5 comments about Killing Hitler: The Plots, The Assassins, and the Dictator Who Cheated Death.
  1. Well written, readable account of the major plots and attempts to kill Hitler over the course of his political ascension to his final self demise. Impressive telling from young Georg Elser's early attempt to kill Hitler in 1939 with an ingenious self made bomb that exploded on time but after Hitler prematurely left the podium to his military enemies the British who initially found the task undesirable. The telling of these grand and individual plots parallels the rise and fall of the Third Reich. The detail is quite refreshing discussing how initially vulnerable to assassination Hitler was partially due to his grandiose perception that he was supernaturally protected from death. Aside from external and internal plots within the military, the author explains in impressive detail how the various heroic undergrounds were successful in killing numerous Nazis while suffering great and shocking reprisals for their success particularly in Poland and Czechoslovakia. An ultimate example is the Czechs pulling off a major assassination with the killing of Heydrich. Impressive is the author's documentation of the various anti-Hitler networks involving such prominent military men such as Wilhelm Canaris and Hans Oster who both suffer once exposed. The highlight of the book of course is the great attempt that almost kills Hitler, the bomb planted by war hero Stauffenberg in the Rastenburg map room. The author also tells why the assassination failed that is an interesting and new revelation. Another interested party is Hitler's favorite architect and armories coordinator, Albert Speer, who the author recognizes as potentially self serving at Nuremberg but the author also recognized Speers' desire not to have Germany destroyed as Hitler wished at the end. The book also includes an excellent collection of photographs of the collaborators and other fascinating photos such as Goring inspecting the destroyed map room to a startling picture of the extraordinary intense gaze of British Colonel Noel Mason-McFarland during a pre-war German military review. Mason-McFarland emphatically stated before the war that a sniper could easily dispatch Hitler and save Europe.

  2. Although I was aware of some attempts on Hitler's life, I did not know that there were so many and from so many different sources - both within Hitler's entourage as well as far away from it. The author has provided well-researched and reasoned renderings of a subset of these attempts - the most fascinating and surprising ones. But in addition to discussing these various attempts in detail, the author has also presented much valuable information on the background history and evolving politics of Germany from the end of World War I to the end of World War II. The brutality of the Nazi regime is also amply discussed. As expected, particular attention has been paid to the instigation, structure and evolution of Hitler's security organization. The book's writing style is clear, friendly, authoritative and very engaging. It should be most relished by history buffs that have a penchant for the Second World War.

  3. If you're an armchair historian on World War II,then this is an excellent account of Hitler's obscure rise to ultimate power. This is a fascinating look at all the secret saboteurs against the furiose fuhrer. If you're intrigued by the history surrounding the Hitler topic, you'll be spellbound by this book.I never realized the various plots ,inside and outside his inner court, that were being hatched around him. Some will argue it was fated that he would survive. Many would agree it was just bad luck.I still find myself asking if Hitler wanted to destroy Germany on purpose,in revenge for being an 'oddball outcast'.Hitler was seen as a backwood peasant, and not of Viennese artistic quality. Many 'Hitler Histories' claim he was a 'house-painter'.This was not true.He was a failed baukunstler student, that later painted postcards for tourists.Himmler is often listed as just a 'chicken-farmer's geek',when he in fact had technical training at an argicultural institute,as well. The sagacious Himmler was aware of Hitler's ill-gotten birth,ab ovo,and probably felt he was better off as the 'propaganda-direktor'.Rather than the Nazi party's leader.Himmler saw the potential marriage between Hitler and his niece ,Gisella Rubel,as another generation of 'genetic-trouble' for the Fuhrer and an image-problem for the party. It was not discussed in this book, yet it can be speculated ,that Himmler's SS had Rubel killed and Himmler then instructed a 'suicide-scene' staged.Hitler believed fully that 'in-breeding' was preserving of the Aryan race, when in fact it was creating genetic dead-ends for extinction of the human race.At any rate, the various Allied countries valiently tried to eradicate the polemic dictator from his post. This engaging book gives the agentry accounts of the agent-provocateurs involved. From his egregious wanderings into the beer-hall rants then onto his fusty bunker of despair. This is a gripping book about the assassins of change, who failed to curtail the actions of a desperate madman, whose demagoguery bedeviled an entire nation into ruin for a generation.

