1. This is not a training book however it is an excellent book on the history and bloodlines of the GSP in both the field and show ring. It truly is a must for someone who is seriously trying to breed quality GSP.



2. C. Bede Maxwell wrote the best sourcebook on the German Shorthaired Pointer I have ever read. I have owned 4 German Shorthaired Pointers and am involved in GSP rescue (Mid-Atlantic German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue; ... My daughter has two GSPs, my sister has had five. Bede Maxewll's book was the first book on the breed I purchased after I bought my first GSP 30 years ago. No other book ever came close. She traced the breed back to the standards in Germany. It turned out that my first GSP was from some of those standards, both international and dual international champions. Since then, I have used the book often. I just purchased my 4th copy because it seems every time I loan it out it never comes back. It's a great source of information on German Shorthaired Pointers and a must own for anyone interested in the breed.



3. Excellent book for breeders, or anyone who is fascinated by the GSP breed history! Second only to Georgina Byrne's classic "Der Deutsch-Kurzhaar."

1. This is a great book for the person who wants to know the history of the GSP. There is alot of information on the breed and where it came from and is going. If you think this book is going to give tips on specific training for the GSP it does not!! Over all it is a good book if you want to learn the history of your GSP past and present. This book also gives names and {BLK/WHT} photos of champions.



2. This not a "how to" book, rather an updated story of the German Shorthaired Pointer. Up to date and accurate. The very best since C. Bede Maxwell's fine book from 1982. If you want to know the history and the direction of the breed in America this is the best thing available.



3. Robert McKeown gives a through knowledge of the history of the german shorthair without being bias. Robert gives alot of factual data of how the blood lines where developed from imports to what the gsp is today and the future. Robert McKowen includes every type of organization that evaluates our hunting/show partners if its navhda, nstra, field trials, bench shows,or the hunt tests. He has listed every champion from bench to field that has shaped of what the gsp is today in the U.S. If you are a proud owner, breeder, or just wanting to learn about the "greats" that started the german shorthair in the U.S. this book is for you. Great book I really enjoyed reading.



4. Mr. McKowen picked up where C.D.Maxwell left off. This is the breed bible. Mr. McKowen's extensive experience and knowledge of the breed affords novice owners and people researching the breed with a wealth of valuable information. The book also provides veteran owners with a nicely organized reference. Required reading!



5. I really enjoyed this one. So much information and so wonderfully presented. Even if you don't like GSP's, you WILL after reading this book!

You are not reading a book that was how they did it in them Good Ole Days. The info and photos are all for todays German Shorthaired Pointer. If it misses anything I for one do not know what that maybe.

2. I read the reviews - I should have taken them seriously. We adopted a pointer from the shelter and knew nothing about the breed. Have found more out on the internet than this book. More about how to care for dog in general.

1. This book is intended for those considering the breed, and it is a wonderful and funny introduction. It is also a fine book for those who have owned GSPs before to enjoy and reflect on their experience with the breed. A must for a person considering getting the breed for the first time. It is in depth about the breed history, standard, and breed character. Not a training guide, but that is not its apparent purpose. Read this one BEFORE you get a GSP.



2. We love our adopted shelter GSP dog and when were thinking of one, we bought this invaluable book. Excellent information, characterization of the breed and written with humor. This book is for current owners and potential owners. We love our dog and use this book as a reference when we have questions on him. This book accurately described his temperant, needs and how to care for him.



3. Nancy Campbell captures the true essence of the breed in her personal, up-close approach. Her descriptions of what makes the GSP special, I found are accurate and heart warming. Not only is the book informative and extremely well organized, it is also fun reading! I especially liked some of the training techniques. I have tried them and they work.

   Becoming breed knowledgeable is extremely important so that the rate for abandonment and shelter turn-ins can lessen over time. Nancy arms the reader with more than enough information to make an educated decision "about everything GSP"! I personally recommended this book to several people over the last year and they have all reported that this book was a valuable tool in their decision making process!

1. Ordered, but never received. Seller sent the wrong books, I returned the wrong books at my cost. Money was refunded, but I lost in paying for the shipping of the wrong books! Grrrr...



2. This book provided nothing you couldn't read on wikipedia. I regret wasting money on it.



3. This book is full of information about the breed itself and how to properly train you pointer for house and hunting. I found it very informative!

1. Dave Gowdey is obviously a man who enjoys his dogs, and this book reflects this. Unlike other GSP books this one shows the GSP personality through anecdotes and insights into this breed through years of ownership.The basic origins of the German Shorthair are outlined, and the typical hunting attributes of this companion foot hunting breed. Picking a puppy gives invaluable advice and using positive training and dog behaviour observations rather than the electric collar Dave Gowdey explains clearly how to develop a youngster into a well trained happy hunting dog that will give its owner satisfaction and enjoyment in owning a GSP they trained themself.
   I found this book easy to read with a good flow and I recommend it to intending and novice GSP owenrs, and those who like to hunt wild game with their family companion dog.
