- The basic idea is that if a contract slips through because of a defensive error, the chanses are the player making the "last mistake" may not have been the one who made the first and critical error.
In each chapter the author covers different ways defenders make a mistake that influences further play. For example - pard leads against 3NT into the teeth of a good suit for declarer. You might not even want to bother playing your Jack, and insted play a lower card, to discourage pard, if this wont cost a trick. Or if you led what turns out to be the wrong suit, try discarding the top of the suit so pard can see you are lacking the A and it's not going anywhere. Another example is taking charge. If you know what to do DO IT. Ruff pards winner. Cover his king with your Ace. Whatever it takes. Don't rely on pard interpreting a signal if he might go wrong.
Good selection of topics. I rate the book 3 1/2 stars. Its aimed at Advanced Intermediates.
The main problem is based on the bidding, some of the suggested plays would not be obvious. They work on THOSE specific hand picked hands, but would not work on slightly different hands. What I'm getting at is the hands could have been better. The solution would be more correct, based on the bidding and waht was already played.
The book could have been a lot better but its still decent.
