  1. Nurse Jennifer Denton was hired to look after the wealthy and ailing Belinda Wilson Now that her charge is dead, she realizes the family survivors are eagerly waiting to hear the will so they can find out how much she left to them. Nobody is more surprised then Jennifer when she is asked to stay for the reading of the will. Each Wilson is left $100 but the heir is her grand niece's son John and Jennifer is asked to take care of him for a considerable fee.

His father Stuart, a member of the diplomatic corps stationed in Panama has gone missing so he needs a guardian Belinda could trust and she knew Jennifer was responsible and would take great care of her Johnny. Soon after the reading of the will, Stuart makes an appearance but he stays in the shadows because some very bad killers of a drug cartel are after the agent. Jennifer sees the scars on his back from torture and her heart goes out to him. As they spend time together their feelings for one another grow and when Jennifer is kidnapped to be used as bait to capture Stuart, he moves heaven and hell to find her. Together they have to elude the enemy and Jennifer is determined to help him whether he likes it or not.

If one can accept the premise that a very sheltered woman is outwitting professional hitmen of a drug cartel and driving like a secret agent man, one will thoroughly enjoy the exciting THE EDGE OF FOREVER. When the plot remains a thriller , the audience will find it plausible although tottering the edge; but when it turns to a romance readers will find it hard to believe that the in peril lead couple are truly in love. Still Nancy Kelley writes a fun over the top romantic suspense.

  1. I'll say right up front that I'm a friend of Nancy Baker Jacobs, and I haven't yet read DOUBLE OR NOTHING. I'm rating it five stars, though, in anticipation of what I know it's bound to be. I've read several of Nancy's other books, and have been waiting impatiently to receive the long-awaited DOUBLE OR NOTHING. Nancy is a great writer, and she's been gone from the mystery scene far too long. As an author myself, and a former freelance editor, I know good writing when I see it--and Nancy goes beyond good. Her books are thoughtful, intelligent, tense, fast-paced and exciting. Welcome back, Nancy! And get that promised copy of DOUBLE OR NOTHING to me--fast!!

  2. Ms. Jacobs has done it again! Ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, and a plot which picks up speed with every page, this thriller is a joy ride for the thriller reader. If you're looking for a good read, pick up Double Trouble---you won't be able to put it down.

  3. Ms. Jacobs has a knack for creating believable, "ordinary" characters
and placing them in extraordinarily dangerous situations.

More great news: Ms. Jacobs has other books due out in 2002!

  1. This book is just not a real western, historically or practically.
The plot is clumsy and slow, the action is more like a badly done B western
movie than an action packed novel.
What first put me off was the fellow turning loose horses.
No one in their right mind turned horses loose.
They were one of the major sources of wealth in the old west.
So a lot of the action is slow and uncharacteristic of actual westerns.
The main romantic interest is just pot bolled on, over and over...
The improbability of the torture of the mine owner lasting more than a month and being done in a plot twist by his own son was pretty much what put it away for me.

5 comments about Terror in Mexico : The Kidnapping of Ken Krusensterna.
  1. This book is a must-read for anyone traveling to a foreign country. Not only is the story compelling and a real page-turner, it could actually save your life. What Ken and his family went through to survive this ordeal is a story in itself. What it offers the reader is; a fast-paced, true crime story, as well as extremely helpful advice for "playing outside your home field." Well worth the read.

  2. This book reads like a great TV suspense thriller. I had to keep reminding myself that this is not fiction! Mr. Krusensterna has written an honest account of his kidnapping and torture at the hands of a gang of Mexican kidnappers. However, this book is not just a horrific account of his life-changing incident, but is written as an informative and inspirational warning to anyone who travels to Mexico for business or pleasure. I am highly recommending this book too all my friends here in Arizona who travel so casually in and out of Mexico.

  3. This book is a must read for anyone traveling in a foreign country for business or leisure. Outside the United States, Americans are considered vulnerable and naive. I couldn't put this book down; finished in one day. Ken's courage to tell his story to keep others from danger is truly a service to humanity.

  4. THIS BOOK IS EXCELLENT IT HAS SUCH GREAT DESCRIPTION THAT YOU FEEL ALL THE PAIN, SARROW, AND A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS GOING ON AT HOME AND WITH KEN. NEVER CONFUSED WHERE YOU HAVE TO KEEP FLIPPING BACK AND FORTH THREW THE PAGES. THE BOOK GIVES YOU A GREAT FEELING OF LOVE FOR YOUR FAMILY. MAKES YOU THANKFUL THAT I CAN BE CLOSE TO MY FAMILY.

  5. This is my uncle, so I bought the book out of curiosity. Good thing we are not close because they all come across as rude and the story is unbelievable.
