- If you are trying to figure out how to calm one of these beasts down, this is a good start. The pictures of the Champions are worth the price.

5 comments about I, Jack.
- I bought this book for my 7 year old daughter at her school book fair, along with several other paperbacks. She devoured it and kept insisting that I read it. I said ok, thinking I want to encourage her love of reading and knowing how much fun it is to recommend a good book to someone so you can then talk about it when they are finished. I did not expect to enjoy it so thoroughly, however! I laughed right out loud, highly recommnended it to my husband when I was finished, and read it to my younger son soon after I had finished it the first time. I laughed while reading it to him, too! If you've ever wondered what the heck a dog must be thinking to do what he/she does, this book is of tremendous help. I often find myself thinking in Jack-terms when dealing with our 18 month old Chocolate Lab. I just purchased the next Jack book and thought I'd take a minute to add my positive review of the first.
- I came across this book in a Goodwill pile and paid all of 49 cents for it. What a gem! I read several chapters in the car before I left the parking lot and laughed out loud! Brought it home to my 13 year old son who finished it faster than any book I've known him to read, and just lent it to my adult (over 50) male office mate this morning. He and the book have disappeared (hmmm) so it must be reminding him of his older yellow lab. I don't know which is funnier, Jack or the cats' commentaries. I am not even a "dog person" and think this book is a lot of fun. You know that dogs must be thinking this sort of thing, and cats as well. I recommend this book to anyone, any age... it is a hoot. And I am glad to see that Jack has written another book recently!
- This is a great story told from the perspective of the dog. The unconventional format was enlightening to our child who is used to reading stories told by little girls or other narrators.
- I am the mother of an 8 year old and typing this review in her own words "I Jack is the worst book. I do not recommend you getting it. Each page is about a different thing, like one page is about getting married, and another page is about killing a rabbit. It's not like one chapter is about one thing and the next chapter talks about the thing before it. Each page is about something different. It doesn't give you much information about what's happening." From my perspective, as the mother, it is a strange book but not good strange, just strange strange. I was listening to my daughter complain about reading it each night and agreed to read one chapter aloud to her and we did have fun, but the fun was in laughing about the words, gibberish which distracted from being able to follow the story. Not a kids' book or a book that a very select few kid's might enjoy, but not mine and not me!
- I got this book for my 9 year old; she LOVED Jack and urged me to read it too. I laughed my head off at Jack's antics and read it aloud to my 5 year old and 7 year old. We all had fun trying to figure out what Jack's names for various things meant; "apedogs" = humans, "flying featheries" = birds, "big white waterdish" = toilet...but if you get stumped, there's a glossary in the back.
Jack is a large, lovable, goofy yellow Lab; he's apparently not neutered and falls in love with the beautiful Samoyed next door, who has a litter of puppies as a result. But don't worry -- there is nothing graphic and we are just told that he wants to "marry" her. In his efforts to help her find a safe place to birth the pups, Jack gets involved in some shady doing's at the old mill, with hilarious and oddly poignant results.
We loved Jack and we also got a kick out of the snarky comments that The Cats (Maisie, Muskie and Remy) make in the form of footnotes to the story told by "Big Yellow Stupid," as they call him.
The author mixes humor with a good knowledge of dog psychology. Jack is a actually a pretty smart dog, though his love of food proves his undoing on more than one occasion.
Recommended for dog lovers of all ages.

- Illustrated with fine black-and-white photographs, The Savvy Samoyed is an excellent introduction to the white, double-coated, plume-tailed, exceptionally intelligent Samoyed breed of dog. The Samoyed is a demanding canine breed, whose beautiful coat requires daily grooming, whose large stature requires a broad fenced-in area for exercise, and whose keen mind needs something to do all day - the Samoyed was originally bred as a working dog. Yet the rewards of love and companionship can be bountiful for those ready to devote the their time and energy to proper maintenance of this splendid breed. The Savvy Samoyed's chapters include information on the many different working careers the Samoyed can pursue, the mechanics of a dog show, and advice on overseeing Samoyed whelping. More than just another dog care book, the Savvy Samoyed is a superb tribute to this wonderful and gorgeous breed.
- As the owner of one of Remington's boys, (Remington being the Savvy Samoyed on the cover) this book has helped us greatly. We have read and now use it as a reference to any questions or problems that may come up during this wonderful puppy stage. It covers everything from the time they are born, to breeding, to the time they become show dogs and beyond. The pictures are great and some are quite funny. This is a beautiful and loving breed of dog. It is very interesting to know what their background is and where they come from. Also interesting is the chapter on spinning with Samoyed hair. It is great that the book tells of how they speak and have a language all their own, and how helpful they are to people in need. It is quite clear the love and knowledge that Pat (the author) has for these dogs. Best wishes to you Pat, and best of luck to all Samoyeds and their owners.
- As the Samoyed is considered the oldest of the domestic dog breeds, Pat's book tells their story from the beginning. This beautiful, intelligent breed needed their story told. "The Savvy Samoyed" tells it well, completely and with good humor. This should be required reading for anyone wanting a Northern breed of dog.

- Quite simply, the best guide to the Samoyed I've seen. It will be a welcome addition to the adoption kits we give to new owners of rescued Samoyeds! Regardless of your involvement- breeders, rescue, new owner, seasoned veteran - this book is a must have. It's well-written, informative, and contains plenty of helpful illustrations. You'll love the beautiful photographs! E.J. McWhorter, Central Ohio Samoyed Rescue
- This is a very informative books, that gives you all the essentials of keeping a Sammie in a clear and concise manner. There might be more comprehensive books out there on the subject, but this one is really god for the beginning Sammie-lover!
- I've done a ton of research on Samoyeds, Huskies and Malamutes, and this is probably the best book for the money that I have come across. It only cost me a total of I think $8.00 or so to have it shipped to my door and it contains a surprisingly lot of information for its small size. Seriously interested people will probably want to get another book to supplement this, but this is a really good place to start for someone interested in learning about Samoyeds. Its affordable, covers a lot of areas, and has a lot of color pictures. I would definitely recommend this book.
