5 comments about Hijacking Catastrophe: 9/11, Fear And The Selling Of American Empire.
  1. You might consider buying this one and giving it to everyone you can think of. It's preaching to the choir of course: most of us who see it understand that the NeoCon group's approach to foreign policy is horrifyingly similar to that of Gary Cooper in HIGH NOON (the quintessential go-it-alone guy.) It's amazing to watch this film and realize how long the propaganda has been coming at us, manipulating us through our fears. If you're worried about the Wolfowitz/Rumsfeld/Bush triumverate and their quest for empire, this will only make you worry more. It's a very unsettling movie. At times, you might find yourself wishing you could turn off the background music, which is a bit melodramatic. But all told, this is an urgently important film - I only wish we could figure out how to get the Bush supporters to watch it. Any suggestions?

  2. This is an excellent collection of interviews on the subject of the neoconservative counterrevolution in Washington, and the strategies surrounding 9/11 and the war in Iraq. Behind the public statements of the administration lie the deeper motives of the operation: control of dwindling resources, intimidation with a display of military strength, and a neoconservative philosophy promoting an explicit imperialism. Exploiting the anxieties of the 9/11 catastrophe is the crux of the propaganda game. The text includes interviews with Tariq Ali, Chomsky, Benjamin Barber, Chalmers Johnson, and Shadia Drury who provides an interesting commentary on the hidden Straussianism of the neoconservative clique.

  3. First, I saw this as a documentary on a DVD of the same name, and that is how I plan to review this item. Produced by the Media Education Foundation, it most effectively presents the argument that the Bush administration "sold" the war via the most popular conduit of news - television. Using video news clips from mainstream media such as FoxNews, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS, as well as interviews with extraordinarily credible officials and experts, Hijacking Catastrophe describes in chilling visual format how the NeoCons used 9/11 to push the country to accepting a military solution in fighting terrorism. Awful in its implications, this documentary should be seen by everyone who feels violated and mislead by our leaders. And some way should be found to show this to friends and family who still prefer the sleep of the deluded. I certainly wish I had the funds to buy thousands and leave them in every mailbox in the county.

  4. Nothing new here. Anyone with the lights on knows what has been going on since the rise of the Bushies. This film, however, patches together much of the key information that helps blow away the smokescreen hoo-ha that the neo-cons have invented to sell their agenda. These cats (Bush, "Wolf"owitz, Cheney et. al.) make the Romans seem like schoolyard pranksters. There is only one problem with this film: it promotes the very thing it is trying to dispell ---- fear. All in all a great counterpunch but I suspect it will be another example of preaching to the choir.

  5. "Hijacking Catastrophe" is a well-researched educational documentary of the 9/11 attacks, the context that gave birth to them, and the way the US government has used them to promote its preconceived plan to solidify American empire through a global War on Terrorism. Unlike many other 9/11 films, like "Loose Change" and "Improbable Collapse" (both worth seeing), this film does not speculate about government complicity, it merely explains the roots of the neoconservative philosophy--a philosophy that does not shirk at deceiving the public to advance its selfish economic and political goals. Note, however, that this is not the DVD. This is the book version. Unfortunately, as of this writing, the DVD is not available on Amazon. If possible, you'll definitely want to get your hands on a copy. Along with "Hijacking Catastrophe," I would also recommend the DVD "9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions" and David Griffin's incisive, and well-argued book, "The New Pearl Harbor". Both are invaluable for understanding the inherent contradictions and scientific absurdities of the official 9/11 story.

    j.w.k.

5 comments about The Terror Enigma: 9/11 and the Israeli Connection.
  1. Justin Raimondo is a truly brave American. I can't imagine the risks he takes on Anti War. com: using his own name and picture. Moreover, the author is the reason I am boycotting google. It's a dark time when the author was given the big brother treatment, at the insistence of the U.S.'s #2 terrorist group, the JDL, from the company which assisted in the Chinese government's censorship of internet.

  2. I think this was the first book I read about 9/11. It certainly contains some frightening revelations and indications of Israeli, and American, foreknowledge of 9/11. The best part of the book deals with Sibel Edmonds' experiences translating for the FBI and what she was threatened with when she complained about outrageous, and indeed treasonous, behavior to her surpervisor.

