  1. When you order the "cyclist's guide" Amazon sends out the "walker's guide" instead. They sent me the walker's guide twice when I ordered the cyclist's guide. The first time I received it was in my initial order and the second time was after I filed a complaint that I was sent the wrong product. They sent the same wrong book! Since I am cycling around Spain, I had no use for the walker's guide. I told them what the problem was and they said it was a system wide problem and that they don't actually have the cyclist's guide to The Way of St. James. So, if you order this book, plan on getting the walker's guide instead!

  1. This is a wonderful calendar for anyone who loves the breed: great pyrenees. For anyone who has owned one..I'm sure we would agree that they are angels with wings. I was pleased to see my dog is Mr. July. His name is Spirit and he was the son of champion Teddy Barr of Suncatcher. This calendar would be a wonderful Christmas present for anyone who enjoys the giant breeds. Sincerely, Lia

  1. Very good but lacking in the training part. The book refers to other training books but those books talk about Dogs in general not about big dogs with traits like digging, barking, roaming, etc. Other than that the book is a good buy for all interested in buying a pyr. or those who have pyrs already. I recommend it.

  2. I have owned this book for seven years, and it was what sold me on buying a Great Pyrenees. A Great Pyrenees is a wonderful breed, but not for everyone. Please read this book before buying a Great Pyrenees. I have read this book multiple times, for it is the "Great Pyrenees bible". Other Great Pyrenees books were of no value to me. Paul Strang's book has helped me better understand my big, walking "snowdrift".

  3. This book is wonderful! If you are thinking about sharing your life with a walking hairball... i highly recommend it. Very informative. If you can get your hands on a copy, it's well worth the money.

  4. This book is only of any real value to someone who is going to show their dog,

  5. Although it could use some color pictures and another update. This book is very useful to understanding this ancient magnificent breed.

  1. this was a great read, it had a few differences in what I'd read elsewhere about pyrs, but was still very informative and had good pictures, as well as an extensive section about illnesses your pyr can get.

  2. I bought two books when we adopted our Pyr from a rescue clinic. We knew a little about the breed traits, that were reaffirmed in this book. Great pictures and easy to read. You will be glad you got this instruction booklet.

  3. I love this book. After adopting 2 baby Great Pyreness puppies, this book helped me understand them in a way I would have never known. They are beautiful dogs that have lots of love for there owners, however they like to have a lot of land to roam, and have a big barking issue. This book taught why they bark so much, it is because they are WATCH dogs, and they feel the need to bark in order to protect there heard/Owners. Great book!

  4. If you own a Pyr or are considering one, you need this book. It provides the history, standards and what to expect when you own this breed. I love my Pyr, but it is not the pet for everyone. This book will help you decide if it is right for you. If you already own one, it is very interesting and has some nice pictures of these beautiful dogs.

  5. Informative and had wonderful pictures to go along with info. Would recommend for sure! Better than some out there.

  1. This is an outstanding book by a leader in the world of Great Pyrenees. If you are just thinking of adding a Pyrenees to your family or have been in the breed for years this is a must read.

    L. Taylor

  2. This book is written by an expert in Great Pyrenees. He is a long time breeder and his knowledge and understanding of Great Pyrenees is unsurpassed! This is a must have for anyone who either loves or is thinking about adding a Pyr to their household! This is his second book (The Great Pyrenees, From France With Love) on the Great Pyrenees breed and I am pleased to say I have and STILL read them both! Thanks for adding important information to my library!

  3. I was hoping to find a book that would give me information about history of the breed, it's development in the world, and who the initial breeders were to help establish the breed in North America. I also was interested in learning about health, nutrition, and grooming issues concerning the breed. This is a must have for anyone who might be interested in learning about the Great Pyrenees dog. The book was written by a long time breeder who has extensive knowledge of the breed. He has successfully produced a multitude of champions over the years. His love for the breed is evident in every word written within the pages of this book. It was easy and enjoyable to read, organized, and filled with information for the novice or for the long time breed enthusiast. I can highly recommend it!

    D. Lawrence

  4. This book is highly recommended to every potential or current owner of a Great Pyrenees.

  5. First of all, the author Joseph B. Gentzel, is brilliant when it comes to Pyr's. We have a signed copy of his first book and met him at the Ohio Great Pyrenees National this past May (2008). The book, being brand new, will make an excellent keepsake for many years to come. I was overwhelmed when I first met this breed (8 all came at once to receive pets), with my fiance, who was ready to take on the showring. But since March '05, when we picked up our first puppy, which was pick of the litter by a breeder in Cave Creek, AZ, I have been in love with this breed ever since. We also took home his Mama and have since purchased another show quality puppy. They are beautiful dogs to love and cherish always.

  1. I bought this book searching for information on the Great Pyrenees Dog. I was in the process of buying a puppy and wanted to know everything I could about the breed. This book answers all your questions and some you wouldn't think of asking! Kim Lansley has put together one of the best Pyrenees books on the market. Very well put together and informative. The pictures are beautiful and the layout wonderful! I would highly suggest this book to anyone interested in buying a Great Pyrenees Dog.

  2. This book could possibly be helpful to people wanting a show dog, but if you intend to use your Great Pyrenees for what it was bred for, guarding livestock, it is no help at all. I bought the book hoping for some advice in correcting my two Pyrs' bad habits like digging and chewing. The book basically said that my dogs chew because I hurt their feelings by leaving them outside and not letting them in the house. Puhleese.

  3. I recently adopted a Great Pyrenees puppy and have never owned one before. This book was very helpful in understanding the breed better. The book has great pictures and information that I found very relative to the questions I had about this breed. There were a lot of tidbits I had no clue about that were brought to light such as these dogs will dig a "bed" to lay in to guard their territory. Totally explains why we keep finding holes in our front yard. Would recommend to anyone thinking about adopting their first Great Pyrenees.

  4. I thought the book was well written and very informative... I am new to the breed, and was looking for as much information as possible on training and care, and this book had it all, plus some things I didn't need like information on showing.
