5 comments about Official Nintendo Power The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Player's Guide.
- I have both Zelda Guides (this and the Prima) I personally far prefer this (the Nintendo) guide but YOUR preference depends on what you're looking for. What makes this guide superior (IMHO) is the clean, simple layout/directions. The focus is on the basics - you can quickly scan this, to figure out what to do next if you get stuck, view the excellent maps to get a sense of where you are, and accomplish all important tasks.
For me the Prima Guide is so cluttered, busy and unfocused, I find myself studying the guide more than playing and enjoying the game. The maps are barely ledgible in low light, and cluttered with graphics of every item (major and minor) including every bloody ruppee found in a chest - making it necessary to seriously study the map just to locate the vitals (keys, hearts etc).
The walkthrus in the Prima guide are considerably more detailed leading you to every golden bug, rupee patch etc. Many will prefer this approach, I just found that it interfered with enjoyment of the game - since you become victim of strict adherence to the guide. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-cheats heck, I buy these guides since there's nothing more frustrating than getting stuck in a massive game like Zelda.)
That said, the Prima Guide had one thing I really liked: a list of hearts/checklist. It also had some nice overviews of techniques, and more strategies on boss killing.
SUMMARY
Which guide you prefer, will likely depend on how you like to play the game. I prefer to meander a bit, search around, try things for myself and turn to a guide when I'm stuck - I'm also (obviously) really bothered by cluttered graphics - and find the Nintendo truly elegant looking, and useful for my style of play. The Prima guide is more geared to those who don't want to miss a single item at the first possible opportunity - follow it to the letter, and you'll won't miss a thing, and won't need to retrace your steps.
PS: If you can, buy both
- After playing Legend of Zelda on Nintendo 64 several years ago, it was a must to play on Nintendo wii as well. Knowing how many hours it'll take to play the the game to the end, this guide was bought.
The guide has been very helpfull on the way so far, and it actually gives me time to enjoy the game.Legend of Zelda: Twilight Wii
- This is a great guide for help with the game. Although the guide tends to lean toward the wii, it does explain both the wii and the gamecube. One has to remember that some of the items on the gamecube are in the opposite side for the wii... in other words, if something on the wii in the east, it will be in the west on the gamecube.
- The guide enables you to play knowing what your doing. It makes it more fun for me not having to second guess every move.
- i bought it because it said it covered the gamecube version no it dosent go figure there two compeletely different games everything is switched right to left so that if theres a room on the right on the map than its on my left on the gamecube version. because most people are right handed they changed link because in previous games he was left handed im not entirely sure how it effects game play, though it takes quite a bit of getting used to, but i could see it being very useful to wii gamers. but if you own the gamecube version buy the specificaly made guide.

- The Complete Idiot's Guide to Street Magic by TOM OGDEN has to be the best book ever written on the subject. Easy to understand instructions, great visuals (pictures) and even easier to pull off and mystify your friends. THIS BOOK IS A MUST if you want to fool your friends .... Or buy a copy and give it to everyone on your Christmas list. Your friends will NOT be disappointed. I have also discovered several other books by Tom Ogden, all good fun. You are NUMBER ONE Tom. Keep it UP!
Mark
- The title of this book might be a bit off-putting to serious magicians. "Street magic" is busking, a centuries-old art: a charismatic street performer draws a crowd and does a show for as many people as will watch. Ogden is referring here to the "street magic" seen on television since David Blaine's first special in 1997. Young magicians find Blaine's "street magic" fascinating, because it's cooler than traditional stage performance. Old-timers don't consider TV-style "street magic" to be the real deal. However, Ogden is using the concept here to appeal directly to a 21st-century audience.
Ogden offers a first-rate introduction to the history and art of conjuring. The tricks here vary in difficulty from very simple sleight-free tricks to intermediate sleight-of-hand. They are carefully selected to have maximum punch. The presentations will truly amaze audiences. His partners in this venture include some of the biggest names in magic: Max Maven, Jeff McBride, Mac King, Michael Ammar, and many others.
This is one of the best introductory books on conjuring I have ever seen. Highly recommended.