  4. Roger Moorehouse's "Killing Hitler" is a tragic chronicle of the alarmingly few individuals and groups in Nazi Germany who saw early on (or too late) that their "leader" was a mass murdering psychopath and acted accordingly--to no avail.

Though their bravery is commendable, one cannot help feel terrible anger and frustration as one gets into the thick of Moorhouse's feverish narrative. At long last, one has to ask, why didn't someone in the Wehrmacht simply get on good terms with Hitler, stand next to him, and ignite a live grenade? Suffice to say that any evaluation of posterity is just that, and only a slight percentage of those still living have had the experience of living in a ferocious totalitarian state like the Germany of 1933-45.

Perhaps the most impressive of the would-be assassins is Maurice Bavaud, a young idealist with deep roots in Christendom who, in 1939, waited for Hitler to show up at his annual "Beer Hall Putsch" celebration (where the equally courageous Georg Elser would plant a bomb which missed only because of a chance early departure by the dictator) took a pistol, and was foiled because of a group of German civilians. This was not the first time Bauvaud would make such a naked, furious attempt on the Fuhrer's life. Captured and guillotined in 1941, Bavaud stated baldly that whether Germans would accept it or not, he had been acting not only in their interest but the interest of all humanity. Only Col. Claus Von Stauffenberg's already well publicized attempt rivals that kind of courage.

The Warsaw Uprising of 1944 is given an impressive, if limited, recounting here: the PHM (Polish Home Army) managed to kill 9,000 SS soldiers and, through the utlitization of suicide bombers and guerilla attacks, eliminate a few important members of the Third Reich. The RAF's bungled, halfhearted attempts to bomb Hitler's HQ in East Prussia really didn't need mention here.

How desperate some former Wehrmacht soldiers were for Hitler's death is given heart pounding illustration here, in history's first suicide bomber, Rudolf-Chriastoph Von Gersdorff. Having served as an unofficial emissary for Henning Von Tresckow, a lifelong opponent of the Nazi regime and a key figure in the July 20th attempt, agreed to an act of utter self-sacrifice in order to get rid of Hitler: "At this point it became clear to me that an attack was only possible if I were to carry the explosives about my person, and blow myself up as close to Hitler as was possible."
Lining his uniform with "clam mines" obtained from a fellow officer (Col. Brandt, who knew nothing of the attempt, and who ironically would be the man to move the briefcase bomb away from Hitler on July 20th), he armed the mines with a trigger that would give him exactly ten minutes in which to approach his target and "kiss the sky". Hitler was, at the time, speaking in a German museum--originally Gersdorff was to approach him while the speech was being made and stand beside him.

Hitler cut the speech, was intended to be thirty minutes, to two minutes, and despite Gersdorff having already activated the device--with 5 minutes left--his attempts to stay near Hitler were in vain. Hitler may have noticed that Gersdorff was unusually "eager to talk" and the demonic instinct of self preservation kicked in: in any case, he said goodbye very quickly. Gersdorff then ran to the restroom and defused the bomb with trembling hands.

Moorhouse gets downright unethical--probably desperate for material, but still--including Albert Speer in this book. Speer was Hitler's devoted architect from the beginning of the war to the end and was much a brainwashed Nazi as Himmler, Goerring or Goebbels; he was just charismatic and knew how to BS the judges at Nuremburg. He lied about his knowledge of the atrocities and the Allies, not having evidence ofhis full knowledge which would emerge years later, bought it. Aside from a few scholars who have an unhealthy fascination with him, the general consensus is that he should have been dangling at the end of a rope with all the rest. The only reason he had even a passing thought about assassinating a man he otherwise had nearly homoerotic feelings for was the destruction of Germany. And that's all it was, a passing thought. It should probably be removed from the book.

