3 comments about St. Abient Run.
- St. Abient Run is a totally engrossing, freight train of a suspense, strife with political, moral and religious undertones. As believable characters, Susan and Mark are thrown into an international web of deceit where no one is beyond suspicion, not even each other. Kendrick exhibits a fine writing talent in her first novel, but this story has a quality many thrillers do not: a struggle for survival not only in the physical world, but also the spiritual one. Faith is tested time and again, but redemption is always within reach. St. Abient is peopled with a cast of multi-cultural characters, and an intriguing plot, all woven into a cohesive web that keeps the reader clinging to a thin thread of hope, and just when we think we have it all figured out, another strand is added to make us keep turning the pages. I wholeheartedly recommend this book as an exciting and uplifting read.
- St. Abient Run is a good, fast read that keeps you turning pages. The characters are convincing and the actions believable. The writer shows an intimate, accurate, and detailed familiarity with the many European settings for the story. I would recommend the book for readers of all ages and persuasions.
- Jeana Kendrick is well acquainted with the countries she writes about in St. Abient Run. Her credentials are most impressive, as she is managing editor for the Door of Hope Magazine, as well as overseeing the Door of Hope International publishing concerns in the US and Canada. She has published articles in several newspapers and books, and is at work on her second novel of international intrigue.
Susan Pardue, a journalist who is struggling in her job, finds herself assigned to St. Abient Run school in France with her boss, Mark Ashley. Both she and Mark have a personal stake in the investigation, as both of them have lost siblings to the increasing drug traffic. Mark's cousin Benjamin has been acting erratically, has spent a considerable sum of his inheritance, and refuses to discuss it. Susan's life is suddenly in danger, after she innocently retrieves a package dropped by a man who bumped into her. She and Mark have to call in the heavy guns after they have a suspicious bag of white powder planted on them and they are picked up by the cops after a tipoff: "Zach continued. Our agency only has the bare bones on the story. But last year a grand jury indicted Nebut Electronics, a U.S. Corporation, and Dower Consolidated of South Africa for conspiracy. At the time the two companies held eighty percent of the $600 billion global market for industrial diamonds. We're after two of their top men, Peter Frazier and Ewald Lauter.'" Jeana Kendrick states her inspiration for St. Abient Run came about after twelve years of working behind the Iron Curtain with Door of Hope International. Susan's experiences mirror her own, which makes the plot that much more meaningful. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and Kendrick does a nice job of translating her experiences into a first rate international spy story. Her characters are well drawn and fascinating, with just the right amount of allure and mystery. Susan has the added pleasure of having several suitors vying for her attention, which always adds spice to a plot. Kendrick teases the reader on that score, as we won't know until the next installment what Susan actually has on her mind. An entertaining read, with underlying drama. Shelley Glodowski Reviewer

3 comments about Double or Nothing (Five Star Mystery Series).
- I'll say right up front that I'm a friend of Nancy Baker Jacobs, and I haven't yet read DOUBLE OR NOTHING. I'm rating it five stars, though, in anticipation of what I know it's bound to be. I've read several of Nancy's other books, and have been waiting impatiently to receive the long-awaited DOUBLE OR NOTHING. Nancy is a great writer, and she's been gone from the mystery scene far too long. As an author myself, and a former freelance editor, I know good writing when I see it--and Nancy goes beyond good. Her books are thoughtful, intelligent, tense, fast-paced and exciting. Welcome back, Nancy! And get that promised copy of DOUBLE OR NOTHING to me--fast!!
- Ms. Jacobs has done it again! Ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, and a plot which picks up speed with every page, this thriller is a joy ride for the thriller reader. If you're looking for a good read, pick up Double Trouble---you won't be able to put it down.
- Ms. Jacobs has a knack for creating believable, "ordinary" characters
and placing them in extraordinarily dangerous situations. More great news: Ms. Jacobs has other books due out in 2002!

