3 comments about John Patrick's Craps.
- This tired and worn out REPRINT of John Patrick's earlier edition has been given a new cover (A dust cover wouldve been Cheaper, John) and gathered off the bargain bin floor in the hopes that P.T. Barnum's crowd will bite again....I can only assume that John Patrick is institutionalized and not in his right mind, thus having no control over the CLUNK-GRIND of the Reprint Mill.
- John is not a writer writing about craps. He is a professional gambler (he says so) writing about craps. This is no scholarly tome, but a nitty-gritty, name-calling, book with some hard truths in it. John will describe your methods of play and then will call you what you are: idiot, dork, etc. When you get past being insulted, and rightly so, he will show you what not to do and what to do to win. That is his writing goal: for you to win! I've collected many books on craps. This book is one of the three books I'll ever need on craps. (The others are John's Advanced Craps and Scoblete's Golden Touch Dice Control.) You can find this book under several different covers, but the hard truth is the same under all of them. When you get tired of losing, buy these books.
- I was intimidated by the game of Craps, until I came upon a book by
John Patrick at the library. His way of playing made a lot more sense
to me than the others. I wasn't about to risk even a small amount of
money on a game I didn't understand. His book walked me through the
types of wagers, the ones he felt were good bets, as well as the ones he thought
were the risky, and poor wagers. His betting strategies
were explained and very helpful. I was able to buy in, and play, with my small bankroll
with a measure of confidence. I also used his advice on discipline and
walked away a winner. I now own several of his books and the ones on
the game of craps have a high recommendation from me.
Now I don't win everytime, but when using the advice he has given, I
win more often than not, and I NEVER lose my shirt, and I ALWAYS have fun.

- One of the best overall reference books on craps, as worthwhile for the more advanced player as it is for the beginner. No serious craps library should be without it.
- If you have no idea how to play craps then i will say as all other books it explains the basic bets etc. The problem this book had, along with many other craps books i have bought is that 70% of the book is basic craps primer, 10% are about stories of big rolls, 10% is about comps and casino management and about 5 pages are about actual strategy to use while playing the game.
Drumroll please, the big strategy that will make you tons of money can be summarized in 3 sentences.
bet the pass line with double odds. After each Pass win without a loss, press the bet up. At the end it has you betting something like $500 on the pass and 1000 on the odds bet. here is the problem:
In order to get to that level the shooter, get this, has to make something liek 11 points. I have seen some shooters make 5 or 6 points but 11 is very very rare.
This book in a sentence:
After each pass with double odds win press your pass and odds bet. if you lose on 3 shooters go home.
- I became acquainted with Silberstang's writing way back in the 1980s and his basic ideas do hold up. You will not really learn an advantage method in this book, but a betting system that does cut the house edge to its minimum. Silberstang's writing is crisp and clear, his experiences show that he is a player, and his knowledge of the game for random players is top notch.
This is a good book to start your craps playing career.
Frank Scoblete: Author of Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution!
- It has really helped me understand the game. I was playing it all wrong. Haven't tried the "Come" stragedy, but will try it soon.
- Okay, I had played craps before but I was not an expert by any means. I understood certain basics but wanted to learn more, and even a system or strategy. I picked this book and it provided everything I needed. The background is well described and most importantly points out the bets that a standard user should stay away from (i.e., the bets in which the odds are not in the players favor). The strategy presented (for playing with the dice) is very comprehensive but easily described. Personally, I wanted something simple that I could remember in any state of mind. :) Regardless, this system single-handedly paid for my trip to Vegas for a buddy's wedding. I never played high-roller tables, nor did I make extreme bets (in my case). The system allowed me to maximize my profits and minimize my losses while the table was "hot". If you are interested in learning craps and using an easy system, this is the book for you.

