2 comments about A New Owner's Guide to Weimaraners (New Owner's Guide To...).
- We are first time owners of a Weimaraner Puppy. This was excellent for us, it covers the dogs origin, characteristics, feeding & bathing, housebraking & training, health care, dental care, traveling, behavior, plus what to look for in a show dog and sports companion. I really learned a lot with this book. The only thing it does not cover is breeding her (it does cover what to look for in a good breeder).
- We just brought home a weimaraner puppy. This book is good for basics but did not go into specifics in regards to the breed. For example, the training section of the book was very simple, basic instruction. No specifics in that portion, nor did I feel that other sections had too much detail. On the plus side, the section on the breed's history was very informative. Good pictures.

- My two-year-old son enjoys reading this book again and again. Each photo is wonderfully composed and beautiful.
- Playful way to teach youngsters their numbers. The photos are enchanting, as is most of Wegman's work, and your children will enjoy coming back again and again to review the rare and beautiful dogs' wacky positions while learning to count.

4 comments about William Wegman : Fashion Photographs.
- Precious, precious darlings! I originally bought this book for my nine year old Godchild who loves to "play" fashion model with her dog. The minute I opened this book the weimaraner models stole my heart and I knew I had to get a copy to keep on my cocktail table. Everyone, who, like me,loves haute couture and adores those fabulous creatures who are best friends to us all will not be able to put this book down. Everyone who sees this book at first smiles ear to ear--then simply goes wild with laughter. They all want their own copy. The models look so very elegant and poised in trend-setting fashions. This is classic fashion photography with warm precious amber eyed beauties looking back at you. It is dog photography at its best.
- This book presents Wegman's most intriguing and provocative portfolio to date -- a series of eerily antrhopomorphic (and very funny), high-fashion photographs.
- William Wegman, famous for incorporating clothed dogs in his photos, here presents a fashion statement to accompany a major traveling exhibition: anthromorphic fashion photos modeling some of the best designers' creations - with canines. The result blends comedy with fashion insights.
- You can love this book for any one of three reasons:
1. You enjoy dogs (especially weimaraners) and enjoy seeing them unusually well posed to look like attractive humans. 2. The connection between haute couture model and the fashion fascinates you, and you are open to seeing how line, tilt of head, and connected ratios form pleasing images. 3. You love photography and want to better understand how much of the "art" is in the scene itself, versus how much comes from the photographer. Naturally, if you like all three elements, you have a much more than five star book in your hands. You have to see these photographs to believe how good they are, unless you already happen to know Mr. Wegman's work. Take a look at the cover to get a hint. Basically, Mr. Wegman takes his weimaraners (Chundo, Batina, Crooky, and Chip) and treats them like human fashion models. He dresses them in stylish hats, wigs, dresses, suits, shoes, mannequin parts, and other accessories to create "human" poses. Think of this as being a little bit like what Cindy Sherman does in posing as a well-known actress in her own photographs of famous movie scenes. The approach is mostly done in a slightly campish way, emphasizing bright and bold background colors which contrast and make a context for different bright accessory and fashion colors. The natural color of the weimaraneers is the "coolest" part of the visual image. What was brilliant to me was "seeing" what draws my eye in a photographic composition. Normally, I think I'm looking at a model, but based on my reactions to these photographs I'm really drawn much more to a curve, a line, a tilt of the head, or an incline of the body in the model. Seeing the weimaraners anthromorphized in this way allowed me to understand the appeal of the photographs at a much more fundamental level. I thought that Mr. Wegman's works with hats and fur coats were especially successful from this perspective. The brief essays in the book are also valuable for describing how similar it is to work with either human models or the weimaraners. That relieves a certain tension in your mind as you imagine this work being unpleasant to the dogs. But, reportedly they love it and get nice breaks during the day. Here are my favorite images in the book: Three hat photographs: Migratory, Calla Lily, and Ben Day -- all from 1999 Two fur coats: Polar Extreme and Blue Powder -- both from 1994 Evolution of a Bottle (Series of 5) from 1999 Bikini 1999 Glamour Puss 1999 Opening 1999 Melissa 1994 To extend your learning after you finish enjoying this book, I suggest that you try something similar with scarves, hats, and wigs with say chunks of wood, large crystals, or flowers. Whether you photograph the scenes or not, you will learn a lot in composing what is appealing to you. See beauty and classic style all around you . . . always!

