- As a breeder of both Mastiffs & Bullmastiffs, I believe the author has a good knowledge of the breeds, but has different opinions on some issues that show his bias toward the Bullmastiff.
A good book with alot of good information and well worth reading.
- This book was well-written and quite intriguing with a great deal of history of the breed(s). I found the pictures interesting, yet would have preferred to see more pictures of mastiffs & bullmastiffs from the United States. The AKC breed standard in the U.S. is slightly different from the International Standard, so when showing a dog in the U.S., it would be more helpful to see champions from this country. The author went to a great deal of trouble in ascertaining these breed's histories, and sometimes the reader gets lost in "who is who" because the author throws in so many different names of breeders and kennels. However, the author's candor in giving his opinion about certain things is refreshing and entertaining.

- This book gives pretty good general dog care suggestions. Does not provide very much specific information on Bullmastiffs. It is the most readily available book on Bullmastiffs.
- if youve never owned a dog before and your after general dog care then this book will do. but if your after information on bullmastiffs you wont find it here, maybe a few pictures but thats it. try "the peerless protector" by Geraldine M. Roach or "the bullmastiff manual" by Bill Walkey
- i agree with other reviewers who posted comments in amazon.com, this is a dog care book with some bullmastiff photos only, i would recommend bullmastiff fanciers to try : "The Mastiff and Bullmastif Handbook" by Douglas Oliff instead.

- This book is an excellent source of information on the bullmastiff. Through this book did I fall in love with the breed. It has valuable information on what to look for in a breeder as well as the health concerns for the breed. As a first time owner of a bullmastiff, this book allowed me to become more familiar with the background of the breed. There is more information on showing a bullmastiff then I wanted, but this book was especially helpful.
- I am awaiting my first bullmastiff pup and I was looking for advice primarily on care and training. In this book, although it did have some good information on care, very little had to do with trainng and day to day life with your bullie. There was extensive information on the development of the breed in Canada, U.S. and Europe which I wasn't particularly interested in. There was also a lot of good info on breeding, which I was also not interested in. If you are a potential "pet" owner, I do not recommend this book very highly
- ...this is the one to buy. As a first time Bullmastiff owner, I bought multiple books on the breed. This book gives a great historical review of the breed, what to expect, advice on care, training and breeding. It also includes show winners, pedigrees and notable kennels; therefore a great resource for anyone that is going to be involved with the breed. This book is thorough and detailed, and out of all the books I have read on Bullmastiffs, the best and most accurate one based on the day to day life with my Bullmastiff.
- This book was one of the first ones about this breed that I purchased to do my research. My family has more than 20 years of experience in the world of dogs (showing, breeding, raising and training) but this breed was a new one for me -- and the book was very informative (in my opinion, a "must have" for any prospective Bullmastiff owner). After doing the research, I located the authors and purchased a dog from them. The authors were very personable and their knowledge of breeding for the 'betterment' of the breed is evidenced in their bloodline. I will be purchasing several copies of this book to give out to others down the road who may become part of my own breeding program in the years to come.
- I, like the reader's review before me, grew up in the dog show world with sporting breeds being my family's breed of choice. As I became an adult, able to decide on a breed of my own to raise and show, I developed an avid interest in the Bullmastiffs.
Through local channels, I was put in contact with the authors of this book who ultimately sold me the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning -- my Bullmastiff (who is six years old now). These authors have done all Bullmastiff fanciers a favor by putting their decades of knowledge about the breed in this book. It covers all aspects of the breed and answers many questions for both novice and expert fanciers.
Having witnessed first-hand the lineage of their breeding program, I can attest to the fact that they practice what they preach. This book has become my "Bullmastiff Bible" throughout my endeavor to build upon a kennel of my own. Highly recommended reading for anyone considering the addition of a Bullmastiff to their family setting.

- Firstly, I'm not related in any way although I have the same surname. Secondly, I have met the author on two seperatet occassions for a couple of hours and did acquire a puppy from him. So it could be said I'm biased but on the other hand I have a brief insight as to where he's coming from. Well, now to the book. It covers all aspects of ownership that one would need to know - from general ownership to preparing to enter shows. Aswell as the history of the breed and possible origins. The book is written in a way that explains 'why things are' and not just that 'they are', especially in regard to how your dog is built. I have read other Bully books and found they don't all cover those essentially daily ownership issues. This would be a must have on your bookshelf to anyone that is really serious about owning this type of dog. After reading it you'll probably find it'll turn into a starting reference for many enquires you may have. In summary: Readable, sound, practicle and written by someone whose dedicated decades to the breed. Buy it!
- I bought this book in the hope that it would give me some insight in to the characteristics and personality of a bullmastiff. This book is good if you re wishing to breed your pet, but not very helpful for general owner information ie personality of your bed, training methods etc.

