2 comments about Rowan.
- I read this book while desperately scouring my library for anything by Robin McKinley, and was mildly surprised to find that it was a child's picture book. Still, it was as well-written as anything by McKinley, and I would recommend it to anyone to read to their children.
- We read Rowan when we were thinking about having a dog---it was our "dreaming of dog ownership" book. We adopted a Racing Greyhound, and so the issues covered in Rowan are very similar to the initial "fish out of water" feeling that retired Grey's have. The story shows the little girl empathizing with the pup when it's removed from everything it knows. It's also honest about her expectations and how disappointed she may be feeling at first when her puppy is afraid instead of playful. At the end there's no "too-sweet" resolution, but there is a nice beginning... and the little girl is satisfied with that--a start, a promise of the dog Rowan will become in the hint of a wag from the puppy's tail.

- This is a romantic comedy novel. Not a true story involving whippets, though the author does own a Whippet.

- First a disclaimer: I haven't had a dog in over thirty years. So adopting a whippet was daunting. I wanted a book that told me how to take care of this new creature in my life - how much food and exercise she needs, the kinds of toys and games whippets tend to enjoy, etc. What I got instead was a book that described the various standards by which whippets are judged in the show ring, and a great deal of detail on champions, their bloodlines, breeders and kennels. This is fine for those interested in breeding or showing, but wholly inadequate and superfluous to the besotted albeit novice whippet owner!

- I have this book also, i have possibly an older version, focused a bit more on the Engllish side of the whippet breed.
It is more focused on breeding, showmanship etc.. It also has recipes for the home-cooker, where you don't feed from the can ( for example there are recipes etc.. )It IS a good book and interesting, but it should be a book after you have a whippet, or for light reading, not if you want to read up before purchasing. - "Whippet" by Juliette Cunliffe is a wonderful book. It goes into great detail about history, owning, training, puppies, and care. Very comprehensive. What I love most about it is the visual appeal. It's a hard back, and the photographs within it are gorgeous - all color, with some really stunning Whippets. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about Whippets, and enjoys looking at photos of this amazing breed!
- Picked up our Whippet puppy yesterday and this is a great guide for most of the things we need to know to take care of him. Excellent read, great photos.
- You can find the same information online for free. I wouldn't repeat this purchase again.

1 comments about Wallace and Gromit: The Whippet Vanishes.
- I'm a big Wallace and Gromit fan, and a Whippet fancier so I thought I'd love this book. Though it was a cute story, I'm afraid the Whippet in the story did not look ANYTHING like a real Whippet, I don't know what they were were thinking of- they could have made some effort to reproduce a realistic Whippet. The Whippet club was listing this book in their "books on Whippets" section- Whippet fanciers who buy this book because they think they are going to see a Whippet are going to be very disappointed. Fun story, so I'll give it 4 stars for being entertaining, but the Whippet looked kind of like a Dachshund with long legs! Awful! I think they could have tried a little harder.

- Great book - comprehensive guide for whippet owners. Useful information for those primarily interested as a pet owner rather than those looking for specialised advice on breeding, showing etc. Highly recommended. Should be mandatory reading for all prospective/new whippet owners. The information is detailed yet highly readable. The writing is of an excellent standard making it a pleasure to read.
- While the book is fairly concise, it is a very thorough handbook for owning a Whippet. I have referenced it many times in the few months since owning a Whippet puppy and each time it has something valuable to say. I highly suggest owning this book.
- i love this book. by reading it, i chose to get a whippet as my next dog. i already have a golden retriever, but she's really my mom's dog and i wanted one of my own to take to new york city when i go to college. as luck would have it, my cousin, raymond, who is one of the top whippet breeders in the country, called me and told me he had two little puppies who needed homes. my mom, my brother, my brother's friend, and i all went to his house one weekend and came home with an eight week old puppy. i named him elton, and he's sitting in my lap right now as a twelve week old adolescent. thank you so much, to the wonderful authors, for helping me choose my next breed of dog!
- I have found this book to be an excellent source for Whippet enthusiasts. It is quite comprehensive, has some stunning photography, and deals with pretty much every facet of owning one of these wonderful animals. It gave me a great deal of insight into Whippets in general. Highly recommend it!
- This book provides in depth knowledge concerning all aspects of whippets: their history, temperment, housing, training techniques, etc. I strongly recommend it as the proud owner of a whippet puppy. The information provided has worked wonders in learing about the whippet breed and managing our little guy.
