  1. this is one of the best books ever!!!!!! it is really good. everybody will love Jesse's voice!

  2. What do you think it would be like to be a spy, genius and an orphan?
Jesse is just that. Jesse is about to explore the world outside of her C2 building and go on her first huge mission. Her partner is Liam. Liam doesn't care much about Jesse because she's only a "thumb sucker," in otherwords a kid. Jesse's mission is to save Jasmine Carrillo from being kidnapped. Along the way she encounters suspects, challenges, and at times she is confused.
During the mission Jesse finds out information about her mysterious childhood past.

Undercover Girl #1 Secrets made me wonder how it would be like if you were responsible for someone's life like Jesse was for Jasmine. Christine Harris did a wonderful job making the book interesting, adventurous, and exciting. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure.

  3. Jesse Sharpe, an orphan raised by a secret government agency to become a spy, is a very cool girl. She's got a bag full of spy gadgets, she's a kick-butt martial artist, and she's brilliantly smart. This book, the first in the series, introduces us to the prodigy and leaves quite an impression behind. The book was exciting and fun.

Who wouldn't want to get to know such an interesting girl better? This series is a literary equivalent of Alias for the preteen set. Every adventurous girl should give this book a chance.

  4. Christine Harris wrote a terrific spy book called Secrets. It's about this girl named Jesse Sharpe. She's not like other kids.Jesse is an orphan,a genius, and a sercet agent.Jesse has been assigned to the C2- mysterious organization that has raised her to become a spy.Jesse is trying to keep Jasmine Carrillo from being kidnaped, but can Jesse trust the C2 organization or not?

  1. I loved this book! Then again I love anything that is written by Charlaine Harris. She is a fabulous writer, I get lost in her books.

  2. I love this series and this book lives up to expectations. I think the author is very talented.

  3. I first fell in love with Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series. I like Lily Bard even better. Basically, Lily is a cleaning woman that was brutally attacked. raped and nearly killed years before the series takes place. While this attack has definately shaped Lily's character, we meet her at a time when she is finally coming to terms with everything that has happened to her and who she's become.

What sets this series apart are the supporting characters and the description of life in a small town. While the crimes commited in the book are intruiging enough to keep you turning the pages well into the night, it is the people that Harris writes about that make you head to the bookstore first thing in the morning for the next installment.

The series is in this order: Shakespeare's Landlord, Champion, Christmas, Trollop and Counselor.

According to Harris' website, she does not plan on continuing the Lily BArd series at this time. Boo.

  4. Since Lily Bard left her home town of Bartley Arkansas after experiencing a life altering and tragic event, she has rarely come back. But her sister is about to be married and Lily is the maid of honor, so sisterly duty takes her there.

Lily makes Christmas plans with her private Detective boyfriend, Jack, after the wedding and back at her home in Shakespeare. But when Jack is assigned an 8 year old unsolved kidnapping case, things suddenly get crazy in Bartley.

I paid an obscene amount of money for this out of print book as I am totally addicted to this series and simply could not wait for the December 2008 re-release. Was it worth that huge pile of clams? You bet; I'd pay it all over again in a heartbeat.

While Lily finally starts to heal with her family and friends and the life that was before she was hurt, we get to watch her relationship with Jack progress. The mystery is a heartbreaking one that had me in an internal battle with myself about turning to the end ahead of time to see whodunit.

For such a small number of pages, Ms. Harris utilizes them to their fullest and provides a well rounded book with maximum entertainment. I am ready for the next one!

    Shakespeare's Landlord
Shakespeare's Champion (The Second Lily Bard Mystery)

  5. I loved this book, Even though I could only get it on Amazon, it has been out of print for a few years. I was well worth waiting for, so I could read the series in order. I loved the entire series, I wish Ms. Harris would write another Lily Bard Book.

  1. I read this book this year and I couldn't put it down! I'm in seventh grade. This book isn't a good book for people that get nervous or scared easily. But it's great for people that love Scary Mysteries!

