  1. A great book for those interested in the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog (Swissy's). After reading Ms Hennigan's book, you'll no doubt fall in love with this fine breed. She covers most topics, what to look for and look out for, temperment, health, etc. The only thing missing is a resource for locating breeders - check the American Kennel Club for that info

  2. I found this book a good resource for breed-specific information. It contains several mentions of specific problems (in some cases, non-problems) to keep an eye out for in this breed.

  3. Text is cold and clinical. Could be improved upon with more personal information and experiences. Great looking dogs in the photos, but sure could use more of them.

  4. Shannon did a fantastic job of "introducing" Swissies. The book is a great primer -- if you're interested in learning about this beautiful breed, this is the best place to start. There are other books out there with more beautiful photos, but the text is fluff. This book, however, is less concerned about portraying Swissies as the "perfect family dog" than portraying them honestly with simple, truthful information that is easily assimilated by any reader.

  5. I found this book interesting but a little dry when discussing some topics. I liked the exmples of the dogs pictured. Over all, it was worth reading and looking at the pics, but it took a long time to get through. Could use some more interest-holding sections throughout.

  1. This is a very informative book. From the history, selecting a breeder, feeding and training. It's a must have for any "swissy" owner. The photos are terrific and I can't think of a thing that Mr. Barton has left out!

  2. I really enjoy this book, I wish it was longer, my 2 yr old daughter loved all the colorful pictures of the puppies and dogs. Very informative, and helpful.

  3. I just purchased my third copy of this book. Once I loan my copy out to friends or family, it disappears! I'm not telling anyone else I have a new copy! So obviously it is a VERY interesting and informative book. I agree with one of the previous reviewers however. When will you be writing another book?!? Thanks for the information you provide without boring us with unnecessary details.

  4. Great book with lots of personal input by Mr. Barton. I was not sure what to expect when I got my pup other than what I saw on the internet and what the breeder told me. It was all pretty on target, but in this book, Mr. Barton introduces more subtle and intersting accounts of the characteristics of the breed and now I can see all this dveloping in my own Swissy. ...

  5. It is a nice introduction to the Swissy with beautiful photos. The book, however, reads like a brochure. It is inappropriately priced in the textbook range, which it is not (not worth more than $30). The book is superficial and could greatly benefit from some more detailed information. That being said, it does cover some general topics nicely.

  1. This is a really helpful book, which covers everything you'll need to know from training to healthcare, especially since we are first time owners of a Swissy. There are a lot of helpful tips and really great pictures. Overall, it was a pleasure to read and very helpful.
