5 comments about American Pit Bull (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- This book is a "must have" for anyone with a pit or amstaff. It covers all the basic information about the care of the breed. It's written in an easy to read format and contains great pictures. I'll keep this book as a reference.
- We found this book informative and well written. Most of the information seems directed towards people new to the breed. Helpful description explaining the basic personality of the breed, and some helpful health tips round this book out to be good reading material for people interested in purchasing an American Pit Bull Terrier.
- If your thinking about getting a American Pit Bull Terrier, this book is perfect to have. It tells you the history of the breeds , how to train them , and what to exspect when you adopt one into your home. I'm a owner of 2 lovable american pitbull terrier puppies.....
- as a serious protection dog lover, i bought this book to buffer my growing library of "doggy trivia", and i refer to it every time someone in my neighborhood brings one home. it has been loaned out and returned a few times, and it seems to help those who take the time to read it.
it is light on the eyes (love the pictures, and my dog looks like the white dog on page 16-american bully), and light on the mind, very easy to read! i will credit this book for one very special reason, and that is that it lists legal problems one can expect when having a pit lookalike or the real thing. this book actually lead me to research further into what laws pertain in my area of the world, and it made me realize the benefit of preparing for our move next year. this aspect alone is important for any pit owner. because most insurance companies will not allow groomer or vet stats into their computers (the results would kill their ability to dole out insurance because the pomeranian, chow chow, cocker spaniel, and scottie owners would be ahead of pits for bites), this book is important. it shows that these dogs are sited for media and statistical exploitation. i recommend it for the beginning pit lover. it shows the dogs i see in my friend's homes, the ones that love the kids and are not allowed to be a problem. please buy it if you have a pit, and if you don't buy it anyway. you may learn to discern where the propaganda came from. as the owner of an american bully who resembles a pit, i can attest to the problems we, the good dog owners, face because of owners of dogs who will never own books! i also recommend this book for any boston terrier owner. i have found that these dogs came from the truncated nosed pits of the 1800's. it is a great history of where your companion animal came from. see carl semencic books. go pits!
- While this book has a lot of information for people who have a puppy, it offers minimal information for someone like me who has just brought home an adult Staffy. The book has a lot of info on how to crate train a puppy, the importance of socialization and other topics that can pertain to adult dogs, but if there was just one paragraph on how to make an adult dog feel comfortable in it's new home, or what I should expect during the first week, I would have given this book 4 stars!
I was also looking for a book that would give me the basics on what type of collar/brush/leash to buy, but when I got to that section, the authors advice was to ask your vet. While the pictures were great, I would quickly trade them for more information!

- Very disappointing book. While it has great photos of Staffies...some of which look very much like my Staffie Sheba...Dr. Fleig has a very superficial grasp of the history of the breed in question, and an astonishing ignorance of related breeds, especially the Pit Bull. Perhaps he should stick to German breeds, and leave the British breeds to someone else.

5 comments about American Pit Bull and Staffordshire Terriers: Everything About Purchase, Care, Nutrition, Breeding, Behavior, and Training (A Complet).
- The author covers everthing from housebreaking and training to what to look for in body structure, to what to expect from your APBT. It answered all the questions I had and more that I didn't know yet. It's a great book, a definite buy.
- This book was a waste of time and money. There was very little specific information on the breed except on probably 3-5 pages. Almost everything else should just say canine.
- I really enjoyed this book. I am not yet an Amstaff or APBT owner but I found the information in this book to be extremely informative as I attempt to evaluate whether this breed is the right choice for me. The pictures are just excellent.
- Sorry folks, this is a basic dog book. You could put a poodle on the cover and you wouldnt have to change the text. Someone didnt do thier homework on this one.Its a waste of time and money at the breeds expense!
- As a first time dog/Amstaff owner, I found this book very helpful for the first couple of months of ownership, but would highly recommend following it up with The American Staffordshire Terrier by Jacqueline Fraser ASAP.

- Amongst the limited number of books available on this particular breed, most of which I own, this one stands out. Not only is it lavishly illustrated with superior quality photographs of Staffs, supplies, other recommended books and how-to-photos (say, clean the puppy's ears), but the contents is detailed enough, to the point, useful and informative. As I was reading the book what also came through was the Author's affection for this breed. Other books on the subject, either boring or too matter-of-factly, have fallen short of affording me such a bonus.
- I would not recommend this book to most dog owners. I was immediately turned off by it from the first page:
"Most Stafford owners are quick to answer no [to the question 'Is that a Pit Bull?'], and then take the time to say the name of the breed over and over, slowly and carefully, to make sure there is no misunderstanding. They may go on to try to explain what a Pit Bull actually is: 'bigger,' 'longer legs,' 'cropped ears,' 'vicious,' 'trained to fight.'" In my opinion it's terribly irresponsible that she would defend the Stafford whilst demonizing the Pit Bull. Also, pictured on the back cover of the book is an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier, not a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
- a decent book on the breed, but has a reference in it that the pit bull is vicious. to me it seems the author doesnt know to much about the pit bull. statement like that get the bull terrier in more of a bad rap.
- Everything went great with my order. The book was a great aid in getting to know my new puppy staffordshire bull terrier.

- It is amazing the amount of facts to be taken in consideration when you purchase a new dog, if the SBT is on your short list, this book is a must buy, aside from the average information needed in make the decision, it is obvious the amount of time, dedication and love the author has or the breed, one of the most incredible dogs finally gets a great source of info for the beginner Staff Bull owner, alongside with great pictures, this books gives you everything you need to konw before and right after you get your Sttafordshire Bull Terrier
- A really good book well written by somebody who obviously knows the breed first hand. Whatever you would like to know about the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is here in one book. Whether you would like to show your dog or just provide the best possible care for your best friend, all of the answers are here. VERY highly recommended for either a fancier of the breed or for anybody who wishes to learn more about it.
- I haven't read this book. I own it, but I haven't read it. The reason I haven't read it is because they chose an unfortunate font for the text of the book, a font that's too "dense" on the page. I kid you not. I admit it's a strange criticism but if reading a book is an exercise in eye strain, that's a problem. The only time it lets up is on the one page where the font inexplicably changes. And what's with the photo on the page three title page? That's an American Staffordshire Terrier, not an SBT. It has cropped ears, and its legs and neck are long. I gave it three stars because I didn't think it was fair to completely pan a book I haven't read, and the photos that are actually of SBTs are adorable
- This book is a wonderful introduction to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier! It provides not only a confirmation information but also a history of the breed, how to care for and train it and what types of activities are enjoyed by staffords and their owners. Quality, often large, color photos really round out this book. If you are considering a stafford, this is the first book you should purchase.
- This book is decent for people new to dogs in general. I'd hoped to find more info specific to staffords especially in training and dealing with common stafford problems like chewing and skin problems. There are some things inside I didn't know, so I'd still say it was worth the price.

- This is a comprehensive guide for the new owner. It covers such topics as selecting the right dog, characteristics of the breed, health care, grooming, and training. It also includes the history of the breed.
- This is a really great book for the new owner. It has lots of very important information.
- This was the first book purchased on my dog, I thought it was pretty good (but very basic), at covering topics, but there is better books on staffys out there!