This book should be read if you have the time, otherwise I'd recommend jumping into the books, films, and websites that directly expose 9/11 as the false flag op that it was.

  3. Justin is one of the best editors of one of the best web sites for liberty on the Net. His compilation of facts gleaned from both mainstream and less-well-known sources lays out an unassailable case indicting a pernicious group and collaborators.

The Lobby's efforts to stifle any criticism of Israel shows up in fine fettle in the efforts of some brownshirts to trash his work. Won't work folks, at least not on intelligent people.

  4. All 12 of the one-star reviews of this book are high on polemics and offer zero (that's right, please read them all) factual basis as to why Raimondo's thesis is flawed, let alone the work of a raving KKK member. Rather, he's covered in great length how the far-right in Israel and their friends here in the U.S. have carried out a policy of hubris and violence. The neoconservative movement has been throughly debunked by Justin and other editors of antiwar.com. They've gone to great lengths to show that it is neither in Israel nor the United State's long-term interest to get embroiled in more quagmires like we did in Iraq. Five years before the mainstream media was calling Iraq a mess Raimondo had already called the cards that were going to be dealt. The pro-war party that drives the spy rings surrounding 9-11 will not be good for Jews in the long-run, as anti-semetism will become a real phenomenon (not anti-neoconism) if such policies continue. This book is required reading along with Mearshimer and Walt. Until the 1-star brigades provide factual evidence (not hot air) as to why Raimondo is not only incorrect in his conclusion, but also a raving anti-semite, I say read on.

  5. I have been reading Justin Raimondo's columns. Unfortunately, most often (over 95% of time), when I follow his references, they are very shallow and from non-credible websites/sources. If one bases his conclusions and reasonings on flawed and non-credible sources, then such conclusions should be very seriously questioned.

Unfortunately, that trend is evident in this book also: shallow references, baseless or illogical conclusions, non-existing sources, ill-intentions, and unsubstantiated claims. Once a reader finishes a couple chapters, the author's lack of credibility becomes so overwhelming that one loses interest or any motivation to continue.

  1. This book started out as a good overview of terrorism. How words will define the reality of a situation, how terrorism depends on the media for the terror effect, how terrorist attacks are random while still having a target, and a fairly good discussion of how terrorism is defined. However, at about the halfway point, the book became too focused towards the ETA, a terrorist organization supporting Basque nationalists. This book went from a discussion of terrorism, to a discussion of how the police were abusing their power while trying to fight the ETA. I suppose it covered the topic well, but it was annoying because I wanted a book on terrorism in general, not a book about the ETA and the police.

3 comments about Stalin and the Kirov Murder.
  1. Stalin hatched a devious plot to assassinate his comrade in arms Sergei Kirov. The " Congress of Victors" , that is the Congress of the Communist Party which celebrated the fulfillment of the First 5-year Plan, convened and secretly voted to have Stalin replaced. This was a secret protest vote against the brutality used enforcing Stalin's 5-year plan, which involved the starvation of 7 million in the Ukraine, millions more sent to the gulag to perish in slave labor, as well as millions of deportations of peoples to remote resettlement areas. All the while the Soviet regime was exporting grain in exchange for Western industrial expertise and machinery in order to comply with Stalin's massive heavy industrial buildup. It is for these reasons that the Congress secretly voted for Sergei Kirov to replace Stalin as the leader of the Bolshevik regime. Stalin's leadership was considered disastrous. Kirov was one of the most popular Bolshevik leaders, and therefore wa! ! s the choice of the Congress. Stalin had the vote falsified, and after the Congress adjourned, plotted to avenge himself against the 1000 members of the Congress and against Kirov personally. He plotted with his secret police, and then carried out an incredibly bold assassination of Kirov. He then launched one phony investigation after another in which he blamed the act of terror on different groups. He created an hysterical witchhunt atmosphere, which he used as the basis for his purges and show-trials of the thirties. All in all, there were four different phony explanations that were carefully laid out one after the other over time to explain Kirov's assassination. But the real criminal was none other than Stalin himself. During the purges of the thirties, almost every member of the "Congress of Victors" was murdered, thus earning them the title "Congress of Victims". This book puts the issue of Stalin's guilt, long suspected, beyond doubt, and is also ! ! a fascinating crime story. Robert Conquest is one of the to! p scholars of the Stalinist tyranny. Since the book was written before the fall of communism, the newly opened secret Russian archives will supply fascinating confirmation of this book.