5 comments about Bullmastiffs Today (Book of the Breed).
- This book is a "must buy" for your library if you own a Bullmastiff. The author presents significant details about Bullmastiffs that are helpful to all owners, especially first-time owners. Ms. Pratt provides details on many questions and concerns owners have about Bullmastiffs including the Bullmastiff's origins, character, training, care, & choosing a puppy and how to care for it. The author then explains the breed's standards (both U.S. and International,) explains and gives suggestions on "showing" the bullmastiff in conformation shows, and provides detailed drawings and explanations of "faults" that one must look for in the breed. She follows up with chapters concerning breeding and rearing, along with proving pictures of Bullmastiff Champions throughout the world including the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Spain, & France. I found this book a great source of information in choosing our bullmastiff and caring for it. The book was easy to read, and once you started reading it, was difficult to put down.
- If your only interest in buying this book is info about show dogs, you're in good hands. If you're just looking for info about the dogs as pets, about half the book is relevant. Maybe. Well written and informative, but a little too rah-rah. The dogs seem to do everything but walk on water and heal the sick. There's definitley a void of information about health problems and downsides of owning one.
Great for owner and showsters, but not for people looking for general information about a potential pet. Unless you're really into looking at pictures of canine orthodontia.
- I do not agree with everything this author states. Overall I think this to be a well done book.
- Lyn's work spans years and years of work the value of which is often missed by novices. When you learn to walk, you first must crawl. If a person reads this book as a foundation of the Bullmastiff breed, s/he will be able to hold his/her head up with the best. If you don't you will forever be stumbling through the halls of Bullmastiff fame. The building blocks are here in her book, enjoy them and the years of work Lyn has put in to attain this knowledge, you'll always be glad you listened to Lyn, I am, she has always been my Mentor - thank you Lyn!
- IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BULLMASTIFF,READ THE BOOK FIRST AS LYN PRATT IS A VERY KNOLEGABLE BREEDER AND GOOD JUDGE IT,S A BOOK YOU CANT PUT DOWN UTILL YOU READ IT FROM COVER TO COVER

4 comments about God Believes in You.
- At first, I thought this was just another overly-sweet rhyming Pollyana-ish sort of picture book. I was wrong! The repetition of the title line makes for a powerful message, but the events in Buddy's day are what holds the reader's attention. It is a gently potent reminder for all ages, and the artwork is gorgeous.
- The author's beloved bullmastiff, Buddy, is having a bad day. Left alone to guard the house, he is taunted by the neighborhood cats, who know he can't touch them. Will this day ever end?
Buddy's day is a metaphor for the doubts & anxieties all children face, especially from their peers. GOD BELIEVES IN YOU is a soothing reminder for child & adult alike, that God will always be there, if you give Him a chance.
Rebeccasreads highly recommends GOD BELIEVES IN YOU which is charmingly written in verses, & once again Holly Bea has teamed up with the superb illustrator Kim Howard, who obviously adores Buddy too.
- God Believes in You is a children's Christian picturebook with an abiding message of faith and love. Following the adventures of a bull mastiff named Buddy, who must cope with a day at obedience school, the veterinarian, an unfriendly encounter with fire department dalmatians, and more, God Believes in You closes with the profound message that even though life can be challenging, God is always there for Us. Slightly stringy and whimsically enjoyable color illustrations bring the heartwarming tale and its simple message to vibrant life.
- Holly Bea and Kim Howard have created another wonderful, non-denominational story of faith and joy for all children. With a story boys and girls will relate to and love, and bright, warm illustrations, this book gives kids a message of support and encouragement they will carry in their minds throughout the day. The rhyming helps the message stick, and what a wonderful message for all children to know and believe!

- I found the book to be extremely informative. There is a lot of information that is useful in all aspects of caring for your Bullmastiff. It is a tool that I reference frequently.
- I found this book to be disappointing. It wasn't very Bullmastiff specific, and I was appalled at some of the advice in it. Don't EVER give your Bullmastiff puppy, puppy food!
- I've searched for a book just about Bullmastiffs, not Mastiffs in general and it's very hard to find. This book has tons of information that has helped me take better care of my babygirl(my dog daughter). Her name is Superstition Mountain Molly Dean Samantha Collins. (I know it's long but wanted to put both parents' names in there, plus we just call her Sammie or Sam) Anyway, thanks again.
