3 comments about Hard Bounty (Pinnacle Western).
  1. Hard Bounty is one of the best westerns to come down the pike. Bounty Hunter Asa Cain and Deputy Cemetery John set out to rescue Cain's mother and sister from the Dolven gang. They run into all kinds of trouble and interesting people. Humor and laughs are sprinkled along the way. The rappor between Asa and Cemetery is very well done. The friendship that developes between them warms the heart. Ken Hodgson is one terrific writer and never lets the reader down. Hard Bounty goes on my all-time favorite westerns shelf.

  2. The book has many twist and turns. It is graphic in discribing the way people are killed. It is a great book ! Better than louis lamour. And i love lamours work

  3. Asa Cain is called the Undertaker's Friend because he brings so many dead desperatos to town. Asa is credited with 10 fold more bountys than is true but he doesn't try to change the figure because it makes his adversaries just a little bit more nervous when they face each other. And if you're nervous you tend to make mistakes. The Dolven gang makes a big mistake by killing Asas' servants and kidnapping his mother and sister.

  1. how did it end???what was resolved???...i read this book but did not find out what happened to her husband and to her family...very poorly written....

  2. I am a big fan of Jude Deveraux, and I have enjoyed every one of her books I have read, including Forever and forever always but was very dissapointed in this novel.
Maybe she will write a forth book of this series.I hope.I really liked Darcy and I love Adam and the fact that is cousin Michael Taggart,"Sweet Liar" another Jude book, is mentioned in this book.Along with some of the characters and plots intoduced in this story. But I was left unsettled by the books end.

  3. Always is the concluding story of the Forever Trilogy; the story of Adam and Darci Montgomery. In book one, Forever, Adam hires Darci as an assistant as he investigates his kidnapping when he was a child and the death of his parents. As far as Darci is concerned, she is there to raise money to get her hometown out of debt and thus freeing her from the obligation of having to marry the son of the wealthiest man there.

Darci has always known there was something "weird" about her. She could locate things and people that were lost and sometimes could perceive what would happen in the future. These abilities shamed her and she tried to hide it.

Once her and Adam were together, Darci discovered that her abilities made her special and she could use them to aid Adam in his investigation. Forever climaxes with the ultimate confrontation between Adam, Darci and the powerful witch who murdered Adam's parents. Adam also discovers that he has a sister, named Boadicea, who was kidnapped at birth and is being held captive by the witch.

Darci kills the witch's minions and the witch herself with her abilities and saves the day. Forever closes when Darci and Adam, and Darci's Dad and Boadicea, marry and both give birth to two very gifted little girls.

Forever and Always opens with the news that Adam and Boadicea have disappeared and Darci has been publicly accused of murdering them for the Montgomery money. In the midst of this, Darci's mother sends a renowned actor, named Lincoln Aimes, to Darci for help in locating his missing son.

Darci, at first refuses to help, but then changes her mind when she senses that by helping Lincoln, she'll get closer to solving the mystery of Adam and Boadicea's disappearance.

The rest of the story is really to pave the way for Darci to meet the most powerful human being on earth, psychically of course. His name is Henri and he's a very old man who has only a few months to live. His goal is to test Darci and see if she is deserving of his abilities.

The second installment, of course, closes with a happy ending and with Darci passing Henri's test with flying colors, but she is no closer to discovering what happened to her husband. That mystery will finally be solved in the third book of the trilogy: Always.

Always continues the trilogy with the introduction of Jack Rose, an undercover FBI agent who is coerced to join forces with Darci to help locate his missing billionaire father. Jack is, at first, very critical, almost violently, of Darci and her abilities, but she eventually wins him over when she helps him get rid of a malevolent spirit who has been clinging to Jack since he was born.

While in the process of locating Jack's father, Darci also has to locate certain magical objects that will help her find Adam and Boadicea. Darci and Jack's adventure take them to the past where they get rid of Jack's unwanted companion and also recover more magical objects.

The book, of course, ends with Darci's ultimate reward, the ability to undo what happened to Adam and Boadicea. As for Jack, he makes up with his father, finds the love of his life and basically lives happily ever after.

