- I don't know where Fielding gets it ~~ but she always manage to get me to keep turning the pages of her books! This one is so suspenseful that it was driving me nuts just to put the book down.
The book starts out with Donna Cressy fighting for the custody of her children. Her ex-husband Victor was painting a different sort of picture of Donna to get custody of the children. Then Fielding writes of the beginning of the marriage and it's downfall. Victor Cressy is the man who twists every single conversation that Donna carries with him into a raging psychological battle till you, the reader, begs for mercy! Donna begins to feel battered down and beaten ~~ not by flying fists but by the mental anguish she was going through. Nothing she did ever pleased the guy. So finally, she decided to end the marriage and the book gets even more interesting ~~ Victor told her that if she ever left him, he'd obliterate her. And he tried his best. Fielding writes so convincingly of a broken marriage and a woman's fight for survival and fight for belief in herself. She writes so convincingly of Donna's plight when Victor kidnaps the children ~~ her fear and anger and helplessness. This book is every mother's nightmare. It is also every wife's nightmare. I would not read this book at the beach or in front of the fireplace ~~ I would read it in bed with the covers over my head. This is a fright worse than monsters underneath the bed ~~ it could happen to you if it hasn't! And Fielding takes you right into a nightmarish marriage and its aftermath. She is well-known for her stories and the white-knuckle grip on the sheets, couch or wherever till the last page is turned. She won't fail you in this book! 2-7-03
- I have read one other book by this author and I really liked it. However, this with Kiss Mommy Goodbye, I couldn't beven get through the first chapter.
- Having read See Jane Run - this one lives up to the hype of Joy Fielding. I find her story line compelling and her characters fully thought out and described. her book is a complete page turner!!!!!!!! Buy it - you will not regret it!
- This was unique in the plot, but I found it somewhat confusing because it hops around slightly from the past and the present. It starts out in a courtroom where the main character is fighting for custody of her young children from her very odd husband. I am glad I read the book because it does get very suspenseful when her husband, who loses custody vanishes with her children. I just found that, although her husband is mind controlling, the main character seems a tad on the unstable side, too. I just thought she should have seen it coming, but try it, maybe I was having a mind lapse. See what you think.
- As this book was published in 1981, (it now being 2006), I thought that there would be oodles of reviews. Not so.
I took up the book based on the blurbs on the rear cover and I was in need for a page turner. Well it is a page turner. The point of view is that of the narrator, Donna. I must agree with those reviewers who wonder about the narrator. There seems to be a certain streak of madness in her. She does set up scenarios which are bound to fall unto her - it almost as if she wants to be a victim. She as narrator, does provide only her interpretation of events and I think that we as readers, should step back.
When Donna becomes "a street person", it is unclear how she is supporting herself and just how she is able to snap out of her "space". The book seems to run to its conclusion from there on it a hurry.
Yes it is a page turner, but I found the characterization of the main character too facile.

- Like the other three books, this one grabs your attention from the first page, and never lets go until the last page. You have to read these books in order or you will be lost. The only thing to makes these books better would to have a re-print having them all in one book. Great story, wonderful characters, engrossing read.

2 comments about Music to Die for: The Second Something to Die for Mystery (Nehring, Radine Trees, Something to Die for Mystery, 2nd.).
- Radine Trees Nehring is a journalist and author who writes for any occasion, be it a radio news show, a magazine story, a news story, or her second mystery. Her first mystery is entitled SOMTHING TO DIE FOR. Radine is a resident of Arkansas, and understands its rich culture and traditions.
Carrie McCrite is about as unlike a detective as a heroine can be. She goes to a tourism convention at the Ozark Folk Center State Park and decides to get involved when her charges, a famous country singing duo, Chase Mason and Tracy Teal, are pulled into murder and the kidnapping of their little girl. Dulcey has disappeared; Tracy's cousin, Farel Teal, is dead with a pair of scissors stuck in his chest, and Tracy is a basket case: "`I didn't pay any attention to who ran past me. Whoever it was went toward the auditorium real fast. There was no way to tell. It was dark...and anyway, there was Farel...' `But did you see that it was a man?' Tracy stared wide-eyed at Carrie and didn't answer." There is something awfully tantalizing about a dark, moonlit night, a Southern setting, and country music. This backdrop is sparked by romance, family feuds, and the compelling feeling of having to rescue a little girl in distress. Nehring's characters spark a plot that is easily carried by a situation that branches out into one heck of a puzzler. Nothing is as it seems, evidenced by a crooning woman called Mad Margaret, who turns in a fine performance. Carrie McCrite is down to earth, but not above a little romance with her best friend ex-cop Henry King, who charges in to the rescue at just the right moment. Nehring's action and denouement usually involve poor Carrie ruining what clothes she is in, getting bumped on the head, or scratched by vicious branches. But in the end all turns out for the best, leaving the reader sighing in satisfaction, just as if I'd indulged in a piece of either apply or peach chunky; as Nehring thoughtfully provides recipes for each at the end of this sweet and tender tale. Shelley Glodowski Reviewer
- As the Arkansas highway tourist information manager, widow Carrie McCrite attends the annual Department of Parks and Tourism Convention at The Ozark Folk Center State Park near Mountain View with several of her friends including her closest pal Henry King. Carrie especially looks forward to attending the craft classes that she signed up for and to attending the performances especially country and western stars Chase Mason and Tracy Teal, but dozes through the lectures.
However, instead of a weekend of relaxation mellowing in the remote local, all hell breaks lose. Someone abducts Farel, the four year old daughter of Chase and Tracy; however Carrie and Henry find the culprit dead and his house burned down in a deliberate fire. The child remains missing. As they work in tandem while their feelings for one another blossom Carrie and Henry desperately hope to save a little girl even at a risk to their own lives.
MUSIC TO DIE FOR is a terrific Ozark cozy that brings to life this region of the country. The mystery is cleverly designed so that the lead amateur sleuths and the audience seem to only find more questions and plenty of troubles, but no child. Henry is a delightful lead as his admiration and fondness for Carrie grow; she is an intriguing charter who when struggling asks the Lord for guidance. Fans of regional cozies will enjoy this tale and like this reviewer seek Radine Tree Nehring's first Ozark mystery, A VALLEY TO DIE FOR.

