  1. This product is not for the beginner. It has very poor basic learning information and they refer you to an extremely boring text file to learn the basic. The instructions on how to use it well non existant!. You have to fumble around trying to use the product. They give no grammer skills at all. I would not recommend this product to anyone

  2. ....The software itself has not seen much action because everytime I try to use it, I get terribly bored. It is not too encompassing for a beginner. Perhaps with some knowledge of Italian the program would be of more use (?). The phrases that you begin with are not really relevant nor are they interesting and I find that I am still looking for that "right" software that will hold my hand through the basics.

  3. This computer program looks as though some random guy just through a whole bunch of italian words on the software, got a woman's voice on there, added... fonts/sounds, and through in a box with a cover i am sure cost more than the program! Getting a book would be better, but I have to give some credit for the few vocab. words I have learned, otherwise, this program is put into two words!...

  4. My 50 year old husband decided he wanted to try and learn to speak some Italian. I bought Italian now for Christmas and he's really enjoying it. However, I was shocked to find my three sons, ages, 11, 10 & 8 also love it. It's turned into a family fun time trying to see who can enunciate the words better on the meter scale.

  5. Hello,

I have been speaking Italian for several years and I have lived the past two years in Rome and Milano and I RECOMMEND ANYONE WANTING TO LEARN ITALIAN TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROGRAM....

I bought this program in the states to teach my girlfriend....what a waste of money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to re-emphasize what others have said in that this doesnt cover any material that teaches you how to speak italian!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was shocked at this program, as it doesnt even introduce (or contain) the conjugations for the verbs essere and avere....as almost every other piece of instructional material on italian covers right in the beginning as its vital for italian.........and it doesnt end there as the help file contains many errors in the verb conjugations....How can this be!!!!!!!!!!!!

The video which for those that have no other way to hear italian might be good....well, NO! First off, the way these people speak is almost funny...as they talk very exaggerated and I dread to think of people trying to copy this accent to speak italian as you would seem like a joke in italy....not to mention that this video is quite old (they dont even pay with euro etc...) and it doesnt cover anything of the material it presents....

I laughed when I saw someone write a review with boun lavoro (Italians dont say this BTW).....and it shows me even more how this product can only teach people improper italian!!!!!!!!

And really I tried to teach my new girlfriend italian from this, and I just couldnt find anyway to begin here for her...even the fundamental parts present very little information....its all just thrown together....

I checked the fundamental section and the seventh word mountain (montagna) is present with a example phrase

le montagne sono coperte di neve
    (which is translated properly to)
the mountains are covered with snow...

here already it presents the passive voice of coprire,

The verb "coprire"in this case is passive and female

    Io sono coperta
    Tu sei coperta
    Egli รจ coperta
    Noi siamo coperte
    Voi siete coperte
    LORO SONO COPERTE

check the software for why the passive voice is here in this manner anywhere in this program and you will be left out to dry, yet they quiz you on this later in the exercises like the crosswords

le montange sono ******** di neve

god this is just terrible to think that peole are memorizing the word coperte (covered) here already in the beginning without the knowledge of how or why it is...and they will never learn from this program either as its not in here!!!!!!!

This software as a way to learn its somewhat criminal to me!!!!!!!!

THIS IS MORE THAN CRAP....I CANT SEE HOW ANYWAY CAN LEARN PROPER ITALIAN WITH THIS.....

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I really liked the interactive part of the cd. Makes you actually learn the words via recognition. I have not been able to find any other software that teaches this way. The draw back with this title is how few words are available... I have been searching for upgrades additional cds of words but... so far they dont exist.... great way to learn limited by what is available.

  2. I'm still lucky that Italians seem to speak english and like doing so.

The CD did help me understand more and if I had been a good student I think It would have been quite successful.

  3. I bought this as my first "cd rom software" to learn italian. I had started learning very basic italian through books.

The first CD is interesting.. as it gives you a menu of different subjects.. and with each subject, you can learn some words. Then you are tested on these words.

The second CD is ok, but i found that there was a whole step between CD 1 and CD 2. In CD 2, the host talks in italian and i could barely understand what she/he was saying. (i had to use a dictionnary for some parts)

I give it only 3 stars because of that step and because of the limited number of words and sentences in both CD's.. i figure that more could have probably been on those CDs. It's a good start, but now i'm looking for a full program on CD rom.

