- Great Book! A must have for any Elkhound owner.
- I read several other books on the breed in an effort to understand my dog, but nothing came close to explaining to me her weird personality quirks and why she has them. Then I read THIS book and I swear the light was shining and the angels were singing. Nina Ross and Pat Craige Trotter, from whom I actually got my dog, explain the elkhound in clear, exact detail. No other book can explain this wonderful, ancient breed like this one does. Now that I can "speak" Elkhound, I couldn't imagine ever having another breed!
- Although some people consider this the bible for Norwegian Elkhounds. I fount this book boring. Too much of this book is wasted on Breeder information and dog shows. I wanted a book more to explain how to take care of the PUPPY! and the DOG as it grew. Not for show.
Also book is lacking in that it NEEDS COLOR PICTURES. Book is very boring to look at... especially if the kids want to read it too and learn how to take care of the doggie.

- This book is well indexed, as it may be easily read from cover to cover, or it may also be used strictly by section, allowing for quick and easy reference.
While the beginning portion gives great detailed physical description as well as AKA standards, I have found the vast majority of the book to provide very general information that can apply to just about any dog. While I have adopted an adult, most of the book talks to the prospective puppy owner/trainer. Thererfore, I do not feel that it addresses breed-specific problems that may exist in adult dogs adopted from unknown previous owners.

4 comments about Passing Drug Tests: The Gospel of Getting Clean for UA's.
- The information in this book is very informative and accurate at the time it was published.
The problem is that drug testing technologies change regularly and it is almost impossible for print publications to keep pace with them.
[...]
- what a great quick and easy read. In fact you can skip the first half and and go right to "getting clean." The first half is nothing but filler making attempts to give the author credibility and give the book some personality. With out it the book is pretty much science and a "how toguide."Which is alright with me because that's all I was looking for. This book is designed obviously for the THC user, most other drugs exit the body quite quickly. The true beauty of this book is how it promotes over all health and clean living or "cleansed living." A very motivating and inspirational read!
- The author purports to tell how he passed a drug test after heavy use within a day. Didn't see any sign of that at all. Fairly well written, good quotes, the science behind it was plausible but HOW did he pass the tests on such alledgedly short notice?? The long and the short of this is, don't believe everything you read. There was some good advice, some that's simply not true (saunas don't help because THC is stored in the fat cells). Even the flushing parts were suspect. Again, how were the tests passed on such short notice?? Genuinely curious.
- The body does not store THC, Mr. D. Dowd. Simply because in its natural state, it is fat soluble does not mean that the body stores THC in our fat. Why would the body do that?
The body circulates it through our system so that it can bind with the corresponding receptors, before being excreted through waste. If our body was to store the THC after being used then how would a person get high?

- Very comprehensive and thorough look at the Norwegian Elkhound breed. Gives the history of the breed as well as an excellent discription of the breed and their temporament, both positive and negative points. Great book to have if you are considering an Elkhound, or, already have one.
- There isnt many books about this breed, we purchased a couple and this is the best one, has a lot of information on the breed and is not so "dog template book" like as many other are, although it has some.
I wish it would talk more about the chewing needs of elkhounds, which really is pretty extensive and not emphasized so much in this book.
It has its errors, I happen to be norwegian so I know a few things about it - e.g. the literal transaltion of the norwegian name is "Moose Dog" (ElgHund), which someone back in the 1800's wrongfully translated to elkhound... overall a recommended book.

- This book is old, i recommend one of the newer ones out there. Like most such books, they are based on a dog book template, then somewhat altered to fit the breed, this one is a bit too obveious in many places and has wrongful information, e.g. "the first few nights give your puppy a warm flask" is in there, other books explicitly say that is just a myth and does not do anything good. The reason it gets 3 out of 5 is that it is very low cost, so its ok for the money.