- This is great book and a fantastic love story! This is a great book that really causes true refelection and how we feel for our true friends. You really feel for Jon in the book and how hard his life had been and how he did not want to burden another person with those things. Nancy's does a fantastic job of keeping the book moving, interesting, and the time will fly while you read. I don't know about anyone else, but I have a hard time waiting until the next books arrive, because I just love the way she writes and the great stories her books tell.

- I listened to an unabridged version of this novel and almost couldn't finish it because the reader was so annoying. The author had her characters smiling or laughing all the time, and the reader interpreted this to mean she should read entire passages as if they were laughing the words. Had Allen edited for word repetition more carefully and watched for redundancy in thought, she would have had a better book overall, and I don't think the reader would have over-used her laugh. I liked the way the plot all came together in the end, but if I had been reading a hardcopy rather than listening to a tape, I know I would have had to read with a red editing pen in hand.

- This book is that rare treat - a children's book that is so multi-faceted and well told that it will capture any adult reader as well.
I found this book looking for something good for my daughter to read, then couldn't give it up to her until I had finished it! A tense, realistic, and heartwarming tale.
- I liked this book a lot. This story has action to it and a regular story line to it as well. It was very good. This book had a lot of sense to it and good detail as well as plot. I recommend this book highly! It's most enjoyable.
- as a kid i read the headless cupid many times. i remeber eading this and never finishing it for some reason now i ddi finish it. it was very good. i t is an exciting kidnapping story. if you look for something with a supernatraul twist like cupid this dosent have as much execept for blair,s vison however it still enjoyable.
- THE FAMOUS STANLEY KIDNAPPING CASE finds the same characters from Snyder's classic THE HEADLESS CUPID in Italy. Molly has inherited a little money from an uncle and they decide to spend the year in Italy so she can explore art. The story is told from the children's point of view, mainly David's. Tesser, Blair and Janey act exactly as before, almost stereotypically so. However, there is no recurrence of the spooky happenings from Blair that made CUPID so wonderful. Amanda has reverted to teenage surliness after her about-face at the end of CUPID and is (again stereotypically) a real pain about the move she doesn't want to make.
The kidnapping takes place after Amanda brags that her father is a rich movie-maker in California to impress the Italian kids in school. Instead of just Amanda, the kidnappers end up with all five Stanley children and find it is much more than they can handle. The children finally free themselves mostly by frustrating the kidnappers to no end. An enjoyable read, but not as good or memorable as THE HEADLESS CUPID.
- I have to admit that I liked "TFSKC" best of the three Stanley books. I thought Blair's visions of the Virgin Mary were perfectly in keeping with the tone of the story, being set in Italy (seat of the Roman Catholic church and all).
The characters were very *real*. I too came from a blended family and I could identify with both David and Amanda. I recently re-read the books and found them just as enjoyable this time around.
(And yes, I had to sleep with the lights on again after reading "The Headless Cupid".)
:o)