  5. This is an OK read for those wanting to know who wanted Hitler killed. Obviously, Stalin, the British government, German generals, and other assorted opposition personnel wanted to kill the dictator. Some of them were simply stalkers as with the case of the Swiss theology student. Others were more professional as with the carpenter who made the woodwork on a pillar in the beer hall. All would have done a service to humanity if they knocked off Hitler. I learned a lot about the efforts of German generals plans and the other plots that are only briefly talked about in the history of World War Two. Hitler was a very secure target with minimal exposure to the public. A person who plotted the assassination would obviously have to know Hitler in order to kill him. Most of those who knew him, feared him, and did not have the guts to bring themselves to sacrifice themselves in order to kill him.

This is a nice read about efforts to kill Hitler. All the various plots and plans are neatly summarized for the reader to learn how people planned to kill Hitler.

4 comments about Final Judgment: The Missing Link in the JFK Assassination Conspiracy.
  1. Any derogetory negative information about the Apartheid, racist colonial Zionist state of Israel and not the Jewish People of whom I am a proud member is attacked and villified and banned by almost everyone because of the Zionist effective exploitation of the Derstruction of most European Jewry by the Nazis who were encouraged by the total acceptance for destroying Jews when all nations refused to accept the passengers on the Saint Luis including my aunt Sophie. Piper makes an icredibly powerful attack proof case that the Israeli Mossad ORCHESTRATED the execution of President Kennedy because of his effective blocking of Ben Gurion and his fellow Zionist's Samson complex fear of preserving their Zionist state with nuclear weapons of mass destruction with the aid of France. They had the strong pro Zionist #2 CIA James Jesus Angleton (whose office was in the White House) the powerful Jewish Zionist gangster Meyer Lansky and the super wealthy Canadian Zionist James Bronfman family of Schenly whiskey as the key organizers of this execution. Many of the less important actors already mentioned by other Kennedy scholars like Clay Shaw were all secondary contributors but no one before the Populist Piper made the vital Mossad connection without which the other writers were unable to make sense. DeGaulle ordered his nuclear scientists to cease there Israel connection without being followed and De Gaulle himself barely missed being assasinated by the Zionists. It is amazing that this 42 year ago connection has beeb covered up so long. This is mostly the consequence of the Zionist connected Anti Defamation Leage that is always prepared to accuse any Zionist critic of being an anti-semite, a self hating jew or a CONSPIRACIST which is a prejorative label meaning pARANOID, NUTTY, MARGINAL AND CERTAINLY UNTRUE SIMILAR TO THE CATHOLIC church;s use of Heresy and Witchcraft or Communist in more recent times. Please do yourself a huge favor to explore this most important book.

  2. As one who has read over 200 books on the JFK Assassination, and engaged in research both as an individual and as part of various teams, I can say without fear of contradiction that Piper's book is now the definitive work on the JFK Assassination. "Final Judgement" is the most thorough, most honest, most penetrating, most factual, and most analytically complete and systematic of all that I have read so far.

The author builds an upwardly spiralling tapestry of well documented facts that connect the threads of the conspiracy as they ascend level by level from the ground up to the very tip of the pyramid. Along the way, he breaks the conspiracy into easily digestible parts. Otherwise its sheer complexity would be nearly impossible to follow and decipher. At each level, the threads of the puzzle are woven together in such a way that the fog from the labyrinth is slowly but inexorably lifted until eventually it is peeled back completely and the outlines of the conspiracy are laid bare. What is revealed is as convincing as it is scary. Someday America will have to face some unplesant truths about its democracy and about how it has been, and continues to be manipulated, if not completely comandeered by those whose primary loyalties lie elsewhere.

