1 comments about Dog Training: Retrievers and Pointers, at Home and in the Field (The Complete Hunter).
- This is by far the best turkey hunting book I have read. It is very well set up and reads very well. It's broken up into sections that explain every aspect of the hunt, including tips for bow hunting, eastern turkey, Rio's and all others. It also explains how to roost a bird and pre season locating, a very important part of getting your spring or fall bird. There is an All-star line up of pros that give input and share the knowladge that they have built over years of being in the woods . This is a book that you could read every spring and still gather usefull info. So pick up a copy and enjoy, happy hunting

1 comments about German Wirehaired Pointer (Comprehensive Owner's Guide).
- We bought the book after getting an 8 month old male puppy at a super adopt-a-thon thought to be "mostly" German Wirehaired Pointer. I feel like the author was observing our dog, describing him to a "T". Because this breed is extremely energetic and intelligent, they can be quite a handful. This book has been very helpful in providing insight about how to handle our new pet by teaching us about this particular breed's characteristics.

3 comments about Training A Young Pointer: How The Experts Developed My Bird Dog And Me.
- Finally, a training book by someone who knows how to write. Healy does not claim to be an expert trainer. Instead, he narrates his experiences in a way that makes it a pleasure to read. In spite of his less than expert status, Healy recounts his journey in a way that resonates with anyone who's ever trained a dog or wants to.
- First, this is NOT a training book. There are many such books around which are far better for that purpose. It is, rather, the short story of a total novice who gets the totally wrong dog for himself, a big-running field trial-bred Pointer to hunt grouse in the Northeast. Fortunately, he gets steered to some good professional trainers and after at least three long stays with them for his dog, gets things mostly worked out.
It is an interesting book, but the training is not done by the author; moreover, he has no knowledge of what he's done wrong, either in training or initial selection of his dog, so can't make suggestions to others. It isn't at all impossible to train a bird dog yourself, but you have to do your homework and be more sensible than Healy. Well-written and worthwhile book, though, if you don't expect too much. 3 1/2 stars maybe, especially if you are WAY over your head and want to use a pro trainer. But NOT a training book.
- Very disappointed as this was a story of someone's trial & tribulation, not a guide to good training procedures. Would not recommend.

- From the photo on the inside front cover to The back inside cover. I doubt that you will find anyting you do not like. This Book is totally up-to-date That is what makes it so great. You are not reading a book that was how they did it in them Good Ole Days. The info and photos are all for todays German Shorthaired Pointer. If it misses anything I for one do not know what that maybe.

- I read the reviews - I should have taken them seriously. We adopted a pointer from the shelter and knew nothing about the breed. Have found more out on the internet than this book. More about how to care for dog in general.

- The condition of the book was excellent, and the price was great. The cost of shipping was too much.
- This was a really good book. It was about a young tippicle boy still in elementry school who has feelings about people like teenagers where they hate school, hate there parents, and HOMEWORK!!! Anyway, him and his parents have to take care of his grandfathers dog shelter because he ust had heart surgery and they are selling dogs, but he has a dog that keeps following him so he starts taking care of it like its his own. Someone was calling to see the dog and when he arives the boy takes the dog and hides it. The dog runs off and sees the person looking for a dog, and the little boy starts wimping out. The grandfather sees him and tell the owner its his.
- My son likes all Bill Wallace books, and he really likes dogs, so he loved this particular book.

- Ordered, but never received. Seller sent the wrong books, I returned the wrong books at my cost. Money was refunded, but I lost in paying for the shipping of the wrong books! Grrrr...
- This book provided nothing you couldn't read on wikipedia. I regret wasting money on it.
- This book is full of information about the breed itself and how to properly train you pointer for house and hunting. I found it very informative!

5 comments about The German Shorthaired Pointer: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet (Your Happy Healthy Pet).
- This book is intended for those considering the breed, and it is a wonderful and funny introduction. It is also a fine book for those who have owned GSPs before to enjoy and reflect on their experience with the breed. A must for a person considering getting the breed for the first time. It is in depth about the breed history, standard, and breed character. Not a training guide, but that is not its apparent purpose. Read this one BEFORE you get a GSP.
- We love our adopted shelter GSP dog and when were thinking of one, we bought this invaluable book. Excellent information, characterization of the breed and written with humor. This book is for current owners and potential owners. We love our dog and use this book as a reference when we have questions on him. This book accurately described his temperant, needs and how to care for him.
- Nancy Campbell captures the true essence of the breed in her personal, up-close approach. Her descriptions of what makes the GSP special, I found are accurate and heart warming. Not only is the book informative and extremely well organized, it is also fun reading! I especially liked some of the training techniques. I have tried them and they work.
- The author, Nancy Campbell, captures the true essence of the German Shorthair Pointer, their versatility, their personality, etc. As a result, folks considering adoption or ownership will discover what they need to know before they make a commitment to the breed.
Becoming breed knowledgeable is extremely important so that the rate for abandonment and shelter turn-ins can lessen over time. Nancy arms the reader with more than enough information to make an educated decision "about everything GSP"! I personally recommended this book to several people over the last year and they have all reported that this book was a valuable tool in their decision making process!
- This is an excellent book it has helped me learn alot about the GSP. Vendor was great recevied my book a mere 4 days after ordering and I live overseas.

2 comments about The German Shorthaired Pointer: a Hunter's Guide.
- Dave Gowdey is obviously a man who enjoys his dogs, and this book reflects this. Unlike other GSP books this one shows the GSP personality through anecdotes and insights into this breed through years of ownership. The basic origins of the German Shorthair are outlined, and the typical hunting attributes of this companion foot hunting breed. Picking a puppy gives invaluable advice and using positive training and dog behaviour observations rather than the electric collar Dave Gowdey explains clearly how to develop a youngster into a well trained happy hunting dog that will give its owner satisfaction and enjoyment in owning a GSP they trained themself.
I found this book easy to read with a good flow and I recommend it to intending and novice GSP owenrs, and those who like to hunt wild game with their family companion dog.
- The book is an easy read and extremely informative. Whether you are new to the breed or have experience with the German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP), this guide assists in choosing a dog, training it, hunting with it and dealing with breed specific issues. It is especially recommended for anyone who has never owned a GSP and in fact every GSP should come with one as an owner's manual.