- This was a very predictable piece of erotic fluff. But really, who reads romance for the action? The love scenes were very very steamy and well written. The only fault I found was how I knew what was going to happen next. It is a plot that's been used many times before, but one I enjoy reading.
If not for the forseeable story line, this would be one of my favorites. I will definitely try Connie Mason again.
- I love this book as soon as I started this book I could not put it down. The description she used was wonderful, it has everything to deciet, to fights and a chase to find his love and great Connie Mason love scenes. This was a good an entertainting book...
If you like Connie Mason you'll love this book I don't know about a first timer they always try to leave a bad review when reading a Connie Mason novel for the first time
- Sex, sex, and more sex. How two people fall in love without ever having a conversation is beyond me. The sex scenes were very steamy but that was about all that ever occured between Jamal and Zara. A little more dialogue would have been nice.
- A great book if you want a novel filled with sex and heat, but I found the characters lacking in emotional depth and richness. The book spent a lot of time running around the desert and in bed, but not enough time developing the people in the story. I got no sence of who Jamal was, what makes him tick.
It will not live on my bookshelf, but it was worth the price of the purchase.
- O.K. I normally love Connie Mason books & although this one was still written well I found it a bit trashy. Way too much sexual encounters & not much depth. That's all that everyone in the book thought & cared about it. I can't believe life was ever like this for some women in parts of the world & the concubines in this book seemed to enjoy it way too much & seemed oblivious to the fact that they were slutty & that their way of life was wrong & for wives to just overlook the fact that it was all right for men to have all these women just sickens me.
I found it kind of funny the camel traders name went from Rachid to Rashid & back to Rachid. It wasn't just a typo because it was used many times at 3 different times in the book & changed in each section.
The writings good & the storyline isn't bad but if I had to do it over again I'd probably pass on this book. Jamal was not a likable hero & Zara was strong at fighting in battle & coming to the rescue of her loved ones but other that that I felt she was kind of weak & uncaring to what was going on around her.

1 comments about Don't Take My Child: A Parent's Guide to Keeping Our Kids Safe.
- I write this review with a heavy heart. My name is Sally Richards and I was the agent on this project. I was a personal friend of the late Don Richard and helped him conceive this book idea. Don Richard and co-author John Brodie worked very hard through this material that you may find difficult to read. But, this book may very well save your child's life. Even though I don't have children, after reading this book I now tell friends (who are parents) about things that they never considered risks before. I'm not talking about being paranoid, I'm talking about protecting your children from preditors who walk among us. It's a fact. 140,000 names were listed in the Department of Justice missing Person's Clearing House, about a third of those were children.
There are people who find your children a great temptation for their sexual fantasies and murderous thoughts. That's a fact. All you need to do is read the long lists of child predators who have been released into your neighborhoods (you can go to your local police department and demand a list) to know that this is not paranoia. These people cannot be "cured," and often when one is captured for an abduction, they're often repeat offenders. There was something in their past that pointed clearly to the fact that they would become pedophiles, or one day be capable of murder. Arm yourself with this book and the study of cases and predator behaviors and you will be in a better position to identify risks and protect your children. The words inside this book may be difficult to read; these pages tell the story of the many years of research Don and John conducted that details the thoughts and actions of men who treat children as objects of sexual pleasure. When I did the first round of editing on this book, I remember thinking how terrified I would be if raising a child in these times. Don and John were very close to their work and, at times, I had to tell them to back away, to be objective, but it was even hard for me to not loathe the people they were writing about. Finally, we came up with a book we thought told the story in a fair and helpful way that educates parents about the patterns and methods of child abductors/molesters. Read this book and keep your children safe. California Senator Richard Rainey, John Philpin, PhD, Forensic Psychologist, Francis Koopman, Esq., Lieutenant NYPD (retired) and US Senator Dianne Feinstein all endorse this book. Proceeds from this book will go to the Amber Foundation for Missing Children Sally Richards, sally@sallyrichards.com

- One day my teacher started reading this book to my class. Sheread like 1 or 2 chapters and I was hooked on the book it was so goodso after school I went and checked it out at the library and went home and read it all! I mean I couldn't put it down it was so interesting. Now it is probably one of my favorite books. So I recommend that you read the book, Deadly Stranger.
- I liked this book because it never got boring! One of my favorite parts was when Shannon jumped out of the car the lunatic was driving! It was exciting and scary!I recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, and to be scared.I really feel like reading it again and again!
- I loved this book this is my favorite book in the world i love it. I want to buy it again and read it. It kept me wanting to read on on and on. It kept me in suspence. I kept thinking what's going to happen next. I writing a review on it i would never do that for any other book but this one and i hope on the one i going to buy next, from you. It was really a great book iloved it and enjoyed it dearly. Please come out with another book like it. Thank you
- Deadly Stranger was an amazing book. I read this book for a school project, but I read it many more than one time. This book is very suspenseful and exciting, and I would definately recommend it to anyone in fifth to eighth grade.
- I believe I was about 10 years old when I got this book from either a book fair or a relative. I am now 23 and still remember how much I enjoyed it. 'Deadly Strenger' actually got me pretty interested in psychology, and I am including a reference to it in my application to graduate school. I would definitely recommend it for many "young adult" readers. As silly as it sounds, there are even a few good study tips in this book, which includes a few ways to remember things easier.
