4 comments about CRIME OF SILENCE-C.
- This is the third book of Carlon's that I have read(all over 30 years old) and she can write!! The character development and plot are outstanding. However, and I don't want to spoil it for those who have yet to read it, I found the ending a bit unbelievable and convoluted. The motive and plan seemed unrealistic, involving a house of cards that could have fallen if only one little event hadn't played out as planned, part- icularily the reaction of the intended victim to to events he was presented with. Having said that, I wouldn't miss her next book--if there is one.
- I found Crime of Silence at my local library in the new books section - altho' written by Australian author Patricia Carlon in 1965 - it was only published in America in 1998. After the first few chapters I was hooked - while still getting used to some of the language differences. This is a great physochological thriller! I thought I had it figured out but I wasn't even close! Patricia Carlon has a masterful way of being subtlely suspenseful. I hope to find more of her novels in the US soon. I highly recommend this book to any mystery lover.
- After reading a number of highly laudatory commentaries on new "discovery" Patricia Carlon -- who's been writing mysteries in her native Australia for 30 years! -- I was greatly disappointed in the transparently manipulative "Crimes of Silence," her first book to be published statewide. The writing is so stylized as to give it an amateurish cast, the "ominous" mood is uniformly bland, the plot twists and devices are awkward and unbelievable, the clues to the ending too easily read, and the denouement utterly forgettable. I hope Ms. Carlon has improved over the years since this book was written in 1965, but I don't think I'll be waiting breathlessly to find out.
- This is the second book I have read by Patricia Carlon. I loved the storyline and the way she had you believe one thing when it turned out to be something totally different. I plan on reading each one of her books. I hope to see more from her.

- When a baby is snatched in the night, the lives of three women are forever changed.
The kidnapping of her daughter twenty-three years ago still haunts Ellie Nightingale, and her obsession with having another child is driving a wedge between her and her husband.
Kate Sutton has spent those same twenty-three years hiding the most soul-wrenching decision of her life from the rest of the world while learning to cope with her disability.
And Skyler Sutton is a champion equestrian for whom no hurdle is ever too high until she is challenged by her impossible love for a tough-talking New York City cop.
This fascinating novel is "Trail of Secrets" by Eileen Goudge. It will capture your heart in the first chapter and keep you reading until the conclusion.

2 comments about Feather.
- Feather has been captured by the Blens, the worse and the most feared enemy of her own tribe, the Wobans. Life is hard for the Blens' captives, and Feather is locked in a formidable struggle to survive. Her brother, Karsh, vows to find his sister and restore her to the tribe, but he has no idea where to start looking. Besides,he's just a boy, not yet a warrior.
The Blens are a nomadic tribe, surving by attacking other villages. They kill and capture the inhabits, stealing what they want and destroying the rest. Feather isn't used to such brutality, but she must learn to adapt if she wants to live. She holds onto the promise that there will be a day when the dark and the light are equal, broken things will be mended, and lost things will be found.
Although Feather was written for ages 9-12, readers of any age will enjoy this book. I was hooked from page one. It's an exciting story with complex characters and a terrific plot. I strongly recommend this one.
- Susan Page Davis has written an incredible fantasy adventure in Feather. Complete with a map in the front, readers will become enthralled with Davis' characters and tribes.
Feather and her brother, Karsh, are supposed to be picking berries for the village, but Karsh goes down into the cellar of the old outpost to look for treasures. As Feather begs him to come back up, she is kidnapped by Blens, a wandering tribe that raids villages, killing and stealing to get what they need.
When Karsh comes out of the cellar, he is horrified to see the Blens carrying Feather away. He runs back to his village, but the elders decide that going after Feather now would only make the Blens aware of their village. How many of their people should die to save one? Karsh understands, but cannot let Feather go. He vows to find her someday.
Feather learns how to survive as a slave to the Blens despite their brutal nature. Thankfully, a boy named Tag is kind to her and becomes a friend. Feather makes known her gift of fletching, adding feathers to arrows. If she can be useful to the Blens, perhaps they will not risk her life with beatings. While Feather travels with the Blens, she and Tag make plans to escape, waiting for the right moment when broken things are mended and lost things are found.
Feather is an exciting story of learning to survive despite strenuous obstacles. This novel might be recommended for readers ages 9-12, but readers of all ages will enjoy it. I loved this story and wish there was a sequel. (Hint, hint, Ms. Davis?)
Highly Recommended.

5 comments about Run Jane Run.
- "A.K.A. Jane" was the most exciting and definitely the best book in this genre... until "Run Jane Run" came along! This latest book from Maureen Tan is both gripping and believale, building on the strong foundation of "a.k.a.", and yet also stands brillantly on it's own. My two final words : More Please!
- In Run Jane Run, the adventure of Jane Nichols is getting more exciting than before. Jane, again, does what she does best as a premium MI-5 agent. If you have read AKA Jane, you know what she is capable to do. In Run Jane Run, she easily does it again. Alex, her lover boy, is as hip as before. Another character that I really like is Joey, Alex's beautiful, blonde, younger sister. She is completely sweet and innocent. I hope her part would be bigger in the coming series. If you like AKA Jane, you would love Run Jane Run. After all, who could resist a beautiful British brunette fighting machine with a mysterious past?
- For 10+ years I've read 2 or more books per week....the 2 "Jane" books are excellent! Characters are true to form & culture, the mystery is enthralling & has enough twists to maintain high interest but without the need to write down people etc in order to keep track. I fervently hope this woman writes more books!
- This is an attempt to make a female-oriented James Bond-type thing. Jane Nichols is an MI-5 agent who chases around the world killing terrorists, infiltrating espionage organizations, and chasing other spies. In AKA Jane she winds up hiding in Savannah, and also winds up falling in love with the local police chief. She's still living with the chief when Run Jane Run starts, but working for her old boss in MI-5 on occasion. At the start of this book, she leaves Alex (the police chief) and goes back to England, but one last mission leaves her wounded, confused, and having nightmares that bring back memories of the death of her parents when she was a small child. She flees back to Alex, and of course the bad guys follow.
There's a strange feeling to this book, difficult to figure out at first. All of the blurbs speak of the main character as a female James Bond, but of course she isn't: she's more like a character in one of Robert Ludlum's books. Then it finally hit me: this isn't really a spy novel, it's a romance novel with an espionage theme. The romance aspects of the novel are very apparent once you look at it this way, and it becomes clear that this is mainly a melodrama, not a real story. I would only recommend this book to people interested in the idea of a romance novel with espionage overtones; everyone else should look elsewhere.
- Good storyline, but the story begins to fall apart after the first half. It's good with keeping up the mystery aspect of it, but when the third act comes into play, you tend to become bored with the story. I felt that the ending was spectacular, and the beginning was just as good. But the middle was a bit of an undertone to what I came to think would be a great middle piece to an excellent story. Good read, but lacking ...just a little.

1 comments about Disappearing Act.
- Fifth in series of Kim and Marc, young HAMs using their hobby to help others. I give this story 4 stars only because it may frighten young children. In all other aspects, I rate it a 5. In this story, we learn about a search dog, Patches; how the practice drill of Fox and Hounds can be put to excellent use in real life; and how the amateur radio hobby can be useful in serious situations. Cynthia Wall has done it again. Now, I'm looking for her next book!