  2. As a brutal manipulator of people, there are few historical figures that can match Joseph Stalin. However, there was a time when he was not absolute ruler of Russia. There was a key point in the early thirties when the block of remaining old Bolsheviks seemed to be coming together with some of the newer figures to mount attacks on Stalin to reduce his power or even have him removed as leader. This opposition was jelling around Sergei Kirov, the leader of the Leningrad party and a member of the ruling Politburo. In 1934, Kirov was assassinated by a dissident party member, thereby removing the focus of the anti Stalin opposition.
In this book, the author describes the events of the crime in great detail, including how, in a very short time, the witnesses also began dying, as well as those who witnessed their dying. After describing the events, Conquest goes to great lengths to present an even-handed reconstruction and finally conclude that the murder and subsequent deaths of all others involved were at the orders of Stalin himself. While you cannot help but admire his principles in avoiding any leap to the result, there is no question Stalin was the force behind the events and that conclusion can be reached well before the author does.
In criminal trials, circumstantial evidence can be very convincing and in this case it is overwhelmingly so. The pattern of deaths and forced confessions of high ranking officials is clearly one that could not have been managed by anyone not possessing power on the order of Stalin. Having Kirov murdered was the first step in his final movement to absolute power and he of course succeeded, with consequences that destroyed many people.
Stalin was responsible for the death of millions of Soviet citizens at the hands of their fellow citizens, all directly traceable to his policies. However, there is one death that stands out and made more difference than all the others. This is an account of how that death took place, and is an example of how power can be executed by a policy of execution. It is an excellent example of how the Soviet Union was governed under one of the most brutal men the human race has produced.

  3. In 1934 Sergei Kirov, friend and colleague of Stalin, member of the Moscow Politburo and Secretary of the Leningrad Party Organization was shot down and killed by a gunman. Stalin, terribly upset by the death of his comrade, organized all the power of the state and Party to hunt down the killers.

Of course, as always with Stalin, there was a subplot. Bolshevist leaders from all over the Soviet Empire had voted to replace the frightening Stalin with the supposedly more moderate Kirov. Anyway, Kirov was dead and the raging Stalin set about systematically and cynically to ferret out the antirevolutionary killers. It was much like throwing a stone into the water. There's the initial splash and then rings of wavelets spread out from the center. There are the initial arrests with torture, confessions and executions. The next tier of suspects are arrested with torture, confessions and executions. Then the third tier ad infinitum. Before it is over, more than one million Communist Party members die and the Soviet officer corps--with the death of 50% of the officer class--are dead, lubricating the way for the Nazi invasion.

How could it happen? It happened with the death of Kirov. Conquest offers fascinating evidence that Kirov's murder--and the murder of hundreds of thousands--was Stalin's doing.

Ron Braithwaite author of novels, "Skull Rack" and "Hummingbird God", on the Spanish Conquest of Mexico

1 comments about Pentagon 9/11.
  1. Almost 6 years after the 9/11/2001 attack on the Pentagon, a book has come out that tells the whole story and answers many lingering questions. This well written and richly illustrated book by the staff historians from the Historical Office, Office of the Secretary of Defense is a moving description of what happened at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Of particular interest are the number of pictures, many never before seen, that show the incredible damage the building sustained. In addition, there are photos that show pieces of the hijacked airplane lying between the inner corridors--evidence that it was in fact an airplane and not a missile that struck the building (as some conspiracy theorists have opined). The personal narratives are gripping and give the reader a true sense of the events of the day. The book has a number of diagrams that allow you to really follow the events of that tragic day. All in all, this is a fantastic book and well worth the purchase price.
