  1. The men in my life LOVE the Bathroom Reader. I buy them for my husband who gives it to my Dad, then Dad gives it to my Brother, then my Brother gives it to our Brother-in-Law, and Lord only knows who he gives it too. I have never felt I've wasted money on Uncle John's Bathroom Readers. They are always interesting, perfectly suitable for a 30 minute sit-on. Highly recommended.

  2. My hubby loves these readers. Since he is always breaking out in a song, we thought this would be the perfect gift! He loves it.

  3. Uncle Johns books never fail to be a great read. Wonderful trivia-history-the small snippets at the bottom of each page-a FINE book! If you are a music lover-and even if you're not-you will enjoy this book!

  4. My husband is a touring singer, musician and music trivia genius - so this was a perfect gift for him! Although I didn't think it could happen, this book actually had some facts that he DIDN'T know! It's a great book if you enjoy music and interesting music facts and stories.

  5. People spend a lot of time answering nature's call. "Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Plunges Into Music" enriches the time spent clearing out one's body by filling one's mind with intriguing trivia, facts, and history about the world of music. Covering all genres from rap to hard rock, "Plunges into Music" is an intriguing collection sure to make the time spent on one's throne pass smoothly. Highly recommended.

5 comments about World of Warcraft Strategy Collection 2008.
  1. This has been a great help in learning the game. The atlas alone has helped me check that I've covered all of a new area, and taken advantage of available quests. Organizes information better than the websites do.

    --aw

  2. As said in the title, this product contains information that is easily accessed for free over the internet. The only exclusive features it truly has are the Penny Arcade comics. If you value your money, then use Google, not Brady.

  3. Ok this review is for the product description given instead of the product itself. Im confused here because according to the product description the product contains the Burning Crusade strategy guides. Then when you scroll down and read some of the reviews they talk about about an atlas given as well as strategy guides for the original WOW game itself also mentioning that there is no info on the Buring Crusade expansion. So Amamzon which one is it? I wouldnt buy this product until Amazon does a serious overhaul of the product description that is listed on this site.

  4. When it says buy this book with the wow burning crusade book...don't. It comes with the set, another thing this does not come with is the atlas and the page number total listed is wrong, meaning only two books. Sadly I thought it included the atlas. Well, I give it 5 stars for information for the game, but 3 stars for description of the set.

  5. Yes all the information that are in these books are online. Yes... places, names, items, quest do change in the game of World of Warcraft, which are easily changeable on Thotbot and other online WOW help sites, but cannot change in print until a new edition comes out. But these guides are very helpful. In the middle of an instance battle, or for boss battles, these guides become invaluable. Everything is at your fingers. These books contain guides, helpful hints, boss victories, hundreds and hundreds of charts of just about every item, easy, hard or almost impossible to get. If you are a WOW player, then these guides will help you immensely.

5 comments about Folk Shawls (Folk Knitting series).
  1. This was the first shawl book I ever bought. I read it cover to cover a few times before ever picking up yarn and needles. The shawls are diverse, beautiful and the stories are captivating.

  2. I am a fan of the "Folk" books and have several. The Folk Shawl book is easy to read, easy to understand, and gave me my first introduction to lace knitting. I was instantly hooked. I've knitted several of the shawls from this book and highly recommend it to anyone exploring lace knitting for the first time and as a tool to introduce newer knitters to this art. I've had great fun with Folk Shawls and have become a wearer of my shawls preferring them to sweaters.....they easily slip on and off and are a comfort in the cold weather. I even knitted a heavier version of the larger Stora shawl out of worsted weight wool and wore it as a substitute for a coat over an alpaca sweater!

Thank you Cheryl Oberle for a wonderful book!

  3. A friend of mine loaned me a copy of her book when she found out that I was looking for something new and different from the afghans I had been knitting with old left over yarns. After looking thru the book and trying one of the patterns, I realized that I want to try ALL of the patterns in this book. If your looking at this book and thinking about getting it, I recommend getting the book, if your new to these kinds of things, like me, you can always start using scrap yarns and then move up to the more sophisticated yarns if you are comfortable with reading the pattern. There are patterns here that are easy to do and some that are a bit more challenging but all worth the time and effort. I'm still working up the courage to try a couple of these but I will get there eventually.

  4. 25 Knitting patterns and tales from around the world will educate and entertain you for years to come. The shawls here are gorgeous and inspired by traditions and designs from around the world.