5 comments about Craps: Take the Money and Run.
- I bought this book while I was leaving Las Vegas with a couple friends who were "knowledgable" about the game. I read it non-stop for 4 hours on the flight home. What I found out amazed me, not the least of which was that my friends had a lot to learn.
The book provides an understanding of the basic game, all the bets on the table, and a winning strategy that works. Since reading the book, 3 times cover to cover, and playing on my PC, I've played a couple times in Las Vegas, and both times walked away a winner. I fully realize this was part skill, and part luck. But without the book, I would have not had the knowledge to even begin to play smart. Buy the book - you won't regret it. It provides a strategy for the long haul, not just one lucky experience. It explains everything. And the next time you are at the tables, you'll find out just how silly everyone else is.
- Take The Money and Run is a great introduction to craps. The book explains the basic game play as well as each of the bets commonly available on the layout.
The book is a little less than coherent, however. It is divided into separate chapters, each covering some aspect of the game. But the chapters don't bind their content well enough to let the reader quickly learn the game (or that particular aspect of the game) in a single read.
I frequently find myself wishing I could remember a particular bit of advice, only to have to search the book for the tidbit by reading cover to cover.
The author points out which bets are good and which are bad, and does so for almost all the bets on the table. Further, he presents a few schemes for playing -- simple methods you can use to play along at the table instead of relying on hunches and guesses. This is invaluable inforamtion, as many of the most popular bets on the table are some of the worst!
In both cases -- but particularly for the discussion of schemes -- the author doesn't discuss the math involved in figuring the house advantage. Instead, he simply presents a number. I think that stepping through the computations would help readers develop better insight to the game and the different systems.
Despite these shortcomings, this book is still highly recommendable and helped me become a competant intermediate craps player after years of "hiding" at the blackjack tables.
- The first 5-chapters were enough to earn me $100 in 10-minutes at a San Juan Casino. It worked like clockwork, almost magic. And I did just what the book said: "I took my money and ran". Looking forward to trying my luck again.
- This book will be your foundation for developing your method of play and money management. It has descriptions for playing simple and advanced methods. You should still buy another book or two to really see other view points. This should be the first book you buy to learn craps.
- I purchased this bookd a while back, and read only the first few pages about the rules of the game, before going to Atlantic City (the first few chapters take about twenty minutes to read and absorb). With it, I knew enough to enjoy the game with my $50. About a year later I went back to Atlantic City, and once again read a few more pages of the book (it is really a quick read, but I spent most of my two hour drive talking and hanging out with my friends), using what it taught me, I more than doubled what I was gambiling within an hour before I had to meet up with my wife and our friends(and considering it was only $50 dollars at a $10 table, that is pretty da** good)! My friends and I are planning on going again in a few months, and this time, I plan on finishing the book (which, even at a slow pace, should only take an hour or two to read from cover to cover) and I'm sure even if I don't walk away with a signigicant amount of winnings, that if I follow the book, I will DEFINITELY have fun, be able to stay and enjoy gambiling at the craps table for awhile, and even in the worse case scenerio, walk away from the table feelign good and satisfied.
This book is a MUST for those who want to learn to play craps and how to best succeed and enjoy it. However, if you don't know anything about craps, trying to read the entire book may be to much to swallow all at once, so I would suggest reading the first few chapter, and then either going to a casino and watching for a little bit, or go online and try a free website where they don't use real money, but you can play "mock" crap games like one would play a computer checkers game verus the computer.
I don't know how much this book will help advance players, but like I said, if you never played, and just want to learn enough to enjoy the game and have the best shot of walking away with some money, BUY THIS BOOK!!!