5 comments about The Puzzlemaster Presents: 200 Mind-Bending Challenges (Other).
- this book is amazing! i teach middle school (6-7-8) english, and i use these puzzles with my students. they can't get enough! for any fans of the npr sunday morning puzzle, this book is a must.
- Will Shortz has delighted puzzle lovers world-wide for years. This collection is another excellent offering from the man who has dedicated his life to the pleasure of solving puzzles. If you have neither listened to Will's radio show nor purchased this book, you're missing out on a great opportunity to have a good deal of challenging fun. I still get a kick ( and feel honored) when Will features one of my puzzles on his show because of the way he makes it come to life with his enthusiasm. If you don't know by now, Will Shortz is the master of wordplay. Do yourself, friends, and family a favor. Get this book for hours of good,clean-cut fun and then tune in his show on NPR for more.
- As a fan of Will Shortz's other puzzle books I was eager to try the puzzles in this volume. There is a good variety ranging from fairly easy to extremely challenging puzzles. The topics are varied with both puzzles and answers presented in an easy to use format. Many puzzle books do not provide adequate space to properly fill in your answers but this book does.
- If you listen to Will Shortz on Sunday's Weekend Edition, you know what kind of puzzles are in this volume. Half the puzzles are of the type that he conducts with a call-in listener. This usually involves a series of word puzzles with short answers you can come up with on the spot. The other half of the puzzles in The Puzzlemaster Presents are of the sort that he leaves us with to solve during the week. They are harder and have one correct answer.
The first type of puzzle is fun, but the second type is my favorite because you usually have to do these in your head. I like to keep one or two in mind for occasions like being stuck in traffic or standing in line. They really make the time fly and you don't need pencil and paper. I find they are also great if you have trouble getting to sleep. Concentrating on a tricky word puzzle or arithmetic calculation sure keeps your mind from wandering all over the place. And don't look for clever tricks with these puzzles. One thing about Will Shortz is that even though he loves puzzles, he is scrupulously fair. He gives you all the information you will need to solve each problem.
- I like the variety of puzzles in this book...as opposed to all crossword, etc. One has to figure out the rule before solving the puzzle.

5 comments about Weighing the Odds in Hold'em Poker.
- This book is my favorite Hold 'Em book of all time for one simple reason. Every piece of advice it gives is backed up with one or more concrete examples of that principle in a game scenario as well as a mathematical proof of why that strategy is ultimately profitable in the long run. There are thousands of possible scenarios in poker. Having an expert tell me to throw away King-Queen offsuit in early position does me no good if I don't know why. I either won't remember, will misapply that information, or at the very least won't encounter that exact situation at the table where an understanding of the reasoning behind the advice might help me apply the same principle to a similar although slightly different scenario. This is where Yao as an author shines. This book will take you a bit longer than most other Hold 'Em books to get through but it's well worth the trip. If you want to skip over the mathematical parts, the writing itself is enough to stand on its own. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to deepen their ability to play Hold 'Em strategically. It's probably not the best first book if you've never read any book about the game before but a great second or third book - highly recommended.
- This is a great book if yuor are into the mathematical aspects of hold'em. ALthough there are some good cencepts for those are less concerned it's main focus is on math. This book also explains outs and non-outs and how to calculate pot odds based on these as well as based on what your opponents cards are (if you are able to read hands well enough).
- re-read this all the time. addresses only 'limit' games and i only play 'on-limit' and free-rolls. think it provides a good 'basic TIGHT strategy'. he addresses bluffing but it didn't 'stick'. like the charts alot! guess i'm old-school but did find the use of 'she, her' a little annoying. still don't understand 'raising for a free card'. lol
all the best,
RR
- If you want to learn about the odds and how to play Hold'em Poker, GET THIS BOOK NOW !!!
- And that's exactly what I was looking for. If you are looking for the down and dirty numbers behind poker, and I am not talking about tables of numbers to memorize but the actual formulas that those tables are derived from, this is the book for you. Reading this book makes my head hurt, and probably should be done sitting at a desk with a pen and paper. Not only do you want to take notes, you will also want to be sure you can work through what Yao is explaining.
It is a wonderful read if that is what you are looking for.

1 comments about To the Swift: Classic Triple Crown Horses and Their Race for Glory.
- Joe Drape is an accomplished turf writer, he has won the prestigious Eclipse Award for outstanding achievement in horse racing writing.
But in this volume of 130 years of the best writing on the sport from The New York Times, Drape enters the starting gate as editor and guides this outstanding history to the winner's circle. To bolster the original stories, there are new essays and a number of classic photographs.
And it is all about chasing dreams, no matter what the odds, as explained by the legendary Red Smith in one column: "More often than not," he writes, "a few owners show up so eager to see their colors in the Derby that they will tear their pants getting up entry and starting fees. The fact that the bettors rated A Dragon Killer no better than a 294 to 1 chance didn't discourage that noble creature's owner in 1958, and the same field included Chance It Tony at 243 to 1."

5 comments about Official Nintendo Pokemon Diamond Version & Pearl Version Player's Guide.
- It covers up to battles with Elite 4 and Champion. There is a lot more to explore and catch after that. One could say that the game becomes more interesting after beating the champion. Get a lot more information from online guides. Search for "pokemon diamond faq" using google.
For the part it covers, the guide is reasonably well organized and helpful.
- Just a word of advice for those seeking to get a Complete 428+8 Pokedex out of this guide: you won't find it here. After reading the reviews on both the Nintendo and Prima 'game guides, I thought I would share something with you. I went and bought the actual Prima Pokedex, which is a FULL and COMPLETE pokedex, giving every Pokemon you can possibly think of, from Charmander to Mew to Lugia to Cresslia. And, what's more, it even gives you an 'after game' guide for when you finally beat the Elite Four.
It even has list, from the battle moves Pokemon can learn, to what types of moves you should use on certain Pokemon. So, just to warn you before you spend your money on this thinking you are getting a Pokedex, check Amazon for the 'Prima Official Pokedex' (it should have a small box in the upper right corner of the picture that says Vol. 2) and get that: don't waste your money on this one if you don't want the complete walk-through, and to be left high and dry after you 'beat' the game.
- This book was received in just a few days and in very good shape. We are very satisfied.
- I bought this for my son who absolutely loves it. Helpful walk through is very informative and the section dealing with the Pokemon themselves is quite fun. If you're stuck in Diamond or Pearl this guide will be a big help. Most, but not all of your questions will be answered in this guide.
- Well my review might not be fair, he received this and the game same day, so the book did not get read right away! Book turned out to be important, a good reference guide. I would buy again, just so I do not have to hear him whine, instead I can tell him to read the book.