5 comments about The Essential Weimaraner.
- We are the happy owner of a one and a half year old weimaraner that my son received for his 4th birthday. We had been looking for a book that covered everything one needed to know to raise a weimaraner. This one definetly has plenty of helpful information. It covers development, purchasing, care, breed standards, showing, hunting and working, breeding and whelping, and common diseases and health care. We are now looking forward to puppies in seven weeks. This book gave me information to select a mate and breed my dog. I loved it!
- Weimaraners are not the right dog for everyone. This book does a good job of honestly portraying the personality of the typical Weim. If you read this book before choosing a dog, it will either confirm that a Weimaraner is the addition to your family that you have been looking for, or get you to reconsider. If you have chosen a Weimaraner, it gives great insights that make training much easier and a more natural process.
- Going by the reviews for this book on this site I thought this was a must have book as I am considering getting a Weimaraner puppy. This book is not for someone like me. I am looking for info that a pet owner who spayeds and neuters all their pets would need. This book does not fill that bill. It covers history of the breed, standards and so on... Only two chapters could I use and due to the fact the Author is British and so uses British terms which I found some what confusing. If you plan to get a Weimaraner for a pet and don't wish to add to the population by breeding, don't plan to show for conformation, or want a history lesson close to Biblical terms, then get a book I found very useful and very informativ. A New Owners Guide To Weimaraners by Judythe Coffman, it's easier to read, very informative esp. the diet and I will keep it handy for my puppy.I really hate the fact I spent over $20 for this book and can't use it, good things about on-line buying is savings, bad thing is sending back and hoping you get your money.
- I am thinking of taking on a weimaraner for the first time. I live in the UK and am planning on an older dog, one needing to be rehomed. I ordered this book thinking it would be full of useful facts for a 'novice' such as myself. However, it was smaller in size than I had expected, and was not easy to read due to design. Content was made up mostly of history (deep stuff most people would not need to know), and lists of breeders/bloodlines. Useful to potential breeders but disappointing for myself. Especially since I had waited so long to receive it. Would get my money back if that were possible. £20 sterling is a lot for such a book.
- An 'Essential' insight into the world of the weimaraner,As a weimaraner owner/breeder/exhibitor I still refer to this book on a regular basis.Handy hints and tips about how your dog thinks and acts from a person who trully understands this most rewarding and demanding breed.OK so it doesn't tell you what to do every step of the way or hold your hand throughout your dog's life, but if that's what you want maybe the Weimaraner isn't for you. I find this book informative and helpful in a number of areas,Even as an 'Experienced'Weimaraner owner. So it is a must read for those serious about owning and rearing a happy healthy pet.Recommended reading for all our new puppy owners.

3 comments about Chip Wants a Dog.
- Children love the absurd humor in this picture book by William Wegman. The trademark Wegman dogs, weimaraners, are photographed here in a variety of settings. Chip, one of the weimaraners, is dressed like a human. Chip believes he IS a human, and he wants a dog. Chip gazes longingly out a window at a dog, wishing he could own one. A dog would make Chip happy, or so he thinks. Chip's mother and father do not want a dog in the house, though.
There are lots of humorous photographs here. The illustrations are playful, and the expressions on the dogs' faces will bring you belly laughs. Eventually, Chip realizes that he IS a dog (the truth comes to him in a dream), and that helps him resolve the conflict. I recommend this to all children, and adults with a playful sense of the absurd. ken32
- A gem for dog lovers of all ages. Chip wants a dog so badly, but can't have one because his parents are cat people. Finally he realizes he doesn't need a dog--he is a dog!! All done in the William Wegman style with his doggy humor.
- I originally picked this book up at our local library and right there in the aisle I started flipping through it. I had seen numerous William Wegman's before and being a major dog lover, enjoyed them, but nothing prepared me for the hilarity of this book. I was streaming tears down my face from laughing. Yes, it is bizarre but it is truly original and my kids, husband and I think it is awesome.

5 comments about Weimaraners (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- If you are looking to get a Weimaraner, this is a must have.
It has great information on what to expect from your dog, how to choose from the litter, Understanding your Weimaraner, Care of, and tips on house-training. It also has great photos. Recommended !!
- If you're reading this review and have a Weimaraner, we already have something in common-that very special bond with a very special and unique breed of dog that really stands out from the crowd.
My life changed when I got my beautiful and loving dog, Savannah. While I was waiting for her to be old enough to pick up from the breeder, I purchased "Weimaraners: Everything About Housing, Care, Nutrition, Breeding and Health Care", written by Susan Fox. I had a Weimaraner, several years ago, but she was a senior Weimer and at 9 years of age I was pretty sure I wasn't going to change too many of her habits. I took her from a shelter and we share a beautiful and exciting life together until she passed away.
I wanted to do everything right and I found all of the answers to my questions when I read this book. It really IS a "Complete Pet Owner's Manual" and I suggest that all Weimaraner parents purchase this or check it out from your local library.
It's filled with eveything from what to feed them, to how to successfully exercise them, to housing them properly, breeding and much, much more. Susan Fox deserves a great deal of credit for writing a manual that has been a sort of "Weimaraner Bible" for me. And my life with Savannah is going just fantastic. I owe a great deal of credit to the book and to Savannah.
It's a really good read for Weimaraner lovers. You'll relate to so much and there is plenty of information in there for everyone! It's organized well and the index makes sense and will direct you to the precise area you're looking for.
Happy Reading and Happy Raising of your Weimaraner. It's a great experience.
Thanks..

