1 comments about Jack the Ripper: End of a Legend.
- This is the latest effort to identify the Ripper that confuses interesting speculation for proof. The author's efforts to translate the addresses of the murders into an anagram identifying his trio of killers is ingenious but labored, and will remind students of the crimes of previous anagram solutions by John Wilding and the author, Wallace I believe, who fingered Lewis Carroll as the murderer. Much of it is written as if it's fiction, and the author does not even pretend to have sources that prove anything - instead reproducing marriage records that do not really establish his case. His focusing on Caroline Maxwell's sighting of Mary Jane Kelly after she supposedly died is interesting, but he never explains why Kelly allowed her whole plan to be jeopardized by such exposure after the murder - rather than slipping away under the cloak of darkness. Intrigued by the idea of Kelly as the killer? Track down the superb historical fiction novel, John Brooks Barry's The Michaelmas Girls.

2 comments about Ripper Notes: Written in Blood.
- The last issue #25 seemed like it was full of filler material. However, this issue is chalked full of good articles and pictures. For the first time ever, a picture of Frederick Abberline, Mary Kelly's landlord, and a lot more articles of interest!
- The next installment of Ripper Notes is 'Written in Blood', Issue #26. In comparison to other issues, it's par for the course but not fantastic. Here's the basic rundown:
1. Pictures of Division H which may contain a possible photo of Det. Abberline but no proof it's actually him.
2. Article on suspect John Barlas the poet
3. Article on how handwritten letters helped to capture the likes of HH Holmes, Albert Fish, and J. Frank Hickey.
4. A purported 'Dear Boss' letter dated 9-17-1888, is it authentic or a modern day hoax.
5. Possibility of two John McCarthy's living at the Dorset Street address, one being the landlord of Mary Kelly, the other being a grocer.
6. Was John McCarthy serving as a pimp to Mary Jane Kelly and other prostitutes in Miller's Ct?
7. Letters to the Editor during the murders. Content based on brothels and 'bullies' (pimps).
8. Article on just what was the painting print found in Mary Kelly's room.
9. Another re-examining of the Bucks Row murder of Polly Nichols
10. A review of the U.S. Ripper conference.
11. "Jack - the Musical" article
12. Regular feature - news articles regarding suspects and a rebuffing of some suspects.
13. Regular feature - Book reviews... look for the fiction book Sojourn.
Overall - average with a few decent articles but nothing really stimulating. I could have done without #7, 8, 10, & 11; they seemed like filler material. I always enjoy #12 & 13.

1 comments about Jack the Ripper - Infamous London Serial Killer (Biography).
- All this book has is the main Wikipedia article about Jack the Ripper printed out in book form... or at least the version of that article that was online when this book was put together. While Wikipedia uses a license that allows people to republish its content, which means it's not illegal for someone to have done this, certainly as a reader there's no reason to pay $10 to get what you can get for free online. More importantly, if you look it up online you can click links to read much more detailed information that's available in several additional articles Wikipedia has about Jack the Ripper suspects, victims, books, films and so forth, which this publisher didn't even bother collecting together.
Simply put, there's no reason to buy this, or the other books by this publisher, unless you just like paying good money for a watered down version of something that's available for free online.