While the links at some of the levels may be tenuous, the author refuses to "fake or fudge the data" or to be "fatally selective" in what is included or left out as many have charged was the case in the Warren Commission's own report. Piper is intrepid in following his analysis to every logical conclusion--wherever they lead and whatever the implications may be. In short, Piper keeps his eye on the donout ("Big Picture") and not on the hole (inessential details). he focuses on the "why and how" of the conspiracy and unmistakeably the threads all lead back to Israel, Israeli super-patriots, the Myer Lanskey led "Jewish branch of the mob," and the Massad and the international "agents of influence" under its control.

While serious researchers may quibble with inessential details in the study, such as tenuous links at some levels, or redundancies at others, those of us who have studied this issue since the days after the assassination always knew that the truth would have its own resonance--like the Garrison investigation did. We knew that the truth would have its own context, its own smell, like Peter Dale Scott's "Deep Politics and the Death of JFK" did. Piper's book has them all and in the grand tradition of Carl Oglesby's "Yankee Cowboy War," Micheal Piper has struck gold. He has hit the "mother lode," and in the process has pointed the finger at, if not tightened the proverbial noose around, the necks of the cabal of conspirators responsible for pulling the strings (and triggers) of the JFK assassination.

JFK assassination research has a new standard bearer. It will never be the same again. Because of this book, future research will begin to focus more on the "big picture," and turn away from constantly grinding, ad nauseam, at inconsistencies in the Warren Commission's Report.

  3. This book explores the real truth behind the operation nobody dared to completely research before. If JFK was in fact at odds with Israel over their nuclear plant then they did indeed have the biggest motive- State Survival - to initiate the plan. Not that everyone else didn't happily go along. The actual execution has been exposed over and over. But now we know where the orders came from and who desperately needs to cover it up. Figures in the CIA for example, will come and go. But Israel's survival is STILL at stake. Sickenly, if JFK had lived and implemented a balanced approach to the affairs in the Middle East, we MAY NOT be where we are today with regard to terrorism directed at our country. Our country was completely taken over with this coup, and has been in the hands of the killers ever since.

  4. This only a short note to say that FINAL JUDGMENT is available new in its latest edition from American Free Press for only $[...], less than half
of the current Amazon offer for used. Lerts will hie themselves thither to check it out. Obviously AFP should improve its communications with Amazon.

Back in 1994 already Michael Collins Piper solved the Kennedy assassination all by himself.
Honor & eternal glory to him for this epochal breakthrough, as on such rare occasions the Russians are wont to say. Once we've nailed David Ben Gurion for the JFK hit, then tagging Henry Kissinger and Aerial Shaboom for the 9/11/2001 attacks is a breeze.

IMHO Piper did miss out on the role of the aged Bernard Baruch as the US co-captain with DBG for the op. Piper's erroneous evaluation of Huey Long is related to this oversight. Also, the 600+ pp book badly needs editing. Were I God,
then Mearsheimer & Walt or Benjamin Ginsberg would get tapped for the job of bringing out a radically revised 6th edition up to their own formatting and editorial standards. But Piper found the motherlode, mined it and churned out tons of ore.

As per my review title, 'tis almost impossible to exaggerate the importance of this work, in rough form though it be.

  1. This book appears to be a set of photocopies of a book in the public domain. The photographs are almost impossible to discern. There are many pages that are just plain missing!!!!

The book itself gives a brief overview of McKinley's life and career. It was written shortly after he was assassinated, though, and reads like a long eulogy. As a matter of fact, page after page is filled with directly quoted excerpts of actual eulogies given at the time of his death.

Interesting historical artifact. Not serious history.

1 comments about Who Killed Robert Kennedy? (The Real Story Series).
  1. I read this book specifically looking for evidence that there may have been a conspiracy, like I found with John F. Kennedy (although not nearly as immense as some preposterously believe) and Malcolm X, but found none whatsoever.

Philip Melanson (author) concedes that the "evidence" of a second gunman is not the most credible; since the eyewitness reports sharply contradict any such notion, and also admits that Thane Cesar is the only likely possible second gunman, and that the arguments against that belief (that he was the second gunman) hold reliability as well.

