5 comments about Instant Immersion Russian 2 CD-ROM Set (Jewel Case).
- Hi folks, the reviews below do a fine job reviewing the content of these CDs. I just wanted to alert Mac users that this software is not OS X native, but it works fine with the "classic" environment available to all OS X users. It's definitely worth 10 bucks. These CDs will be useful as a supplemental learning aid, or for a total novice planning a trip to Russia.
- I liked the combination of repetition of words and games to reinforce learning, although the male and female's pronunciations were difficult to hear at times. Also, the program stopped running in the middle of the lessons. I have Windows XP, and have not been able to figure out the problem, rendering the CD's useless to me. If anyone knows what the problem is and how to fix it, I would like to know.
- First of all, don't but this if you're a beginner looking for an introduction to the basics Russian language. This product is only meant for learning words and phrases through repetition and memorization. That constitutes the first CD. The second, on the other hand, is absolutely ridiculous. It's basically a game that you have NO way of winning or even doing well at unless you're relatively schooled in Russian. The one thing that this product did come in handy with was helping me to at least hear spoken Russian from native speakers while I worked my way thorough Nicholas J. Brown's "The New Penguin Russian Course," which you should redirect your search engine to right now if you're looking to this product to help you actually learn Russian language - it's the best of the best. All in all, buy this if all you want is to memorize words/phrases or if you need the aid of hearing a native speaker while attempting to self-instruct yourself through the basics of the Russian language. Either way, you'll only receive any use from the first of the two CDs.
- there wasnt a clear voice doing the talking and so when we got to russian nothing was pronounced the way we thought and we couldnt be understood at all.
- Bought this several years ago to learn Russian. The cost (around $10) was great...but the product is VERY lacking in helping you to do anything in learning or speaking the language. If you're going to spend your money on any product to learn a foreign language...go with Rosetta Stone or Pimsleur. Even a college textbook will help you learn more. Don't waste your money on this.

- Great way to learn a language, esp if you are a visual or audio learner. My only complaint about this program is that it doesn't start you out with the alphabet to learn to read and write or pronounce the letters. Other than that it's a great language program, probably the best I've seen yet in my 8 years of living overseas and learning 2 other languages....
- Rosetta Stone across the board is an excellent learning tool.
It "activizes" the learning processes by incorporating the senses (seeing, hearing, physically connecting) in the learning process.
The program basically regurgitates the same controlled script in all languages (in my case Russian) and aims linguistically to hit the foundational areas essential for basic communication.
It is excellent for expanding vocabulary and gaining understanding of basic grammer.
However, it cannot be expected to be sufficient on its own. It is most effective when used in conjuction with outside instruction or other self-study tools.
- It is a good product for the long term objective of learning the language from the "ground up" however it does not give the business traveler the immediately needed words for greetings and similar situations.
- As I have stated in other product reviews, Rosetta Stone is clearly overrated but solid.
The problem with the overall approach is that it requires that you spend your learning time in front of a computer, which is where you do everything else. Lots of competition.
I prefer to do my language learning during my otherwise wasted downtime while I drive. If I study a language while driving, I win because I use otherwise wasted hours. I, like most Americans, spend more time driving than ever before. When I get home, I want to do other essentials.
My favorite car Russian course is Behind the Wheel Russian 8 CDs. This approach frees up your computer, saves your eyes, and allows you to learn to speak Russian while you drive.Behind the Wheel Russian, 8 One Hour Multi-Track CDs
- I have barely used my Rosetta Stone Program (Maybe ten hours), but, The other day, I was watching a movie, something was written in Russian(Cyrillic) in the background and without thinking I read it "Odessa." Then I realized what I just did. I was floored. I don't think I need to do more to review this product. I think this anecdote speaks for itself.

3 comments about Vocabulary Builder - Learn Romanian - For Children 4 & Up.
- Romanian is not a Slavic language, but Romance. Romance is the Italic branch of the Indo-European group of languages that includes French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Spanish, all of which are descended from Latin. About 500 million people speak one of the Romance languages.
- There are very few Romanian Language books DVDs or CDs out there so here is one. It has some (very limited) words to introduce a child to Romanian but some of the words you will not use and there is a lack of some needed words. It has been about a year since we used this product so I don't have particulars anymore or examples, sorry. I just looked at my old orders and remembered that I hadn't written a review.
This is an introduction to the sounds of the language and a few words, that is all. Don't expect to come out speaking much. It is very basic, basic.
For the reviewer above that said nothing in his review but a comment. Romanian is a romance language but it is littered with slavic because the country is surrounded by slovic countries. I believe it is the hardest of the romance languages to learn. I speak Spanish and Italian. It is closer to Italian grammatically, pluralizing words by changing the vowel on the end and using the present perfect as the past tense, etc..
Hope this was helpful to others.
- I would not recommmend this product. It is difficult to use, even for adults. Sometimes the pictures themselves were not clear so it was not possible to know what you were learning. Save your money.

