  1. A fellow Scrabble player saw this book (which I have owned since 1987)and said she MUST have a copy! It has the best info for Scrabblers, both novices and old-timers, even including the complete list of acceptable two-letter words. I would like to give her a copy as a gift and hope it is available

  2. I received this book from a friend when it was first published. Having been a devotee of Scrabble for many years, I was amazed at how much I was able to learn from this book. Straight talk on strategy, word lists worth memorizing, combinations to save/dump, all without the pomposity of the author that accompanies many books. This one reveals a host of secrets that eluded me for years. Simply the best how-to book on the subject

  1. Masters Press Baseball Crosswords Volume 3 fell short of my expectations. I thought the book would have puzzles about baseball and the players of the past and present with stories mixed in. The book is made for the younger crowds ages 8 to 15.

While the puzzles are of good quality, they lack any real challenge and often they are there could be more clues. Each puzzle does talk about a major league team; provide you with basic information about the team and a listing of leaders over the past ten years.

I do like the idea that each team is given an exclusive puzzle. I also like the stories, but I fell that the author could have given each team it's own book. Also there is nothing about past players and for a baseball purest this is a major disappointment.

Price in the right range, this book would and will make an excellent gift for the young, aspiring ball player in your family. Overall the book is good, but definite improvements can be made.

  1. This book is clever, beautifully presented and lots of fun. Although a movie and crossword puzzle fan, I had never done or understood acrostics. The instruction here are clear and the puzzles, though challenging are doable. The quotes are entertaining and the clues bright and thought provoking. Give it a try.

  2. I had never done acrostics before, but now I'm hooked. These are interesting, challenging, clever, and fun. Give them a try!

  3. My family loves movies and acrostics, so this is the perfect puzzle book for us. Fortunately, we have a spread of ages, so what one person doesn't know, another might. And it's great fun to find that a clue, or even an entire quote, is from a favorite film. There's a nice mix of easy/hard, old/new, well-known/obscure, and Hollywood/foreign. The joy of acrostics is that they build momentum, so even if you know only three or four answers at the beginning, you can make educated guesses on the quote that often get you headed in the right direction in figuring out a difficult clue. We're eager for a second book from Peter Scher. Our only complaint is that the answers are too accessible; we quickly taped the back of the book shut when it arrived.

  4. Excellent - For people who love movies, this is addictive fun. More please!

  5. Since I do arcrostic puzzles daily I am in a good position to judge this item. I am delighted with it because I can sit down and stay with one and finish it within about 60 to 90 minutes. I find there is a flow. I struggled with the first two, but now they move well. Very satisfying. I don't understand the rating (star) system because hard or easy, I find them just a bit of a challenge. I chose the cinema over others because at least that is something I know about, but I am not really a movie buff, so I suppose others shouldn't be put off if they feel likewise. Hey, it keeps those brain cells on alert.

  1. I recently purchased this book, and can highly recommend it. I particularly enjoy it for traveling entertainment, because I can usually complete the puzzles without aid from a crossword puzzle dictionary, or help from the internet. That makes this ideal for keeping my load light! There are two sized puzzles in this book: 15 squares to the side (the size of a daily crossword in the newspaper) and 17 squares to the side (a little more challenging). The puzzles aren't too easy, but they aren't so difficult that they're frustrating--just hard enough to keep one interested!