This book is a true Scary Mystery classic.

This book has romance, which leads to a huge mystery that has people's lives at stake.

  2. Her boyfriends wife was killed, the murderer, a seventeen year old with a hard background, was arrested and sentenced to the electric chair. But still Sharon felt very strongly about capital punishment and that it should not be used in the federal government's punishment system. She felt that although he was guilty (in her opinion) of murder that life in prison was a more appropriate punishment. Death she felt was cruel and unnecessary. Susan fought for months to get a clemency on Ronald Thompson's case. Her boyfriend, Steven Peterson, whose wife Thompson was accused killing, supported capital punishment even before his wife had been killed. Although he and his new girlfriend, who he met about two years after his wife's death, had different views on the subject they both stayed desperately in love with each other. Sharon failed at her attempts to get the judge to change Thompson's sentence. But still even in his last two days of life Thompson's closest friends tried to find something they had missed to prove his innocence. Another man was watching the case very closely, he planned to kidnap Peterson's son along with Sharon and return them once he had collected $[...] in ransom fees. But a hoax for delivering the money was setup and the kidnapper was caught. Along with him being caught, police also solved the murder of Peterson's wife and proved Thompson's innocence. This was an ok book but it was very confusing. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a mystery and can easily understand confusing stories.

The characters in the story are outstandingly smart and realistic. The kidnapper watches Sharon an extended period of time without being noticed or thought suspicious. He also managed to get out of the neighborhood without being identified, but some of Peterson's close friends were looking out the window and noticed him pulling out of the driveway. Sharon and Steve (Peterson) both appeared on the Today show three days before Thompson's scheduled execution, the couple had very different views on the same subject and while they both stuck strongly to their opinions, after the show they made plans to see each other the next day. Thompson's mother, Kate, fought very hard to get a petition filled with the names of the people who knew her son best, so that she could try and get a clemency on his sentence, but she felt very betrayed when she found out that Sharon did not believe her son was innocent instead she felt that he should not be punished so brutally.

This story was quite confusing. New characters were introduced so frequently that it was hard to keep track of everything going on. In the beginning of the novel the kidnapper/murderer is what seems to be the main character, then after a chapter or two Sharon and Steve are introduced and the story bounces back and forth between the two of them. But after only about three or four chapters characters are introduced so quickly that the reader is easily confused. A few characters that are introduced within the first ten chapters include: Roger Perry, Glenda Perry, Neil, Mrs. Thompson, Ronald Thompson, Mr. Lufts, Mrs. Lufts, and Sandy.

Although confusing this book is a true thriller. The climax of the book is awaited desperately by the reader. Aside from the fact that it can be confusing because of the bouncing back and forth between characters and stories, the book has an immense amount of suspenseful thrill. For example, Sharon was watching Neil, Steve's son, until Steve got home and from there they had planned to go out to eat or to a movie, but when a knock came at the door and was answered it was the kidnapper. The reader holds on to every word as the author describes how the kidnapper stuffed Neil into a duffel bag with his hands and feet tied, and his mouth gagged. The author implies to the reader that Thompson could be guilty but at other times reassures the reader that he is completely innocent.

The novel was not great but would be an adequate time filler that is certainly filled with a good thrill for the reader throughout the book. The characters are smart, realistic, and the book is thrilling. Once again I recommend this to those readers who do not get confused easily and who love the mystery/thriller book genre.

  3. A Stranger Is Watching?

In the novel A Stranger is watching, by Mary Higgins Clark, a drama novel; was about a murder that took place two years ago, in which a six year old child witnessed the murder. The novel opens as Steve and Shawn debate capital punishment. A young man named Ronald Thompson has been sentenced to death for Nina's murder. Throughout the novel they give clues on who could be the killer. At the end of the novel the last person you would think was accused of the murder. The main character was Ronald. I personally liked the novel because I like suspense novels and movies. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is so dramatic and detailed. Also it's full of thrill.

