  1. Found this book to be the answer to all. Very enlightening!

  2. Just had to comment on The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beagles...a couple of years ago I decided that I'd like to have a beagle again...I had one during my teen years...and thought that a little research was in order. I was right and this book covered so many facets of beagle behavior that I realized that I would have to learn to accomodate if I was to have a meaningful realtionship with one of the little darlings. The book gave me a much better idea of what my expectations should be and what kinds of compromises and precautions I would have to make to make beagle ownership a joy and not a trial for both me and the dog.

Both Poochie and I give it five stars!

  3. Having grown up with a beagle, I thought I knew this breed, but author Kim Campbell Thornton pleasantly surprised me with new facts and insights into all that is Beagle. Her book covers everything you need from nose to the white tip of the tail. I especially enjoyed the Beagle Bonus pullout boxes. This is a must read for anyone blessed to have a Beagle in their life.

  4. This book is helpful to any beagle owner. It covers all of the basics and goes into plenty of detail for just about anything you might want to know about your beagle or to consider when thinking about welcoming a beagle into your family. The book does go into quite a bit of detail about breed standards and AKC events and whatnot. Unfortunately if you don't have an AKC registered dog none of this pertains to you. Good intentions abound, but the level of snobbery in the AKC will keep plenty of good dogs (maybe even better *gasp* dogs) from field and agility trials. This isn't a downfall of the book, but if you're like me and have a rescued or adopted beagle, or even one thats just been fixed, much of this book is useless as it pertains to AKC or Nat'l Beagle Club trials and events. I would have liked to see just a little more coverage of training and behavioral issues, but the information overall is pertinant and usefull. Whether you have a registered beagle or not this book is a good tool and packs plenty of bang for the buck.

  5. As the owner of a rescue beagle, I found this book to be incredibly helpful. This book provides a full range of history about this delightful breed of hound. I was able to determine what materials and equipment my hound would need. It is an excellent book for all owners of beagles, from happy pet owners to people interested in showing their hounds. My beagle is a lovable and trusty pet, so I was mainly interested in the parts aimed at pet owners.

A good book and no doubt beagle owners and those who love beagles will enjoy it as well.

  1. This is a great book for anyone who has a new beagle or who is thinking about getting a beagle. Everything you need or want to know is right here. I definitely reccommend it.

  2. This book is an excellent manual of beagle care from breeding to health care to show preparation. The photographs are superb and the authors have really done their homework in presenting the information. The book is written in a plain, clear style that will not only sustain the readers' interest, but will also help keep readers informed about the care and temperament of this wonderful breed.

As the owner of a beagle, I am so glad this book exists. For people who are "prospective beagle owners," I would highly suggest that they do get a beagle and see what wonderful companions and loving pets beagles really are.

  3. I love beagles and this is a terrific book. Beagles are my favorite dogs. They are the reason I'm involved in the animal rights movement. Beagles are a special dog, and David and Hazel know what they're talking about. God bless them both.

  4. A wonderful book for people new to the Beagle breed. As a beagle owner, I found this book a must have and I give it a four paws up! ~Timothy Glass, author of the Sleepytown Beagle book series for children

  5. Great little book for a first time beagle owner. It is very easy to read and has some cute beagle pictures.

  1. As the owner of a beagle, I thought this was a mediocre book. The grammar is poor, but it does offer good factual information about the breed. The author, in an effort to be "equal opportunity" uses the names "Sam" and "Rosie" as generic male and female beagles. It seems that a more effective approach would be to say "beagles" without using names.

Kraeuter's book entitled "Training Your Beagle" is a much better book and was very helpful. Beagle owners will no doubt love her book.

  2. Information is ok, but the writing is clunky and the index needs work.

  3. Having had a beagle before I had a little experience, but felt I should probably do some reading again before getting my next. It's a must have book for current beagle owners, but it's even more worthy if you read it beofre obtaining your beagle. Very well laid out book and a pleasure to read.

  4. Certainly an informative book, although I would like to see more suggetions on how to handle beagle-specific behaviors.

  5. Good book to read for the new beagle owner. I have owned one for 5 five years and still learned much from this book

  1. When Ella inherits her great-aunt's beagle, Trumpet, she has mixed feelings about the dog's high-energy, face-licking greetings. It was nice to have someone always so incredibly happy to see her, but Trumpet was so wiggly! The big trouble, though, came at music practice. As a serious voice student, Ella practiced singing every day after school, and again after dinner. The trouble was that Trumpet thought she was a singer, too, and every time Ella sang, Trumpet howled. The louder Ella sang, the louder Trumpet howled. How could Ella practice?

It may be hard for kids in general to identify with Ella's vocal talents, but there are good themes of working hard for a goal, and the value of friends to help you achieve your goals. With a girl protagonist, girls are the more likely readers, but Trumpet is hilarious, lively entertainment if a boy reads the book.