1 comments about Hanging Valley.
- This book is just not a real western, historically or practically.
The plot is clumsy and slow, the action is more like a badly done B western
movie than an action packed novel.
What first put me off was the fellow turning loose horses.
No one in their right mind turned horses loose.
They were one of the major sources of wealth in the old west.
So a lot of the action is slow and uncharacteristic of actual westerns.
The main romantic interest is just pot bolled on, over and over...
The improbability of the torture of the mine owner lasting more than a month and being done in a plot twist by his own son was pretty much what put it away for me.

5 comments about Terror in Mexico : The Kidnapping of Ken Krusensterna.
- This book is a must-read for anyone traveling to a foreign country. Not only is the story compelling and a real page-turner, it could actually save your life. What Ken and his family went through to survive this ordeal is a story in itself. What it offers the reader is; a fast-paced, true crime story, as well as extremely helpful advice for "playing outside your home field." Well worth the read.
- This book reads like a great TV suspense thriller. I had to keep reminding myself that this is not fiction! Mr. Krusensterna has written an honest account of his kidnapping and torture at the hands of a gang of Mexican kidnappers. However, this book is not just a horrific account of his life-changing incident, but is written as an informative and inspirational warning to anyone who travels to Mexico for business or pleasure. I am highly recommending this book too all my friends here in Arizona who travel so casually in and out of Mexico.
- This book is a must read for anyone traveling in a foreign country for business or leisure. Outside the United States, Americans are considered vulnerable and naive. I couldn't put this book down; finished in one day. Ken's courage to tell his story to keep others from danger is truly a service to humanity.
- THIS BOOK IS EXCELLENT IT HAS SUCH GREAT DESCRIPTION THAT YOU FEEL ALL THE PAIN, SARROW, AND A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS GOING ON AT HOME AND WITH KEN. NEVER CONFUSED WHERE YOU HAVE TO KEEP FLIPPING BACK AND FORTH THREW THE PAGES. THE BOOK GIVES YOU A GREAT FEELING OF LOVE FOR YOUR FAMILY. MAKES YOU THANKFUL THAT I CAN BE CLOSE TO MY FAMILY.
- This is my uncle, so I bought the book out of curiosity. Good thing we are not close because they all come across as rude and the story is unbelievable.

3 comments about The Crowning Terror (Hardy Boys Casefiles, Case 6).
- This is by far the best of the first six casefiles. It manages to perfectly capture the feel of the spy genre. I loved the characters. You never knew what was going on with Hugh, Starkey or Charity. The Russians were the best. I liked the dig at Sen. MacCarthy (sic). "Somepeople think there are Russians everywhere." If you ever find this book, buy it. It is a very easy read and some moments are so wonderful they are almost beyond words. When Hugh says that he knows what the crown is and he still wants it you could have knocked me down with a feather.
- The Hardy Boys: Crowning Terror was yet another brethtaking mystery I loved. When the Hardys first encounter with Charity I thought she was on the opposite side. Turns out she was just trying to find out the same thing as the Hardys, what was Hugh Hunt after. Hugh is Frank and Joes uncle so they didn't suspect a thing, at first. Once the plans to steal the crown were found he was a little more suspected. Surprisingly, Uncle Hugh was poisoned by the culprets. These crafty thievs promised Uncle Hugh the antadote only if he helped them steal the crown. Finally Frank and Joe escape the back stabbing government offical, Starky, and head out to find their uncle. At the end the cunning Hardys save their father from the poison, the thievs, and restore the crown to its origional place at the meuseum.
- In this "interesting","amusing" book we found a surprisingly obvious unreality. When the Hardy boys (Frank and Joe) jump from the Golden Gate bridge they miraculously survive with only minor, or (in Frank's case) no injuries. In addition, their hands were tied behind their backs! Yeah right! Who the heck can do that? If Franklin W. Dixon really wanted them to survive, then why did he have them jump off the bridge in the first place? It is so unreal it is amazing he got the editors to let him print it! In reality (whatever reality is to Dixon; his mind has no boundaries) if a person were to attempt to jump the bridge, even with the use of their hands, they would either die from impact, shock, drowning, or even hypothermia. In any case, it is safe to say that this is not one of Dixon's finer moments in the lives of the two heroic boys we have all grown to adore. If you want to enter the Hardy's lives don't start with this sickeningly unrealistic adventure.