  4. I found this cd very helpful. It makes learning fun

  5. I was a language teacher for 17 years- Spanish being my mother language- and I have a degree in psycholinguistics. My excellent teachers taught me two fundamental things concerning laguage teaching:

    1) Words have to be used in phrases
    2) Phrases only acquire a real meaning when used within a context or specific situation.

This means that, without a context and/or situation(story, situation, conversation, paragraph, letter, etc) words and phrases are almost meaningless and/or useless.

What is the use of, for instance, knowing how to say "cat" in italian or in any other language for that matter? As an isolated word, it will help us achieve no communication goals. What is the use of leaning how to say "I like cats" in italian? Unless one intends to go around uttering isolated phrases (I like cats, I like cats, I like cats) like a zombee, these are also useless.

What is really useful, what we all need to learn if we want to speak ANY language, is the ability to maintain a short, MEANINGFUL conversation. (I love cats. Oh,do you? Yes, I have three. Oh, I don't have any cats but I have two dogs. etc, etc)

This is precisely what these "people" from Euro Method {Who are they after all??} seem not to know and, believe me, if they have not learnt this, they are NOT QUALIFIED TO SELL ANY METHOD TO ANYONE.

There are no good or bad language students. There are only good and bad methods. When a language method uses a MEANINGFUL APPROACH, and presents language items WITHIN A MEANINGFUL, NATURAL, USEFUL CONTEXT, then almost everybody will learn. Some will learn faster than others, but everyone will achieve their goal: learn a foreign language as naturally as possible.

In real life we do not use isolated words or isolated phrases. Every word and every phrase needs a very specific context and this is what this AWFUL "method" fails to provide.

There is a FANTASTIC method - ("Get into French" and "Get into Spanish" by the BBC and Cambridge University)- to learn French and Spanish. Unfortunately they do not have it for Italian. Otherwise I would highly recommend it to anyone.

  1. It may be a little more expensive than other language software, but I think it is well worth the extra cost. The total immersion method may seem a little intimidating, but you will be surprise at how quickly you learn as opposed to a memorization technique.

  2. My kids, 7 and 9 years old, are addicted to learning Italian using the Rosetta Stone system. After a year of trying traditional methods (workbooks, audio tapes and videos - all for children)without much interest on their part ("It's too much like school!" my seven year old complained)I was at a loss until a friend recommended the system to me. We tried the free demo CD (available at Rosetta's website) and I was delighted to see my kids enjoying the games AND spouting Italian words and phrases. We ordered Rosetta Stone Italian Level 1 Win/Mac Personal Edition from Amazon and now after just four weeks of daily five minute lessons (sometimes they play for a half hour) we are having mini Italian conversations. I am pleased that my kids enjoy the program and that they are learning the language without their mother nagging them. Che bello!

  3. Like some other programs, you have to guess the meaning of the pictures, it is fine with sample pictures but with more complicate situations, people guess differently, so they suppose to speak different words?

If it had pictures and words, include dictionary and explanations, that would be perfect.

  4. This is the first time I tried to learn any language! Being Italian I had a very keen interest in this language and was scared. I started and it was helpful, interesting and I was able to go back and go forward as I felt I needed. I often want to go back and review from the beginning and I am able to do this. The pictures, the written words, and the voice is all so helpful.

  5. I knew some italian, but needed to refresh my knowledge! This is by far the best product! I would absolutely recomend the Rosetta Stone!

  1. This is the worst product I have wasted money on yet. Most of the program had errors. You had better know a little about computers WHEN you want to remove it. The format is sub-par. The extra disks are fairly worthless. DO NOT WASTE your money. GO with the Pimsleur or living language courses. This one is not only a joke, but it will put you off from learning Litaliano. I dont write reviews, but this product angered me so much I had too. Too bad there is not a 0 star.

  2. This product is ideal for someone that wants to potentially go to Italy and not cause an internation incident by offending the entire country or, more likely, impress a date at a local restaurant. The interactive format helps you retain a lot of words and phrases in a short period of time. I would recommend it to anyone that thinks Italian is a beautiful language but doesn't have the time to learn it. It can be done!

  3. Ok I'll make it short and clear: DO NOT BUY IT.
It's a waste of time and money.
it doesn't have a continuos course, and they don't teach you usefull sentenses.
I'm still looking for a good software, but this I know, this one sucks very much
Oh and the dictionary is terrible too, 'cause when u wanna know how u pronounce a word in italian, it says that this feature is only available in english. But I already know how to pronounce in english, it's the italian I'm learnin.
And it doesn't even help you build phrases.

