2 comments about Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. This is a good "walkthrough" in that it lays out all the maps in the game, and points out where you should go or what you should do next if you're lost or stuck. However, this walkthrough fails as a "strategy guide" for its lack of strategies. Sure, it's got some tips for certain battles, but it's of no help when it comes to raising characters. It doesn't tell you if the characters in the game has a maximum level, what are the level requirements for each of the skills, how much skill points does each level of a skill costs, or how many more skillpoints will you receive as your character's level increases. These are all vital data a first-timer needs to know in order to create sucessful characters, and none of that is in this guide. In regard to characters and skills, this guide provides absolutely nothing beyond what is already revealed in the manual that comes with the game. What's the use of knowing who you're supposed to beat up next if you don't know how to build your character to get that job done? This guide does reveal hard-to-find secrets, but its lack of character development data also makes its secrets coverage incomplete (as for hidden chars). Overall, the values of this guide lies only in its maps and secret revelations. To me, it's only value is in the secrets, for I don't think it's that hard to find your way in the game. If you think a few secrets in an otherwise unpopular console game and some maps to guide your way in this game are worth ten dollars (or more), then this walkthrough's for you.

  2. Expect this to be just as good as every Prima Book. Quality.

2 comments about Quake III Arena: Prima's Official Strategy Guide.
  1. so clear , ez to understand

  2. This 'Official Strategy Guide' from Prima was jointly produced with id Software, the creators of the Quake game series - and the appearance and layout of the book meets the high standards you'd expect from an id product; it's glossy, full of diagrams and screenshots, and is a pleasure to read. If you're already a Q3A player, you'll probably be tempted to sit down and spend an entire afternoon reading this guide!

The book contains a variety of material: a section on weapons (usefully describing their comparative benefits), a chapter on arena basics (including some useful tips on BFG/rocket jumping, air control and splash damage) and a guide to the built-in characters (interesting, but doesn't add much to your gameplay skills).

After these diversions comes the main section of the book: a level-by-level guide to all the arenas provided with the original release of the game. These sections vary in size and detail in accordance with the complexity of the level covered - so the later arena levels tend to get more coverage. Each contains a diagram of the entire map seen from above - these are useful, but the diagrams are literal birds-eye views, so they include ceilings and roof bars (difficult to see through). Also, it's a bit hard to visualize the multi-floor levels from these diagrams. After the map diagrams is a guide to getting around the level in question - this is generally the most useful part, containing many tips and secrets that you'd be very unlikely to stumble across by yourself when playing the game.

Without doubt, reading this book will make you a better Quake III player - though of course it's no substitute for indulging in hours of dedicated gameplay! The book isn't perfect - the screenshots are too small in most cases, the guide lacks an index, and the author makes no mention of the actual map file names (eg 'Q3DM17' for 'The Longest Yard') or the Q3A console syntax. Still, these are small complaints.

A last word: As id continue to bring out Q3A point releases, they add levels (eg the recent new Space CTF map) - obviously the book won't keep up with these. Also, when you enter the world of custom player-designed maps you'll probably miss the helpful advice that Prima's guide can provide! Anyway, with the 'mission pack' Team Arena due for release some time soon, I'm sure we'll be seeing a follow-up guide from the publishers.

5 comments about Mechwarior: Dark Age #10: Flight of the Falcon(A BattleTech Novel) (Mechwarrior, 10).
  1. I am an emerging science fiction author. I am also an old fan of the Mechwarrior RPG. I wanted an example of descriptive scifi action to learn from. I made a BAD choice with this book. I forced myself through the first 25 pages and threw this book across the room. Victor Milan's usage of the English language is incomprehensible. It takes him 25 pages to describe three minutes of action - and I use the word "action" loosely. He get's sidetracked in irrelevant topics of internal politics and sordid details of sex between siblings every other paragraph. Victor! Show us the big picture! What's going on?! I don't care about the minutia! You gotta write lean an mean when trying to write action.

  2. The previous Mechwarrior: DarkAge books were, um, weak. But Flight of the Falcon breathes some new life into the series. Victor Milan is one of the best Battletech writers.

In this book, the Clans come to life again. The Clans you love to hate: vicious, skilled, myopic, relentless. Not the cariatures of the Clans that have inhabited the last several years of BT books.

I will say this though - I am getting really tired of the Tara Campbell character. That is no reflection on Milan though. He works with the material he is given.