- The greatest craps book ever written interms of how to get an edge over the house, including the story of the Captain, who just rolled 147 numbers!!!! You can read about this great roll at golden touch craps web site under the world records. The five steps to advantage play in this book can make you a winner.
- This Craps title isn't worth your time. It's full mostly of stories about craps players, and vague advice on the potential of dice control. The centerpiece of the book is the highly touted '5-count', which is nothing more than a betting system that gives you no chance of diminishing the house edge. Get Sharpshooter's book instead.
- This book is a masterpiece of craps writing and the five step method is a winning method over the casinos.
You will learn:
How to control the dice.
How to bet on yourself.
How to use the 5-Count to bet on random rollers.
How to get more comps than you actually deserve.
How to get a monetary edge.
The book has a great section on darkside playing too.
The chapter on the Captain, his complete life story, is facinating. This is the father of the dice control movement and Scoblete really lets us meet him in a close way.
This book, as all Scoblete books, is well written and loaded with information.
- Scoblete has written about the mysterious "Captain," his patented "five count" method for qualifying shooters, and the essence of dice control elsewhere. But this is the first book where he puts them altogether in a five-step system for advantage play. I have all of Scoblete's books and this is one of my favorites.
- I have had this book for awhile and re-read it last night.. Overall, this book is a disappointing read. The only worthwhile material in the book is the 5-count and his section on crap comps which I thought could have been expanded. The rest is stories and added technical fluff. 5-count is the key in his system and if you do not know what it is, I would pick up one of his books for the concept and knowledge... just not this one.
I would recommend 'Winning Craps for the Serious Player' J. Edward Allen. Very good book.

5 comments about Craps For The Clueless: A Beginner's Guide to Playing and Winning (The Clueless Guides).
- This book doesn't really have much of interest in it. For just a little bit more money you can buy "American Mensa Guide to Casino Gambling" which has a lot of good information.
- I have always been intimidated by craps because I knew NOTHING about it. I found this book very helpful in describing the odds and protocol. When I used the advice at the table, dealers talked to me as if I were a professional gambler, and by playing conservatively and consistantly, I won money at the table when everyone around me was losing. I love craps!
- Mr. Patrick's book "Craps for the clueless" has allowed me to win at craps almost everytime I play.
Yes there has been days when I violated the rules he has layed down and went home a loser but usually under $100 bucks. I just got back from Lake Tahoe and took them for $170.00 large. ha Just learn the place bets of putting your money on 6 and 8. that is all you need. Of course a 2-way hard 6 is nice when you are winning and remember to give the bar babe at least a $5 dollar chip when she comes by with your drink, you cheap ass. Ty
- John Patrick is dead on. I love this book because it explains a professional gambler's betting strategy and why in terms understood by a beginner. I knew very little about craps except that I liked the energy of the game. The book was great for explaining the types of bets and the pros & cons of each. The style was honest and very enjoyable. Do not expect to make the big hit with the methods in this book. The numerous small hits may not be as exciting but really add up.
I read the book, downloaded some casino software, and became disciplined with the strategies on my PC. Weeks later I went to Vegas to try my variation of Twenty Two Inside. At the end of the trip my small winnings and ultra-conservative style added up to $350 and I was (very very) lucky enough to take money from all seven casinos I played. I could sense that the macho players were mocking me when I stated 'Take Me Down'. Of course, a couple of rolls later the 7 popped up and they watched the dealer take their money. John was dead on about this too.
- Not the most elequent writer I've ever read, but if your looking for the basics of Craps and some great strategy that will help you avoid losing and generate reasonable winnings...this is the book!

