5 comments about Silver Bullets: A Guide to Initiative Problems, Adventure Games and Trust Activities.
  1. Regardless of what age group of people you are working with, if you need a way to break down barriers between participants, this is the book for you. There are games, actions that involve trust, problems that involve reasoning and intiative thinking, and problem solving activities as well. The activities described in this book can be used with large or small groups, from youth groups to upper management teams. After participating in several of the activities, there will be new levels of trust and friendship developed and less friction in the organization. The Author, Karl Rohnke has done an excellent job of bringing together under one book many activities to promote co-operation and creativity among the participants. You can even adapt the games to a family level to increase harmony in the home. Silver Bullets provides a way to express the positive qualities of interaction among people to increase the human spirit of warmth and kindness. Be Thankful that there are people like Karl Rohnke who have the vision to put into words and pictures their ideas and creativity to build better relationships.

  2. Silver Bullets has been a lifesaver in some cases for us and in others has enabled us to put some great programs together for Boy Scout Troops and Explorer Scouts. I have also used some of its activities in a classroom setting. We currently do not know where our one and only copy is, so we are anxious to get another.

  3. Lists numerous activities for youth. It clearly describes the activity and states the "purpose" of the activity. List of equipment needed are included. I have used the book extensively in setting up obstacle courses for bootcamps I conduct for youth teams going on short term mission trips. Great for team building. Many pictures.

  4. This book should be in every person's bag! Any time i cannot think of an activity i pull out silver bullets. Activities are great for children age 5 all the way to adult groups too! This and Quicksilver are my favorites - i will leave it at that.

  5. I was trying to locate something helpful for use in a more business-like setting and made a mistake with this one. Seems like this book is for activities aimed at kids 12 and under (though most of the photos show adults doing some of this sutff). This would NOT go over well with the adults I work with and I can't even imagine it outside of work. One activity is called "Basic Killer"---real nice with the increase in violence lately. Also, though some of the activities are indoors, it seemed that the vast majority were handled outdoors. Then there are the props...anyone have a spare parachute? I was disappointed and am returning it.

1 comments about Super Paper Mario: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Prima Official Game Guides).
  1. Since Nintendo came out with the Wii last year, there have been a lot of good games for it like The Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess. However, when it comes to maps and strategy guides, you can often find it as a hit or a miss for Third-Party companies like Prima with those guides. Especially with Nintendo's latest Mario adventure Super Paper Mario. Although the guide is sometimes handy, it just doesn't detail enough information from the maps, which at times makes it very frustraing to play on the Wii. I honestly suggest you get the Player's Guide Nintendo made instead. It might be a few bucks more, but it is much more worth getting, especially if you want to master Bowser and crew.

2 comments about Army of Two: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides).
  1. When I saw the Prima label I hesitated to buy this guide, but against my better judgement and because I'm a big fan of the game I bought it any way. Like every other Prima strategy guide I've wasted money on, there was little information here that couldn't either be learned from the instruction manual and in game tutorials or by just spending a little time exploring the versus maps with a friend. One potentially useful bit of information - the chart comparing the damage done by various weapons - was very poorly conceived. Will someone buy these guys a copy of The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, 2nd edition? The guide contains several minor errors as well, including errors in the Xbox 360 achievements.

    Just to be certain, I read the entire guide from cover to cover, hoping to find some bit of new or useful information somewhere, but found nothing to justify the price of this book. The only positive thing I can think of to say about it is the artwork is cool.

    Hopefully EA will drop Prima and use Brady Games to do it's strategy guides from now on, as they always seem to do a much better job with them than Prima.

    If you enjoy the game's story line I recommend picking up the graphic novel, Army of Two: Dirty Money , but I would discourage anyone from wasting money on this strategy guide.

  2. The guide for Army of Two, while not strictly necessary, is very useful. It offers good strategies for tough sections of the game and helps identify secondary objectives and hidden items to collect. It also offers a complete guide of all the weapons which can be purchased and how all the various upgrades affect their stats and performance in the field. Not too much else to say about it, it is a good guide which provides useful information to help with the game and does so in a fairly concise and easy to read way. Not strictly needed, but a good thing to have if you're having trouble.

  1. You'll never again spend your time working the average mundane crossword puzzle after you've tried one of Merl Reagle's! The clues may be straightforward or a bit devious; either way, they are totally fair and you will often find yourself smiling as you get that "aha!" feeling. THEN, as the clever theme reveals itself to you, the real fun begins. You will laugh out loud with delight! I don't know how Merl pulls this off in puzzle after puzzle, but I'm glad I found them.

  2. What fun! Now I don't have to wait for the Sunday paper to enjoy Merl's talent and humor. I love taxing my brain with his puzzles.

4 comments about The Complete Idiot's Guide to Webkinz (Complete Idiot's Guide to).
  1. This is an excellent introduction and overview of the Webkinz world. They give helpful suggestions, such as carefully picking your child's user name as it is the name they will be known by in tournaments, and in the Webkinz world.

    They explain how to keep your Webkinz happy such as;
    · Putting it to bed before you log out
    · Feeding it healthy food
    · Playing with it
    · Bathing it
    · Having it's favorite toy (and where to find out what that is, on the my pets bio)

    They bust the urban legend that Webkinz die, which they don't. They can get sick though, and that requires a visit to Dr. Quack's clinic where you are often told they need more sleep or a better diet.