- After owning Weimaraners for several years, I decided to see what was out there that was being said about them. This book is a general good base knowledge of the breed. I think that it does encapsulate the disposition of a Weimaraner. However, it appears to focus on all the hard stuff and none of the satisfaction points from owning a dog of this breed. It is a good book for someone who has already gotten a pup or dog, but if you are looking for knowledge prior to purchase, it might scare you away.
- This book tells you everything you nned to know about Weims'. We have owned Weims before but needed a refresher on the puppy training. I found all that was said to be very accurate. The information was complete and easy to apply.
- Weimaraners complete pet own manual gives great information on all sorts of topics, from training - bringing puppy home for the first time - origin and housebreaking. I am a Weimaraner "to be" owner and found this book very helpful in making my decsion to bring one of these beautiful dogs in to our family.

- Funny with a different sense of humor. Characters become quickly familiar. My two-year old's favorite (and I don't even like dogs!).
- My 5 year old son has this book memorized. He laughs everytime he reads it. It has also been very helpful in teaching him the alphabet. It is an especially fun book for us since our pet is a Weimeraner.
- This book made me wish learning the a-b-c's were this much fun back in my own childhood. The photos are amazingly original and your kids will truly enjoy coming back to their letter lessons with Wegman's adorable dogs. A very fresh approach to teaching! NOTE: check out Wegman's fairy tales featuring his prize dogs too.
- This was one of my son's first favorite books. He would listen to me read it as many times as I was willing, and because of Wegman's non-cutesy approach, that was many times indeed. Although the dog-formed letters aren't as clear as text, they don't need to be - there are many other instances of the letters on each page, and hearing them is as important as seeing them. Overall, a great experience in enjoying reading for parent and child alike.
- We originally found this book at the library. We wore it out in the two weeks we had it. The only problem was when the book was put together it was not in order. My kids wanted to check it out again but I was afraid they would think that was the order of the alphabet so I ordered them their own copy. The pictures are great and they will use the phrases from each letter over and over again. It's helped my three year old recognize letters everywhere. We bought a few more Wegman books because we enjoyed this one sooo much!

5 comments about 101 Dog Tricks: Step by Step Activities to Engage, Challenge, and Bond with Your Dog.
- Everything you need is right here. Gorgeous layout, detailed instructions, lots of pictures, every trick you could want and more.
Get ready to have the dog that's the life of the party. Enjoy!
- This book has been great!! I am on my 2nd copy, as I gave the first one away to a friend who fell in love with it, and am planning on buying a 3rd copy to send to another friend.
This book is very easy to follow and a pleasure to page through. The photo's are fun, and make it a good pick for kids, who might not enjoy reading directions, as you can pretty much just follow the pictures. It includes hand signals and verbal cues, a lists of previous tricks to be mastered, and skill level. Whenever I run into a problem I go to the 'trouble shooting' section in the margin next to each trick, and it always has anticipated the snag and offers a helpful solution.
So far my chihuahua can sit, lay down, beg, shake hands, twirl, and roll over!! Not bad for a breed known for being yappy and being carted around like Cleopatra in handbags! I have had the book for about 5 months. We work all the tricks every night after her dinner. It's her 'school' and she loves it! I think she has become more confident since we started training. I know she feels very proud of herself when she does it right.
I highly recommend this book.
- While I am a many time author and know it's proven that the "101..." titles sell, I usually shy away from them. But thanks to the reviews on Amazon I bought this book. As reviewers wrote, this book is excellent.
It's the "Dog Tricks" part that suggested it isn't a serious dog training book; but serious it is. Yes, some of these could be called "tricks", but all of the basics that are so necessary to teach one's dog to get along in the human world are there: sit, down, stay, come, etc.
The way the book is laid out with two pages for each exercise and the clear writing and backup information makes it super easy for a complete novice to understand and teach themselves and then their dog these exercises.
Dogs love to please us and doing these positive training exercises truly works. Do him or her a favor and stick to a daily training plan.
- I AM JUST DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE THIS BOOK HAS A LOT THAT ONLY BIGGER DOGS CAN DO. MY DOG IS A 3LB POODLE AND WOULD NEED A LADDER TO OPEN THE DOOR,IT CANT GET THE TELEPHONE BECAUSE ITS TOO HEAVY, I WOULD NEVER HAVE IT LEARN TO WALK ON A LADDER..THERES JUST A LOT OF BIG DOG TRICKS N NOT THE SMALL DOG TRICKS
- My mini dachshund and I have had a blast learning the tricks in this book- they're easy and fun to teach and make dog training so much easier! And my puppy loves learning them too.
