5 comments about The Field Gordon Setter.
- This is a very well written and very informative book. Written with some humor but matter of fact and covers every question that someone new to gordons would have. They cover a wide range of topics that touch every subject from pups starting in the field, the show ring, first aid, care of breeding stock etc.The amount of information is fabulous and I recommend it to any Gordon owner - beginner or seasoned vetran!!
- Having had several "pointing" dogs I thought that I knew everything. Then I purchased a Gordon Setter from the Author and WOW! The breed is peerless and the book is more than a "how to"" guide. The insights and training tips for the breed are excellent. The humor is great! I give it 4 paws up!
- Sue and Norm Sorby literally wrote the book on pointing dogs with this one. It not only tells you how to train a Gordon Setter (or any other pointing breed of the finest quality field stock), but also how to pick a pup, when to train, how to deal with different personalities (yours and the dogs), showing, field trialing, and breeding. In short the essential guide for anyone interested in getting the most from a great hunting dog. The book is written in such a way that even a first time bird dog owner can understand and come away with a "I can do this!" attitude. A must read for anyone considering the purchase of a "hunting companion." Thanks Sue and Norm!
- Remember, this book is written by one of the biggest breeders of Gordon Setters in the USA. That said, the book does have a number of valid points it makes, but then sometimes you have to wade through the propaganda.
That said, it's an interesting read and if you are a student of the Gordon Setter breed, it does belong on your bookshelf.
- After being owned by a Gordon for seven years and now re-reading the book, it is obvious how well the Sorbys know these dogs. They have great insight into the inner workings of the mind of the Gordon in how the dog deals with other dogs, training, field and confirmation competitions. I do not hunt but these are great dogs and the book is as close to an owner's manual as you can get. I wish children came with a book like this.

3 comments about Gordon Setters Today (Book of the Breed).
- The author of Gordon Setters Today is a respected breeder/judge in the British Isles. American Gordon Setter fanciers will recognize the Lourdace prefix, which she has used for over 20 years. Ms. Baddeley has won
national awards for her achievements in the breed, and had the honour of judging Gordon Setters at Crufts in 1994. She is also the author of the British section for the Gordon Setter Club of America's last 10-year-review. The book includes sections on the Gordon in Britain, North America, Australasia and Europe, and has numerous fascinating photos.
- Jose has the knowledge of the breed and has very kindly passed it on to us in this very useful book. The information is priceless to those of us who are relatively new to the breed. I know it has helped me on many occasions. It takes pride of place on my book shelf.
- Contains information on various kennels in the US, and abroad. Has a small chapter on grooming for show, but is definitely geared towards someone who knows what they are doing. Beautiful photos of past champions, as well as good illustrations and photos to help you find a correct conformationed show dog. Highlights Gordons both as Show and Field Dogs. Nice coffee table book.

1 comments about Gordon Setters KW-172.
- This is truely a splendid book for the Gordon Setter owner/fancier.
This book was published 18 years ago and it brings a tear to my eye knowing that all of the beautiful setters pictured have passed on.
They have gone to a better place.
About the book:
This is an informative book about the breed,it is easy reading rather than boring. This book is loaded with with many well-taken pictures.
Topics covered are;
1:History and description of the breed
2:Standard of the gordon
3:Grooming
4:Field Training
5:Selecting your dog
6:The New Family Member
7:Feeding Requirements
8:Housebreaking and Training
9:Behaviour Modification
10:Health Care
11:Preventative Dental Care
12:Breeding
13:Dogs and the Law
The fist third/half of the book is about Gordons and the second half generalizes about Dogs,a good book nonetheless.
Hope I helped.