5 comments about Sims 2 Castaway: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Prima Official Game Guides).
- There's a lot of information in this book. I purchased it because I was stuck and unable to find additional areas, despite being sure I knew where they were located--I could "see" the area, but was unable to enter it. I am playing PSP, so the guide was not a perfect fit, but the only information I was able to find online in November 2007 pertained to the Nintendo DS, which is a different game. The downside to this book is that it not organized in what I would consider a logical manner, and I have had a tough time finding the tip I need when I need it. Overall, it has helped me progress a bit further, though.
- I was very happy with everything about the product, the delivery, the product itself everything.
- While the book was a very good read, it was useless to me as the web site never stated what platform the guide was for. I brought it for my DS game, and the guide only covered the PS2 and Wii versions. There is a VERY small spot actually on the picture of the guide itself (you have to enlarge the photo to see it clearly. The web page needs to clearly state what system the book is for. While it read very well, and IF I HAD the game, I'm sure it would be a great help, I gave the book to a friend. It was useless to me.
- If you like the TV show, Lost, you will probably like this game. It is like the show, but you get to control what is happening.
We were totalling addicted to it. We played everyday until we accomplished all the goals. Now, we don't play anymore. We had a great time all playing. All of our family members had fun playing the characters and making things.
- This guide is pretty useful for this game. It definately helps out. I've found every question I had answered by finding it in the book.

5 comments about Casino Gambling For Dummies (For Dummies (Sports & Hobbies)).
- Any new book on casino gambling has to contend with a shelf full (virtual or real) of other titles covering the same material, but in Casino Gambling for Dummies, Kevin Blackwood has done a masterful job of bringing a fresh attitude and informative approach that provides solid justification for another title on the topic. This is the 'For Dummies' brand at its best, tackling all the favorites, blackjack, craps, sports betting, as well as many meta-topics (like dealing with the IRS after a profitable run at the tables) with fact-infused, easy-to-read prose that will entertain and inform. People just entering the neon world for the first time will get as much instructional material as they can handle, from rules of the game to strategy. Seasoned gamblers will reap the benefits of Blackwood's expertise and experience at the felt-covered tables around the world. There is particular depth in the blackjack section, likely a product of Blackwood's long resume as one of the top players in the world. The organization is inspired and the writing is top notch, particularly the chapter on horse racing.
- Kevin Blackwood is an expert blackjack player who has played all over the world; he is an expert poker player as well. His knowledge of the casino games is profound and this book gives you everything you need to know to go to the casinos and play properly. Ignore the title because you are not a dummy if you buy this book.
You are smart!
Frank Scoblete: author of Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution!
- I was mainly interested in slots, video poker, & blackjack. Presented good info in an uncomplicated style. Also full of info for practically any other game that may be your particular choice(s). I recommend it VERY highly for beginners or the more experienced player!!!!!
- I wonder why on page 170, the baccarat rules states that, for example, when the banker's total is 6, then the banker will draw if the player's new total is 6 or 7. The correct version is: the banker will draw when the "player's third card" is 6 or 7, not the "new total". On page 171 though, the table lists it as "player's third card". Incidentally, I found a bug in the Hoyle's Casino 2007 for PC game, with it drawing a card for the banker when it shouldn't... oh well... isn't the rule somewhat important? It is a very basic set of rule... I wonder if we have that sometimes in the casino and nobody noticed.
Otherwise, the book provides basic rules, strategies, and some interesting stories about the various games. It is a pretty good book for beginners, but make sure you pick another one up just to cross reference. Idiot's Guide and the Unofficial Guide also have a good book on casino gambling.
One thing I am sensitive about the book is that it stresses on etiquette quite a lot. Thing like, "don't hand your money directly to the dealer; doing so is a breach of etiquette and brands you as a greenhorn. After you receive your chips, leave them on the table in front of you". Oh well, a "breach"? so serious? I don't know, I just feel that nowadays, we tend to have too much politeness and etiquette and too little true kindness among human beings, so I don't like to read about etiquette for this and etiquette for that.
- I bought this after my first trip to a casino. I enjoyed myself there but understood that I could have had a better time if I knew how casinos worked. This book is great at giving a basic knowledge of how casinos work and educates you on the many different games and how to enjoy yourself for entertainment purposes. I highly recommend this book if you a planning a trip to a casino for the first time or if you've been to a casino and you would like to expand your overall knowledge and enjoyment. It has basic tips and strategies for all the casino games and is a good starting point. You can always delve further into the games that you like with other books, but this is a quality broad overview of casinos and their games.