This is the second book in a series of adventuresome dog books -- some more girlie than others. (See my reviews - Runaway Retriever (Pet Trouble), Mud-Puddle Poodle (Pet Trouble), Bulldog Won't Budge (Pet Trouble).) It is not necessary to read Runaway Retriever first, but it is fun if you do, because this book references the same kids and a few of the same events. Great for ages 9-12.

  2. My 11 year old daughter brought this book home and we decided to read it together in the evenings before bed time. Normally we do two chapters a night. This story was actually so suspensful that we snuck in an extra chapter or two a couple of times and finished early. We just had to know what would happen to Ella and Trumpet.

Wonderful story of a studios girl who learns to find another side of herself with the help of her new dog. Any pet lover will enjoy. My daughter and I found ourselves laughing out loud a few times at Trumpet's antics.

Can't wait to read the next book in the series and now we are going to have to go back to the first book and find out about Parker's naughty dog.

  3. My wife and I bought this title for one of our grandsons who has a Beagle. We do believe he will enjoy reading it.

  1. Lucy on the Loose is about a dog that gets on the loose. The owner chased the dog all over town. I couldn't put it down because it was so exciting!

  2. I am 7 years old and I think this book is a very good book.
This book is about 2 boys that lost Lucy the dog and find her at the
baseball game. They meet a lady who wants her cat. The boys told her that she had an orange cat and they said they had seen her cat because Lucy was chasing her cat. At the end of the story the cat was sleeping and the dog was tired and the boys have a party.

  3. I work with children who are either having problems reading or who are possibly having self esteem problems in the regular classroom. I bring my pet partner (bitsie a miniature daschund) into the school and the children (who are chosen by their teacher) read to her. I have been able to see them loose shyness and gain more confidence in their ability to read as the year has progressed. There are about 10 teams of dogs and their partners going into a local school and the kids really enjoy seeing them. I have found that short chapter book such as this are very good books for them to read.

  4. A fine book for early readers. Lacks in substance, very predictable, yet still fun.

  5. The book is so awesome. I loved it. It's a good book for me because my dog ran away and her name was Lucy. I am 7 years old. I loved her so much just like Bobby did.

  1. This book has been an absolute Godsend! We just got Baxter 3 and 1/2 weeks ago, he's now almost 12 weeks old and neither myself or my husband have had a dog since we were children. So we were clueless!

We're doing everything the author says to do regarding housetraining, crate training, etc. and it is working wonderfully. We purchased a few other books as well, but this one is proving to be the most helpful by far.

Kristine Kraeuter is the Beagle Pro and other reviews that I read about this book prompted me to buy it and I am elated I did.

Thank you so much! If anyone who is considering a Beagle puppy, this book is for you!

  2. This book started off to be very helpful, but then we don't plan on showing our beagle, so a lot of the chapters weren't geared for our purposes. But again, this is just our opinion. Good reading.

  3. this book definately helped me to understand my pup. i was able to teach him to shake in just one ten minute session. but it does lack on more extensive tricks and training. but i love the different games it recommends.

  4. This book is very helpful in learning about Beagles. Buy the book before the puppy. Information was very helpful in training my puppies.

  5. This is an amazing book. In a short time you can change your beagle behavior. But you need patience and a lot of love for yor Beagle.

  1. Dont know why they call it FOR DUMMIES as it is pretty in-depth for a beginner book. If you get one book this should be it.

  2. This was a good book, but most of it is basic dog care, gave some good background on Beagles, and I would recommend it for a basic reference.Easy read

  3. Sadly I bought this book after we purchased our beagle. But the happy ending is my daughter and husband love him and he loves their big back yard and their chocolate lab.

  4. This is a very handy book. It is well organized and well written. I can find whatever I need quickly. It is well indexed. As a first-time Beagle owner, I have found this book to be just what I need. I highly recommend it to others.

  5. This is a great guide for Beagle owners it has great advice on key topics that are required for owners and prospective owners to understand.

  1. This cute little book (29 pages, excluding the title page and so forth) is another excellent example of the work of the incomparable Charles M. Schulz. In this book, the Peanuts gang prepares for Easter. Well, they all prepare, except for Linus who tries to tell the other children that they don't need to prepare because the Easter Beagle will take care of everything. Nobody believes Linus, but boy are they in for a surprise!

When I was a child, I absolutely loved the Peanuts, and I am so pleased that my own children have now fallen in love with those same funny characters. This book is large and attractive, with brightly colored pictures that are sure to please the young reader (and Peanuts fans of all ages). My children and I highly recommend this book to you!

  2. Amazon should be more clear in the description that this is a tiny little book! I thought I was getting a great deal on a hardcover book, this book is about 3"x3"! Which is fine, if that is what you are looking for. I think the size should be more clearly marked!

  3. This book is tiny at about 2 inches by 2 inches. The story is longer than I like to I like to read for a bedtime story and the words are so small that they are hard to see! I love Peanuts stories, but this book was a huge disappointment!
