  1. Speakers of closely related Indian languages may find this book useful, but it is unlikely to be of much help to Western students

  2. Even hindi speakers may find this difficult. It's horribly structured and barely useful as a reference.

  1. THIS BOOK IS A FAVOURITE AMONG MY LITTLE SISTER AND HER FRIENDS. IT'S LIKE MIFFY. ADORABLE LITTLE ANIMALS WITH NO WORDS AT ALL. IT'S ULTRA DURABLE AND SMALL. MY LITTLE SISTER CARRIES IT IN HER POCKET WHEREVER SHE GOES!!!!

  2. This book is different. It is long and tall with sturdy flaps that open. Each flap shows a part of something and your child can guess what the big object is. This is a tough concept for a young child. It is like doing a puzzle... You will experience your child's delight when he or she correctly figures out what is beneath the flaps. This is definately an "interactive" book. This book makes an excellent birthday or holiday gift for a 2 year old. Highly recommended.

  3. My son loves this book. He got it when he was 14 months and liked the illustrations but was too young for it. At 22 months he now knows all of the animals in it which has been a great learning tool for him. It even includes animals not normally addressed in the typical kids animal books (snail, camel, whale). The captions with each flap are tough for a kid under 2 to pay attention to but if you just read it by opening each flap and saying "who am I?" its wonderful. I'd highly recommend it - great gift.

  4. This book is so cute. The rhymes are clever and make my daughter think through each little riddle. All of the book flaps keep my daughter interested. I'm definitely going to buy the who am I book about cars!

  1. I bought the English and Arabic and French versions. I hope to get the Somali and Vietnamese versions too. I love the way the book provides beautiful African stories and makes them accesible to readers of many languages. Thanks!

  1. I was hoping the pronunciation would be in english phonetics so that I could label everything in the house, the car, and the office... but it is written in Gujarati script. BEAUTIFUL BOOK! It will be great for me in about a year. :)

  1. This is a great read. Once I am in India I know it will be very hard to put it down. I am sure that I will not have any problems finding a restroom. Thank you, N. R. Ranina.

  1. A Programmed Text to Learn Gujarati is an excellent book especially for those Indians, like myself, who were born or raised in the Untied States who are not used to the traditional Indian methodology for teaching languages. The book is very simply written and I found it very easy to relate to the way the author teaches the reader how to write Gujarati letters as well as understand the language. I can now write to my family and can finally understand what they have been writing to us for all of these years. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn Gujarati.

  2. I had always thought I could never learn how to read and write my mother tongue, because it just looked so difficult. This book showed me how simple it can be if you look at the alphabet in terms of what you already know as an English speaker. I also learned that Gujarati actually has rules that are easier to learn than one may think. The author has a very user-friendly approach and helped me make real progress in my quest to finally learn my mother tongue.

  3. Yes, I wrote this Programmed Text to Learn Gujarati after seeing several books and other material that was available. This book respects the intelligence and knowledge base of the student, and utilizes the student's familiarity with the English language, to teach Gujarati. Its approach is innovative, friendly, and efficient. Its style is conversational and playful. It makes sure the student understands the point made, before going to the next page. It illustrates several points by citing familiar practices (e.g., usiing letters to indiacte Roman numerals I, IV, XII, C, L, and so on), employed by other languages like Latin, Greek, and English. There is nothing to memorize. Children older than 15 years (no upper limit) born to one or more Gujarati parents, with some familiarity and exposure to Gujarati environment can end their isolation fearlessly by using this self study book.
For those who are married into Gujarati families, or interested in simple acquaintance with the language, or the linguists, and teachers of languages may want to begin by looking at my much smaller and inexpensive book A Crash Course to Learn the Gujarati Script (Setubandh Language Series Volume: 3). This Crash Course takes the reader rapidly to page 80 of the Programmed Text, but is not a substitute for the latter. Crash Course by itself is not sufficient for a non-resident Indian (NRI) Gujarati student.
It is also possible for the students to learn from their grandparents and others, while assisting them to learn English by using the companion book English For the Grandma and Her Children (in Gujarati), and thereby bring the family together again.