  3. This was the novel that killed MW:DA for me. Having read all the Battletech novels, I decided to give the Dark Age novels the benefit of the doubt. They were okay. I felt that I was getting my money's worth. There were minor inconsistencies where the author obviously didn't know their subject matter, but hey, I was willing to overlook it and follow the series.

That's when I bought this book. From sex and nudity to the wholesale slaughter of civillians in order to pacify worlds, this book was offensive on so many levels. The old Battletech books--while dealing with the occasional mature theme--were so skillfully written that these themes were either glossed over or written so that they were appropriate for someone around the age or 9 or 10. I wouldn't let any child read this book (and reviews here on Amazon are stating that the content is getting much worse with the later novels).

This content is NOT what I expect from a game that has been traditionally family-friendly since 1984. I got about halfway through the book before putting it down and swearing off the rest of the series.

The 'talking chicken' book (Far Country) was better than this nauseating piece of drek. Don't waste your money.

  4. I am a 15 year old kid and a fan of mechwarrior. I had not really read any of the books before but I gave it a try. The word choice was difficult for me because of the foreign words and that my vocabulary is not up to par. As for the book, unless you are a fan of the RPG, computergames, or the wizkids mechwarrior game you will not really have any interest in this book. It is packed with your favorite clans or at least mine the Jade falcon. The book jumps around a lot but the book will tell u place you're jumping to and the date for convenience. Over this entire book will help you better understand the properties of these game and background to your clans.

  5. I don't know why the other people did not like the book, but i did i like it alot but that's my opinion.

1 comments about Master of Orion: The Official Strategy Guide (Secrets of the Games).
  1. Even though the "Master of" computer games - Orion, Orion II and Magic - are no longer published, they are constantly on the classics list of many players. This book is as thorough and well produced as any guide you'll ever find, and a perfect complement to an excellent game. Very detailed and explanatory. When the games fade from your hard drive (years from now), this book will still be on your shelf as an example of "how it *should* be done."

4 comments about Need For Speed: Underground 2 (Prima Official Game Guide).
  1. Well, why I say it is a perfect guide, it is because it covers all the cars, tracks and the process of each stage. For example, in this book, it tells me I need like 6 stars to get to stage 4, 9 stars to stage 5 and 10 stars to stage 10 and to beat the game. For the tracks, it tells me pretty in detail of how long, how to run and how to win a race by these tracks. For the cars, it tells me which is good and which is not good. Basically, this book tells me a hint of how to play it.

  2. When I first played Need For Speed Underground 2 it was amazing. You could play i for hours and not get tired.

  3. Don't get me wrong, NFSU2 is a great game but it just doesn't warrent this book. I thought it'd be helpful but it wasn't and I just went through the stages of the game without the book and did just fine. There are plenty of free guides over the internet anyways.

  4. Sometimes, I often look into thrid-party strategy guides to see if they can be as helpful as they come out to be. For the guide for Need For Speed: Underground 2, I definitely was right. The guide tells you all the requirements you'd need to get through each of the five stages, as well as detailed tips for each of the well designed and conjured tracks for drag racing, outruns against underground street racers, circuits and point-to-point sprints, and the drift racing competeitions. It does add up very well for those who have Need For Speed Underground 2, and I absolutely suggest this if you get the game in new and used conditions.

  1. soul reaver is second game i ever play second. I like the Soul Reaver because, I like all his tricks and he have lots of actions and power. If you play for the firts time you have hard to play it, but if get the game it's essay game and is fun.

  2. soul reaver is second game i ever play . I like the Soul Reaver because, I like all his tricks and he have lots of actions and power. If you play for the firts time you have hard to play it, but if get the game it's essay game and is fun.

  3. GRAPHICS:Minor Flaws wont stop your eyes from bugging out over the rich backgrounds and atmospheric level layouts.Handsome and detailed.Soul Reaver is a definite looker.

SOUND:More moaning and groaning than at the dentist's office, but it is all good. The outstanding narration and vocal talent add a layer of depth. There's not enough music, though.

CONTROL:There;s some minor graphics messiness and a little bit of a slow down, but Reaver plays better than 90% of the games out there. Pay attention to the manual or youll find your self gnashing your canines.

FUN FACTOR: Better belt your self in tight, because Soul Reaver is one lonf bumpy ride.If you dont get too lost in the enormous levels,Youll find yourself pleasantly surprised by this toothy little title.