    Jessica Acosta

  4. Classic MHC. A teenager wrongly convicted of a woman's murder, waiting on death row for his execution in a few days. A grieving widower and son, seeking closure and healing. A psychotic killer who has never been traced to five unsolved murders. Well-written, entertaining, nail-biting.

  5. Reading this book I was struck by how dated it was. Although the book I was reading appeared new the copyright was 1977.

Despite being dated, it is still an enjoyable read. I read the last half in about two days as I didn't want to wait to see what happened next. I fought sleep the last night to finally finish the book at midnight. This is a typical Mary Higgins Clark but does not seam cookie cutter so you won't feel like you have read this already. Some of the characters (the police) I found a little irritating and hopefully not true to life. Maybe I'm too used to the police being the heros in suspense novels.

Overall this is an enjoyable book weaving together a couple different story lines.

5 comments about Silk (Heart of India Series #1).
  1. I picked up this book on a random shelf skim at my schools library. It was the synopsis on the back that intriged me. upon reaching the end I was disappointed that it left me with such a clumsy cliffhanger. The book switches first persons between two characters: 1) Coral Kendall- the sickly daughter of a prosperous silk farmer. She is head-strong which counteracts her weak body. And even though she is sickly she is still very beautiful. 2) Jace Buckley- A dashing and handsome indipendent major in the army. He longs to get out of the army to be a sea captain like his father. Then he hopes to set up a wild tea plantation with coral's brother michael in Darjeeling. They meet on the night coral's untouchable turned christian friend Jemani is having her baby. She dies after the delivery, leaving her baby to coral's care. Major Buckley arrives( he is there in search of a man eating tiger supiosedly close by), he escourts coral to the house and warns her not to care for the child or there will be trouble.... The novel as a whole is good, but there are some really boring parts in it. Also on a personal note if you do not like books with a lot of religous beliefs worked in avoid this book its jam packed with Christianity. I am a christian so I don't mind but for those that do I'm just warning you. If you want to learn more about where silk comes from this would be a fun way to find out. All in all it could have been better, but I would not say I wish I had not picked it up, that's why I gave it three stars.

  2. I would have to admit that it took me a while to get into this book. It does have some slow spots, and yes, it does leave you with a cliffhanger... however,it is so worth it once you get to books two and three. I finished the second book in a day, and was already halfway through the next book the second day. This is the first time I have read any of Linda Chaikin's books, but I am definitely looking forward to starting another series.

  3. This book is a wonderful, wonderful read. I simply could not put it down, and it ranked up there under my top 5. I simply can NOT wait to purchase the next two books in the series and begin devouring them as well!

  4. What can I say? This book is great! Linda Chaikin takes us to 1700s British India to a silk plantation of a wealthy British family: The Kendalls. Coral Kendall is one of the daughters of the plantation's owner: Hampton Kendall. Coral Kendall adopts a Hindu child, an untouchable, against the wishes of her uncle and the dashing, handsome officer Jace Buckley. A terrifying incident results in the kidnapping of Gem and the child's body that was found in the river. Coral is certain that the child that was found in the river is not Gem and she's determined to find him and bring him home. The book gets kind of slow towards the middle but you must read on!!! Romance, intrigue, danger surrounds everyone in the book. I believe this is one Linda Chaikin's best works!

  5. This is a wonderful, exciting series full of romance, suspense, and adventure. Linda Chaikin's creative talent still surprises me, and I loved the story of Coral, Jace, and Gem. I finished the book in two sittings...I couldn't put it down! The book is far from perfect, however, and you can tell that this series came near the beginning of Linda Chaikin's writing career. Her formula of mystery and suspense with accurate historical facts is perfected with her Egypt series ("Arabian Winds", "Lions of the Desert", and "Valiant Hearts"). Her "Heart of India" series has many plot-holes, and the story can become too confusing at times. It's hard to remember all of the names, and I found myself looking back through the book, trying to remember which character is good and which character is evil.

