

Then there's the stuff after the meat of the game. The interviews are spectacular and help you learn more than anything about the production of the game and the MGS series. After that there's an excerpt from the Konami Comic Book of Metal Gear Solid. This is an incredible comic. It may actually make you want to by the series.

But the guide isn't without a few faults. For one, the walkthrough is only written for Normal mode. There are areas where there are more guards and such and the guide doesn't talk about that. What's the difference between playing the game on Normal and Extreme? You'd be surprised how many hardcore MGS fans just jump to Hard Mode without ever touching the lower difficulty levels.

The guide also mentions that there are "secret" frequencies to call but they never tell you what the frequency is! They mention that you have to interrogate a guard in order to get it. But they still don't detail what the frequency is or what it does...

Then there's the biggy (and the reason five stars was an impossible feet), there are several easter eggs and secrets missing! They don't mention that you can get the EZ Gun on other difficulty levels nor do they mention anything of the infinity face paint. Not only that but they never mention how it is you're supposed to come across certain ranks. All the ranks are listed but how do I get say... the "FOX" ranking? The guide doesn't detail it.

It really is a good guide, almost perfect. But the small tidbits (and the one rather large rat) are annoying at times. I wish it was a bit more detailed on some of the secrets and gave more insight for the different difficulty levels.

Either way though, this is the perfect MGS3 companion. You shouldn't have any trouble getting through the game without it. It'll help you conquer the game and even master it at some point. But be warned that this guide is only good for its walkthrough and not much else.

  2. Bradygames brings us this strategy guide for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater for the Playstation 2. This is a fairly large paperback edition and is filled with details about the game and color screenshots from the game. The most important thing to note about this guide is that it only covers the walkthrough of the game on the "Normal" difficulty setting. While the maps would be the same on "Easy" or "Hard", the number of enemies and their locations would change on the more challenging difficulties. The location of certain items may also change, but this guide does not cover any other difficulty but "Normal". Since I played through the game on "Normal" mode, I can speak for how helpful it was for that difficulty.

The first thing to note is that this guide is packed with information. The guide begins by covering all of the items, weapons, camouflage, and different fighting techniques. Everything is listed at the start of the guide. This is very nice, but I didn't find myself flipping back to check out the techniques or items. I just used whatever basic moves that I could remember and worked my way through the game and took whatever came my way.

The real reason to buy a guide, however, is the walkthrough of the game. Before every section of the game, this guide includes a map of the area and small diagrams of where the enemies are and what sort of patrol pattern that they walk. This is helpful, but not nearly as much as it was in the guide for Metal Gear Solid 2. The problem here is simply that instead of being inside a building the entire game, the player is mostly outside in a forest or swamp. So, while the guards may walk a particular pattern it was difficult to determine just where you are on the map. What the map truly helped with was to give a general idea of where the enemies are, how many, and a general idea of where the items are. The text walkthrough (with some screenshots) is where the true value of this guide is. The text is clear in where you are, where you are going, and what you have to face. I've been playing video games for at least fifteen years, but Metal Gear Solid 3 is a challenging game without a walkthrough. The boss strategies are also quite helpful and helped me to beat them (as well as helped me defeat a couple of bosses with only the tranquilizer dart).

There is also a section which covers little "Easter Eggs", like hidden posters and figurines which reference previous Metal Gear games. It isn't terribly important, but it does add a little extra flavor. There is also a walkthrough of the Snake Vs Monkey mini-game (which I didn't bother playing).

Without this guide I would have missed many items (I have no doubt about that), been spotted by guards more often than I was (which was often), been killed many more times than I was (very few times), and spent quite a bit more time than the 24 hours that it took me to conquer the game. While this guide could have been more clear and helpful with maps and enemy locations, it was invaluable in getting me through this game. The guide is probably not essential to get the player through this game, but I have to say that it helps a lot.

    -Joe Sherry

  3. Sorry but this guide is good for the getting through the storyline-After that its nearly useless! The book doesn't tell you all the secrets! or what happens if you kill all the toy frogs!

  4. maps are a bit confusing. Picture illistration are small and not very clear. the control pictures in the illistations are also hard to see.

  5. I purchased the Essential Collection, and, I must say, it is also excellent. This guide has a detailed walkthrough, bonus section, items and weapons listing. The boss strategy is also excellent, along with the food listing, and it completely explains how to cure every wound or sickness. I highly recommend it.