- Just your average recorded, repeat-after-me instruction.
lol I can't believe they suggested the tag "gifts for wife". Yes, serb men certainly shouldn't put up with non-serbian speaking women... especially after the wedding. hehehe Sorry, I have to make fun. They're my people.

- Forget support after your purchase. My delimma: I installed this on a computer at home. I got rid of that computer. I wanted to install this on a new computer. The software blocked me because of the installation on the other computer. I called the company to ask them to deactivate the installation on the computer I got rid of and activate this one.
But it was over the weekend. And technical support was closed. But guess what? Sales was open. Go figure. And of course there was nothing the sales guy could do to help me ... unless I wanted to buy another of their products.
When do they expect people to use their software? Only during business hours? After the sale they're done.
- I have thoroughly enjoyed my Russian software so far...
I have completed only two lessons and I am amazed how much I have picked up and retained in such a short period of time.
The lessons progress and build on themselves in an intuitive yet logical manner doing away with any need for translation.
Looking forward to finishing both levels.
- to everyone wanting to learn another language:
This product has been very helpfull to me. It makes language learning fun and easy. i bought this product a couple of months ago and i'm confident that i could at least survive an introduction if i were to travel to the country. i recomend this product to everyone devoted to learning ANY language
- I bought - or so I thought - Rosetta Stone Russian levels 1 and 2 for $330. After two months of trying to get the product shipped to me I finally received level 2 only. When I called to ask where the level 1 module was I was told that I'd have to pay an additional $100 and first return the Level 2 course. Not the best in customer service...
Worse was to come. When I tried to register the product, using the product registration key that accompanied the disks, it didn't work. Finally I had to spend - during business hours - an hour on the phone with Technical Support. Eventually it appeared that we managed to register the software and I began the course. I really like the approach and approve of the method. But then I switched off my computer. When I restarted, I discovered that the Rosetta Stone software had "forgotten" all my registration information and - of course - the registration key didn't work... So basically I can't ever use this software unless I have an hour to spare to walk through the manual registration process with Technical Support every time I want to use it. Oh, and of course this means I can only use it during business hours, because their Technical Support is not 7/24.
This kind of amateurish software glitch is totally unacceptable and is truly astonishing in this day and age. I can only recommend that no one buys anything from Rosetta Stone until they improve (i) their shipping and packaging, and (ii) the basic software functions necessary to run the program. Until then, it's just a waste of over $300. I am deeply disappointed in Rosetta Stone and looking at the other reviews it is obvious that this company has a major quality control problem.
- This is the only Russian language program I have ever actually looked forward to using. Is is a total experience of words, pictures, and learning by association, not just rules and memorization of vocabulary. The software is quite intelligent in its design and includes many reviews of material at predetermined times to reinforce learning.

- This product is sold as licensed software. Users will NOT be able to load it onto more than one computer. This aspect of the product is not clear from the blurbing on the Rosetta Stone website. It is a "single-user" product.
Don't think that you can share this with friends, or that it is appropriate for a lending collection.
- I think Rosetta Stone is an excellent product, I have used the French and Russian and I find their method infinitely better than trying to memorize Russian words next to their meaning in your native tongue. I always thought I just couldn't learn languages but then I realized that the way I was attempting to learn was at fault and Rosetta Stone offers a great and logical alternative. Some people complain about Rosetta Stone not making you a master in the language it is teaching you but it is not supposed to. It gets you to where you can communicate well in that language and if you want to continue learning you can pick up a secondary school book of that language to get your grammar really squared away. I found Russian Rosetta Stone to be as good as the French, which is to say very good, fun and easy to use. After using my friend's I plan to buy it sometime next month. As for the first reviewer that is a completely ridiculous expectation of the software, and a completely ridiculous reason to give a product a poor rating and that review should be taken down in my opinion.

- I love this product, after working with it just a few times, I find myself saying the phrases and really understanding them. It helps sooo much!
- total immersion is correct. there is no english at all. it gets confusing when you get to the later lessons, because you do not know what you are actually saying, you just get a picture full of objects and words above. without a polish-english dictionary, which you have to buy seperately, you would never figure this program out.