The second book, "Under Eastern Stars", is my favorite in this series, so if you're slightly disappointed in "Silk", read on. It gets better (in my opinion). I would definitely recommend this series to any fans of Christian fiction, romance, mystery, and historical fiction.

  1. This book is so great I would recommend it to everyone. This is such a great sequel to the first book.

  2. This was really good for a second book, enjoyed it very much, hope there are more to come!

  3. very good follow up its a pity the film was not as good as the book. but still a good film looking forward to the next one

  4. Way too slow!!! Nothing exciting here at all. It took forever to get going if it actually got going at all.
If this was a movie, it would be over in 5 to 10 minutes. Rubbish story, rubbish writing and rubbish overall concept.
Waste of time as this sequal goes nowhere.
    Very dissappointing.

  5. I enjoyed this leg of Davie's journey far more than the initial book. There was more action and more depth to the characters.

  1. I really enjoyed this book and the real credit for this goes to ghost-writer Lori Boespflug. Yes Bob Larson put it in his own words; however most of the outline and work should go to Lori who spent countless hours working on this novel and Abaddon. I am hoping that Lori will come out with additional books under her name. She has a good talent and hope that the legal battle has not kept her from continuing her work. Bob Larson never gave her the credit and ended up sacking her before Abaddon was finished (according to World and Cornerstone).

It is a good read and you will not want to put it down. I don't recommend anyone under 18 reading this. The novel gets quite graphic when speaking of the satanic rituals. Some have said that it borderlines pornography. I could not see it being written different. It approaches the subject of satanic ritual abuse. Abuse is abuse and to water it down would not do any of the victims of this crime any justice

  2. I recommend reading this book if one wants to learn how satanic worshipers operate. It was a fascinating read, very difficult to put down. It's a compelling story of overcoming evil with good.

The main character, Wes Bryant, is a radio talk show host who receives a call from a terrified little girl while on the air. The story unfolds as he attempts to find out who this girl is and what has happened to her.

Some parts are pretty graphic, and I wondered whether it was really necessary to include some of the past experiences in such detail of this 9 year old girl (Jennifer), who was part of the ritualistic abuse.

Clearly this book is not for everyone. If someone you know was/is a victim of an occult crime or ritual abuse it would be very helpful to read in order to gain an understanding of the pain involved. In the middle of the book (page 222) there is a scene where Jennifer's mom (Annette) attends a support group of mothers who either have been abused or whose children have been abused. This portion of the book provides helpful insight on the recovery process.

It is amazing to me that this is based on a true story. I can't imagine how anyone could abuse a child or animal in the ways mentioned. The depth of evil described is profound.

Why would anyone want to worship Satan (who lies, destroys, and deceives) when they can worship Jesus Christ (who loves us enough to die for us in order to save us from our sins and reconcile us to God)? It's beyond reason.

For anyone who has been a victim of abuse, there is a phone number and address on the last page to contact for help. Compassion Connection; Box 36 C; Denver, Colorado 80236 (303.985.HOPE).

  3. I read it years ago, when it first came out, and was grateful I got it at the library.

This book was the beginning of the end for this flamboyant, colorful talk show host.

  4. I know it's not for the squeamish in fact I've read this book no less than 10 times since I bought it, and it still keeps me on edge. The nature is very graphic I'll give you that, but I feel that Larson was trying to show the depravity of the human mind, and how susceptable we can be to Satan when he tries to call us to do his evil will. This is actually based on a true story, and so therefore things like this do happen in America. I feel that alot of Christians would blush at a book like this because of the graphic nature, but that's because I feel that it makes us take a step back to see what kind of depravity we might be capable of, and if anyone says they don't have anything depraved in the mind they are lying to themselves. We are all sinners in God's eyes, and while we may not do anything as despicable as the characters do here if the thought is there that's enough. I wouldn't recommend this book to anybody because of the graphic nature, but for those who are looking for a book that will keep you in suspense this is a winner.

