1. If you're looking to start a trivia night in your area, its a good reference book to start with. The beginning is well explained, and the questions are pretty good but dated at this point. I did find a couple of inaccuracies too, so best to watch out for that.
   
   I also could do without the recipes that take up the final 1/3 of the book. The purchaser (you) really can't use them for any meaningful purpose if you're looking for info on how to run a trivia night.

Improve your card play. Improve your partnership relationship. Have more fun. Maybe even win more often (or at least make more opponents work for a good round against you).



2. "Marty Sez" again proves that mad scientist Marty Bergen knows his Standard American as well as anyone. Novice to intermediate players will find a wealth of tips here. The only problem is that the format that Marty uses (readers of "Points Schmoints" will realize this was inspired by Harvey Penick's "Little Red Book" of golf) often forces important lessons into too little space, leaving the reader with the feeling that there should be more discussion. Nevertheless, a book well worth reading for the I/N crowd.

2. Good examples of how to play the cards in order to take the tricks at the end of the play of each hand. Just reading it should help to develop the children's thinking skills. And maybe they will someday learn to be great bridge players.



3. Want to learn how to play bridge? If, like me, you don't have a clue, then this book could help enlighten you before you next gather with the old ladies at the bridge group (even if it is aimed at children). It is basically a series of puzzles to lead the reader through a play of the card game, and it sets out the rules of bridge at the start. The puzzles begin quite simply, and get progressively more difficult through to the end. Hints are provided on each page and for each puzzle, to help the reader on their way, and the answers are given in the back of the book.
   
   Aimed at older children rather than younger ones (who may find the lay out too lacking in colour and illustrations) my 12 year old son enjoyed trying out the first few puzzles of the book. His patience did wear a little thin, however, as he wanted different 'sets' of games that he could complete, rather than each puzzle being a play stage of one game. The book would be great if produced as a colourful version, in a more child-like format, to attract a wider group of young readers.
   
   If the aim is to teach a child about the game of bridge, then 'Bridge Puzzles for Children' helps in a very practical and easy way, illustrating many of the dilemmas that a player in a real game would come across, and developing skills that would need to be utilised. I would describe the book as methodical, rather than 'fun', but excellent reading for children who favour learning in a logical way. However, even for an adult, the layout could be improved.