    There are areas where I wish the authors went into more detail, such as specially formulated foods like the Iceberg Chili for polar bears. I know from personal experience if you feed one of these special foods to the wrong pet, the wrong pet will complain. They mention the subject, but only give two examples. I would have found a complete list more valuable.

    They touch on everything in the Webkinz world, from decorating your room, to the most efficient way to earn money such as Quizzy's . The general sections of the book are;
    1. Getting started
    2. Earning cash...and what you can buy
    3. Fun and games
    4. Educational activities
    5. Communication and security
    6. Other fun things to do online
    7. Cooking and socializing
    8. Webkinz trading cards
    9. FAQs (frequently asked questions)
    Apendixes that include;
    · Webkinz and Lil' Kinz
    · Where to buy Webkinz
    · Gem Hunt Hints (this tells where to find specific gems)

    With as many hours as I have logged helping my six year old navigate Webkinz world, I still learned several things from this book.

    If you're a complete expert in one area of Webkinz, such as cooking or a particular game, you will likely be disappointed in that particular area of the book, because it is an overview and introduction. It is not an in depth analysis of the website, which as you may know is huge. But for someone who is simply looking to help their child and who hasn't already master every single in and out of the site, this is an excellent guidebook to the world of Webkinz. I'm glad I bought it.

  2. This is so not worth the money. You can get all of this info plus real time information off of several websites. the money you use to buy this could be another Webkinz.

  3. I can't believe how much you can do with this little virtual pet. Without this book, my son would have been just pushing around his pet in his virtual playroom.

    This is a well organized, easy to use guide to get you started on your own virtual adventure. I would highly recommend it.

  4. You would have to be and "Idiot" to think you need this book. Look at the website. Everything you need to know is there! All you need to pay for is the pet. Any updates are also listed in the site newspaper. Don't waste your money!!!! Seriously, if you can use a computer you will not need this.

1 comments about Pathfinder #2 Rise Of The Runelords: The Skinsaw Murders.
  1. Like others who are likely interested in this I mourned the loss of Dungeon Magazine, but I havet say that if Dungeon had to go to make room for Pathfinder then it was worth it. Pathfinder 2 continues the excellence established in Rise of the Runelords. There is more creative freedom and adventurous innovation displayed in this series than in any other d20 product I've ever read. They don't just make encounters difficult they make them interesting. These books add considerable flavor to tried and true monsters like goblins and ghouls and provide new ones that are equally compelling. Additionally the creative story telling and excellent adventure design makes Pathfinder easy to cannabalize for use in Non-Pathfinder campaigns. The city of Magnimar (presented in this book) will be appearing in the next adventure set in my homebrew campaign world. The only minor gripes I have are that some of the interior art is subpar (though some of it is excellent as well) and the map of Magnimar is mis-labelled making it confusing. However Paizo has made a corrected (and more detailed) version of the map available for free download so that gripe has been completely rectified. In general the creativity and quality writing found in the Pathfinder series overwhelms any flaws it might have.

4 comments about The New Complete Hoyle Revised.
  1. Sure you've been there the fight over how to play a particular game, or better yet the boredom on a rainy day when you've played all the Old Maid you can stomach. Whether you are looking to end a game of poker without bloodshed or want new ways to use that deck of cards Hoyle is the answer. Before you while away another boring day get cracking and secure a copy of Hoyle's latest.

  2. This book gives you all the things you need to know about card, board, and dice games such as craps, baggamon, and poker! These are some of the many great games you can learn about in The New Complete Hoyle Revised! Learn all about other games such as gin, chess, casino games, bridge, and all of our other treasured games of chance that we love! Take the games that you thought you hated and give 'em a go! Hoyle makes learning card, dice, and board games fun! There are adult chance and betting games to children's games that bring back memories of your days of charades and fun! Have a blast reading the book, and a better time gathering the guys and playing a round of poker or two. Or three. Or perhaps even five! For the kids, on long car trips, you may say "are we there yet?" Bring a deck of cards, a maximum of ten dice, and your Hoyle book, look up a dice game such as lair dice or a card game like solitare and your parents will be shocked to hear you say "were there already?" For the boring, rainy days, pull out a deck of cards, look up in your Hoyle book a game that you thought you would never learn to play, and learn! The day will whiz by while you take turns with your brother playing war! Ask your sister to roll the die and see about a seven at craps! See? Completely revised, updated, and expanded! It even says so on the cover! The authoritative guide to the official game rules of popular games of skill and chance!

  3. It is true. This book is THE authority when it comes to games of skill or chance, and even games that combine the two (like all games that mean anything to anyone). But this book is too authoritative, almost facistic in its clinging to the rules of each and every game. All games need to grow and expand (or contract) from their traditional settings. This philosophy is not, I suppose by definition, a part of this book. Otherwise ... yes, a perfect book. Of its type.

  4. More lurid books have I read,
    but that goes better unsaid.
    But still, just the same,
    these rules of the game
    is complete from alpha to zed.

    Stop arguments with your family. Checkers really does have rules. Learn if you must jump the other guy, if you must move the piece you touch, and precisely when a red queen can be placed on a black king.

    No one who plays games should be without "The New Complete Hoyle Revised." It was great 300 years ago (so I'm told) and is
    great now.