  5. The book is horrible, the writing was bad, characters were undeveloped, cheesy and simple. Im also one of those who appreciates a bad read from time to time (not sure anyone understands what I mean by that, oh well). Super quick read.

  1. Jack Olsen is great at true crime. He leaves no stone unturned, yet you never get bored. I have to agree with a fellow reviewer when he said that more time should have been spent on Michael Kay Green. The story, nonetheless is riveting. I could not put the book down. Elaine Gere is one tough lady, you sometimes feel like you are reading ficton yet it is real! I highly recommend "Salt".

  2. I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book. Once again, Jack Olsen doesn't disappoint. This true crime novel will take you through a range of emotions. The story line keeps your interest until you reach the last page. Mr. Olsen has a unique way of telling the story that keeps you wanting more. Fantastic!

  3. As one of the people who found the remains of dear Brenda on the Tulalip Reservation, finding this book was a chilling end to the mistery and the saddness of finding this poor little soul. Well written and informative this book laid down the facts and events that will keep you reading non stop to the end. Our hearts go out to the family and friends, and we are happy to have found her for all who loved Brenda.

  4. This is just an excellent book that is throughly well written.
Speaking as a California what really haunted from the accounts
of this family in South Fontana, is how basically California
hasnt changed much. Poor people are poorer, rich people are
getting richer and the whole system is getting more corrupt
    with every passing day.

Olsen tracks the Gere family (Joe, Evelyn, Bobby, Big Ed, Elaine)
on what is a life journey filled with sadness, love, friendship,
racism and inner spirit to survive. Thats the best way of summing
up the book its the survival of one family in a big cosmopolitan
country (Cali) that gives nothing to this class of people
struggling to get by, yet enjoys the fruits of their labor.

The book also has a great deal of social commentary as well,
man you can easily make this in a course at a school and college
and liberate and educate many youngsters in what life is about.

It should be required reading, great book!!!

  5. I have read all of Jack Olsen's books, but this one appealed to me because it was about the end result of a crime, not just the crime itself or the criminal. I was captivated by Elaine and her ability to handle everything, but I was devastated for her; this crime could have been prevented had people been more alert and as concerned about her child as they were their own. It takes crimes like these to educate us, but are we more alert today than we were when Brenda disappeared? Children are still disappearing right before our eyes. Based on this book, Elaine is my new hero and I needed to know there are women who suffer these events and still maintain hope. Olsen lets his readers see the story through the character's eyes, as if we were there. Unable to put it down, I end up reading the whole book in one day!

2 comments about The Strange Case of Baby H (American Girl History Mysteries).
  1. Clara Curfman and her family live in San Francisco in 1906. Clara's house gets a hard jolt when the great earthquake hits, but when the violent shaking subsides it's still standing. Aftershocks continue in the days that follow and huge fires ravage much of the city. Clara and her family, along with the boarders that inhabit their house, are forced to live in the yard for fear that the house may yet collapse. In the midst of all the chaos, a baby in a basket is left on their front porch. Even more strangely, what appears to be a boy baby turns out to be a girl in disguise. Further, Clara realizes that strangers are watching her house. Before this story is over, both the baby and Clara face great danger. Clara, finding herself in one tight spot after another, responds with courage and resolve.

THE STRANGE CASE OF BABY H is a suspenseful and action-packed tale set in the midst of one of the greatest natural disasters of the twentieth century. The author does a nice job of weaving accurate historical details into the story without sacrificing the immediacy of the plot. Being residents of the San Francisco area, this story had a little extra interest for us. On the other hand, the plot is often rather predictable. As the "History Mystery" series goes, this one is about average. That's still pretty good, though. We've found "History Mysteries" to be of good quality in general, and my daughter and I always enjoy reading them together.

  2. When I listened to this book (on tape) I really loved it's plot. I stayed up till midnight listening to it!

I would definately reccomend it to any girl I know!!!

I hope anyomne else who reads it loves it as much as I did!!! :)
