4 comments about The Lambkins.
  1. The Lambkins is worth your money for the illustration alone! Mr. Keegan is a great young illustrator whose talent and passion for his subject manner is a sight to behold.

  2. It's been a while since I was totally drawn into a book, but this one had me right there in the doll house with them. The characters are well rounded, the plot is great and Mrs. Sheperd's totally looney! I loved it down to the very end, when I sat on the tip of my seat, heart pounding. Great read, highly recommend to kids or adults.

  3. This is the story of a boy who gets kidnaped by a seemingly-helpless old lady when he stops to help her with a flat tire.

That's when things start to get weird.

He wakes up small. Small enough to fit in a doll house. He and several other children have been shrunken by the lady (using technology invented by her now-dead husband). It's clear she's not all there, and that makes it scarier for the kids.

But this book is mostly about the kids' finding a way to escape, and come to terms with their lives. There is a pull in different directions for them, because the lady "gives them opportunities," like the kid who loves to write, but didn't get to in his regular life, has all the writing supplies and time, he needs, as well as a ready audience for his work (the old lady).

A thoughtful adventure book that's a good, quick read. Happy ending, too. ;)

  4. In my opinion, "The Lambkins" is a great book! I would recomend this book for anyone to read. It is an adventureous and wonderful book. The first few pages are interesting. You don't need to read the first and second chapter to see if its what your looking for. The author has a great imagination and ideas to make a book like this. When you start to read this book you'll not want to stop. Its not one of the books where you say "why bother reading this book I'm wasteing my time." This book will probably interest anyone who reads it. So have a great time and read "The Lambkins."

  1. I give this book 5 stars because of the details Martin Waddell put into it. I finished it in two days because it made me want to read more and more. You should definantly read this book!

  2. I love mysterys most of the ones I read are more like thrillers I didn't know what to epect when I picked up Suzie Q all I know is that I couldn't put it down. It's a great book

  3. I really enjoy this book it kept me on the egde of my seat the whole time I was reading it. I really thaught that Suzie Q. was ganna escape on Gerards motorcycle. I think that she could have gottin' away on his motorcycle. I like the way the book ended with her getting rescued and Dodie going to jail. I hope you enjoyed my review

  4. One wouldn't suppose that a kidnapping tale could be funny. Well, it wasn't a roll on the floor laugh-fest, but this novel did offer plenty of head-nods to irony. Suzie Q, the luckless kidnapping victim is fresh and clever and has a wry sense of humor about her. While gagged, tied up, and freezing to death she still has plenty of Irish pluck. Suspenseful and interesting, ironic and frightening, this book is wonderfully done and a pleasure to read!

  5. When I read the back of this book in the library, I thought it seemed great. When I started reading I quickly realized that no matter how good the plot was, the writing was going to make it a boring read. It was. Alot of fist person books only describes what is going on right then. This book tells both what is going on then, and little details that the character doesnt know yet at the time it is happening. For example, she says once what the kidnappers name is, but she adds that of course she didn't know that then. It just takes the excitement away.

  1. As a parent of a sexually abused child, I found this book greatly informative. I wish every parent could read this book, so that what happened to my child would never have to happen again. I also appreciated the section on laws, and how we, as parents, can get involved. I've read a lot of books on this subject, and this one is by far the best.

  1. Judith Kelman knows how to ratchet up suspense and how to tell a scary tale with humor and interesting characters.

  2. I had read and enjoyed another book by this author. I was almost embarrassed to be reading this one. The plot premise was interesting but as the story unfolded, it became wildly implausible. The ending left me unsatisfied. I did enjoy the elements of humor in the author's writing.

  3. I can, in cowboy parlance, head off some questions at the pass. Yes, Professor Stafford is Adam's dad. Bethany Logan, our heroine jumps to some very erroneous conclusions based on hearsay. Not to fear, folks, everything gets sorted out and has a nice, cute predictable ending.

To its credit, this book is well written and will hold your interest. The segments about the fugitives' flight to the island and the question of Adam's parentage are well crafted. The descriptions of the Godforsaken island are strong and vivid.

To save you a little time, Adam is NOT the child the islanders think he is. Theirs is a closed knit (not close-kit) community of old fashioned superstitions and only the merest nod to the modern era.

The professor gets Adam back and Bethany gets to keep her job.

Now that you know this story, you decide if you want to read it in full. This is the short version.

  4. Why wasn't that woman put in jail for stealing a child? I liked the authors writing style but the plot was ridiculous. A teacher would know better than to act like that woman did. I quit reading it about half way and skipped to the last chapter. I couldn't believe how it ended. No Consequences for that idiot woman?
