- Really enjoyable book with great photographs and super histories of the welsh springer's introduction into several coutries, including the United States. Very readable and highly recommended.
- This book is an exceedingly good book for information on the Welsh Springer Spaniel. There are large chapters on the past of the breed (the way the WSS originated). There is also a chapter on deciding whether or not a Welsh is a good dog for your family. If you are considering judging a WSS, this book has color photos of the author (an ex-judge) judging the breed. It also talks about how to groom a Welsh Springer, including before, during and after color photos of the breed being trimmed. I thoroughly recommend this book to Welshie fanciers, young and old.

- This is a very attractive calendar of a relatively uncommon breed of Springers. They're a beautiful dog.

- This is a really interesting and informative book about the history of the Welsh Spring Spaniel from its beginning as a separate breed around 1900 up to the time the book was published. Although it also gives training information, don't buy it for that reason - the training information is quite out of date and somewhat brutal by modern standards. But the breed history information is great! I also really love the pictures of Welshies from the last century. Unfortunately, this book out of print (I managed to get a copy from my British in-laws).

- The book is very informative and provides some great examples for grooming a welsh as well as some good general information about the breed. Where the book falls short is it does not capture a significant portion of the welsh in America that influenced where the breed is today. A number of significant sires and dams were left out of the publication or did not receive the sufficient recognition. The future or current owners of a welsh should understand the origins of the breed not only in Wales but in America, too.
Of all the books dedicated to the welsh, this book is more current that the others, however, a true lover of the breed will want to have all of the books collectively and will take the information they like from each. All in all a good current depiction of the breed but could use a little improvement in the area of Welsh in America to help bridge the gap from the other older books on the welsh (Anne Walton, William Pferd, etc books).

5 comments about Welsh Springer Spaniel: A Complete and Reliable Handbook (Rare Breed).
- This book is written by a Welsh Springer breeder/enthusiast. Many photos; they are glossy photo quality. Other dog books seem to come from a series with the same chapters except for 1 or 2 about the dog on the cover.
- From the first page, you will fall in love with the Welsh Springer Spaniel... and then you'll get one, and will fall in love all over again!! The photos in this book are really the best ones I've ever seen of any dog!!
- I have to disagree with the other reviews. I felt the book was very much "one of a series" of breed books. The photos and text seemed sterile and lacking enthusiasm. I preferred Anne Walton's book.
- ANNE WALTONS BOOK FAR BETTER BOOK IN DEPTH AND VOLUME, WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY FOR MORE INFO .I FOUND THE ABOVE BOOK BASIC AND I AM A NOVICE.
- This book is an exciting book all about the Welsh Springer Spaniel. The pictures all look like they have been pasted into the book from a personal collection, all though they haven't! The pages are smooth and it is hardcover. One the inside front and back covers there is a picture of a dog with arrows pointing to points of interest (ie: stop, withers, feathering). A wonderful book and worth the price too!