    GRAPHICS=5.0 SOUND=4.5 CONTROL=4.5 FUN FACTOR=5.0

  4. Soul Reaver is an excellent game even though it has some very minor gliches. It is one of the most challenging I have ever played on playstation, and it is sure to keep you going and going for hours. The guide is a tremendous help. Without it you are sure to run into many confusing puzzles, and spend a whole lot of time wondering where to go, and what to look for. To sum up... the guide is a definite must, but with or without it the game is excellent, and recommended for all you playstation fans out there!

  5. This strategy book is fine. It guides you to the game, but, listen to my advise: use it as a 'confirmation' resource, go and explore in the game, experiment with Raziel abilities, and later check if you didn't miss something....you can always go back in this game.
The only reason I didn't give the 5th star is because some pictures are very dark, I found a wrong picture in one of the pages, and It will also be helpful to show some sidebars in the pages where important items are to be found.

  1. This is the best strategy guide ever hav

  2. I was a very hardcore Prima guide buyer. I practically had Prima strategy guides for every one of my games. Then the worse happened. I couldn't find a Prima guide for Resident Evil 2 for N64. So finally, on Amazon, I found a guide. It wasn't Prima, but what the heck, I needed a guide and I needed it fast!! I ordered this and when it came...I was amazed to say the least!! I thought it was way better than most Prima guides I've read and had a lot of pictures and all Leon and Claire A and B walkthroughs all in their own section! It also has tons and tons of pics, info on the story, enemies, characters, items, weapons and secrets (like special weapons and costumes)! The walkthroughs are great and very descriptive, too!! It doesn't even ruin the ending becuase it doesn't tell what happens. It tells how to defeat the boss and then stops! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to give other guides a chance...This one'll change your mind about who you buy from. It changed mine!!

  3. I'm gonna say that this isn't a bad strategy guide, though it is far from the best I've seen.I've looked through it and it covers the maps, levels, and enmies fairly well. And it looks like it would do the job. The problem is that the actual game isn't much fun, mostly because of its gameplay. The guide isn't organized all that greatly, but it will do the job if you are stuck somewhere (yeah, it doesn't give away too many secrets).

2 comments about Need for Speed: Pro Street: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Prima Official Game Guides).
  1. While billed as a strategy guide, there is little to no useful information regarding the strategy of playing and beating the game. This is probably the worst "guide" I've ever purchased. The one and only reason I thought this might be of use, was that the many of the cars in Pro Street don't tune in a fashion recognizable as sensible or based in reality. You can see on the cover where it advertises tuning tips. Well there aren't any that wouldn't be obvious to all but the most oblivious gamer. The main tuning strategyu goes something like this- buying custom parts allows you to tune your car, while buying upgrade packages will not. Wow, that's deep. They must have missed that awesome announcemnt while playing with the menus after the 1st race. The one plus of this book is that it lists all the decals available to detail your car with. This is great for those types who want to play car dress up. Overall, don't buy this book. Order it via the interlibrary exchange, photocopy the pages you want and return the book to your smiling local librarian.

  2. This book, unlike some others, did not really provide valuable tips on how to win. The tips were stating the obvious rather than telling you what to do to beat or win a race. Unlike other Prima books, this particular one did not help me at all. You could beat the Showdown King without reading any book. It just takes a great tuned car and a lot of repair markers.

  1. Strategy guides are horrible. Why use one ESPECIALLY for DOA3? ITS LIKE A STRATEGY GUIDE FOR PONG!!!!!!!

  2. I dont know why "nightmarecow1" didnt like it.. I thought it was amazing... I loved it and thats all that matters....

  3. Lets face it a Strategy Guide for DoA3 is very lame. BUT it is insightful. Another reviewer said that it's as useful as a guide for Pong. Well they have a point, DoA3 is a fighting game whos objective is to bash the other player. Play long enough and you learn how to do just that. What this guide shows you is how to do it in style, how to take out the other guy with that rare combo, and with some practise do it everytime. If you are like this Gamer, who is NOT 14 and can NOT spend 12 hours in front of his XBOX (though I wish I could), then this guide is for you. Enjoy it.
PS Rember Pong was the #1 selling game for a long time back in the day.

  4. Dead or alive 3 is a very good fighting game. The graphics are realistic. Kicking fighters off clifs, through glass windows, into electric gates, and fighting in water or while it's snowing is really cool. The reason I rated it 4 instead of 5 is because the only thing I don't like about it is the amount of fighters in this game. You beat the game too fast. If it had like 20 to 25 fighters like mortal kombat 4 or tekken tag then It will probaly be known as the 3rd best fighting game ever. Right now #1 is still the tekken series and #2 is still the mortal kombat series.