You will find a shawl here for every occasion and every one is spectacular. They originate from Ireland, Japan, Iceland, Victorian England, Russia, Scotland, Mexico, Norway and more. Each design will teach you more to enhance your skills and an average knitter should be able to create most of them. The instructions are both written and charted.

This is an amazingly creative book for knitters or anyone who loves fashion and fashion history. For me, this would even be worth purchasing if I didn't know how to knit. The pictures are gorgeous, the designs are fabulous and the concept of this book is so wonderful it absolutely puts me over the moon!

    LOVE this book!

  5. I'm a Latina, married to a Japanese man, and have a Navajo sister-in-law. There is a Spanish Christening Shawl, a Mexican Ribozo shawl, a Kimono Shawl, and a Native American shawl in this book. Not to mention many many other types of shawls from around the world. I also love the sampler shawl, it is beautiful. I basically want to make every single shawl right now. I don't wear shawls. That's how inviting this book is. The photos are exquisite. It is the first book I bought on the spot in a book store in a long time, rather than waiting to get it shipped from Amazon. Something about having my cultures included makes it a very special book for me. Plus, the author lives in my neck of the woods:)

3 comments about SCRABBLE Wordbook.
  1. Word lists based on 4th ed OSPD; good price, comprehensive, indexed nicely, easy to follow and some really interesting lists (ie mnemonics for the top 100 7-letter bingo stems, words with 70% vowels, short words that take suprise "s" endings, etc). Baron has gone beyond just listing "the two's", "q without u's", "jqxz's" and "word-hooks", lists (although, these lists are included); and created a really great resource for Scrabble enthusiasts. Only complaint is that word lists are printed in VERY small font, so those of us with small print issues should invest in a magnifying glass.

  2. The original holy grail for hardcore Scrabble players has been updated to match the latest North American Scrabble dictionary. Whether you're a solid living-room player looking to enter the world of Scrabble clubs, or already a hardcore Scrabble junkie looking for the ultimate edge, this book has what you need to succeed.

This not only contains every acceptable word of eight and fewer letters, in two lists (one alphabetical, the other in "alphagram", e.g. aaaghlmpr, order), but also key starter lists and tools to help you learn the most important words as efficiently as possible. Highly recommended!

  3. This book is very well organized and easy to follow. The lists are in order of importance/usefulness and the introductions to each section are informative and entertaining. The only thing it's missing is a list of front and back hooks for the three letter words.

I've been studying it vigorously for a month or so and have seen a great improvement in my game.

A must for all Scrabble lovers, especially those aspiring to tournament play!

5 comments about Poker for Dummies.
  1. Its good for beginners but its too broad.....it covers a little bit on every poker game and teaches you about bluffing, helped me win Id reccomend it!

  2. it's great that this book assumes that you know nothing about poker, because i knew nothing.

this book is great in helping you think of all the considerations in poker, what the odds are, the groupings of hands, what other players are playing etc, but with a bit of practise, you can make these decisions in a matter of seconds. and practise i did. when i found that lou krieger was host of royal vegas poker, i practised there.

the only aspect that put me off a bit, but was my own shortcoming, not the book's, was the issue of calculating the standard deviations, outs etc. being mathematically challenged, puts me at a disadvantage.

but this is a great book, which is comprehensively basic - as it should be. i'd recommend it to anyone.

  3. I love "Dummies" books and usually start with one when I want to learn something completely new. I have played poker recreationally most of my life, and been a consistent winner--because my competition was even worse than I was. I even won in my sole foray into a card club--because I was lucky. I had never played Hold'em, however. I wanted to learn more than just the rules of the game and get an introduction to some of the theoretical poker concepts that I knew were out there. This is the wrong book for that.

This book is just too elementary for anyone but a total and complete novice. The only "take away" for me was an understanding of what playing tight pre-flop means for Hold'em. The commentary on post-flop play was way too simple-minded.

This book spends too much time explaining things like tournaments, the World Series of Poker, and the Internet. I am still looking for the book I want.

  4. This book is great for everyone who's new to poker, especially casino poker. It explains all kinds of poker in detal and gives general rules on how to win in poker. You certainly can learn all your basics from this book, but I don't think it's good for people who want to learn Hold'em in particular - for that I'd recommend "Hold'em Excellence: From Beginner to Winner" by Lou Krieger. It explains everything in detail. Krieger certainly knows what he's talking about and explains it in a simple, easy to read form.
Poker for Dummies doesn't deal very well with internet poker; it only gives some general advice and the info is somewhat outdated. If you're interested in online poker, it's definitely not for you.