As for Sirhan Sirhan, nobody would deny that he physically shot the shots into Kennedy, but this author, as well as other conspiracy theorists, claim that he was either a product of MK Ultra (of which there's zero evidence for), or he was simply a government agent (which there's no evidence for either). Sirhan was a Palestinian who saw his country get mutilated by Israel just a year before, and seeing that the United States supported Israel unconditionally (as they still do today), he figured that if he can get to ANY U.S. official, they would suffice (this is all according to Sirhan himself). The night of the assassination, Kennedy was out in the open, walking around very casually into crowds, so him being assassinated is not the most surprising thing in the world, folks.

Robert Kennedy was, by and large, no different from anyone else, and like his brother, was not going to implement any radical change in the status quo. Sure, he ran on an anti-war campaign, but so did Nixon. And what did Nixon do? Escalated and expanded the war into Laos and Cambodia. Don't forget, Robert Kennedy is the same person who authorized the crop burnings, germ warfare and bombings of Cuba, even though Cuba never attacked, or threatened to attack the United States. This is also the same person who said it was going to be a "shame" that a whole bunch of children will die because the US would "be forced" to attack Cuba if they don't remove the missiles, thus resulting in a nuclear war.

Robert Kennedy was a hawk, and like his brother, died the same fate that he authorized in Vietnam and Cuba - murder.

3 comments about Winter Kills.
  1. though the plot is complicated ... the book is enjoyable. Condon makes a complex plot of killing the president of USA. he sometimes confuses the reader.yet the book makes a good read and the climax is unexpected. ofcourse not one of the best of Condon.....

  2. This novel solves the assassination of "President Tim Kegan" during a motorcade in "Hunt Plaza". The details follow the very real assassination of JFK. Was this published too soon after the event? The House Select Committee later brought out many facts used by this novel, which explains the assassination as the revenge of organized crime. But it doesn't explain why the ruling circles covered up the assassination. Haven't corporate powers used organized crime to perform those actions which can't be done by lawyers and accountants?

One person in this book is "Lola Camonte", an international hostess and Washington lobbyist and fixer. Could this be a reference to the famous widow of a Governor? "President Kegan" asks her about appointing a member of organized crime to the Court of St. James. This could never happen in real life, could it? This book explains how the media is used to portray fiction as fact. (Remember how President Carter was cut off the air when he began to speak about the assassination of JFK in March 1977?)

When the assassination is planned, they order an independent team as back-up. Since the back-up team was not used they are quickly eliminated as potential witnesses. Many innocent bystanders, who saw more than they needed to know, are also eliminated. But this would never happen in read life, would it?

  3. The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon was and is a masterpiece of Cold War fiction if there ever was one. For that reason alone, other novels written by Condon both before and since are worthy of attention. Winter Kills was written many years after The Manchurian Candidate and is also about political assassination.

Except in this case, the narrative takes place a full 14 years after the assassination in question has already occurred. President Tim Kegan was murdered on February 22, 1960 while riding in a motorcade in Philadelphia. Quite a few of the details parallel those of the assassination of President Kennedy.

Nick Thirkield, President Kegan's half brother, serves as the novel's protagonist. It's now 1974 and Nick becomes witness to a deathbed confession by a man claiming to be one of the triggermen in his brother's death. In a frantic attempt to find out who ordered the killing, Nick must navigate a labyrinth of facts, half-truths and out and out lies.

Winter Kills tells a complex story using frequent flashbacks to earlier times. As the plot unfolds, Nick, along with the reader, becomes aware that almost nothing is as it appears with layer upon layer of subterfuge obscuring the shocking truth.

This is a very complex work of fiction containing a host of way over-the-top scenarios. Plenty of actual Washington based rumor, folklore and myth is appropriated to flesh out the narrative. Cynical and darkly funny with a number of unexpected twists, Winter Kills rates 4 stars. Recommended to political junkies as well as fans of convoluted mysteries.