I think this is my favorite book in the trilogy. The first two were tedious as the author laid down the groundwork for the final installment but I think it was well worth it. Darci is an enigmatic and memorable character. I can only hope that Ms Deveraux will write more books with Darci as the main character.

I, however, highly recommend that you read the first two books before tackling this one. Otherwise, you'll have a hard time following the storyline.

  4. Really it ended in a way that made you think that there was going to be another book. I am very sad to see that this is a last book and that is that which almost makes it not work the read. I love Jude Deveraux's books, I really do but I haven't read a series that ended this way before. I rated it high because over all I did like the series, but as far as I'm concerned it needs to be finished. What happens?

  5. *PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS INCLUDES SPOILERS*

Having read the Forever trilogy, I will say that in my opinion Jude Deveraux really should've just stopped after Forever. Forever was WONDERFUL - you saw real love, 2 cases of it actually with Adam and Darci, who are one of my new fav couples, and Bo and Taylor, it had great characters and you knew that in the end everyone lived happily ever after. At least that is until Forever and Always when we find out Adam and his sister Bo have been kidnapped and Darci's been slandered as "the hillbilly honey" with everyone claiming she killed him. There, she had to help Lincoln find his son, which led her to Henry and Devlin. Always then picks up with her having to help Jack so that she can find Adam.

Personally, I hated forever and always. I skipped through most scenes with Linc and just read the parts about Darci and Adam or Devlin or Darci and Henry. I just HATED the character of lincoln, ESPECIALLY with how he kept lusting after her. It was sweet with ADam, cause they were soulmates and fell in love and yet he couldn't touch her till after they stopped the witch, but with Linc it just seemed dirty and wroing because Darci's already found her true love.

Always on the other hand was REALLY good in my opinion. I liked that Jack and Darci were really just good friends, like brother and sister, no lustful thoughts about unsnapping teddys, and both found true love in the end. Jack realized that he was always supposed to be with Lavender, and so he found her again in the present. I loved how Millie ended up. I love the civil war era so reading about that was great. And I LOVED ADAM DRAYTON!! It was great to see Adam Montgomery in another life, at least I assume it was him, though it would've been nice to see that Diana was actually DArci in another life (the whole "she didn't have another life" thing made sense at the end but also didn't cause does that mean that Diana's spirit is really Adam's soulmate, not Darci?). I felt Darci made the right choices here and everything ended as it should. Some say you're not sure Taylor and Bo/Elizabeth (the name Adam's parents give her cause she wasn't raised by the witch) get together, but Darci sent Taylor a note from Elizabeth asking him to come backstage at the show - since Darci and Adam's true love wasn't only because of the circumstances with the witch, you have to assume Taylor and Bo's wasn't either, so they fall in love at first sight AGAIN. As for the kids, going to the past showed that those spirits were always meant to be with Darci and Adam - they were Adam Drayton's daughters in a past life, similar names and everything, and so they'll still be Adam and Darci and Taylor and Bo's daughters in the changed present.

Here were my only complaints with the book. 1. I would've liked a better explanation of Mr. Hallbrooke, why does he suddenly want his son involved? I know Millie's spirit made JAck angry, but just saying "oh the father wants to see his son NOW walah" doesn't really make sense. 2. You never found out what happened to Adam and Bo before Darci changed it! Where'd they go? Who took them? Why couldn't Darci find them? I know she knows they were taken to test her, but WHY? What happened? There were a lot of questions that were left unanswered, instead we were just told that Darci changed it so ADam and Bo weren't kidnapped by the witch in the first place so they weren't kidnapped again years later and they end up happy the end. 3. My other complaint was how the question of controllng Devlin was never answered - just all of a sudden she could control him like a genie? 4. And most of all, WHAT THE HECK DID HENRY MEAN WHEN HE SAYS WHAT HE SAYS IN THE EPILOGUE!!!!

All in all I'd say this was not my favorite of the series, that place is held by Forever because the couple of ADam and Darci is just so amazing. But ALways is a close 2nd, and definitely WAY above forever and always for me.