5 comments about Get the Edge at Craps (Scoblete Get-the-Edge Guide).
- This text is an excellent one for anyone interested in dice control. It explains all the basics of betting craps, but the real meat is the second part. A complete explanation of controlled shooting is given, along with a training schedule, statistical tests, and advanced dice sets. A MUST READ for anyone attempting to beat the game of craps.
- The insular world of "dice control" is divided into several bitterly opposed camps. Who knows what they disagree with each other about, but believe me, you don't want to get into the middle of it. This offering by the "Sharpshooter" comes from the Scoblete camp. I enjoyed the book. I found it to be a good overall introduction to dice-setting and so-called rhythmic rolling. Recommended.
- The book is just bragging about his ability and trying to convince you to take the seminar to actually learn "the secrets". Don't waste your money.
- This book is alright and teaches what you want to know but I recommend "Golden Touch Dice Control" over this one. They basically talk about all the same information except this book goes into more detail about math formulas which I really don't care about, I just want to learn how to throw the dice.
Also I don't recommend getting both books, pick one or the other as they contain basically identical information.
Just one is written by the best out there and this one is written by the guy that proved it all. I thought I'd prefer this book over the other one for that reason but in the end I liked Golden Touch better.
- This is a fantastic learning tool for vocabulary, odds, percentages, setting the dice, gripping the dice, throwing the dice and betting strategies.

5 comments about Beat the Craps out of the Casinos.
- The 5-count contents is less than 1/8 of the book. The rest are redundancy of author's other books. I do not see the logic in the 5-count except to prolong playing time for casino handout.
- I started playing craps this past year and really enjoy playing the game. Naturally, I wanted to develop my skills and use my new fascination to make a little money, opposed to placing wild bets that seldomly paid out. I purchased this book to attempt to beat the system with mathematical odds. While this book does touch on the mathetical odds of the game the strategy recommended by the author appears to be based on superstition, rather than mathematics. As such, I believe the Supersystem to be inherently flawed. I would not recommend employing this system in the Casino if you want to make money. Good luck and happy gambling.
- In reading this book I found absolutely nothing that would be anything close to a winning system. The "Five Count" and all variations, when tested at length is merely a way of limiting your losses in hopes of staying at the table longer and hitting a hot roll before you run out of money. As with most craps books this one may teach you to manage your money and remind you about discipline.
- This book is not for newbies! Frank Scoblete teaches a new method for craps that I just could not understand. I was looking for something more basic.
- This is a great book for beginners. It gives you an overview of the game and the different bets out there. It also lets you know what bets to stay away from unless you want to leave completely broke. I've tried the 5 count in this book and I believe that it is a genius way of qualifying shooters. I used to have a big problem with shooters craping out right away and loosing me a lot of money. It has definitely saved a lot of money on my recent craps trips. The super system is a little more complicated, but I've made my own little modified version of this system that works better for me. The only downside of these two systems is that you do need to be a little more patient when utilizing them. I'd say that this is the only book that beginners need to read, unless they want to get into dice control.

5 comments about John Patrick's Advanced Craps.
- As always, Patrick does a great job with his money discipline in this one. He reminds me of alot of high level money managers in Wall Street. The upside always takes care of itself, when you take care of the downside. Great book.
- This guy is a machine in writing books, and giving new logic and money discipline. I have about everything he's written, and always pick up new things in each. He throws in alot of stories as well about what it's like in his professional world of gambling. It must be something to have his skills and mindset when you walk into the room. Never hesitate in buying a Patrick book.
- I have read this book several times. I have tested all of the systems in the book at great length and all have had the same results. All of the sytems and methods outlined in the book are, in the long run, losers. The best thing that can be accomplished (and not by all the systems) is that you learn how to manage your money and to leave the table if you should have a short term win. The newer books on craps have been revised to include more disclosures, but all in all this one has no more value than any other I have read. If any of the methods outlined in the book actually made money Las Vegas would be a ghost town.
- If you understand the basics of the game but are still looking for a way to win on a consistent basis - John Patrick is your man. John's theories are simple and straight forward. You have to have near-perfect knowledge of the game in order to win consistently. You need sufficient bankroll to have a shot. You should approach the game with a theory or plan for HOW you are going to play. Set win objectives and loss limits. And have the discipline to walk with a small win. Will you do what it takes to win? Probably not. And according to John, that makes you a dork. Hey - get over it. After all, he's probably right.
On a personal basis, I've known John for about ten years now. He's a class guy and one of the few in this business who actually does the things he writes about. This book is a "must have" for serious crapsters.
- I read most of John Patricks books and they all are well written, he leans very hard on money management and discipline. If you enjoy leaving the casino with your money and some of theres this book is an excellent investment. I've used many straight forward betting systems of Johns and have had good returns. He really leans on Place betting, taking several hits and taking them down. I've down very well with that system. You will too.

