- I'm a crossword fanatic and was turned on to cryptic or "British" crosswords a few years ago. They add a new twist to the concept, which is enjoyable, and adds a great deal more challenge, however, not enough of them are published in the States. Most come from England and some of the references in the clues are rather obscure, answers usually in British slang or referring to British persons. I have had to cheat a lot (look at the answers), and sometimes I still can't figure out how the clue refers to that particular answer. I'd try one of the Mensa cryptic crossword books (they have 2 now), or the one published by the New Yorker magazine. It's nice to have a challenge, but when its too hard, its just frustrating. I don't think I will buy another edition by this publisher.

5 comments about The Boston Globe Sunday Crossword Omnibus, Volume 2 (Boston Globe).
- Half the puzzles in this attractive book are by Henry Hook, a fine constructor, and half the puzzles are by that dynamic duo of crossword puzzles - Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon. Cox and Rathvon are, in my opinion, the best and most consistent constructors in the business and their puzzles are always a delight.
- Love these puzzles from Boston Globe. Not difficult, but fun to solve. I'm hoping to find something from Henry Hook which is a little more challenging.
- I've always enjoyed the Globe Sunday puzzles...this is a hefty collection but the binding is such that the book can't be laid flat and thus the only realistic way of doing puzzles on the left-hand pages is to tear them out of the book. The collections with spiral binding are way better.
- Wonderful. Would like to see them come out with just HH as the others are more warm up level.
- I love Boston Globe crosswords but these larger volumes are printed on paper that is too soft for pencils. One has to press hard to see the writing and then it is visible on the puzzle on the next page. The book is also glue-bound rather than comb-bound, so the pages won't stay open easily.

- Just enough challenge to keep one interested, but not difficult enough to frustrate. The perfect little book for relaxing.
- I finished all 75 puzzles. It took me 6 months because I keep it in the bathroom. Just ordered 3 more books.
- I wanted a smaller sized book in both thickness and overall to travel with and take to the lake. This is perfect.

- You'll never again spend your time working the average mundane crossword puzzle after you've tried one of Merl Reagle's! The clues may be straightforward or a bit devious; either way, they are totally fair and you will often find yourself smiling as you get that "aha!" feeling. THEN, as the clever theme reveals itself to you, the real fun begins. You will laugh out loud with delight! I don't know how Merl pulls this off in puzzle after puzzle, but I'm glad I found them.
- What fun! Now I don't have to wait for the Sunday paper to enjoy Merl's talent and humor. I love taxing my brain with his puzzles.

- I bought this for my mother who is an avid crossword fan. She reports that she is really enjoying it. It is hard enough to challenge her, but still doable.
