1 comments about Stanley Newman's Movie Mania Crosswords (Other).
- Even though the titles of the puzzles are titles of popular movies, it does little to exercise your movie trivia knowledge. The clues and answers have nothing to do with movies, except for very rare occasions. Furthermore, in the 50 puzzles featured, the same clues appear in one puzzle right after another. Of course, it definately helps you with the other puzzles. If you know one answer, you'l be able to do all the puzzles.

2 comments about Simon and Schuster Crossword Puzzle Book #235: The Original Crossword Puzzle Publisher (Simon & Schuster Crossword Puzzle Books).
- This is a fly through crossword puzzle. It is both fun and easy. The print is not tine and not huge. Ideal for light fun.
- I bought this and two others and all three came with the wrong answers in the back. I was very disappointed.

2 comments about The New York Times Lazy Sunday Crossword Puzzle Omnibus: 200 Puzzles for a Perfect Weekend.
- I love crossword puzzles and these have not been disappointing. For those who need immediate gratification, I'd look elsewhere. These do take me some time.
- I love crossword puzzles, especially Sunday puzzles. I have bought a lot of Sunday newspaper puzzle books, but this one was not enjoyable to me. I found it to be very hard and frustrating. I threw it out.

2 comments about Random House Year Round Crossword Omnibus (Newsday).
- This is a fairly prototypical book of collected puzzles, and as such, is fine. There is certainly nothing wrong with the work Stanley Newman has pulled together here. What is not fine, though, is the inexplicable use of mass-bound pages in this omnibus product, making it virtually impossible for the user to easily fold back the book pages to the puzzle s/he is on, or to hold the book open to the puzzle page s/he is on if s/he wants to do a puzzle lying down, for example. All RH puzzle books should use the spiral-bound format of its other puzzle books that include folded leafs on front and back covers wherein the user can mark the page one is working on, as well as the solutions page for that puzzle (not that anyone ever sneaks a peak, of course!). Unless you do your crosswords sitting down with the book on a table or other hard surface, and you don't mind having to hold open pages while you try to work the puzzles, I don't recommend this book. I do mind, and that is why I do not recommend this book. Random House Year Round Crossword Omnibus (Newsday)
- The year round compilation makes for a thick book and therefore not as easy to stick in my purse, or to even open or tear a page from. I find I prefer the smaller versions.

1 comments about Super 30-Minute Crosswords (Crossword).
- Most crossword puzzles are the creation of a single person, and like all of us that person has strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, when a puzzle is created by a team, it is a near certainty that the quality of the puzzle will be higher. The seventy one crossword puzzles in this collection were developed by the CrossSynergy syndicate, a group of top puzzle constructors who create puzzles for the Internet. When a puzzle is created, it is passed through a peer review process, which invariably improves it.
Additional parameters of these puzzles are that they are "designed" to be completed in thirty minutes and each has a theme for the larger words. In tackling these puzzles, I found that thirty minutes was not enough time for me, generally because I got stuck on the last ten or so words. The theme was occasionally helpful, although in most cases I either got the word from the clue only or found that I was stuck, even when thinking along the lines of the theme. Collaboration in any profession always improves the product and you can see it in these puzzles. They are challenging, yet doable, and I found myself unwittingly competing with myself trying to finish them in the advertised thirty minutes.