- I have a degree in Mathematics. Believe it or not, for a whopping $4.95, this book is the ABSOLUTE BEST on the subject. Teaches you everything you need to know -- concisely -- and LEAVES OUT A BUNCH OF CRAP YOU DO NOT.
I am dead serious. This book is ALL you need to play craps "right." (Pun intended.)
- Nice pocket size--very direct to the point explanation of craps. Going to Vegas, gambling cruise or want to learn the basics of craps?-this book is for you..
- Basil Nestor is a fine writer who really knows his subject and this book demonstrates that. Nestor explains clearly and concisely which are the best bets, how to manage your money, and how to have the best chance to win at the game if you are not a golden touch craps dice controller.
Nestor is one of the new breed of gambling writers who has a flair for language and knows how to instruct at the same time. This is a thoroughly worthwhile book and one I highly recommend.
Frank Scoblete: Author of Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution!
- If you are going to Vegas just to have fun, play the tables and maybe win some cash you will not be disaapointed here. I read this 3 times over a weekend and on the flight to Vegas. Did I win money? Hell, no but that was my fault (read - too many drinks). What I can say is this book allowed me to play intelligently and not look like a fool - which is about all you can ask for.

5 comments about Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution! How to Win at Craps Using a Controlled Dice Throw!.
- While the substance and advice is excellent, there is an investment required in reading time, to be spent digging out working proceedures.
A good portion of this book is spent glorifing other shooters, as well as the author.
- I like this book, it had the information I wanted to learn. I also bought "Get the Edge at Craps by Sharpshooter" because I always like to get several opinions on the same subject to make up my own mind on what to believe. They both contain basically the same information except "Get the Edge" goes into the mathematical formulas of physics a lot deeper. I like the writing style better in this book.
It boils down to this, if you want to learn how to throw the dice and learn from the best out there, get this book.
If you want to impress your friends by punching numbers in your calculator to show the probabilities of physics then get the other one.
In my opinion you only need one book and this is it. Plus it goes over all the rules and betting so you don't need another book on learning how to play either.
This is the only book you need on Craps.
- I blazed through this book in a day. It's a solid read, but definitely a little longer than it needs to be, as a lot of stuff becomes redundant as you move along. I also thought the learning sections could've been organized a little better, but admittedly, I may just be splitting hairs with that one (I think my conclusion is I would've enjoyed the DVD more - except it's really expensive.
Anyone who is reading this book with hopes of becoming an instant craps whiz better look elsewhere. This book preaches hard work, focus, meditation, among many other things. If you truly believe that this works (I'm a bit skeptical myself, but hey, that's why Frank would call me a "Random Shooter!"), then this will give you all the tools you need to go forth. But if you're sincerely interested in "breaking Vegas" via craps, then this book will show you how to get started.
- My cousins and I were at a casino in Tunica losing big time. He usually has a good run so I was betting away on his rolls. He would pick up the dice, blow on them, say a prayer, kiss his nuckles, and go through a whole ritual before shooting. He's what Frank would call a "gambler." One of the dealers asked if we had ever heard of the Dominator, neither of us had. He said, "try reading the Dominator before coming down here again." I read this book on a Thursday and went to the casino that Friday night. Did I try to become an overnight controlled shooter? Heck no, I stood at the table for about 20 minutes until I found someone that was. I walked away happy that night.
I believe in the techniques, and have been practicing them myself, but have yet to try my novice skills at the casino. I'm ordering a makeshift golden touch craps table that I found on Ebay.
- It's a good read but I've tried to do the dice setting but yet to see it work. well written book though.