  1. I could not put this book down! I loved every minute of it. In fact, the characters became so real to me that I still find myself thinking about Gloria and wondering how she is doing. I was impressed with the way the author took a very real issue from today's world and dealt with it from an LDS perspective. You can't go wrong with this book. I'm glad I own this book because I know I will read it again and again.

  3. I was unaware of an underground organization dedicated to keeping abused and wrongfully treated women and children safe. I know that these things happen, but I had not read about them before. Reading of the patience and the care and the vigilance of this woman made me grateful that good people still exist in this busy world. Ms. Kilpack is easy to read. I was warned that I would have to read it all if I started it, and the warning was right. I could not stop until I finished the story. Making decisions based on our knowledge of right and wrong, with a big dose of inspiration is possible. The bad guys don't always have it their way! Thanks for a good inspiring book.

  4. This book was very informative. Not only did I have a great read, but I learned something as well. Kilpack did her homework. This story and character felt real, alive, and I completely related to her story. I should also mention that I stayed up all night reading, and well into the next day. I was hooked from the start. A great book with acurate detail and description, so much so, that I could not see any flaws with the story line. I was completely there. Be prepared to get hooked!

  5. This book is really great. Josi is such a wonderful writer. I love all her books!

  1. i enjoyed reading the BS,
as i do most ludlum books,
enjoyable, not great, but a good read, nonetheless.

  2. I really enjoyed this book and will recommend it to my friends. I didn't see the ending coming. The minute I thought I had the plot down they twisted it. If you like this genre of 'spy action' books then I you will get your money's worth.

  3. As you (try to)read this book, you see an actual well told story...BUT with at least one Twenty-Five cent word on every page. I don't know the genius who could read this book, and not stop on one of these words and go "Huh????" If you haven't read this book, go to the book store first, thumb to ANY page and start reading. I swear 98% of the time you'll find a word you've never heard of before! Writers, this doesn't make you a better writer as your reader has to keep a dictionary next to them. Thumbs down, sorry.

  4. The book had a most vivid narration and it was exciting in many ways up and until the end. The ending for me was a bit predictable as to the identity of Genesis and I had that figured out about halfway through the book. I was disappointed in the ending somewhat as it left some holes or rather some unexplained non-closure items with the legendary field agent, Todd Belknap that conveyed his character to be weak in the end showing a dramatic inconsistency as Belknap was so strong throughout the plot line of this novel. It was as if someone else stepped in and wrote the ending and ran out of runway with "I am woman hear me roar". If I knew how it would of ended, I may not have even started reading it. Attention! Tom Cain, Author of "The Accident Man", we need your new book, Part II: "The Survivor", and in a hurry!

  5. This book simply repeats and re-blends old ideas from various novels by Ludlum, Robin Cook and others. Yes, there is considerable action in this book, but again, it seems a little overdone. How come many of the foes that the protagonist faces tend to be as competent as the protagonist and yet keep making obvious mistakes? Also, this theory that some one organization is pulling strings to change the world is simply too long running, right from James Bond times. I also find the "Castor and Pollux" thing very very mushy, especially between the super-agents that these folks are cut out to be. Can't these ghost-writers find other themes to write about? Definitely not in league with the typical Ludlum genre.

2 comments about Sultana.
  1. This book was well-written and well researched. The author knows the world of the Harem and different steps to become the power behind the throne (The Valide Sultan). He begins with Aimee's life in Martinique and her school days in France. Then there is the trip home, when she is shipwrecked and captured. Then taken as a gift to the Sultan. Her training, being given a new name (Nakshidil) all ring true. Wonderful book!

  2. Absolutely wonderful! Prince Michael takes you into the breathtakingly beautiful, and absolutely terrifying world of slavery and living ones life in a Harem. I was completely captivated from first page to last as he told Aimee's story. I laughed, and cried as the story sweeps you through her life in the Harem, and her ability to persevere against enemies, loss, terror and her ultimate rise to power. I would highly reccomend this book!