  4. It is advertised that the method of learning a language through this program is the way you learned as a child. I don't like I learned English from watching game shows. The first is fine but the second is, uhh, I don't know what to call it. It didn't teach a thing. I had to do some studying on the side to use it. I still didn't learn a thing. The second disk repeats the first disk's information in a more complicated fashion! I recommend purchasing one the old Berlitz books for learning Italian or any other language for that matter.

  5. How horrible!!! All I can do is go to Italy for a week and say words like yellow corn and ask where the bank is "Dove' la banca?" If I was asked a question or wanted to converse about flowers I couldn't because well the disks don't even teach you how to say flower. No sentence building, no basics even to learn when to use il, lo or la. Don't even ask about the other disks because it just gets worse. Only two teach the very simple words and they speak so fast you don't learn correct pronounciation. Save your money and go buy an Italian text book and do the homework. I realy wished I would have researched before buying this product.

  1. After all reviews showed this product to be the best there is, I am thoroughly disappointed. I am a beginner, and this product is entirely awful for beginners. There is no sense of any progress, and this program is for people who already have an active understanding of the language. Do not waste your money if you don't know the language. Terrible product.

  2. I wanted to learn Italian, as I still have family there and wanted to be able to speak a little when I visit them.
Then, I searched for the best software as I know I wanted to use my computer to learn, as it seemed to me the most promising tool. After reviews on some websites, and asking a free demo CD of TeLL me More Italian to their toll free number, comparing it to others, I decided to buy TeLL me More. I found that this software is really helping me, even beyond my expectations...
I am really enjoying learning Italian, which is surprising as it has been so long I am done with school...There are a lot of different activities and basically everything you need to learn Italian. I like the immersion method as it reminded me my visit to Italy about 10 years ago: at first, you listen to words, sentences, look at the translations, to memorize them, and then you can actually speak.

  3. This program may not be for everyone. It is a total immersion approach which asks the student to jump right in start speaking immediately. I studied on my own going up to level three. It took me about a year. At first I was perplexed but persisted with my studies. Being on CD, you can repeat words even a single syllable over and over until you've mastered them. When I enrolled in a university class, I was so far ahead of the others that my first year of Italian was a snap. Go with the flow on this program, there's nothing quite like it any where short of a home tutor sitting next to you and they don't repeat thing a million times until you get it. No human has that much patience.

  4. I have been using this TeLL me More Italian for a few weeks now and am really enjoying the product. I have found it easy to navigate around the program (read the instructions they're short and worth it) and Help screens are offered with each new activity if you have any trouble. Also, the voice recognition pronunciation practice really breaks it down syllable by syllable and tells you where you are making mistakes. My only complaint so far is the dictionary doesn't have all the words used in the activities in it so sometimes you can't really figure out what something says. I have a few years experience with speaking Spanish and since the languages are very similar it has been fairly easy to pick up Italian. I would not advise anyone to buy this program who has never tried to learn another language before. The format would be very confusing and overwhelming. I have done great with this program but it's not for everyone. I used Pimsler to learn some Polish a while back and it worked well for learning a few phrases quickly but TeLL me More gives a more in-depth view of the structure of the language which was what I was looking for this time.

  5. In struggling to learn Italian in anticipation of our trip there, I purchased four teaching products this year, plus several books, and took a continuing ed course. I am looking for a magic, easy way to learn, I guess. New languages are hard! (Age 62). My opinions:

I liked Tell me More Italian better than the similar Rosetta Stone Italian I. These are computer programs. Tell Me was more adaptable to my level, had more variety of exercises, and was in general more fun. Both of these programs gave me a confidence in my pronunciation that I never had in four college French courses many years ago.

I liked Pimsleur Conversational Italian (16 lesson version) better than the less expensive Penton Overseas Learn in Your Car Italian. These are CDs you play while driving. Pimsleur was more personal, more patient, and had more repetitive practice of conversation.

Finally, the continuing ed course, Italian I at Ohio State (eight two-hour classes), was invaluable for the best teaching of the basics of Italian (structure of the language such as conjugation) coaching from the personable teacher (Paola Nanni-Tate), the interaction with live students, and the pressure to study each week to avoid embarassing mistakes in class, which of course I made anyway.