  5. Honestly, this book didn't do much for me. I never got interested in reading it, and just learned by playing and watching poker tournaments on TV.

  1. Perplexing Puzzles and Tantalizing Teasers will definitely test your wits and best of all, it'll test your common sense. You'll realize common sense is not so common after all! The book is also full of word games, visual games, conundrums, jokes, palindromes, and some real stumpers. I was given my first copy 18 years ago, and I've been hooked ever since. The illustrations are great; and if you can't figure something out, the answer is always in the back.

  2. I was so glad to find that this book is still in print. It was wonderful and challenging and great fun to figure out some of the problems, learn a different way of looking at things, stretching your imagination... It taught me that things aren't always the way they appear to be. It taught me to think for myself and I used it over and over again, exercising the mind muscle. I lost mine from 25 years ago, and its one of the books that has stood out from my childhood. Now I'm thrilled to find I can still get a copy for my son and a few copies as unique gifts. Its not like any other childrens book I've seen.

  3. This book is a bonanza of puzzles, riddles, and questions with an emphasis on humor. Two great volumes bound as one. Put together they account for 93 stimulating brainteasers ideal for strengthening young mental muscles. Ridiculous riddles, tantalizing teasers, intricate mazes, deceptive illusions, tricky questions, and a host of unusual word and picture puzzle will offer your kids many hours of challenging fun. All the solutions are given at the back of the book.

This curious and comic collection is the perfect companion for car trips, parties, picnics, or those long rainy days.

  4. Martin Gardner is the best and most entertaining puzzler around. You will enjoy this book.

  1. Out of the half dozen coloring books we bought last year this one was our favorite. Every design felt well thought out and was quite fun to color. My only complaint is that there weren't more pictures to color. This is well worth buying if you're looking for a challenge to your coloring skills.

  2. I enjoyed this book very much. I kept it on my coffee table and would color in it to relax. Now that each page is colored I have moved it to my bookshelf.

  3. I think this will be fun to color with my granddaughter. We love to color things together, and we love designs. Thanks.

  4. I teach an alternative high school class and these designs have helped my students focus and relax at the same time. Anyone who works with troubled teens should have these at their disposal...one more item to add to your bad of tricks!

  5. This book completes the series of Mandala coloring books by this author. Well worth the money spent.

  1. Very detailed strategy guide. The artwork is awesome and the level of explanation from the writers is incredible. A must have for any Halo fan.

  2. There are some good tips and advice in the pages of this guide for legendary which I beat, but I was disappointed that they did not show the location of the skulls. It is fun to read through the guide to find some interesting advice. Its worth buying for this price. Enjoy

  3. This is very helpful for game play.I would greatly encourage the xbox live gamer to get it because it tells the respawn times for the weapons on each multiplayer map.

  4. I am not a "gamer" This was a purchase for my grandson at christmas. I am able to relate to his delight. Further, I feel that as intense as this game is the guide book was a good thing to include with the X-box and Halo game.Jamie says it is "way cool" with real great tips and tricks. I bet that you did not think that it was possible to get a big old bear hug from a 13 year old boy in front of his friends.

  5. i just bought this iteam.i love halo...i also just orderd halo3 ...i was wondering what is the content of the guid...help would be great

3 comments about Strategy: An Introduction to Game Theory, 2nd Edition.
  1. Joel Watson has done a terrific job introducing game theory. Beware- game theory is not for the light hearted, this book does contain some very dense mathematical proofs etc. The hardest part of the book is understanding the mathematical proofs for the main ideas of game theory. Once the mathematical foundation has been layed down it is very easy to follow the main concepts such as nash equilibrium, bargaining solutions, etc. Watson writes in a very relaxed and informal fashion, which is very refreshing. If your professor requires this book for class you should not worry, this is one of the best books on the market.

  2. Comment to the last review: This book is an excllent txbook, especially when the prof teaching this class is Joel Watson himself. Very interesting prof he is.
The book is very useful and easy to follow.

  3. Really book for game theory and contract theory. The author does a really good job of explaining the theory with examples that are easy to understand.
